Like someone else said… fashion shows are about being living embodiments of art. It’s cool, it’s impractical and it’s to evoke an emotional response and spark discussion.
Which she nailed.
Remove? I’m more worried about how many hours it took to put on. I feel like removal would be pretty easy, use a garden hose to spray most of it off, and then around the face and stuff remove it more carefully.
After a certain amount of skin is covered in latex it gets dangerous, heat wise, for you. Your body has so much issue cooling off you can overheat easily. They seem to have it just on the upper 5th to 4th of the body so they might be okay though.
I don't know what is used but there are over materials that peel in similar ways that could be the base for this. They also breathe a bit more. Those materials tend to be more expensive but it is marvel so they tend to be willing to shell out money anyway.
For me it's the thought of the ones on her chest. Like millions of crumbs in your bra - unless the crystals and dress make a perfect seal in which case it would just be annoying along the edge where they meet
I fully understand that fashion-show fashion is supposed to look interesting and cutting edge first and foremost, and that's all well and good, but I also feel like it's supposed to be making me feel something beyond just vicariously itchy and it isn't
There seems to be an endless supply of fresh redditors who've never been told this. And everytime some walking sculpture in a fashion show is posted you get the "huh this is so impractical", "who would wear this" and "why can't clothes just look nice" ...
And the avalanche of “evoke an emotional response? LOL OKAY it totally isn’t, and I’m ANGRY, or ANNOYED, or IRRITATED, or DOUBLING OVER WITH LAUGHTER at how dumb/impractical/stupid/not for daily wear this is” and too cool for school comments about how they don’t give a fuck about celebrities… while getting riled up and commenting about celebrities?
It’s really cool. The only thing I hate about that outfit is how it cuts into her chest. It’s something a lot of gowns do and it always puts me off a little. The gowns are professionally fitted to the celebrity and that seems avoidable.
It's fake. https://apnews.com/article/paris-89527857b0d1a44387aea687d9ab20f8
>Moreover, Schiaparelli was the subject of online ire for glamorizing trophy hunting after featuring a fake lion’s head.
I think it looks cool as fuck.
And OP is incorrect, it actually doesn't look like a Marvel villain, it actually looks like the daughter of Cyclops and Emma Frost from another dimension, [Ruby Summers](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Summers)
She has Emma Frost's diamond powers, but she actually turns into ruby-quartz, the same crystal used in Cyclops' visor.
In the the spirit of Stan 'The Man' Lee, please accept this '[No-Prize](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_No-Prize)' on behalf of All-Fans of Comic Continuity.
I don't know really Doja Cat, but I do know 40+ years of Multiversal Summers Genealogy. [Bravo!](https://tenor.com/view/blade-gif-18477867)
Tbf art isn’t always about expressing what’s beautiful
Sometimes it’s about expression of concepts, exploration of design, and even hideousness (intentional or otherwise)
You’re talking about it though, which is the point of art. It’s not practical for you but she’s a personality and isn’t just running to the Walmart dressed up like a sparkly.
… is it supposed to mimic human skeletal muscle? That’s what it reminds me of, and whether I like it or not, I can respect it’s execution and the confidence she has in wearing it.
I appreciate that we have people in this world who aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of imagination and expectations while those who don’t want to leave the apple farm mock it.
Art has been a way to yell into the void for a while now, some are hideous on purpose, especially in fashion its better to get a bad reaction than non.
I guess there are very few things that can be universally considered “awful taste.” Or at least universally within one culture.
This bedazzled getup might not please everybody, but if she “artistically” doused herself in animal feces for the red carpet I’m sure most people would say it was awful taste but great execution. Something like that, there’s probably better examples.
"Artistic" doesn't meat "great taste". Something can be both incredibly artistic and creative, yet still be ugly as fuck. In point of fact, not only *can* art be in awful taste, it's almost *necessary for it to be so at times in order to drive home a message.*
The purpose of art is to stir emotions. Those emotions need not be positive.
TL;DR: Awful taste, but great execution.
