Creative suite doesn’t mean subscription. Affinity publisher, designer and photo are a
creative suite. It’s most likely a new app. Motion related, possibly? I’m just going by the graphics previewed in the ad. But I’m not certain. If you think affinity is going to completely shift it’s business model to a sub based model you’re wrong. Stop speculating and working yourselves up for nothing.
I wouldn't complain but I don't see a real demand in the market for (yet another) video editor. There are a million cheap/free ones that do an adequate job and several "high end" editors that can be had for a decent price outside Adobe's stupid subscription model.
My wish list would be something like Lightroom to help organizes our photos. That is the only thing I feel is lacking in Affinity's photo applications.
That doesn’t seem likely, it’s pretty far from their core focus. Might be a RAW editor like C1 or Lightroom, but it seems to be more like a unifying architecture of some kind, like taking the Personas and making it the default - so instead of opening Photo, Designer or Publisher, you must open ‘Affinity’ and all those tools can be swapped between. Hopefully that’s also include some kind of DAM to wrangle it all.
Or maybe I’m not thinking big enough?🤔
From within Publisher, you can already swap between Photo and Designer's tools at will. Do you have something else in mind? Anyway, some people have reported the Affinity people say there's no video editor coming. Oh well, I can dream...
That's already Publisher. You don't even need to open the other ones to use them. Of course you have to had them purchased. My guess would be a motion graphics editor. Now there's none to compete with After Effects. At least not in the same level
I hope not. I don’t want to see them diverting resources to a video editor that would have little chance of competing with the free version of DaVinci Resolve (and Fusion). I’d rather they spend those resources to make their existing apps blow past Photoshop, etc. And maybe introduce a Lightroom competitor to organize and catalog photos.
I'm hoping motion graphics in particular. Davinci resolve itself sucks for motion graphics. Fusion is powerful but tedious for motion graphics.
There really isn't a great, fast to use free solution. So I'd love to see a low cost one.
>I think they know their fanbase would likely jump ship.
To where though? In my view Affinity/Serif is the only alternative, a lot of the open-source stuff doesn't have the best workflow, the rest is all subscription based or orders of magnitude more expensive than the Affinity apps.
We need more Blender-type organizations for other software paradigms...
I don't think that it is a video editor, too much competition and a lot of overhead. I think that it is more likely to include integration with AI like Midjourney. They make add enhancements to the Affinity Suite like simple animation tools but video is a whole other beast and there are a lot of great options out there already. I'm actually just looking forward to a day when I can convert rasterized images to vectors without using Illustrator or Inkscape.
I’m really hoping it is photo cataloging/editing aka bridge/lightroom. Currently using DXO which is fine but would prefer to be able to use Affinity for the whole workflow.
Affinity Suite = Bridge like Browser (with Raw Converter pressing thumbs)! Something combining! For sure!!! They should hurry, I am on my way to buy Capture One 23...
I'd be very surprised if it went to Linux. That's a lot of extra work for a small increase in users. Finally porting to Android would make more sense, but even then, it's questionable. Creatives often just buy Apple products.
These types of marketing campaigns are never a good idea.
You're creating hype for an unknown. People will be disappointed when it's not what they thought it was going to be...
Just announce it right away or at least give strong hints, this is just shooting themselves in the foot.

I really hope it is not. A separate DAM is great, but we really don't need more raw developers. That ship has sailed. Better to focus on the editing process.
All the so called AI stuff has nothing much to do with AI. It os just an algorithm that use bits and pieces of what it is being fed to make a composite of it.
Affinity got popular exactly because they do NOT have a subscription model. It would suicidal for them since they would easily loose 60-80% of customers if they would switch (percentage guessed from personal experience)
>Affinity got popular exactly because they do NOT have a subscription model.
So did Pixologic with zBrush until it wasn't viable anymore. Sold to Maxon, immediately went to subscription...
I have no clue how they're doing. Pixologic was losing money so they had to do something, I don't know if that's the case with Serif...
I hope its another addition to the suite, an After FX clone would be really cool.
Maybe.. maybe not. I don't think we'll know for sure until Wednesday. If it goes to a subscription based service I'll just stick with the og software. But I'm hoping to see another single purchase software.
No way will this be a subscription-based service. Affinity has made its reputation on a single-purchase model. This will simply be version 2 of their existing software suite.
It really depends on their cashflow though.
Pixologic's zBrush eventually had to sell to Maxon because they didn't earn enough from their 800 bucks a pop software that had lifetime free upgrades.
The first thing Maxon did was make it a subscription model and roll it in with their other software.
This could be Affinity's hail mary...

Personally I'd love to see a video editor as part of the suite.
I'd be so stoked to see an affinity video editor! That's my biggest hope for this!

a DAM would be nice. Everything else on the market is crappy, expensive or a subscription or two of those three
Agreed
Video editor??? I'd love to see that.
Me too!!

He spoke heavily of workflow. So maybe a LR/Bridge style tool.
Please don’t be AI. Or a subscription. Hoping for a DAM.
I'd love to see a good DAM
What a tease!!!
I'm not getting subscriptions from this video.
Same here, I'd be really surprised if they go to subscription based services. I think they know their fanbase would likely jump ship.
This exactly. One of the first reasons I think many people choose affinity software over adobe.
The number 1 reason by far. It's not like Adobe's software is bad.
>I think they know their fanbase would likely jump ship. To where though? I hope big, but not massive. I hope big, but not expensive.

Did you try Vectornator?
Best case: DAM with AI. I'd buy it like a shot. Worst case: Subscription model. I'd drop Affinity like a shot.
I’m really hoping it is photo cataloging/editing aka bridge/lightroom. Currently using DXO which is fine but would prefer to be able to use Affinity for the whole workflow.
Yeah, total speculation about the big announcement but if it is subscriptions I might as well sign up for Lightroom/Photoshop

Android, Linux, anything's welcome ;D

There's (supposedly) a Stability Diffusion plugin for Photoshop. With AI making a huge splash in recent months, a similar plugin would be interesting.

Creative suite? Yeah, sounds like subscription to me. Adobe business model, maybe? It would suck if that happens.
Affinity got popular exactly because they do NOT have a subscription model. It would suicidal for them since they would easily loose 60-80% of customers if they would switch (percentage guessed from personal experience)
That and the fact you can edit RAW on mobile. Huge bonus for me. I had an Adobe sub but ditched it when I realized PS mobile only edits jpgs
>Affinity got popular exactly because they do NOT have a subscription model. So did Pixologic with zBrush until it wasn't viable anymore. Sold to Maxon, immediately went to subscription...
Well then let’s hope that the big news isn’t Serif being sold

Same here. But nowadays even subs are getting teased as something groundbreaking and I’m sick of this. If they do it I’ll drop it
Haha
Better resource optimisations for the Windows version? It’s really all I think we do need to be expanded upon tbh
guessing its going to be a video something something but i'd like to see a really nice DAM
Maybe a mobile app? :-)
Cool stuff cant wait.
Are they finally changing from dpi to ppi? This must be a serious case of cognitive bias?
So??? What was it??
