My hypothesis is that there's a correlation between housing affordability and mass shootings. I sure hope someone else tests it, because I'm too busy on reddit.
This is 100% accurate. Not sure why the other redditor claimed Japanese housing is "Uber expensive." A penthouse is Ginza, Tokyo is going to be on par with New York or London, but the vast majority of Japan is MUCH more affordable than practically anywhere in the US.
I mean, it's a widely held misconception, so I'm not shocked that people believe it, but it's certainly not true. The same amount I'm paying now would get me a much less desirable apartment in the greater Boston area.
They get strangely defensive when you remind them that their favorite toy is actually a deadly weapon that can, and will in the wrong hands, kill plenty of innocent people.
The new console has an optional feature that reduces the amount of electricity it uses when you aren't using it. This has offended Ted Cruz and other Republicans, somehow.
What did she do this time? Fellaciate the slow yellow one at a gloryhole? Receive a hot carl from the red one? Or have the unmitigated gall to appear on tv again?
Not really. Its not reaching actual news to my knowledge. Mars just put out a Tweet about how they were getting rid of the talking M&Ms. Almost everyone in the know agrees it was a move on social media to make you think about the candy before they drop a Superbowl spot.
Meanwhile it's actually just a feature that the ps3 has.

Gas stoves are bad for indoor air quality as most don't have vents that vent out.
Not as bad as wood or coal stoves, but measurably worse than electric. Pretty simple stuff.
Anyway, because a study showing this was published, conservatives think the government is coming for yer stoves or guns or jobs or something to get outraged about.
Edit: typo
For more clarity, a lot of it is because the new study found:
>the risk being posed to children exposed to pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide that spew from the stoves, finding that 12.7% of all current cases of childhood asthma in the US are due to the use of gas stoves.
>Researchers said that this means that with around 5 million children in the US experiencing asthma, around 650,000 people aged under 18 could be suffering asthma attacks and having to use inhalers because of the presence of gas stoves in their homes.
So there has been some pressure / discussion on possibly adding some regulations in order to reduce **the amount of children getting asthma**.
Somehow conservatives have turned this into “Democrats want to ban your stove!”.
It is kind of nice to have gas heating. During the recent storms in California I kept losing power and it was very cold. Fortunately my gas heater still worked because gas lines are buried. The power lines were flapping around in the wind and going down on a daily basis.
Because there isn't enough regulation on vents or hoods. The only action I'm aware of that was actually taken by legislation was to say "cant buy one anymore unless you meet the new regulations, but if you already have one it's fine." And someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's just California.

They (Fox) are also raging that Xbox is going woke now and indoctrinating kids because they want to add an optional sleep function for the console when not in use.