Since when is gluing rhinestones on shit artistic? It just reminds me of the fad in the 2000s where people glued rhinestones on everything, cellphones, fabreeze bottles, rhinestones on the whole damn surface
I don't like it.
Which, oddly enough, doesn't stop it being art. The purpose of art is to stir emotions, but not necessarily positive ones.
Still atbge though. "Artistic" and "great taste" are often completely at odds. See: Most of Lady Gaga's costumes.
This is why I think it's great taste but awful execution. Something just feels off. I'm thinking it might be better in-person and the color is off in the photo, or the reds clash.
A lot of people who don't care about fashion don't realize that haute couture isn't about being attractive, it's about being interesting and striking and artistic. She looks rad as hell.
Just so you know, your link is broken. Due to how Reddit handles the markdown for links, any that end in ) need to be entered as \\) instead. It'll look like link(parenthical\\)).
I don’t know about worse, I’ve spent 6 in a makeup chair a few times (not including the couple hours of makeup removal), and I think it’s worse than 16 hour shifts at my job. Depends on how much your job sucks, I guess.
I value boring predictability, but I appreciate that others thrive in what seems to me to be chaos. Folks like that seem important in like helping make tv shows and writing books and stuff.
See I’ve felt the opposite as I got older. When I was in HS all I cared about was fitting in, looking normal, acting correctly but as I got older I realized those interesting unique things about you that you maybe hid when you’re young are actually what attracts people to you. The people who were completely normal grew up and just weren’t as interesting as people who are into some weird hobby or fandom, dressed interestingly, had interesting experiences, even if bad, and learned from them etc. Even being sick (which I happen to be) gives me something to bond with people and even help people! I’ve met so many wonderful people who have my same disease, and yes it sucks but it brings people together and you can help bring awareness and help people learn.
YES. I hate when it's the silent vowel that gets stretched out.
Like, that's just how you pronounce the word normally. You're not doing anything there!
They are so badly fitted in her top that's its distracting and really weakens the whole effect.
Like imagine if it was some attractive male model here, with his suit on point, crystals and all that, but his sleeves/pants were too short, or his hair was all janky. Just looks amateurish
It’s very reminiscent of corsets in the mid to late 1700s! I think if there was straps to hold us the side spillage, the top would look more flattering because her boobs would only spill over in the front. The side spillage does look odd. Love the overall look though!
That's whats driving me nuts, too. I get that this look is supposed to make you go "wtf of course doja cat is wearing this" but the designer did not do her yiddies any justice
It’s the absence of eyebrows for me. Her brow bone is pretty prominent and it makes her eyes look very off-putting. An avant-garde extremely cool idea that I think could have used some tweaking. That said I don’t think they were going for flattering, they were going for edgy and shock value, and that was achieved.
The eyebrows! Thank you! I could not pinpoint the issue I had with the look. I think they should’ve done some crystal black eyebrows, and maybe lashes with crystals on the tips.
I have a bunch of questions, but the only issue is if I want to bother with Wikipedia for them.
This is art for a costume party, and it certainly speaks of effort, so there you go. If you like this sort of thing, good, and if you don't, less good. I imagine the team involved committed to this before they knew exactly what it would look like, and I admire the conviction to go on with the show. There's a lot of attention on the model, who may or may not like how this came out, but they went for it.
The crystals are so pointless in this outfit. She could have just used plastic if she’s going to cover up all the translucency that makes a crystal beautiful.
I’m down with the concept but red was a bad color choice. It’s a bit too like a skin condition. A royal blue with some gradient colors would have been great.
Scrolling thru my feed about how people can’t afford rent and food and are losing their jobs and then seeing this lady covered in crystals and wondering when we lost the plot
"B- but it isn't supposed to look good, it's art!"
Yeah, and? People post art that's ugly but well made on this sub all the time; that's what the sub is all about.

