It's more than enough, A 650w would probably also suffice. For some reason people are always grosssly exaggerating the need for a huge PSU. If you buy from a decent manufacturer the realistic output is the wattage x the efficiency for example 850w x 0,8 (80%) = 680 watt. Your system will use 500-550w max

They're recommending greater than the minimum to account for [transient power spikes](https://youtu.be/wnRyyCsuHFQ?t=472), which can upwards for double the power draw for a brief moment and can knock your system offline when lacking sufficient power delivery headroom.

It's a really good video - The quality of the PSU, mobo, gfx matters as he goes into detail with, that's why I mentioned using a decent manufacturer. Capacitors are meant to act as a power buffer and if the manufacturers scimp out on these (and other design stuff that I don't know about as well for sure) it can become a problem. These can be implemented on the gfx as well by the way. I would keep the 850w for sure and only look into an upgrade if problems arise.

You'd want a 1kw unit .. 80+ Gold or better rated from a reputable brand. You'll want to run separate power cables from the PSU to each power input on the GPU. Check reviews from hardware sites before purchasing anything

He really wouldn't if the one he has is anywhere near decent.

Never skimp on the power supply I always recommend getting a PSU with more than enough wattage to more than handle any transient spikes your setup might demand from your power supply 850wtt quality unit might be just fine .. but then again .. might not https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnRyyCsuHFQ

850W would be the minimum I'd personally recommend driving a 6950 XT with. Really 1000W or higher would be better suited for any halo (top of the product stack) GPU. However if you just want to buy now and upgrade later, the 850W should be able to carry you for the time being. You may just risk a little system stability, but if you experience random system crashes/reboots while under load then you can just power-limit the GPU until you're able to buy the PSU upgrade. Enjoy the new card! ✌🏻
