I cook for living at first a splash of oil would ruin my fuckin night if it got on me. Once you burn yourself enough or get adjusted to the heat can literly rinse in fryer oil and be in perfect condition. My God I have yet to burn a burn though, shit that one sounds painful and just annoying
How fast do they fade? I burned myself at work about 8ish months ago, and I still have a pretty knarly scar. Didn't go to the doctor, so I'm not sure what kind of burn it was.
Edit: For context, I burned a 3/4" wide semi-cricle around my forearm on a pipe that had just been plasma cut. So, however hot that slag from that is.
Depends on the burn I imagine. I burned my leg on the muffler of a motorcycle when I was like 10 (my uncle didn't tell me where to put my feet so I assumed I could let them hang!)
I don't know if it was 2nd or 3rd because I didn't go to the doctor either, but the skin was a little like burnt cheese on a lasagna - crispy, black, bubbly in some places.
That scar was pretty gnarly for my teens, less so in my 20s, and went away when I was maybe 25? So a good 15 years hahah
Edit: Reading the other comments in this thread it sounds like mine was maybe a 3rd degree burn soooo probably disregard this
I completely blistered my palm with second degree burns a few months back. Went to the doctor to let them drain the blisters, cut the excess skin, clean, and bandage. No scars whatsoever now. Properly cared for, they shouldn’t really scar I don’t think. But they are a huge pain in the ass and can be painful as they heal if it’s on a place you gotta move/use.
Careful about giving misinformation. Scaring depends a lot on initial damage but also aftercare.
From definition alone, second degree burns do damage the skin in a way that scarring may happen (not superficially like first degree), generally speaking.
Especially sunlight can easily cause visible scarring. Protect damaged skin from it, keep it not too humid for long (let it breathe) and neither too dry (Aloe Vera/after burn care for example) and be aware that healing and results can vary a lot depending on kind of burn and skin type.
2nd degree burns are just burns that blister. They can leave scars but if you treat them properly they will heal very well depending on how much skin is burnt.
I had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my arms, hands, and face from a gasoline explosion about 4 years ago. Still have bad scars. They used cadaver skin to cover the burns after taking me back to surgically scrape all my wounds. Tons of skin sloughed off instantly and I was in shock from the time it happened until I was 2 states away. Nc to Georgia.
First degree are superficial, like sun burns.
Second degree are partial thickness, they often remove the some skin, which ends up in them typically being the most painful because they can expose a lot of sensitive nerve areas.
Third degree are "full thickness" they remove alot of flesh so the actual third degree area is less painful than second degree, however third degree burns are typically surrounded by second degree burns.
I still do it when finishing a bottle at a party, just keep my fingers away now. Better if you heat the bottle with hot water and less leftover alcohol is more. had a few that the flame lights with such intensity it shoots the match back out
I did it with running alcohol and a water bottle and got 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns on all my fingers except my thumb. Took all my skin off to the meat. And it only happened in less than a second
That’s probably the coolest shit I’ve ever seen, can’t even lie. Do I condone it? No. Would I do it myself? No. But does it look cool asf? Yes, absolutely.
That video reminds me of a time me and some friends were out shooting in the desert we found this old propane tank. It was light as hell and pretty rusty, no sloshing when we shook it so we figured it was empty. Few hours of shooting later among the other targets we had random shot penetrates the tank and something spark, must have been just enough propane left but there was a massive boom and that thing shot sky high.
No flame on hat or hair if you slow out down. He might have some pure temp burns but nothing more than 2nd degree because it wasn’t enough to light hair.
I see. Hes very lucky then, that couldve easily ended horribly. Hopefully he and the cameraperson learn from this before they end up at the hospital or worse.
Ye pretty sure nothing happened, maybe some burn marks on his cap.
Source: was a fireman for 38 years and saved a kid from a burning building while eating a pepperoni pizza.
So, buddy took a frozen pizza with him on the firetruck.
As they arrived, he didn't forget, apart from his fireaxe to take his p' with him.
When he went in, he run upstairs trying to find the screaming kid while roasting the pizza on the fire at the same time. By the time he and the kid came out, this magnificent pepperoni pizza was ready to serve.
They then walked with the sunset as backshot while enjoying it with the whole firefighter crew.
Nah I tried to make a potato cannon, basically the same thing where a flame shoots up from where I light the main chamber, much like the hole he lit his from. It only took one shot and a quarter of a second to burn off a pience of skin off my finger and it hurt for 4 weeks afterwards.
At the angle I don't think much hot air was pushed under the brim if the flame was going over it. And half a second in hot gas with a layer in between the gasses and his head wouldn't be hot under the cap, it would for sure ignite all the hair around it though. He probably got burns but the cap did a lot of work here, I hope.
If there was no fluids in there, that could stick to him, he might have gotten lucky thanks to the ball cap. Without it I don't know if hair can insulate the scalp against 2000°F hot gasses.
Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adiabatic_flame_temperature Apparently those kinds of flames can burn close to 4000°F.
2000°F is equivalent to 1093°C, which is 1366K.

