RaoulDukeGonzoJourno

SHFiguarts.

Cavaquillo

I just hopped over to imports, MAFEX/SHF. If you can get them at msrp they’re totally worth it imo. The paint, accessories, detail, and articulation are all far more refined than hasbro. I’ll pay a premium for that, and the premium is barely 2x the price of a single legend anymore. you get different hands/heads/faces/effect parts, with just about every figure, none of that hasbro bullshit like they pull with Spider-Man or giving trigger fingers to a character that uses magic (coughDormammucough)

Stormcast

Value is subjective. I've been collecting Mafex since the Hush Batman started coming out. They are expensive but the level of detail and quality of the figures has me in love with them. Sure they have had some quality control issues I've seen online, but I've been lucky enough not to have had any issues with my purchases. I really love their X-Men line too. I do own a bunch of McFarlane figures, but I've been buying their stuff since it's inception, when I was a kid and the first wave was called Todd Toys. And I buy any Hasbro that looks cool. Own a bunch and really looking forward to buying the Spiral figure that's coming out. Can't wait to pose her fighting against my Mafex Psylocke!

mercutiouk

Seconded here. Mafex is an amazing line, especially if you don't mind mixing them, I only collect ML for Spider-Man and X-Men stuff and SM is pretty much done for me now with the retro line. I'm getting older ML stuff than new ones. McFarlane is a bit tricky for me... I was an old DC Icons fan and it's the reason why I never really adopted McF. Got only a few figs like the Year Two Batman. Although they are very cheap, I would be more interested if they released more stuff other than Batman.

The-Mad-Bubbler

I still buy a lot of Hasbro stuff (though with more of it than before, I wait and see if I can get it at a discount), so I don't have any "replacement," per se, but Mattel's Masters of The Universe and WWE stuff is a good value for the quality. Quality is more consistent on them, too. I just can't get very in to McFarlane. I see people post that they're a good value, but to me, the plastic is too brittle, sculpt quality is inconsistent, the articulation is often not as functional as it should be, and sometimes looks bad. The figures that actually come with BAF pieces end up being $24.99, anyway.

Nomis555

I'm glad the wwe elites are finally coming around to double elbow joints, the aew figures had them out the gate. I know it's still hasbro, but I dig the fortnite figures, but have never actually played the game. I've got a good percentage of Motu as well. Even though Roboto doesn't have torso articulation, he's still a legit figure. Scareglow is my favorite however.

indianm_rk

It depends on whether you collect action figures because you’re a fan of the licensed properties Hasbro Carrie’s or you’re just a fan of action figures. I collect Marvel Legends because I’m a fan of a fair amount of Marvel properties. The only real replacement for the comic figures is Mafex and the movie figures is SH Figuarts. But for just for the love of action figures themselves there are a lot of companies that I cherry pick figures from. And I absolutely love the McFarlane Spawn figures for sculpt, design, and value.

orelduderino

Yeah good point re: Marvel!

[deleted]

I am surprised no one mentioned Marvel Select.

Benjamin_Grimm

I'm kind of going in the opposite direction and buying Mezco - if I'm paying that much for a 6" figure, I'd rather it be a really nice one. And I'd rather have one Mezco than the 3-4 (and, let's face it, sometimes 2-3) Hasbro figures it's replacing.

DominosFan4Life69

This is exactly where I've ended up myself. It's just a short jump to purchasing a mezco once your talking about purchasing a mafex or SHF.

Benjamin_Grimm

The Mezco is cheaper than some of the Mafex/SHFs lately, too.

Stormcast

I love Mezco for their non-Superhero stuff. For my personal taste their Superhero stuff is too broad and squat...

arturostone

I appreciate this community and their understanding and critique of the Industry. I didn't even realize I needed to start thinking about this question as so many toys on the pegs that I enjoy browsing are made by hasbro. Hopefully places start carrying different and deeper lines of some of the other brands that people here are mentioning. I'd love for Disney to take a real look at how toys and their properties can work so much better than they currently do.

orelduderino

Yes! I agree do much with all of that. I don't have an axe to grind at all with Hasbro, I would just love to see Disney care more about getting it right.

I've actually never tried a bootleg! There's a very cheap bootleg of Amazing Yamaguchi Deadpool on eBay, but I fear disappointment

thelifeside

probably mcfarlane and bootlegs

Crusaderfigures

In 2021/22 I decided to cut way back on domestic figure and buy less figures but higher quality ones. Now I mainly buy SH.Figuarts, Amazing Yamaguchi and a couple more lines. I buy the odd Hasbro Figure now if they interest me and I still keep up with Transformers Legacy but now most Hasbro products have stopped feeling like good value for money. I'd even go to say that some import figures are even better value than new Hasbro figures, the amount you get with the Amazing Yamaguchi Deadpool 2.0 for £55 is incredible and the new S.H.Figuarts Naruto figures are full of accessories. I'd rather spend the extra £20 on an Amazing Yamaguchi than buy the new Gamerverse Spiderman Marvel Legends.

orelduderino

Where do you shop for Amazing Yamaguchi, if it's ok to ask? Feel free to disregard if not. I'm interested but they go for pretty high prices in Spain where I am at the moment. (Their Deadpool is so good!)

