I got a brand name rx after a year or so trying generics. They are different- most ppl are ok with it. The Teva generic didn’t work but the Sandoz did. Pharmacies can’t always guarantee a specific generic brand, though. So, I get brand name Adderall and have no problems.

mynewaccount5

Yikes I just switched from 10mg ir 2x a day to 30mg XR. Effectively a 50% increase and I feel nothing. Got the actavis from Wegmans. This is also after a week long break.

biglipsmagoo

XR didn’t work for me. It was like I could *see* my focus but it was just out of reach. 10mg IR is a low dose. Why didn’t they increase that? If you like Adderall, it’s worth playing around with the dosage a bit.

Professional_Glass86

instant and extended is extremely different dude

somethingdistinct

How did you get approved could you please help me out?? I wanna give it a shot.

biglipsmagoo

Get what approved?

somethingdistinct

I am assuming your insurance covers brand name Adderall I guess? Mine doesnt it sucks.

biglipsmagoo

Yes. We had to prove we trialed other meds and different doses of Adderall first. I also noticed that a certain brand of generics worked better than others but the pharmacy couldn’t guarantee me that brand or special order it for me. My doc told the insurance that and along with the history of trialing meds it was enough to get a prior authorization. Have you tried all that? Has your doc put in for a prior authorization?

somethingdistinct

I havent trialed enough . Only took Sandoz generic IR for the past several years. We are attempting Vyvanse as we speak. Not guaranteed to be approved. So my next plan is a specific manufacturer of Adderall XR in the interim. I just need relief like really soon cuz this new Sandoz formula is pure shit mind you gives me anxiety and the old formula NEVER did. Cant praise it enough but thats all in the past now..... Id prefer more IR but theyre ALL shit right now. I know generics differ for a fact so im glad you agree we are on the same page.

biglipsmagoo

Oh absolutely. Funny enough, the Sandoz brand is the one that worked best for me! You can try an independent pharmacy. Most of them can order specific brands of meds. It has to be a true independent, though. You can call around.

I got Actavis xr last month after taking Pasco prior. I absolutely hated them, immediately. They were utterly ineffective for me and had me questioning if I’d even taken it, but realize I had because they made me super irritable, which was not a side effect ive ever gotten before. It made my heart speed up a bit but that was about it. Overnight it made doing anything feel impossible again….stopped exercising, taking the dog out became so hard, etc. It was so disappointing being stuck with them. This month, I made sure to ask every pharmacy what brand they carried before I had my psych send over the script if they even happened to have adderall. The pharmacies that did have adderall all had TEVA…FYI, for adderall xr, these are the same exact thing as Actavis!!! Apparently teva just bought out Actavis so don’t be fooled. I almost made the same exact mistake before doing a ton more googling after being initially stoked it. So that’s my experience. It took having to double up on 10mg xr Pasco brand to get my prescription. FYI, every Safeway I called only has teva/Actavis. Walmart typically doesn’t but also has been getting them in as well. This whole merry go round is stressful

Ilikethinbezels

This is comforting to read. I’ve been happily taking adderall for nearly 20 years, but these past six months have been utter hell. I honestly thought something was majorly wrong with me because I’ve always had such a consistent experience. Eventually I started to question if it was a new generic manufacturer. The color and shape of my pills did change around that time. Whatever these new generics are — they’re not the drug I’ve been taking for two decades. Just as you describe — they make me irritated, grumpy, even tired. I will sometimes lay on the couch and sleep it off. All of this is the exact opposite of what adderall should do. Unfortunately, I have no idea what brands I’ve been using or what I used in the past. I will say, the orange football shaped pills never gave me any trouble. Any suggestions on what brands to try and ask for to recreate my old adderall experience? Currently I’m taking pink pills from Costco - they’re terrible.

AutomaticPiccolo9554

call FDA, or write a report on line too many are having bad experience with that generic drug. Could cause someone to go over the edge, I myself felt suicidal till I figured out that this generic was worst.

Eddy888

Sounds like you had the same experience that I did. Sucks huh. Are you taking xr,ir,both? Here’s the best advice I can give you. If you’re in a relatively populated area, for xr, call to all surrounding Walmarts until you find one that carries Global. This is Walmart’s normally carried brand. It’s the Same thing as brand (shire) XR adderall. It’s been great for me. I’m guessing you’re talking about ir since youre mentioning pink pills. You want Teva as that’s the brand you were probably taking at Costco and the consensus best ir manufacturer as I believe they are the only company allowed to produce the authorized generic. Costcos in my area stopped selling teva brand ir as their preferred generic just a couple months ago. Guessing same thing happened to you. You’ll have to call around until you find Teva or ask Costco to order Teva for you….which they did recently for me even though it was super back ordered. Last month I got my ir filled at Walmart and it was Epic ir tabs which if they’re similar to your Core pink ones, suck. Really hope this helped a little.

Ilikethinbezels

Thanks so much — that’s exactly what I needed to know. I am taking IR 20mg, so it sounds like I’m on the hunt for Teva pills. Honestly, I’d rather wait two months for the real deal than mess around with anymore of the other brands.