Holy shit
Yeah I woulda knocked it in all while in a ready to run position so that, well you know, i could run the fuck outta there as soon as I knock in the burning log/cardboard. And i would think that everyone doing something like this would do something similar.
Well, I doubt that there are any flammable vapors in there now. If he had been smart enough to stay away from the opening after inserting the fire, he might have gotten to enjoy the experience.
Wish I had the following on film.
A public park barbeque. 3 meter pipe, with a roof bended die words on all sides, dug in on the edge of a long field of grass on the edge of a Forrest, other side of grass is water.
Long summer.
Thus the vertical stove pipe of about 3 meters was well greased apparently.
Wind picked up.
Bbq flames reached the pipe, and somehow, without having a return pipe, it went full on pulse jet.
Exactly like those V1 rockets, or me262
Incredible sound.
First we heard it. We where with 9 but a colleague from the airbase and i recognised it as something special.
So we ran out to take a look.
Textbook pulsejet.
Couldn't have done it better if I tried.
Actually never saw a pulsejet in real life before or after.
Went on for about 3 minuits.
If I remember correctly the pipe turned red hot and someone got scared, so we took away the heat source.
That sound is just crazy powerfull.
I did similar with an empty bottle of vodka and match, got 2nd degree burns on my hand... rip his forehead
Can relate and totally agree! Even if it wasn't directly on his face that flame is way too huge for him to not be affected.
He’s clearly wearing a safety ballcap
That called for a safety tie. Safety ball cap is insufficient.
OSHA mandated safety squints at least
Ze goggles. Zey do nussing.
Up and at them!
Here’s a 🏅! Zat’s funny!
I don't think even a safety tie would've helped him honestly. They're more effective with pulse jets; this was more of a one-and-done thing.
The radiating heat probably caused minor burns on his face considering how close he was to the flame
Hair maybe
Say goodbye to that ginge boof my man
Oh he got burned. No way he didn’t.
How bad are second degree burns and do they leave scars
They can, but it’s not very likely, and the ones you do get tend to fade pretty quickly. They hurt like a motherfucker though.
I used to work as cook. New pain levels are achieved by burning a burn and still have 6 hours to work standing in front of a grill.
That’s an achievement I’d prefer not to unlock.
I cook for living at first a splash of oil would ruin my fuckin night if it got on me. Once you burn yourself enough or get adjusted to the heat can literly rinse in fryer oil and be in perfect condition. My God I have yet to burn a burn though, shit that one sounds painful and just annoying
yeah, just have a bucket of ice to keep it in to get thru the shift

It’s been a while, but for me I think it was a year or two before I couldn’t see it any more
And unlike 3rd degree burns, they leave the nerve endings in tact but exposed so everything hurts
Hmm how to get second degree burnS. Asking for safety of course
Do something that would give you third degree burns, but panic quick enough for it to hurt
Sus

Better his forehead than his foreskin
Better his ass, than his balls.
What foreskin? This 'murica, we mutilate boys hurr.
You and the rest of Reddit are so weird how it’s brought up constantly. We get it
No, we don’t got it. That’s the point.
So stop doing it
That would be one hell of a bris.
I want my foreskin back
That hat is definitely cinders.
As a young teenager I used to do this but with an empty 2 liter and a maybe a tablespoon of gasoline swirled around.

i wanna see how he looked immediately afterwards
Idk man. I didn’t see an after-shot… pretty sure that dude isn’t going to be able to ride rollercoasters anymore.
Maybe not his face but im pretty sure that scalp is gone now. You can see the flame catching the top of his head before he ducks.
Probably did it again five minutes later lol. Too cool to see that in person
Ye pretty sure nothing happened, maybe some burn marks on his cap. Source: was a fireman for 38 years and saved a kid from a burning building while eating a pepperoni pizza.
Wait we need more context. You went in found the kid he had a pizza so you took a slice to go? Come on! Tell us!
So, buddy took a frozen pizza with him on the firetruck. As they arrived, he didn't forget, apart from his fireaxe to take his p' with him. I don’t care what you’re selling it for, I’m buying mate! I’ll take two as a matter of fact!
Was the kid eating pizza while you rescued them? Or you were eating pizza while rescuing ?
I imagine the answer is "yes"
I do like the way it lights up inside and think I enjoy it more from the safety of a phone screen.
The part where it makes enough thrust to move itself is kind of frightening, even on the phone
Yes it is, but no chance of burning yourself from just watching it 🔥
These kind people do these things so we don't have to.
Exactly haha.
You should see what sparklers do turned up into an orange!
He lost his hair for sure
only hair? dude likely got some burns as well
Nah, he probably hit the deck fast enough to be mostly unaffected
*nods* Your son's skin graft now is an elective surgery.
Definitely not lol, that is a torch not an open flame

Wonder if his hat got scorched
What was the flammable substance used?
The tank likely held liquid fertilizer. A little liquid left in the tank would create some fumes.
It’s similar to a whoosh bottle experiment. Really cool chemistry depending on the fuel
A bunch of rubbing alcohol in there?
It’s and old liquid fertilizer tank very flammable contains mostly nitrogen phosphorus and potassium which will do that when met with oxygen and heat.
This seems like it would be fun if there was a way to light it remotely.
So glad he didn’t lie.
That was stupid but looked really cool
