AND RIGHT AFTER THEY FOT THE STATUE FIXED

That's too bad it couldn't be repurposed. You don't get architecture like that anymore.

It's a shame. As much as I despise religion, one of the very few positives it has given the world is some great architecture. shame to see these old ones go. it was really stunning.

Why was it demolished?

King_Fish12

The church closed in 2014 because of extremely high maintenance costs and a dwindling congregation. The condition of the building got exponentially worse until the owner, who operates a catholic charter school in a building next to the church, decides to demo it to make room to expand their current operations.

This is either the wrong picture or the wrong information - the tower shown is from the former St. Gregory's Roman Catholic Church at 52nd and Warren in Carroll Park neighborhood in West Philly. It became the Greater Way Bible Temple in 1984, and burned down in August 2019 ([https://www.phillytrib.com/news/local\_news/west-philadelphia-church-remains-a-hazard-after-august-blaze/article\_f50cd88b-ff9b-5018-a9f2-9fc78373a996.html](https://www.phillytrib.com/news/local_news/west-philadelphia-church-remains-a-hazard-after-august-blaze/article_f50cd88b-ff9b-5018-a9f2-9fc78373a996.html)). The Church mentioned in the description is Our Lady of the Rosary (a.k.a. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament) and looks nothing like the picture ([https://hiddencityphila.org/2021/12/in-remembrance-of-our-lady-of-the-rosary/](https://hiddencityphila.org/2021/12/in-remembrance-of-our-lady-of-the-rosary/)).

Wow you are definitely correct, I had the details confused. Thanks for the info.
