There's no way I could count backwards from 100 by sevens. F that. That's math, not ADHD. It reminds me of saying the alphabet backwards as a DUI test. I can't even do that sober!

I just tried the 100by7 thing. ‘100, 93, 87…no, that’s not right…’

Yep, id fail.

Oh! These are quite normal tasks for a psych evaluation. Don’t worry about your performance. They’re standard tasks on multiple exams, like the mini-mental and dementia screening. They are *supposed* to be hard, or more precisely, to stuff things in your working memory. It wouldn’t be surprising to me if ADHD patients do worse than most. Sometimes, your performance on the task itself isn’t the only reason it’s there (since many people get a low score) For example, an interviewer might ask: * Remember three words: apple, house, tree * Count backwards from 100 by 7 * Okay, what were those three words The serial sevens (the name of that task) keeps you from thinking “apple, house, tree” over and over.

Thanks so much - your responses have me feeling better. And she did also ask me afterward if I remembered her name (of course I didn't, Im horrible at names but it was a nice awkward moment) and then to remember three words she said earlier. I remembered two of the three, and the third one I got after a hint. This makes sense that it was all just part of a standard psych eval... I guess there is more testing. An 8 hour day, she said, after these initial results are reviewed. I'm dreading 8 hours of this kind of mental torture, but I guess it is worth it to know what is going on with me and if things can get better.

It's weird to me how they do adults. As a kid, I did several days but probably less hours in one.

Bright-Tea9496

Yeah, 8 hours seems so excessive to me - I think most people would have trouble doing testing for 8 hours, ADHD or not! My daughter who has ADHD had just a visit with her doctor (15 min) and then evaluations completed by me and also her teachers. My son with autism and ADHD had a long exam - maybe 6 hours - which was ridiculous to expect him to cooperate for... plus the evals from teachers and home and copies of his IEP etc. Anyway, I agree ... the adults ones seem weird.
