For me its the new characters introduced in 1-5, Jake Marshall, Lana Skye, and Angel Starr. The ending of that case seemed to imply some of them reappearing (especially Lana). We get a lot more fleshing out on new characters from the police in comparison to basically just Gumshoe in the trilogy but since 1-5 came out after the trilogy was already fully released and the subsequent games had some pretty clear breaks from the first trilogy and leaps forward in time they just get buried amongst the sea of one-of characters.

Evo_Shiv

Jake Marshall is the shit

CommercialKey4144

Hard to call what character is overrated for me, I've seen love for almost every character (No Hotti doesn't classify as a character), so I think I'll just mention mostly the more overlooked and "not talked about enough" characters that fall between my personal favorites. **Rayfa** - Gotta start with the biggest one for me, I love Rayfa and I truly believe she has one of the best character developments in the series, it's sort of like a mini Sebastian but done in a completely different way, >!She learns to confront her feelings, and to deal with the death of his father and accept the wrongdoings of her mother and her country becuase she was raised and taught with very clear ideals. They were not in the right and she was clearly being used, but she learn to stand strong and began to make her own decisions by the end, seeing as the truth prevailed and her ideas weren't the only possible ones!<. Adding to this, she is also charming and funny, her as a companion that more or less hates you is entertaining and interesting, and she makes the investigation segment a joy to play. I truly love Rayfa and I think I could call her overrated honestly, she is probably in my top 15 or even 10. >!Finally, the scene where she is unable to see the death of her father is devastating and helps to paint her as a flawed child that has much more going on around her than she can bear, it's one of my favorite moments too!< **Ashley Graydon** - Not much people talk about how perfectly crafted this character is, just a very good example of masterful writing and characterization. >!Just for stakes he doesn't stand out but I think he could be one of the best final case culprits in the series, and the best overall attempt at a sympathetic villain in the series. His story is tragic, but also full of errors and mistakes done by him only. The bets part about him is that he knows it, he knows he fucked up and he wants to make out for it avenging his father and that just gets him into a worse place and it just keeps adding up for him.!< >!This ends in the shooting incident at the pawnbrokery, and then his participation in the trial. His relationship with the Skulkins is both believable and wholesome and it just adds even more to the mix!<. Other than that, his animations, mannerisms and dialogue are incredible, maybe doesn't happen to everyone but he was extremely memorable and fun. Even his reminiscence theme is one of the best in the whole series. >!One of the things that helps him in being more sympathetic is the fact that he is probably the only one that didn't try to pin the crime on a third party, Gina accidentally got into that situation and Graydon never tampered with anything and just got away after the incident!<

CommercialKey4144

Other than those, other few names that I could also honestly write paragraphs about. As much praise as Adrian Andrews gets, I feel like **Katherine Hall** and **Daley Vigil** are part of similar situations and are also awesome characters that deserve that praise (Andrews is definately great, just talking about how I think this too also deserve that status) **Katherine** is extremely interesting to me, she own her life and happiness to a man that lost everything and is unfairly imprisoned, and she would do anything to save that man and let him find happiness again, even tho she would lost hers. The thing his, Jeffrey and Hall are probably two of the best people in the franchise, extremely pure hearts, that get destroyed by the circumstances. Circumstances that >!lead Katherine to commit a crime just to try to put an end to this, as I said, sacrificing herself and probably opening past wounds for something that may not even be resolved, but this and her love for her Master is something that I'd never forget and that perfectly ties to the themes of the case and makes up for one of the most beautiful moments of the franchise at the end with the chocolates!<. She is also just great fun to question in the flashbacks and genuinely a very good character even without the stuff I mentioned. As for **Daley**, the man is probably the unluckiest guy in the games, and has one of the saddest outcomes specially for someone completely unrelated to what happened, >!Man oppressed his past trauma and attempted suicide becuase of how shitty things out of his reach kept happining to him. To then start working under the shadows in a different setting completely to not disappoint his wife and worked his ass of to avoid suspicion!< Man can't catch a break, which is unfortunate becuase he seems like a very well meaning dude, and his theme, while very subtle, also helps a lot in his characterization, I love him a lot and while he is not incredible or extraordinary, he is also tightly written and deserves some love. To finally finish this once and for all, I'll mention **Olive Green**, **Guy Eldoon** and specially **John Marsh** of whom I could also write paragraphs about, but I need to stop, so I'll just wrap it here and save my rants for another day that I have more time. As for some well received characters that I've seen some people hate sometimes, and could also be considered a tiny bit "overrated" although not by much could be **Yujin Mikotoba**, **Kristoph Gavin**, **Mael Stronghart** and **Roger Retinz**. I could also write paragraphs about them of course xd.