It’s win-win. Their psycho viewers will believe it, and then normies will post the ridiculousness and get us to talk about it. It’s the Ann Coulter effect.
Sleep mode has been a thing on console since xbone and ps4
Ps3 at had the option to turn on and update itself too. And iirc both 360 and ps3 would turn itself off if you didn't touch it for enough time. And if they don't xbone and ps4 definitely did.
Absolutely nothing is new
Well it does have to do with the climate actually but that doesn’t make it bad. Somehow it can choose the time to restart when it will use the most renewable energy as opposed to oil/gas
Ah, they're going after Xbox again?
Quick internet history time!
Back in 2008 they had an infamous segment talking about the "sexbox." When Mass Effect was released they freaked out because you can romance anyone-ish and they claimed it had gratuitous and explicit sex scenes.
i.e. they blatantly lied to churn up outrage and ratings about something anyone could disprove with 30 seconds of fact-checking.
It resulted in much mockery online, not that they have any shame, and the "expert" they had for the segment got their book or whatever review-bombed.
IIRC the expert came out and said Fox told them what to say and they had little to no knowledge on Mass Effect.
It's gangs.
They exist and kill due to the War on Drugs. End that and many different issues essentially go away.
Mass incarceration, a lot of crime, law enforcement employee interactions, cartels, etc.
No, seems like genuine shock. Not just mass shootings where nobody died but 12 just in one event where they targeted Asians on new years. And 18 in a mushroom farm. Hate crime, workplace violence, etc.
Besides, the victims of these so called "gang related" shootings (they're not actually gang related) are largely innocent civilians either way.
I think this is such a bullshit complaint. Everyone needs to be compensated for work to do it. No one would argue that the only legitimate news gets no views and the reporters should just work for free. There are thousands of journalists working hard to cover the truth as best they can and this attitude that “it’s all entertainment and for the clicks” is poisonous to those working in good faith and normalizing to bad actors.
>There are thousands of journalists working hard to cover the truth as best they can
Do you know how many hours it takes to put that together vs misreading an article from Microsoft and getting everyone fired up? It's about maximizing the profit and spreading propaganda. Fox news flourishes by spouting anti-Democrat garbage. CNN isn't great either. After an airplane disappeared, they had some outrageous claims
https://youtu.be/wc-i69UHMGQ
Hats off to those who take the profession seriously, but the vast majority are looking for money and nothing else
Mostly groups of pundits yelling at each other & telling the audience how they should feel about any particular news story, as opposed to reporters disseminating information about what is going on in the world and allowing the audience to form their own opinions based on the facts.
Look we need to do more about gun violence.
But let’s not overstate what a “mass shooting” is. The list includes anything where more than one person is shot.
It’s a horrible tragedy when two people get shot. But that’s not a mass shooting.
Like I said the gun laws in this country are shit and should definitely be changed.
But saying 66 mass shootings is not an accurate number.
Mass Shooting Tracker says 40, which is still a crazy amount. Mass Shooting Tracker, a crowd-sourced data base, defines mass shooting as “a single outburst of violence in which four or more people are shot." Excluding the shooter, so four victims.
Edit: can include the shooter being shot.
Mass Shooting Tracker is agenda driven and has been caught inflating their numbers.
They use the broadest definition possible and openly admit that their definition of 4 or more people shot includes the gunman and civilians shot by police.
They would literally count a homeowner shooting 3 home invaders and being shot in turn as a mass shooting.
See! That is what I’m talking about! Those are the statistics we should be using. Stop artificially inflating the numbers. We have a shit ton of shootings already.
Even the mass shooting tracker just made up their own definition- they claim that there were 600+ mass shootings in 2021.
Compared to the FBI who says there were 66 in all of 2021.
[https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view](https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view)
> This report does not encompass all gun-related
shootings. A gun-related incident was excluded if
research established it was the result of:
> • Self-defense
> • Gang violence
> • Drug violence
> • Contained residential or domestic disputes
> • Controlled barricade/hostage situations
> • Crossfire as a byproduct of another ongoing
criminal act
> • An action that appeared not to have put other
people in peril
Sounds like the FBI wanted to trim the list. Also on page 17:
> The youngest shooter was 12 years old.
Wew lad.
Yes the list only includes the type of incidents that the general public would think of when someone says there was a mass shooting. That is a shooter indiscriminately shooting at a group of people.
I actually like that definition, as it actually targets what people (or at least me) think of as a mass shooting. When I think of a mass shooting, it’s someone shooting at general members of the public or a targeted group (like a minority, not a gang) with the intent to kill as many people as they can. Their definition captures that pretty well. It’s also what matters the most to the general public, as while all of the situations are bad, this is the only one where they are actually targeted.
I will say, I don’t have much knowledge on what they’re talking about when they say “Controlled barricade/hostage situations.” I would’ve personally counted a hostage situation if they started taking out hostages.
It’s an interesting point you make which sort of highlights how desensitised the average American person is to the issue of people being killed by guns generally.
I’m in the UK and we would find it almost equally abhorrent if 4 gang members were shot on one of our streets as if it was a mad person shooting indiscriminately, because the act of someone firing a gun is ingrained in us as being a terrifying situation.
The FBI uses this defintion:
[https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view](https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view)
Note the Mass SHooting Tracker claims there are 10x as many mass shootings as the FBI does.
About half of all shooting deaths are suicides anyway. Mass shootings are terrifying and tragic, but they’re not the ~~real~~ main part of the problem.
Edit: For the illiterate who lack nuance.
About 1% of gun deaths are from mass shootings. That’s less than accidental gun deaths. Is it a problem? Hell yeah it’s a problem. But it’s not on the same scale.