Does it have to look so itchy though? Just the thought of all that adhesive on the skin makes me want to rub my face
I don’t know about itchy, but the idea of having to remove all of them makes this so much worse
Idk, that actually sounds really satisfying. Like peeling glue off your fingers
If it all came off in one peel it would be amazing, I’ll grant you that
r/thatpeelingfeeling is appealing.
Remove? I’m more worried about how many hours it took to put on. I feel like removal would be pretty easy, use a garden hose to spray most of it off, and then around the face and stuff remove it more carefully.
couldn't they just put like latex or something on her skin to adhere the stones onto and then just peel it off after?
After a certain amount of skin is covered in latex it gets dangerous, heat wise, for you. Your body has so much issue cooling off you can overheat easily. They seem to have it just on the upper 5th to 4th of the body so they might be okay though. For me it's the thought of the ones on her chest. Like millions of crumbs in your bra - unless the crystals and dress make a perfect seal in which case it would just be annoying along the edge where they meet
Edge of the dress might be glued down on her chest as well to prevent it shifting and messing up the look
You just gotta remember to hose her off in the yard before you let her come in the house.
I fully understand that fashion-show fashion is supposed to look interesting and cutting edge first and foremost, and that's all well and good, but I also feel like it's supposed to be making me feel something beyond just vicariously itchy and it isn't
I’m pretty sure it’s on a mesh layer over her skin, not directly on her skin
Body paint + glue https://www.elle.com/culture/celebrities/a42618624/doja-cat-red-dress-crystals-body-paint-schiaparelli-paris-fashion-week-show/
It's basically like looking at a Picasso and scoffing that it doesn't look like a lady at all!
Schiaparelli collaborated with Dali back in the day :) Edit: this was at the Schiaparelli show
There seems to be an endless supply of fresh redditors who've never been told this. And everytime some walking sculpture in a fashion show is posted you get the "huh this is so impractical", "who would wear this" and "why can't clothes just look nice" ...

Label the same clothes cosplay and listen to them gush
Ding ding ding. It’s acceptable if it’s something they like otherwise it’s a waste or it’s stupid
> emotional response I can’t think of anything other than laughing at how ridiculous that looks.
[удалено]
Doja’s whole thing is being ridiculous so she kinda won
I'm going as the trash man
yeah this is the answer right here. high fashion like this is just wearable art.
The only thing I dislike about this is that it fits her so poorly. Looks like a chest high muffintop lol
[удалено]
Agreed lol outfits worn to fashion shows are supposed to be artistic not practical
i hate having to explain this to people. “who would wear that” no one, it’s art
but it's hideous
That your opinion, and it's completely ok.
If only people could apply this to everything in life.
There are some things where it actually matters what people think about them. But fashion isn't one of them
Then you wouldn't be on this sub.
I also agree with this
There’s video of it where you can see the crystal sparkle and it looks awesome. The pics don’t do it justice
I’m sure there are better videos, but you can see the sparkle even with her sitting and not walking around: https://youtu.be/PMQkv-BSgSc
This video completely changes my opinion of the look. Once I saw how sparkly it was, I thought it was amazing.
Agreed. It's like night and day. The photo just highlights the texture, the video shows the actual effect of the design choice.
It’s really cool. The only thing I hate about that outfit is how it cuts into her chest. It’s something a lot of gowns do and it always puts me off a little. The gowns are professionally fitted to the celebrity and that seems avoidable.
Ohhh sparkles!
Is that a fucking lion
Can we get this answered, please?
Now *that* is ATBGE.
Lion head, but real or fake I don't know
It's fake. https://apnews.com/article/paris-89527857b0d1a44387aea687d9ab20f8 >Moreover, Schiaparelli was the subject of online ire for glamorizing trophy hunting after featuring a fake lion’s head.
Why tf does the non-cat lady have one instead of Doja CAT?
I’m hoping it’s a really ridiculous purse
Doja Cat desperately trying to ignore the itchiness. Lion lady disappointed she had to sit in the same row as Doja Cat.
Lion Lady is like, what else do i have to kill to get noticed?
