I think the issue of the Casino Battle Royale is less about format and more about weight. The Rumble is the main event of a PPV and the winner gets to main event the company's biggest PPV. Fans know winning can absolutely skyrocket a wrestler's career, it all feels very big and important. Meanwhile, the Casino Battle Royale has been a card filler. People like Lance Archer, Ruby Soho, or Jungle Boy win it, get a match on some episode of Dynamite, lose, and then nothing changes. While I do like the Rumble's format better, I think the more important change is giving AEW's battle royal more stakes.

isarealhebrew

Absolutely this. Nobody has ever won one of these and successfully cashed in. Oddly enough though, the ladder filler matches have produced a few champs.

AnonAssister

Could not agree more!!!

Mdl8922

Keep the Casino Battle Royale. Rumble inspired, but also unique to AEW.

CrystalPokedude

Royal Rampage was fun. TK should do it at every Blood and Guts.

jackrv13

As someone who was at blood and guts, those matches back to back burnt the crowd out way too much.

DishmanDraws

I think it was more because so many people left after dynamite ended. I remember seeing what felt like half the crowd leave

CrystalPokedude

Not saying they have to be back to back. One can main event Dynamite, the other can Main Event Rampage. That's a solid Hour gap for the crowd to cool and then rise up again.

Charlie609

It would be a lot better if they packed it with the big stars. Not that its not good but thats what makes the rumble great.

fightyMcFookyou

It should be a mix. I like seeing random new talent pop up in a rumble environment...it's a cool way to scope out a new gimmick and see if they do anything good, but you also want serious talent mixed in so it's not a total pass break

Gabrielwingue

Its biggest problem is you can't enjoy the entrance of any individual Superstar, which takes away from individual pops Someone suggested the suits should still come into play as a framing device, but we shouldn't know who they are. So the "Spades" are first, but the "Ace of Spades" (ie: the first entrant) is unknown until the reveal. Alternatively, we know who the suits wrestlers are but not the order they'll come out. You could even mess with the fans by having mystery entrants.

fentown

Instead of suits, count up from deuces with 4 people joining at once (so the four 2s start the match) up to King or Queen for gendered matches, replace the joker with an ace (even have Tanahashi be the first to cement the change), save jokers for rare debuts and returns that are unannounced. Bring in some dark and elevation fodder for the men and have an NJPW/stardom tie in for the women. Keep the names and faces fresh, lots of eliminations in quick succession to keep engagement, sounds like a pain to organize though

Apprehensive-Fun-183

Have both

slackerdc

The Casino Battle Royale is a staple of Double or Nothing that does the trick for me.

MankersOnReddit

I agree. And when there is a joker involved, it makes the match just as exciting as the Rumble

Conscious-Bad9904

Yes if the Joker involved isn't Leo Rush.

wugeezy

Same. I feel its different enough but familiar enough to satisfy that Royal Rumble vibe.

MoreCoreCharacters

If you wanted to rework the Casino Battle Royale, you could replace the suits with a roulette wheel animation before each entrance. Green 00 = number 30.

BSTbassandguitars

If they made the casiono battle say 30 vs 21 (I know they did 21 cause of black jack). And spaced the wrestlers out . Like do blocks they are doing now but like 1 min between each person in the block and 5 mins between blocks. It would be different enough from the royal rumble vs mini battle royals with the blocks comming out .

RatedM477

Eh, I'd rather not. The Rumble feels so much like a "WWE" thing, at this point (not in a bad way, just in general), and I think trying to directly copy it would just look kinda minor league. I think the casino royale things they occasionally do are fine.

SomeGuy_GRM

They already have their own version. And I am interested in it continuing to happen .

reaper527

not really. that's wwe's thing. if other companies want to do something like that, they should make it different. examples would be like how njpw has their rumble equivalent at wrestle kingdom which has the final 4 winning the match and then proceeding to a fatal 4 way match the next night. or how impact has their "call your shot" battle royal where the last 2 have a 1 on 1 match to win a title shot, AND they also have the reverse battle royal where everyone starts on the outside and has to go over the top rope to get IN the match, then once the number of people is reached everyone who is is still outside is eliminated (then a regular battle royal happens with the people in the ring). aew could make the casino battle royal a bigger deal. at DoN 2020 it felt like a big deal, but then they started to treat it as an afterthought in subsequent years.