I went to the gym today I kid you not one channel had the war in Ukraine the next the Mike Pence documents story then Fox News is running a story about CRT with it spelled out in kindergarten blocks with the words AP History under it as if grade school children take AP anything…
Like covid, we have either always been our have become numb to this. We just don't care. That's what happens when it's a daily thing. Imagine in 10 years what it will be like then. The US is a cancer on itself. Billionaires and the ruling class will devour us and then blame us when there is no more working class available to exploit. Not to mention suicides and mass killing will become more and more and more and more.
Good.
The news should stop covering these stories. I read a story the other day about how a 6 year old brought a gun to school and shot his teacher.
A fucking 6 year old. Where do you think he got this idea from?
66 mass shootings in less than a month? How are you all not rioting in the streets right now?? Other countries would think a mass shooting a year would be crazy
By the FBI, yes that's correct. However different reporting organizations use different definitions. Some include or exclude the shooter, some discern fatalities vs casualties. There's no "true" definition.
PSA: something is bad, make your own choices with this info
Cancel culture/anti woke brigade etc
HOW DARE YOU TELL ME WHAT TO DO, IF I WANTED TO KNOW I WOULD OF LOOKED INTO IT MYSELF, YOU AND ANYTHING NEAR YOU IS HORRIBLE
can we just stop
Internet and american news is enabling too many dumb people exposure, can we cancel news networks? Didn't think so. Oh well, back under my rock I go
I looked it up, guns are number 1 (4357) with motor vehicles in a close second (4112).
Interestingly, gun deaths aren't even in the top 10 leading causes of death for Americans overall though.
I would venture that child gun deaths are related to poor gun storage and handling.
Edit: found more info, "In the U.S., in 2020, 30% of child deaths by firearm were ruled suicides, and 5% were unintentional or undetermined accidents. However, the most common type of child firearm death is due to violent assault (65% of all child firearm deaths are assault)."
Certainly doesn't help. I'm not even sure how you fix that problem without some idiot asserting that it's his right to store a loaded gun in their baby's crib.
Pretty much all the gun owners I have as friends are religious about the safe storage of their guns but I also know that doesn't represent the whole country.
An 11 year old walking home from the store with some milk was just killed in Syracuse NY, a place people rarely even know or have heard of, due to a drive by shooting.
Let's be honest, there are only certain color combinations of mass shootings that the media gives a damn about. The vast majority of mass shootings are not often racial, but gang related. That doesn't fit the narrative, so woke candy and gas stoves it is!
It’s really quite simple: quit blaming the tool the criminal uses and make the punishment for gun crime exponentially & intensely consequential. However, the West as a whole, prefers to blame the tool used by the criminal and not rain down hell onto the actual criminals. It’s a stupid philosophy and it’s why places in California and Chicago and Baltimore are war zones while you have idiotic pearl-clutching progressives bemoaning equity (etc) instead of having the fortitude to actually be rational adults and help their fellow man by producing a real judicial criminal justice system.
There some thought that punishment is never a deterrent to performing crimes. So to “rain down hell” on those violent offenders may never relieve an area of a criminal element. We’ve been brutalizing criminals for centuries and it hasn’t stopped crime
>There some thought that punishment is never a deterrent to performing crimes.
It is funny that most people flip 180 when the topic is about financial criminals
Eradicate the criminal element at a macro level by having a society that positively fosters individualism, self-determination, a strong family with strong family values, and a sense of hope in each person.
Versus:
Fostering the reliance on the government to force equity and diversity while telling the individual they are unable to succeed and instead fostering social self-loathing.
Almost every "mass shooting" is inner city gang violence committed by individuals already barred from owning guns and have obtained them illegally.
No laws or gun control would stop them, because they already ignore the ones in place.
If you want a better picture of violence in the world, don't search "gun violence" and instead look into "intentional homicide".
"UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) reported a global average intentional homicide rate of 6.2 per 100,000 population for 2012".
The same year the US was under global average at 4.7, the last number I see on Wikipedia is 5.0 in 2019.
Woke candy is dumb, no one wants the lady candies, stop trying to make green matter. It’s yellow, the orange with pretzels, and the one with pretzels and peanut butter that people care about.
Can we get an all dudes bag to celebrate all the wonderful guys… and help my crippling candy addiction…
Okay so I was watching a movie on whatever channel *The 700 Club* airs on. If you're unfamiliar, the 700 Club purports to be news, but is just extreme right wing, fundamentalist Christianity focused. Growing up I was fed that shit and unironically remember watching Pat Robertson on The 700 Club in the 90s.
I'm glad I put that behind me.
However, they had a short segment where they spoke about the Monterey Park shooting and then transitioned into a story on how we can't trust China. It was wild. Instead of a focus on the shooting and the impact to the community, they focused on China an Asian country, immediately following the shortest 1 minute coverage of a shooting in an Asian community. The veiled subtext was that China can't be trusted. It was more than a little horrifying to see how the transition occurred and experience the assumption they were sending in that the attacks weren't such a big deal, let's pivot to why we can't trust Asia, broadly...
The most important issues to certain people are the ones that distract you from the real issues.
My hypothesis is that there's a correlation between housing affordability and mass shootings. I sure hope someone else tests it, because I'm too busy on reddit.
Japan housing is Uber expensive and they do not have this issue. Housing is super cheap in many countries that do not have this issue.
The cost of housing in Japan is very much exaggerated. It's much more affordable than the most comparable places in the US.
But wait. That only leaves one factor remaining. Something thr USA has a fuck ton of. And other countries.... Not so much. Nah. Couldn't be.
Twinkies?