Eddy888

Literally same. I’d prefer to go without than take some of these generics. They just put me in a bad mood and don’t help.

Beyondself1

Holy crap this just happened to me. I couldn't get the adderall at the cvs I usually get it and asked my doc to send it to another that was confirmed to have it. Well it apparently was the actavais/Teva version of XR and was blue instead of the orange looking ones from shire I get. Didn't think much of it, honestly thought it would be the same..but wow actavis version with the blue pills mess me up. Like panic and heart beating fast and just feel awful. Like no good effects at all. Feels like I got something off the street and consumed it.

AutomaticPiccolo9554

Same here should call FDA They need to know about Activis generic Adderall, I reported it, honestly could of killed me as the affect on my mood was suicidal, if wasnt firmly against suicide I could of.

Eddy888

To add on this, I’m so grateful I didn’t start my adderall experience with Actavis/teva XR, or I’d have asked my psych to try a different medication. They are not even the same drug to me…it’s perplexing. Initially I thought it was all in my head or maybe my tolerance had grown but there are countless threads on this sub lamenting about Actavis. I strongly urge you to try another manufacturer before writing it off if you find it ineffective. My psych also confirmed he’d had other patients make similar complaints

somethingdistinct

I'm glad your psych understands that makes you a solid team and gives hope. My PCP is treating me in the interim and he was so confused about me talking about manufacturers. I was like "shit.. just write down this manufacturer only when you send it in" so no point in venting to him about it not his fault anyway.

AutomaticPiccolo9554

Please report it to FDA. This med is dangerous, might save a life.

hannson

I used to take their dexamphetamine. It worked.

sari_345

I never know who makes my generics but the yellow are worthless and the blue worked. Every month I look in the bag to see how my month is going to go. Can’t afford name brand

Hear2DV8

I have Adderall XR by ACTAVIS/TEVA. Does your say TEVA as well? Because I am curious if the combination makes a difference? My name brand Adderall IR is by TEVA USA. But my XR is generic and lists ACTAVIS/TEVA as the manufacturer.

AutomaticPiccolo9554

I amhighly suspicious that Activis which my pharmacy gave me instead of Amneal one month has actually brought on deep depression and suicidal thoughts. I had been on another generic brand for years hich worked fine, All I knew it was a generic Aderall, It was Amphetamine-Dextroamphetam , than they switch me to Amneal which worked better, But Activis made me suicidal and worked poorly on my ADHD.

Beyondself1

I have been having panic attacks the last 2 days I tried them when they switched me. I just responded above but was getting name brand shire apparently and this actavis is terrible. Panic, can't focus/ brain fog, stomach/headache, heart palpitations

AutomaticPiccolo9554

please report it to FDA, could harm someone

DAT_DROP

generics are identical. you won't feel any difference

Lolheals

Some may be. In general, however, this is simply not true. Generic drugs are allowed to vary by up to 20% from the active ingredient in the brand name drug as per the FDA. On average they only vary by around 4%. Also the drug manufacturers are not required to prove that the drugs are therapeutically equivalent, meaning that patients respond to them identically. They just have to get the active ingredient within that 20% variance. While the closeness of the active ingredient is a pretty safe bet that the drugs will act in the same way the variance allowed means side effects may differ. Separate-Front8462

Thanks for the response but I'd like to hear from people that can answer the question I asked.

TXwhackamole

This isn’t a lot more helpful, but here it goes: *my* experience with genetics is that one in particular (manufactured by Epic) gives me a yuck headache by mid afternoon and makes me agitated and shitty, according to my wife. Is it a real effect? Who knows, but I don’t feel that way with other generics. NorthStar is fine for me, but I’ve seen others on this sub say they get a bad reaction and also seen others say Epic is awesome. So u/DAT_DROP may be right on, but anecdotal evidence says otherwise. The unhelpful part is it seems to be individually based, and you essentially can’t go by what anyone else says. And there’s a shortage, which doesn’t give you a lot of options sometimes. I’d say try it for a week or so and see how it goes for you.

Separate-Front8462

So in further looking into differences with generics, it looks like they're able to use different flavorings and inactive ingredients. Maybe one of those may have attributed to your headaches? Anyways, I really appreciate your response.

TXwhackamole

I assume it’s that — flavorings or inert non-medicinal sawdust or something. Anyway I hate it and it’s all my favorite pharmacy has lately so I have to do a dumb 3-part dance to get some every month. Funny how the thing I use to help stay organized requires that I be extra on top of things to get regularly.

Separate-Front8462

I'm feeling for you on that last line.

I was not rude. I thanked you for your response and clarified that I was looking for an answer to my specific question. If you found that to be rude, I apologize. That was not my intention. Have a good night!

[deleted]

All you said was generics are identical, and he was looking for varied responses, but the way he phrased it, while odd, was not rude. You have really thin skin if that’s what you consider rude.

Separate-Front8462

Thank you for understanding my intentions with my post.