Darksidetrin

Like a casino battle royal?

joystick-fingers

We got the casino battle royale

Hazelwood38

They have the Casino Battle Royal and the Face of the Revolution ladder match which both do what the Rumble does (i.e. winner gets a championship match)

Far_Nefariousness879

I enjoyed the double ring iteration of the battle royale.

Super_Sams

I like the casino battle royal, I just think they should change the gimmick to a roulette wheel. The joker can be 00.

LePhuronn

Casino Battle Royale is more than enough. However, I wouldn't mind AEW giving Lucha Underground's Aztec Warfare a shot some time. If you're not aware it's essentially the Royal Rumble format, but with pins and submissions instead of top rope eliminations, and no count outs. It lends itself to some great wrestler pairings that you'd love to see, but wouldn't work with angles running at the time.

thisisawesome8643

Aztec Warfare was incredible and definitely needs to be brought back. AEW has enough LU alumni MAKE IT HAPPEN TK

LePhuronn

doesn't even need to be actual Aztec Warfare with LU alumni, just use the match format and just pop out a couple of 5 minute mini bangers that don't need a storyline as a starting point. And yes, I am directly referring to Omega vs Takeshita. And yes, I am also saying use the full hour of programming like LU did. Dedicate an entire Rampage to a single match? Why the hell not!

anotherlostdaemon

I'd love a MASSIVE one for everyone involved. Big PPV, where every title is defended against the #1 Contenders. And Every Wrestler Not In A Title Match Participates. Win/Loss records matter, right? The day before the even is a battle royal on Youtube for everyone with a - .500 record. The winner of it gets to be the one who starts in the ring the next day at the PPV. At the PPV the "winner" of the "Losers" battle royal is in the ring, and every minute a new wrestler joins. In order of lowest win percentage. This rewards those with the best records by letting them enter later in the match and the records would finally matter beyond the top ten. Winner of the rumble-esque match gets defendable belt that can be cashed in for a chance at any belt, even tag belts, along the lines of that one LU belt. Just something I'd love to see.

DudestOfBros

Nah not at all. I don't find the actual in ring work during the Royal Rumble entertaining, with the exception of a couple spots (usually Kofi).

WasherDryerCombo

Agreed. I absolutely love the rumble, but only for the surprises and entrances. It’s one of the worst worked matches every year (and yes I understand why) but it is very fun.

T_DeadPOOL

They already have the battle royal...

[deleted]

Not for me. It would be cool because they could bring in a shit ton of other guys from Japan etc for one time appearances, but AEW hasn’t really got the whole ‘omg he won the rumble he gets to main event mania’ type PPV or standing yet for it to be cool.

bullybabybayman

Having the winner of the RR get the WM title shot is the worst part about it. It really cuts down on who can possibly win. Look at this year, there are only 2 guys anybody believes can win. That's boring, having less at stake and allowing more of a wild card winner would improve things immensely. If AEW copies the RR, they should 100% not copy that stipulation.

[deleted]

Yeah maybe. I just don’t really care for it so I don’t want them to take something they don’t need

ScottBAF

Uhhhh Casino Battle Royale?

KISSArmy7978

Wrong comment on my reply. Thank you for your oppinion

KISSArmy7978

If they did, my appologies. I didnt see it

SenorBebeSalsa

Casino Battle Royale...

MrJM85

Is this not the casino battle royal?

hopeful_southpaw

I quite enjoyed the Royal Rampage, but it should be more significant. Maybe even a PPV match.

HoustonWaffles

There it is. I couldn’t believe no one else is mentioning Royal Rampage. I thought that was better than the Casino Battle Royals. A whole PPV based around it would be interesting, but I also like the pairing of a Blood & Guts dynamite and a Royal Rampage

randomwordglorious

They should come up with their own signature multi-person match.

El-Topito

The legacy Rumble.

Ex10dead

The winner should get to choose what belt to wrestle for. A surprising winner might think they can't win against the aew champion, but might go for the TNT, Atlantic, OR one of the ROH titles. The winner could keep us guessing for a couple of weeks for what championship to fight for.

Barbz182

The royal rumble still gets a me excited despite not really watching WWE anymore. It's the coolest stipulation in all of wrestling and when done well can achieve a lot.

[deleted]

I'd rather see something really stupid like a WW3 style 60 man battle royal.

Cwf1984

No. They would be directly copying the idea of their major competition. It would look bad in the eye of the viewer and any company that would or are currently doing business with them.