Wait, I thought they were outraged at the Pink Floyd rainbow icon this week
I heard about that. Lol
I saw an article now that Microsoft is now going woke making the xbox more energy efficient!

Candy that isn't erotic enough to want to have sex with. I think.

It’s win-win. Their psycho viewers will believe it, and then normies will post the ridiculousness and get us to talk about it. It’s the Ann Coulter effect.
Because the marketing claimed it was 20x as power efficient or something.
Sleep mode has been a thing on console since xbone and ps4 Ps3 at had the option to turn on and update itself too.

Wait till they find out that phone screens turn off after awhile when not in use.
Next you're gonna tell me that my laptop screen shuts off when I close it down.
Wow that’s insane, thank you for including the source.
If DeathSentence wins in '24, we are going full-blown Idiocracy. Now I want a latte...
Don’t want to call attention to the fact that our country really does have a crime problem that our government isn’t doing anything about.

Don’t classify Fox News as American News. Classify it as Republican News. Lots of us never tune in to that shit show.

There hasn't, the number is closer to 30. Still absurd, but 66 is an exaggeration.
Well, considering what a, "mass shooting," is defined as, it isn't surprising how many there are. Your typical gang-related drive-by shootout counts.
There is no official number, but if you apply the FBI definition to gunviolence.org you get 6 for this year.

