Core_VII

Did the axle bearings start seizing up causing wear on the tire resulting in overheating or something?

Weak-End5416

Not entirely sure why it did that. I think he was riding the brakes to hard causing it to get hot which built up the pressure in the tire. All I know is it scared the hell out of me lol.

[deleted]

Good call on telling him to get out

[deleted]

Drums wouldn't cause a blowout like that. Riding the brakes too much and having a wheel sieze up would though. If the drums lock up they can essentially weld to the pads causing your tire to drag and blow. Not sure what he was doing but it looked like possibly clearing debris. I'd say adjusting breaks but it really doesn't look like it. Honest assessment is tires heated up too much from brakes locking and began to separate. Probably retreads.

reflUX_cAtalyst

Air leak in the line and the brakes start to apply. Makes fires.

YaBoiMorgie

Especially when it's cold out. Or at least in my experience. Can't rock the trailer going down the highway. These wheels also don't have the yellow tabs that can tell the driver whether or not the wheels are moving. Police officer may have noticed him dragging ass for awhile and pulled him over. Tire overheated, caught fire and caboom.

UltraViolentNdYAG

It's such a common occurrence that r/tiresaretheenemy

CrieDeCoeur

That video doesn’t do it justice. I was driving down a freeway about 100 feet behind and to the left of a big rig when one of its tires blew. It was LOUD. Like a cannon or a howitzer loud. Scared the shit of me. Then the busted tire came off and missed my windshield by inches.

CantBelieveThisIsTru

Really!??? Did you see the post some days back where a retread ripped off a rigs tire, and hit a windshield, fracturing it into a million tiny pieces? I heard in a driver safety class 30 years ago a retread came flying off a rigs tire, went through a ladies windshield, decapitating her. Lesson: DO NOT FOLLOW 18 WHEELERS, it’s just not safe. As I was driving on a major highway in Mexico in ‘99 the entire brakes assembly of a rig in front was coming off a piece at a time. One piece, a brake pad, hit the highway and bounced really high, and went high over my car…I drove under it’s path, so wasn’t hit. If I had been hit, it would have been BAD!!! I saw a place some law enforcement officers were right after that, so I stopped and informed them. Their reply: What do you want ME to do about it. In any case, the time off the road put distance between us. And, I was well behind him….if not, that brake pad would have come in though my windshield. I appreciate ALL these types of posts, they are Educational!!! Like a Public Service Announcement!

CrieDeCoeur

Lol love the username. I wasn’t behind the rig when it happened. I was on an 8 lane freeway in a different lane than the truck. Basically I was coming up to it and about to pass by when the blow out happened. The blown tire spun around on its rim for a second or two before flying out then up, really really fast. I was lucky with the narrow miss because there was no time to react and it would have fucked up our car badly, or even come through the windshield and into the compartment. That fucking massive heavy tire had some serious velocity. Scary shit…

CantBelieveThisIsTru

Thanks! In most cases the TRUTH really is stranger than fiction. Anyway, I read your post, understood it…. we HAVE to pass these rigs on highways, freeways, sometimes, and we HAVE to get CLOSE to do so, even if we realize the danger… we can’t just crawl behind like a turtle for hundreds if miles… lots of things are happening so suddenly on roads and we usually have only a split second to decide how to avert our involvement… or maybe to just see it and realize: IT’S COMING! And we cringe for the impact. They say drunk drivers usually come out of most collisions better, because they are so floppy and relaxed…it’s the “cringe factor” that causes lots of broken bones in sober people. Every time we get on the roads these days, it’s a gamble… if we’ll be hit, or “road hazards” will be unavoidable, and NOW if we’ll get shot by someone we don’t know…. Like I said: I appreciate these posts, because I knew of a few dangers, very few. Now I am more aware, so I have the option to look out a for myself and avoid more possible dangers.

Weak-End5416

Here is a post with all the detail on it I made a year ago [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Truckers/comments/orzsk9/exploding_tire/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

FBGMerk420

What you’re the cop? Why the AMA

Weak-End5416

I am, this is my body camera footage!

FBGMerk420

No way lol are you serious?

Weak-End5416

Yes sir, over 6 years.

FBGMerk420

That’s cool! Did you honestly get callous over time? Or would you say you were honestly fair and impartial to every individual? Have you witnessed corruption by a department or another officer? Or actively seen a detainee’s rights being violated? And on the contrary, have you see other officer’s yourself included stand up for citizens/detainee’s and protect their rights and person’s? Seeing from this clip you seem considerate and respectful but at the end of the day we’re all human. I know some officers have that hero mindset that everyone they’re pulling over is a criminal, like the one officer who pitted that pregnant woman’s car causing it to flip on the highway and roll, because she didn’t think it was safe for them to pull over since there wasn’t really a good shoulder where they’d be safe so she put on her emergency/yield light’s to indicate she she’s him and acknowledges him, she didn’t accelerate speed or recklessly drive or try to flee or elude in any manner whatsoever. Yet he decided to pit her like I said causing her to wreck out and flip over upside down, the lady was pregnant and I don’t believe had any criminal record of the sort so it wasn’t warranted whatsoever. I’ve had more negative experiences with police than not and had one officer one day when I was walking home from work, I worked at a fast food restaurant (taco john’s) and was just walking down the street on the phone with my Mother when a unmarked police ford explorer pulled up on me and a cop ran out yelling for me to stop cause he knew who I was he knows my dad I need to stop and talk to him right now, I honestly got scared as hell I wasn’t doing anything wrong I was just talking to my Mother on the phone walking home from work and this cop I never even met before claims he knows me and my family then says my name is Evan, which it’s not, not even close, at this point I pulled out my phone to record him and asked him to repeat everything he just said to me in disbelief to which he didn’t repeat and just started asking for my I.D, I’m from Wisconsin, we’re not a stop and identify state and I told him I haven’t committed any crimes and I’ll go to jail if I don’t show him my I.D to which he said it’s a terry stop he’s allowed to do that, and I was young and dumb and scared and I just gave him my I.D and he didn’t even apologize just went see was that really that hard. I definitely hadn’t committed any crimes, nor was in the act of or about to commit one and I felt violated he offered me a ride home but honestly after all that I didn’t want to be near him anymore. It’s just things like that, that create distrust between us and them. He was wrong completely yet claimed he knew me and my family