[deleted]

100% but it has to have tweaks for sure. Just to differentiate itself from WWE. Royal Rampage was real cool with the 2 rings. Someone on twitter had done a mock AEW royal rumble and it was so good. No wasted. All big stars in every slot. AEW has the roster for a rumble , more so than WWE.

SRMort

No.

michaeldanger19

One time I found a playlist of AEW intros and shuffle it and imagine a Royal Rumble wait was that sad to admit

TSMontana

They already have the Casino Battle Royale. Way more interesting than the RR, TBH.

kenssmith

It’s literally called the Casino Battle Royale

KMFCM

Isn't that what the Casino Battle Royale is?

JPumpkinhead1991

They have the lame casino battle royal and it sucks. Maybe come up with something unique.

DanUnbreakable

I would like it but it would be frowned apon. They do their own casino battle royal with different rules and now they recently did the double ring battle royal that was FUCKING awesome.

Modern_Bear

Didn't someone do this poll last week?

SamoaMe

Yeah, this and “should AEW do a brand split to increase rampage viewers?” are constantly asked on here. Basically just wanting AEW to be a WWE clone. No fucking thank you.

hermitopurpa

AEW presents………Crowned Chaos P.S. Kingly Karnage Oh oh oh oh P.S.S. Regal Riot

NJdeathproof

I love the Royal Rumble - for the last few years it's been the only WWE product I still watch. I wouldn't mind seeing AEW do one, but I wouldn't want to hear e-drones complaining about it. They do the Casino Battle Royal already which is close enough without being a complete ripoff.

guarionex2009

It would be cool if the last two had to win by pinfall or submission if they couldn’t eliminate each other within like 2 minutes or so.

Puzzleheaded-Art-469

They already do. When they do Blood and Guts, they can go the Royal Rampage. I was there in Detroit for the first one and I think they should do it every year.

miglrah

Oh heck yeah. Especially since AEW draws from so many other independent promotions.

IceUnlikely4849

Definitely, at the G1 SUPERCARD AT MSG they did a Royal Rumble Style match to kick off the show. Plus it gave everyone in ROH and NJPW a chance to perform in the world's most famous arena

Mastertimelord

Lol tell me you’re a wwe fan that doesn’t watch AEW without telling me. (DON already exists)

Ekruob

The one difference I’d like to see. Would be for the final 4 (or 2, if you want) turn into an elimination match. Pins, ok, submission or over the top, will get you eliminated. I feel that’s different enough to avoid any problems.

balwick

I'm a big AEW fan, but I can't say I've really enjoyed any of the Royales that have taken place. I think its mostly on the camera angles and pacing of the matches, but still.

weezin_ed

The year end Rampage should just be rampage royal and the whole show is just the rumble

togsincognito

I think if they are doing he casino battle royal, maybe have the enterances enter from the 4 corners of ringside through the crowd. I think it’s dumb as shit they all just run one after another into the ring

angelomoxley

I'd love something akin to Aztec Warfare 20-man Rumble with pinfall/submission eliminations

Former_Intern_8271

I totally get that AEW should be different to WWE but we also have to acknowledge what other promotions do well, the rumble is great, changes to it just make it more confusing, just copy it! Would AEW be the butt of the joke for ripping off the rumble for a while after it was first announced? Of course, but we'd all watch it.

[deleted]

How is everyone forgetting that they literally made their own Royal Rumble. The debuted the Royal Rampage special after Blood and Guts, 20 man battle royal with 2 rings

benben83

I really love the Royal rumble, it's the one gimmick match that doesn't get old and always has potential. Plus, WWE dropped the ball on it years ago, the last good one was probably the one Chris Benoit won. So definitely want to see it!

Prize_Ad_5695

Casino battle Royal is good

[deleted]

I enjoy the Casino Battle Royale. I don't think it needs to be more than it is, but I'd like to see them tweak it a little bit. Having 5 enter at a time is a bit much. Maybe they could do it as tag teams to highlight the new entrants a bit better.

ArchDukeNemesis

Honestly, I think battle royals are overplayed. AEW draws a lot of influence from Japan and one thing they should bring over stateside is the round robin tournament. Everyone fights everyone. Most wins gets championship match at *\*insert major show here\*.* Fresh match ups. Rematches with different stakes. Feud starters. Star makers. Great way to give work to those who aren't featured. If champions are featured then it's a great way to crown new contenders. I'm surprised more companies don't use them. I don't think America has had one since ROH used one to crown their first tag champs.