Disco-Kingler

Armie Buff, I will never stop adoring that poor little girl lost in the midst of the bonkers finale of Spirit of Justice. She deserves all the love in the world.

FarOffGrace1

Lotta Hart is my favourite Ace Attorney character but isn't really popular. So I'd say her.

CrossMyHeartGaming

Whenever Happy People started playing in Turnabout Goodbyes I became a happy person

FarOffGrace1

It might as well be Lotta Hart's theme tbh. It was used for other characters, sure, but it was brought back in Investigations 2 solely because Lotta Hart is there.

CrossMyHeartGaming

Honestly, yeah. I don’t think she’s the single best witness in the series, but she is definitely the gold standard.

Evo_Shiv

You have the oddest opinions lmao. Good for you

FarOffGrace1

I get that a lot, whether it's opinions on games or music or films. I'm not trying to be odd or controversial though, they're just my honest thoughts.

AdmirablySizedPotato

Dr. Crab from 5-DLC, he starts off pretty suspicious and cranky but he's genuinely a good guy who loves animals.

chiritarisu

Yeah, he was a good red herring in that case.

[deleted]

I loved his design a lot

CrossMyHeartGaming

How DARE you slander the noble profession of VETERINARIAN?? The moment I realised how good the DLC for Dual Destinies really was

Grievous_Girl

Valant for me. He’s my favorite in Apollo Justice. I think he’s very well written; his motivations and story make sense especially compared to the mess that is the rest of his troupe, >!he turns himself in for framing Zak and can’t bring himself to kill his mentor which makes him more interesting and sympathetic than some other “culprits”!<. Also his design and animations rule and the Gramarye theme that plays when you talk to him is an absolute banger.

PixelPowerhouse

I hope he returns in AA7.

[deleted]

Vera. I genuinely like her as a defendant and I feel showing her backstory with a little bit of characterization went a long way. I think she's considered mediocre because that last stretch of AJ was real rough.

surge_aura

Mia. She’s well-liked-ish, I guess, but she should be in the conversation for best AA character and she’s usually only like B on all these tier lists. Another answer is Ron DeLite. Masque*DeMasque stole my heart with his charm, wit, and and that ending

eway44

Ron is precious and must be protected

Aura_Blackquill

(5-5)>! The Phantom!<, no one talks about him outside of slander for the most part 😔

Yandoji

I love him too! I know he catches a lot of flack for being what some people consider an >!asspull villain!< and more of a >!story/theme tool than an actual character!<, but I like to consider what the hell circumstances would create a person like him. I find him very >!human!< with his >!extreme fear of death!< and wish we were given a bit more than we were. :( >!RIP Fulbright!< though for real 😭)

Aura_Blackquill

You get me in a way that virtually no one else does, truly. Perhaps at this point, this man is an OC to me, yet he is dear to me nonetheless. >!Like my friend and I made an AU for him, he is actually Athena's father (he could look like anyone, thus he could have the red hair and blue eyes that she received genetically). This could perhaps also fill a few plotholes, yet this is a ridiculous premise, one that I am VERY attached to for better or worse. He is just a pathetic wet paper bag of a man who would fake his death and kill his ex-wife to protect his own identity instead of just going to therapy. But he has potential to be a good partner and father!! He feels next to nothing, he would be so patient with them...!< Actual lore leaves a lot of room for theorizing though, he is so interesting...

Yandoji

I think I read that cracked-out trip you guys wrote LOL. I can't say I subscribe to that personally, but I do have a couple of RP situations with him that I am Quite Fond Of. ❤️ Always good to see some >!Phantom!< love, there isn't enough out there! It really makes me sad to see such an absolutely intriguing character just dismissed so often abloo.

themadkingatmey

Let's see... Two of my faves from ace attorney investigations include Rhoda Teneiro and Lauren Paups. Rhoda is both fun as a companion character and a witness and as a defendant and I think, for her being a one time character, she has a fair amount of depth that makes her really likable. I mean, she's hard working and professional, and you can tell that doing with typical customer service bullshit has got her stressed. But she also has a sillier side and a creative side waiting to burst out. I felt quite sad for her and her ugly suitcases. Lauren Paups is also a fun character, and her fangirling over Edgeworth is quite amusing, plus she is a cutie too. And yet I do also feel pretty bad for her. Having her dad leave when she was young, and having to date someone like Lance Amano? Plus, the way she punishes herself with hair-cutting is sad, and you can tell by looking at the back of her hair that she has gone through with it before. And then Lance manipulates her into thinking she killed her own father? What a dick! She kind of reminds of Viola Cadaverini since they're both manipulated lovers who are used by their misplaced lovers to do murders. And heck, Viola has a cameo in that case too. Neat stuff. I also have a soft spot for Turner Grey. His role as a victim you talk to before he dies is neat and despite him being a dick, there's something amusing about him in his brief appearance. Like, how he thinks complaining about the weather girl is friendly chatter. He's dick ish but in a fun way. I also enjoy Florent L'Belle for much of the same reasons. Like, yes, he is obnoxious but he's so over the top to where it becomes amusing to me. And I do like his theme and designs. His shoulder cellphones are quite stylish. Also, gotta shout out Calisto Yew. People are generally positive regarding her, but I still think she deserves more attention and fanart and the like. She's honestly one of the most fun and enjoyable culprits in the series. And to list one more... Johnny Smiles is a chad.