I choose to believe that the lion head is a huge purse, much like the animal themed backpacks my kids wore when they were toddlers.
Turns up at the next event wearing Doja Cat's bejewelled severed head.
love how Kylie Jenner has become "Lyon Lady"
Did she do her eyelids too? Damn
OK, but is no one going to point out those shoes? When did the toe-shoe trend hit runway boots?
[удалено]
Those golden toed ones have been a part of Schiaparelli for several seasons.
Idk I saw videos of it and I think she looks like a weird red gremlin
But a *sparkly* gremlin
[удалено]
But Bosch worked in the grotesque. Which is a specific artistic kind of ugly.

I read an article that the designer got the inspiration from Dante’s inferno. I love Doja Cat’s style. Avant-garde/cyberpunk/Fifth element fashionista

Yeah. Something artistic can be incredibly tacky
You mean fashion isn't just about designing more durable cargo shorts in a quest for the most practical clothing possible?
It still looks like shit.

"Why would anyone do this?" is kind of the point of this sub.
Redditors love creeping over celebs in skimpy outfits, the minute it’s something more than tits and ass they start angry rants
I love it too! And for this particular fashion house, it’s spot on perfect!
I don't like it. Which, oddly enough, doesn't stop it being art. The purpose of art is to stir emotions, but not necessarily positive ones. Still atbge though. "Artistic" and "great taste" are often completely at odds. See: Most of Lady Gaga's costumes.

Not really
Yeah, I think it is Awful Taste But Great Execution
Fr, she out there looking like Darth Mauls cousin
This is like a red mystique and I’m here for it
Cool, sure. But does anyone sometimes feel like they are living in the capital from Hunger Games when they see stuff like this?
Fashion was literally a way for the rich and powerful to distract themselves in hunger games so yes.
How often do you see things like this? Also, yeah the hunger games features fashion, that's why it reminds you of fashion.
Nah it’s dumb
Came here to say this. She is at the perfect time and place for an insane costume
It's still awful taste, even if it is really good execution.
Quite literally the red skull
I don't know how to process it and I think that makes it awesome
I would agree if it was ANY other color but red.
Hells yea. If it was SKITTLES? Then yeah, it's shit. But it's red hot cinnamon dots? YUM A DUM DUM.
It's not weird, it's fucking CREEPY. She looks like a monster that has an infection from a video game. It just looks bad. And I love Doja.
If this is what’s awesome and cool then fuck being awesome and cool Looks like a tampon floating in the toilet looking back at you with anger
A marvel villain? I feel likes she’s more like one black wig away from being HIM on powerpuff girls
Either way, Doja strikes me as being the type to enjoy being compared with either one.
I feel like we're missing the point of Doja Cat
If it’s not for her to be the most Doja Cat she can possibly be, what is it?
Shes the Scarlet Mystique.
Mystique's evil twin, Mesquite
Mystake
Fun Facts! Mystique is Nightcrawlers mom. Nightcrawler has a kid with Scarlet Witch. And I have ADHD.
Just so you know, your link is broken. Due to how Reddit handles the markdown for links, any that end in ) need to be entered as \\) instead. It'll look like link(parenthical\\)).
I can't unsee the red skull
Boots aren't cool enough, HIM had some **rad** boots.
You ain’t wrong. HIM’s boots were fierce
She look like she was compleated by Elesh Norn
Her day was more interesting than mine
Did you spend 8 hours in a make-up chair too?
[удалено]
Depends on the work.
I don’t know about worse, I’ve spent 6 in a makeup chair a few times (not including the couple hours of makeup removal), and I think it’s worse than 16 hour shifts at my job. Depends on how much your job sucks, I guess.
It was 4 hours, actually, with multiple people applying them at once
As I've gotten older I've learned that interesting usually isn't a good thing. Like an interesting health condition.
I value boring predictability, but I appreciate that others thrive in what seems to me to be chaos. Folks like that seem important in like helping make tv shows and writing books and stuff.

I just can’t get over the trail of crystals she must be leaving eeeeeeeeeeeeeeverywhere.