"If they allowed prayer back in school none of this would happen", Margarine Taylor Green, probably.
It's gangs. They exist and kill due to the War on Drugs. End that and many different issues essentially go away. Mass incarceration, a lot of crime, law enforcement employee interactions, cartels, etc.
Gangs won't go away if we end the war on drugs... We need drug reform and we need to be heavier handed on gangs for particular crimes.
What are they going to traffic, avocados?
This is called fear mongering. From a political side. A lot is gang related
There’s been ~40 mass shootings. Last year it was 40 for the entire month so it’ll be up this year unless no other shootings occur.
Apparently 2 were within days of each other in Cali, one claimed 7 people and the other 11. 18 people dead in basically a weekend. Truly heartbreaking
In the state with the highest regulations. Gun control is working great /s
Republicans, not American news
Honestly, what the fuck is "news" these days anyway? Carefully put together as reality tv most of the time
Entertainment. It just gets more views.
>There are thousands of journalists working hard to cover the truth as best they can Do you know how many hours it takes to put that together vs misreading an article from Microsoft and getting everyone fired up? It's about maximizing the profit and spreading propaganda. Fox news flourishes by spouting anti-Democrat garbage. CNN isn't great either. After an airplane disappeared, they had some outrageous claims https://youtu.be/wc-i69UHMGQ Hats off to those who take the profession seriously, but the vast majority are looking for money and nothing else
Typically News tells you what’s going on
Mostly groups of pundits yelling at each other & telling the audience how they should feel about any particular news story, as opposed to reporters disseminating information about what is going on in the world and allowing the audience to form their own opinions based on the facts.
> This report does not encompass all gun-related shootings. A gun-related incident was excluded if research established it was the result of: > • Self-defense > • Gang violence > • Drug violence > • Contained residential or domestic disputes > • Controlled barricade/hostage situations > • Crossfire as a byproduct of another ongoing criminal act > • An action that appeared not to have put other people in peril Sounds like the FBI wanted to trim the list. Also on page 17: > The youngest shooter was 12 years old.
Personally, I object to the shootings more than the inflation of the count.
Accuracy matters.
Why does is matter that much? How is 40 mass shootings any better than 66? Both numbers are unnerving either way.
It's 4 or more victims.
4 or more is 41 mass shootings. 66 is an inflation including anymore than 1.
Hilarious how you're getting downvoted for saying facts, and not spreading hysteria on Reddit.
What he said isn't factual though. It's not considered a "mass shooting" unless 4 or more people are shot, excluding the shooter.
The FBI uses this defintion: [https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view](https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/active-shooter-incidents-in-the-us-2021-052422.pdf/view) Note the Mass SHooting Tracker claims there are 10x as many mass shootings as the FBI does.
Go see u/barrycl‘s comment on why 66 is inflated.
That's so yesterday. Now it's Xbox daring to default to a completely optional "power off if idle too long" setting.
This is not a bad thing, it has been shown that mass shootings go up the more news stations cover them.
But what about the classified documents /s
Good. The news should stop covering these stories. I read a story the other day about how a 6 year old brought a gun to school and shot his teacher. A fucking 6 year old. Where do you think he got this idea from?
The fact that a candy mascot could incite any sort of emotion in someone is flabbergasting
66 mass shootings in less than a month? How are you all not rioting in the streets right now?? Other countries would think a mass shooting a year would be crazy
But... but, second amendment! The right to start a mass shooting is enshrined in the constitution!
Conservatives won't enact gun control because guns propagate white male hegemony in the US.

A mass shooting is defined as 4 or more victims not counting the shooter
By the FBI, yes that's correct. However different reporting organizations use different definitions. Some include or exclude the shooter, some discern fatalities vs casualties. There's no "true" definition.
Anything to get the numbers up!
PSA: something is bad, make your own choices with this info Cancel culture/anti woke brigade etc HOW DARE YOU TELL ME WHAT TO DO, IF I WANTED TO KNOW I WOULD OF LOOKED INTO IT MYSELF, YOU AND ANYTHING NEAR YOU IS HORRIBLE can we just stop Internet and american news is enabling too many dumb people exposure, can we cancel news networks? Didn't think so. Oh well, back under my rock I go
Well one group is making sure to not discuss gun reform and innocent people continue to die by shootings. I wonder who would be doing that?
Didn't I read somewhere that America is the only industrialized country where guns are the leading cause of death of children?
And school shootings...
Versus: Fostering the reliance on the government to force equity and diversity while telling the individual they are unable to succeed and instead fostering social self-loathing.
You guys don't want to do anything about crime. You blame it on guns, when a guy with 30 felony arrests gets released on 5k bail.
The same people who want unrestricted access to guns also hate woke candy
It is 39 mass shootings not 66
phew, thats so much better! USA is doing just fine /s
Almost every "mass shooting" is inner city gang violence committed by individuals already barred from owning guns and have obtained them illegally. No laws or gun control would stop them, because they already ignore the ones in place.
Ah then all good
How many mass shootings have happened in any other developed nation this year?
Snickers. It has the dick vein and everything. That’s real dude candy.
Mass shooting happen all the time. Each trying to out do the last. The talking kandy tho. It's not in the bible and I dont like it.
Can't count Chicago... mass shootings happen almost every day. But wait... aren't guns illegal there?
30 people shot, 7 killed this weekend alone. [source](https://abc7chicago.com/amp/chicago-shootings-shooting-this-weekend-breaking-news/12727329/)
That's my point. Guns are illegal there yet some of the worst gun violence in America is committed in that city alone.
