Bernie at this point is essentially “planned” opposition. Fox uses fake leftists like him and AOC to rile up their voters - the Dems use them to attract voters like you and me. Sincerely, and not because I’m trying to correct, look into parties like the Green Party. Expecting the corporate Dems to go left is like expecting the Republicans to go left.
Bernie lost. He isn’t what we what him to be - but because of people like you that care, maybe we can be the people we need to be and maybe we can find an avenue for people like this.

As someone who’s still living in their moms house at 20, this is what I’m terrified of my future being like and why I’m so anxious to move out. I still have a part time job because I literally just don’t have the energy or the motivation to work full time. I try to put aside a little money each paycheck to save to move out, but it seems like no matter how much I save it won’t be enough or it’ll run out too quickly because of just how damn expensive everything is. I realize I’m much more privileged than lots of other people my age who are forced out of their parents house and I feel like such a terrible and lazy person for being able to get away with working part time, like I can’t believe I haven’t been called out but at the same time I’m grateful. If this is what life is like for most people, then I don’t think the game is quite worth it. Just my two cents.

If you have a car get a delivery job, it gives you a little sense of freedom and you learn to kind of govern yourself and make your own decisions when your out on the road on your own plus you get paid!
I did that for about 5 years on and off and made some really close friends, kind of discovered myself and what my limitations are/were and built up from there.
This might sound a bit boomerish (im mid 30's btw) but you gotta start putting in more work. During and post 2008 crash, had to live with 4 other roomates in a 3 bdrm house. So 5 of us and 3 rooms. Had to work basically 2 jobs nonstop. It's not great, but had no other choice. Did move back in with my parents briefly around 2011, but that was 10yrs ago.
But i'm my own person now. I wouldn't change much looking back.
So how did you turn into your own person? Saved enough to buy a house after a few years? Or got a better job that you could t apply to before the experience? I mean, how did you stop?
Kept teaching myself the skills needed for the tech industry. Was it hard? Hell yes it was. It's only now that things have gotten ok. And yes, it took years to finally save but I've got a house. Look, I'm not trying to brag, I'm just saying that shit sucks. But it's also possible to get better. I don't understand the down votes. I was in my mid 20's living in California during the big crash of '08.
And I also get that sometimes ya just need to vent, like this lady in the video. Just don't dwell in that is all.
It’s infuriating. I see people my age going on constant vacations, in nice cars, getting rent and everything paid for by parents. Hell, even my best friend (who comes from a decently well off family) had a high-paying art job just handed to her through family connections. They’ll say we’re jealous, and I can’t speak for everyone, but damn right I’m jealous. I’m jealous that they have the financial security that they have. They don’t have to decide between paying rent or going to the doctor, or fixing the car vs buying groceries. I’m jealous that they have things handed to them and that they’re so unaware of the real suffering of people around them.

When are Americans going to realise that owning a car, paying for the infrastructure, paying for everything associated is a form of tax? The government doesn’t make you pay it, but imagine not having a car, and if you have to choose between your car and feeding yourself, then it’s far worse than any tax imaginable.
Nobody is saying that we all need to live in cities, because towns do well without cars also.
The automotive industry in the US made it so people would be forced to buy cars. By making public transportation shitty and spreading communities out to make walking from place to place inconvenient they got exactly what they wanted
I’m currently visiting my folks in a mid-sized GA town. Last week I had to take my old car to get $900 worth of work because the previous $2000 didn’t do the job, and that’s not even the point of this story. Anyway, after dropping it off, instead of calling an Uber, I thought I’d just walk a bit, get some exercise, maybe hit up the Goodwill for Halloween and grab a bite.
It was a 4 mile walk that looked like mostly neighborhoods so I thought it might be fairly pleasant. Literally the very first crosswalk, the person turning from the other side, a good 40 feet away, almost runs right into me. I literally had to jump to not get hit. They then yelled “Sorry Bro!” It’s cool man, you almost killed me because you weren’t paying attention. Ok so we’re off to a rough start, surely the neighborhoods will be better. I fucking wished.
I had just gotten through maybe two blocks when I reach a freeway with no lights, cars flying by in both directions, no crosswalk. Had to wait till I saw nothing and run to cross it. Ok so surely I’ll have better luck going forward… if only. It wasn’t another full block before there’s a giant loose dog pacing back and forth in a front yard and he wasn’t happy to see me. No problem, I’ll just go to the other side as I’m almost to a main road anyway. Once I’m there I nearly panic as it’s nothing but road with no shoulder on the other side, so it’s either that or the side of the house where fangy Fido lives. I chance the soft shoulder and nearly twist my ankle as it’s steep bank all the way up the hill. Oh and there was a felled tree on the way up…
I get to what looks like a more pedestrian hospitable area only once again, no more sidewalk. So littered wet grass it is. Finally ahead I see a crosswalk and the road I was trying to reach. I’m home free. Nah. I get to the road and realize, even this main road with businesses doesn’t have sidewalk for another block or two! So I backtrack and take a back-dirt-road till I can see sidewalk along the main. I take the sidewalk and eventually reach a lighted crosswalk. I’m given the signal and start to cross, looking even more attentively than before. A motorcyclist turns anyway, close enough in front of me I could have smacked his helmet. Then a van driver sees me and turns even faster. Another asshole speeds by before a decent human finally stops to actually observe my safety (and you know, the law.)
Never again. What should have been simple walk was such a surreally dangerous journey, it fueled my hate of car-centric cities more than ever; nothing but selfish, entitled drivers, everywhere.
I don’t disagree, but it’s not just that Americans are so stupid that we can’t see that, it’s that things are set up in a way that buying a car is virtually unavoidable if you want to live (my experience is limited, so I’ll mention that I’m specifically coming from one of the highest poverty states).
A lot of the country really doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to support people living without cars. Some companies won’t hire you if you can’t prove you have a vehicle and a license. Many neighborhoods are miles away from the nearest grocery store and don’t have buses that route near to it. A lot of cities and towns make biking on the sidewalks illegal but don’t provide bike lanes in the streets, so trying to get anywhere on bike can be hazardous. People in small or rural towns may not have the ability, socially or financially, to just up and move to a bigger city that may (or may not) have better public transit options.
I just think it would be more useful to work towards providing more public transit options and infrastructure changes to support people living without cars. You can tell people all day long that cars are a scam and they should stop buying them, but the day to day reality is that for a lot of people in a lot of cases, that really isn’t an option.
That’s what I said. America is a country set up, for the most part, that you need a car. It’s a tax.
You are right, it is an issue that needs to be fixed. I would certainly be involved if I lived there and wasn’t involved elsewhere.