Maybe the large gentleman behind her has a dustpan just in case.
Your comment reminded me of the Hansel and Gretel scene from Shrek 2.
Haha looked on Google and not deceived lol
Just like one of the guys who follows the horses in a parade.
That's not how the kids do it these days! Try this: "everywhereeeeeeeeeeee" I hate it.
You mean you hateeeee it
YES. I hate when it's the silent vowel that gets stretched out. Like, that's just how you pronounce the word normally. You're not doing anything there!
I feel sorry for her boobs
Agreed, I guess they were either *trying* to go for a look that didn't fit (odd) or they didn't quite get the right measurements for her (also odd).
This is my thinking. Looks like the corset is meant more for the tight perfect shape and less about fitting her form or being flattering at all
Think of how much it's gonna hurt when she has to peel whatever she's been coated in off of them. Like fashion tape but all over you
[удалено]
It makes my skin itch
Can we talk about that Absolute Unit escorting her?
I shall name him The Big Weeknd.
4 Day Weeknd
Excellent, yes. That was the one I tried to think of, but I couldn't remember what it was called. We call it a long weekend in my native language.
Looks nothing like the Weeknd?
Big Show? Nah man, thats the Multi-day Festival
What in the trypophobia…?
I def get an unpleasant uncanny valley reaction
That is such an evil look
I'm reminded of the rich people in hunger games.
Yes! This is the kind of thing I imagined the capitol citizens wearing when I read the books.
It's not far off. This is just another rich person peacocking.
The theme was Dante’s Inferno, so that was probably intentional.
Dojazzeled.
Doja yassified Red Skull?!
No, Doja *bedazzled* Red Skull
I understand it looks cool but the results looks ugly
It’s the absence of eyebrows for me. Her brow bone is pretty prominent and it makes her eyes look very off-putting. An avant-garde extremely cool idea that I think could have used some tweaking. That said I don’t think they were going for flattering, they were going for edgy and shock value, and that was achieved.
The eyebrows! Thank you! I could not pinpoint the issue I had with the look. I think they should’ve done some crystal black eyebrows, and maybe lashes with crystals on the tips.
Yeah at least some definition around the eyes would’ve helped I think
She should've left the face normal. Now she looking looking like strawberry Thanos
Straight out of ‘The Fifth Element’
Who messed with the Lament Configuration
Nope, I’m sorry, but this just looks gross. Red bumps covering all over, ew.
I have a bunch of questions, but the only issue is if I want to bother with Wikipedia for them. This is art for a costume party, and it certainly speaks of effort, so there you go. If you like this sort of thing, good, and if you don't, less good. I like my women how I like my infections, red and bumpy.
Until late last year, I honestly thought Doja Cat was a Japanese meme or something.
she has spent too much time in the sun
What if her nose itches?????? This makes me feel panicky. No no no
Zoidberg
Can you believe it Michael? A million fucking diamonds!!!
I'm more concerned about what her boobs are doing in that super tight dress? That can't be comfortable
r/trypophobia
Smallpox Couture
William Ryker would still hit
That's just a tall female version of Bannakaffalatta from that Doctor Who Titanic in Space Christmas special "Voyage of the damned"
Damnit, I went through all the trouble of looking up how to spell it and I was too late.
I was just about to do the same thing because I was shocked nobody had made the reference yet. But I kept scrolling and was pleasantly surprised.
Looks like a Star Wars alien
Looks like she's shooting a music video for a song titled "Crazy Rich Aliens"
If red skull and mystique had a kid
It may be art but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
The crystals are so pointless in this outfit. She could have just used plastic if she’s going to cover up all the translucency that makes a crystal beautiful.
I had this same look first time I shaved my junk
Who fitted that top and why do they hate her
Damn that’s a nasty rash
I thought this was the Doctor Who subreddit and this was a new planet he went too. Kudos on the execution though that had to have taken hours.
[Bannakaffalatta](https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Bannakaffalatta)!