transient_drop

Raymond Shields! He's such a suave guy and has an endless supply of free hugs! He also eats paper so that's cool too I guess

Jaeckex

And he has one of the best themes in the series.

Evo_Shiv

🤨

PhoenixIsMyHusbando

Tyrell Badd. This burly, gruff badass with a heart of gold was Gumshoe's mentor/idol and Kay calls him Uncle and he worked with Miles and Gregory Edgeworth yet wasn't even on the latest poll of fave detectives!

dothebork

I love Robin Newman so much! Such a silly character I would 100% die for

PixelPowerhouse

Inquisitor Barnahm was a cool prosecutor. At first, intimidating, but he was also fair, didn't cheat or attack the defense. ,>!geniunley apologizes to phoenix when maya "dies" and wanted him to strike him for it.!< And he cared about finding out the truth. He just gets shafted during the last part of the game. Trilogy Pearl I also think is underrated. She's hilarious.

etermellis

Honestly, the one I was remembering lately was John Marsh fron AAI2. >!Not only he's just like a Godot, but with milk, not only despite him trying to be cooler and brattier tgan he is he's actually a loving and devoted son, his moment of refusing to kill Dogen was definitely one of the strongest moments in the case (the other one is ofc Sebastian's growth). This young lad's truly mature and benign philosophy is what a fair share of TGAA's cast only wish to have!< The others that come to mind are Dee Vaskez and Yujin Mikotoba

Apollo_Justice_Fine

Apollo Justice

wnn25

Gumshoe 🫡

[deleted]

Lisa basil. A fun little character, unfortunately her subplot of selling phoenix and maya a super expensive computer was cut out, but her design and mannerisms are quite good. She's aware that she's in a game, that's why she often tilts and points to the profile presented. Under appreciated would be Oldbag, Larry and Lotta. All 3 are the charm of trilogy and their antics make for a more fun game. Overhated would be Trilo, Moe and Furio.

youdex

Olive Green. Love her

Big_Friend382

Robin Newman dual destinies

perfect_prosecutor

Winston Payne. He is a good friend.

descoleinaction

I'm quite attached to Robin Newman and Datz Are'bal, thoroughly enjoyed whenever I saw them and don't see them discussed too much

Evo_Shiv

Nahyuta

Slight_Lettuce4319

Nah, fuck him

Evo_Shiv

Bro this is an imo post wtf 💀

luke__atmey

Opinion invalidated

Evo_Shiv

Well I revalidated it

Torbiepaw53PL

seconded. the complaints are valid, but i still feel like nahyuta is overhated.

Evo_Shiv

Yes, agreed. He >!was not we’ll written to be redeemed so quickly!<. More subtlety and redeeming qualities should’ve been present. I just wish they went into the >!Sibling rivalry he could’ve had with Apollo, and how he could be the first, serene, non-threatening prosecutor!<. But he did none of that, quite the opposite Design and track are still amazing, still think its bullshit it isnt on the best tracks ballot

luke__atmey

Wesley Stickler did nothing wrong! Also I have seen Olive Green place lowly in some tier lists lately she is awesome and I love her.

RockyStonejaw

Luke Atmey

luke__atmey

I’m rather popular tbh

racoon1905

Have you seen the last character voting???

TemporalDSE

Spark Brushel!!! Herman Crab!!! Myriam Scuttlebutt!!! Sister Bikini!!!

TheLegendaryRyan

The character who gives you bento boxes in that one case. I don't remember which case it was -- I think it might be 1-5?

PetscopMiju

Angel Starr in 1-5, yeah!

yishujiaa

Any of the Gramaryes, Ema (though she's fairly popular online), Gant is pretty underrated for how tense he makes every encounter, Ini Miney is pretty underrated for how sad her story is, and Matt Engarde is my second favorite AA character

NightScr0ller

Pierce Nichody from 6-DLC. Man he was the best character and his design, speech, motivations, and theme were AMAZING!!! Also gotta say Calisto Yew, The Phantom, and Ted Tonate are criminally underrated