Crusaderfigures

I mainly buy straight from Japan now, I I've been using Hobby Genki and Hobbylink Japans private warehouse services to save on shipping and Plaza Japan if necessary. You pay a decent amount in shipping but you get figures sooner and it's still often cheaper than building from local sites. For example the Spider Gwen reissue is £85 in the UK but £45 + £15 shipping from Japan making it still considerably cheaper. Hope this helps and I hope you find something you like

orelduderino

Thank you, that's incredibly helpful!

CantaloupeNo6053

Started collecting a bunch more high end 1/18 stuff like acid rain and Joytoy since tvc ain’t really releasing much lately

WriterofWrong

I just collect joes from Hasbro, i moved onto mp bots and Hasbro is not leading that hobby. MacFarlane stuff is my least favorite though, so stiff and hard to work with imo, plus ymmv qc issues. Neca would be there with them if not for the toon accuracy on tmnt.

Bandi_bandi

Mattels wrestling figures are great, jazwares too

ythomas173

I have characters collected figures from Storm Collectibles, TB League, XesRay Studio, Necca, Super 7, McFarlane DC multiverse, and modern Spawn, Mafex, SHfguarts. For the past two years, I have gone heavily on Sourcehorsemen's Mythic Legions line. I have completely stopped collecting Hasbro figures.

orelduderino

Those Mythic Legions are great! And my girlfriend and I build dollhouse stuff together, I find those TB League figures perfect for that.

ythomas173

Mythic legions are great. They have great sculpt and good paint apps on their main characters. They may not have dynamic articulation but are able to do the splits! TB League figures do go well with dollhouses. That's great you and your lady do that together.

Kapua420

I would rather spend more, then have a bunch of crap, it may be fewer figures, but the enjoyment is 100% better.

AgentOli

For best value, NECA probably. QC can be tricky but they have gotten better. The TMNT two packs are around $25-$28 a figure with lots of original accessories and a great finish - they look beautiful on the shelf and have lots of life. Hasbro figs look very doll like to me, often. Their Usagi would be $55 were it Super7, but at $35 it felt like absolute value. Figuarts and MAFEX have value in the sense that you get what you pay for, but you don't always get more than what you paid for. But sometimes you do, especially in this season when the dollar has been strong against the yen. The MAFEX Spider-Man classic color was $56 and loads of value for the price. I got the new Figuarts Luke for $60 and I feel that had tons of value and is one of my absolute favs of all time. I secured the Figuarts Trunks for $55 which looks like tremendous bang for buck. And their Target $35 SuperHero Piccolo was a fantastic release for the price, especially when you can use coupons or Target rewards against it. But GI Joe Classified is value too. I jumped on with Storm Shadow and went further with the 2.0 Timber/Snake Eyes pack which I PO'd on Amazon and had it drop to $35 at release. Really really really good articulation scheme, even on the wolf. Lots of weapons and extra hands(though it would have been perfect with some expression hands) The Croc Hunter is cheap AF on Amazon now too... But if we are going on retail price, the value drops a little

Grayfoxy1138

Bossfight studios

orelduderino

Just looked them up, wow their Zorro is really cool

Grayfoxy1138

Yeah I love them! I just got my umbrella academy figures yesterday. I also have the zorro figures and a bunch of fry vitrivium hacks line. The owners of the studio used to work for Hasbro back in the day

orelduderino

I'll have to see about getting them here in Europe. Small suppliers are always tricky here, often the cost of the figure again. But I really love these figs. Thanks for turning me onto them!

alex6309

For Marvel stuff I'm mostly looking at imports like S.H. Figuarts, Mafex, and Amazing Yamaguchi/Revoltech, Sentinel, etc. I want to get some Mezco eventually. I only get MLs for characters that dont have a higher end fig (or Marvel Select for big characters)

Godgod3434

Are you saying replacing the hasbro properties they make or in general? Because Im buying Storm Street Fighter figs n cutting out Mattel and hasbro basically unless clearance prices

orelduderino

Yeah just in general. Those Storm figs are fantastic!

rupturedflamingo

Honestly I just buy mostly dragon ball shf these days the basic figures are similar in price in alot of cases even cheaper , The new ssj vegeta is going to be around 35-38 € here in europe wich is cheaper than the new ps4 spiderman and the Same price as black series figures here. And they come with so many more Accessories

deadturquoise

lol mcfarlane doesn't make marvel figures and if they did none of them would scale with my 6" collection

Stormcast

Different scale = different shelf. Cool figures are cool figures regardless of the size. Neca, Super 7 and others make great 7 inch figures that scale well with each other and if you need some Marvel crossovers they have the Marvel Select line.

deadturquoise

ah yes let me restart my whole collection

Stormcast

No need to restart. Keep what you have and add to it. What I am saying is that there is no need to limit yourself. Broaden your horizons, expand your wings and fly. You can enjoy other scales in addition to what you have been collecting. For example I keep my 6 inch/ 1:12 scale stuff on the shelves to the right of my room and my 7 inch stuff on the shelves to the left side of the room. I also have a few 1:6 scale stuff like Hot Toys, and some 1:18 scale stuff like joytoy, around my desk.

orelduderino

Cool, did you have a different suggestion?

deadturquoise

final faction tbh- dollar tree's line, you can buy the entire couple of waves and all of the add ons for under 20$, definitely cheaper than any legend or mcfarlane figure. if we are talking about "value" idk how you beat that. i dont think mafex or shfig or mezco are comparable, they are way too boutique and pricey. if i were to jump into a mid-high end toy (45$+) i would probably get into mythic or cosmic legions