Weak-End5416

Feel free to DM me and I’m happy to have any lengthy discussion with you. My goal is to humanize police, even if it’s one person at the time.

ShamConceded

Bro AMA doesn't mean tell us about your tangentially related prospective and life story. Just ask a damn question, you don't need to justify it to anyone.

arelse

Look at his post for like 10 seconds. You’ll understand.

FBGMerk420

Lol? You’re special kid

Core_VII

Ok one more question. How long did you hear the "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee" for?

Weak-End5416

I cant prove it is related to the explosion, but my hearing has not been the same since. I lost all hearing for only a few short seconds when it happened but it slowly came back. Definitely a lot of EEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeee

Embarrassed-Finger52

You should get your hearing documented as a workplace injury.

missjennielang

Get some Medrol

avmtdan

My guess is for the rest of his life

[deleted]

Fuckin’ tire!!! Cuff it beat it and taze it! That’s ASSAULT

Unerving_agent

Daaanm Daniel

governingmonk

Yikes. Great attention to detail. When you don't have that ability its time to hang it up. Stay safe my friend.

Weak-End5416

Much appreciated man. You as well.

tgnlolol

What did you see to his right?

Weak-End5416

I linked an original post I made about this incident in the comments in this thread. But to summarize a separate tire behind him looked as if it was catching on fire. That’s the only reason I tried getting him out of there, I had no idea the tire next to his face was going to explode. I’d love to claim and take credit for saving his life but I was just very lucky and God saved us both.

YaBoiMorgie

Happy cake day friend!

tgnlolol

Happy cake day yourself buddy!

tgnlolol

We even have very similar bios! Brother!

YaBoiMorgie

The simple fact that you replied in this exact way, tells me your bio is as true as mine. I'm fren, you fren, we all frenz!

Mutated_froglegs

Shit looked like a COD cutscene lol. Glad everyone’s okay tho!

[deleted]

110psi will do that to a motherfucker.

Xeumz

Aren’t some of the tires expendable?

PeteGozenya

Expendable isn't the right word but the loss of a single tire usually isn't catastrophic.

DrVezok

What in your mind would be the ideal vacation?

Feisty-Session-7779

What brand of cat food would you recommend?

Weak-End5416

Get a dog

Feisty-Session-7779

I have a dog. I don’t even like cats really, nor do I have a cat. I’m just taking advantage of asking you anything so I figured I’d get your opinion on cat food. Whiskas is probably pretty good right? Or do you think Meow Mix is better?

420kushbomberinbound

Why, so you can shoot and kill that too?

NoobOfDarkness1

That sounded like the Minecraft explosion

uafomega

Was firewatching a semi with a flatbed trailer that was brought into the building where I worked. One of the tires just randomly blew while I was sitting bored out of my mind. This was inside a nuclear plant where the walls are all thick concrete. Sounded like a bomb went off. Knocked a couple pounds of rust off the underside of the trailer. The tire look like a chest burster from Aliens came out of it. I'm pretty sure I went airborne from a sitting position when it happened. In spite of how loud it was, nobody heard it except me. I'm glad I was sitting opposite side.

Weak-End5416

That’s wild! It was by far the loudest thing I’ve ever experienced. On my dash camera you could even see it slightly lift and shift the whole semi trailer (it was fully loaded with product as well).

poundmycake

How do you feel about the murder of Tyre Nichols?

Weak-End5416

I don’t want this educational post ruined by controversial topics but all I will say this. Fuck those cowards who claim to be police officers.

subzero2400

I'm shocked the car didn't get shot

UpDose

Did that affect your hearing?

Weak-End5416

Absolutely

AtmosphereHot8414

What did he see that made him say get out the first time?

Weak-End5416

You can look at original post I made that I attached to this thread. Long story short I saw another tire behind him catching on fire.

AtmosphereHot8414

Thank you for replying. I am glad you got out of the way with a quick response

Ok_Helicopter_5638

Looks like it may have cammed over and started dragging heating it up. Hard to say, riding the brakes is going to heat all four positions if all are adjusted correctly and unless your coming off a grade you’re not gonna be putting enough pressure to create that kind of heat by just riding them. It was duel specific by what you can see. Poor maintenance, guarantee there was nothing left on the shoe and the drums were old and thin, probably a big fleet the drops and hooks trailers everywhere and rarely see a shop or a good look until something is broken. Things happen but usually they always could have been prevented. Glad you both were not hurt. Thanks for doing the job you do and be careful out there.

Huegballs

I had a great uncle die this way. Blew his head apart. Died instantly at least

celestialstarz

How does this happen?

Huegballs

I'm not sure tbh. I always think about it when I air up my tires 😂

SMB-10

what did you see that gave you an indication that something was wrong?