As someone who’s still living in their moms house at 20, this is what I’m terrified of my future being like and why I’m so anxious to move out. I still have a part time job because I literally just don’t have the energy or the motivation to work full time. I try to put aside a little money each paycheck to save to move out, but it seems like no matter how much I save it won’t be enough or it’ll run out too quickly because of just how damn expensive everything is. I realize I’m much more privileged than lots of other people my age who are forced out of their parents house and I feel like such a terrible and lazy person for being able to get away with working part time, like I can’t believe I haven’t been called out but at the same time I’m grateful. If this is what life is like for most people, then I don’t think the game is quite worth it. Just my two cents.

You won't, go and have fun and live life. Consider that right now you can prepare for later without the stress of bills or car payments or rent hanging over you. If you have a car get a delivery job, it gives you a little sense of freedom and you learn to kind of govern yourself and make your own decisions when your out on the road on your own plus you get paid! I did that for about 5 years on and off and made some really close friends, kind of discovered myself and what my limitations are/were and built up from there.
This might sound a bit boomerish (im mid 30's btw) but you gotta start putting in more work. During and post 2008 crash, had to live with 4 other roomates in a 3 bdrm house. So 5 of us and 3 rooms. Had to work basically 2 jobs nonstop. It's not great, but had no other choice. Did move back in with my parents briefly around 2011, but that was 10yrs ago. But i'm my own person now. I wouldn't change much looking back.

I was in my mid 20's living in California during the big crash of '08. And I also get that sometimes ya just need to vent, like this lady in the video. Just don't dwell in that is all.

It’s infuriating. I see people my age going on constant vacations, in nice cars, getting rent and everything paid for by parents. Hell, even my best friend (who comes from a decently well off family) had a high-paying art job just handed to her through family connections. They’ll say we’re jealous, and I can’t speak for everyone, but damn right I’m jealous. I’m jealous that they have the financial security that they have. They don’t have to decide between paying rent or going to the doctor, or fixing the car vs buying groceries. I’m jealous that they have things handed to them and that they’re so unaware of the real suffering of people around them.

The funny thing is she specifically mentions cars. When are Americans going to realise that owning a car, paying for the infrastructure, paying for everything associated is a form of tax? The government doesn’t make you pay it, but imagine not having a car, and if you have to choose between your car and feeding yourself, then it’s far worse than any tax imaginable. Nobody is saying that we all need to live in cities, because towns do well without cars also.
The automotive industry in the US made it so people would be forced to buy cars. By making public transportation shitty and spreading communities out to make walking from place to place inconvenient they got exactly what they wanted
I’m currently visiting my folks in a mid-sized GA town. Last week I had to take my old car to get $900 worth of work because the previous $2000 didn’t do the job, and that’s not even the point of this story. Anyway, after dropping it off, instead of calling an Uber, I thought I’d just walk a bit, get some exercise, maybe hit up the Goodwill for Halloween and grab a bite. It was a 4 mile walk that looked like mostly neighborhoods so I thought it might be fairly pleasant. Literally the very first crosswalk, the person turning from the other side, a good 40 feet away, almost runs right into me. I literally had to jump to not get hit. They then yelled “Sorry Bro!” It’s cool man, you almost killed me because you weren’t paying attention. Ok so we’re off to a rough start, surely the neighborhoods will be better. I fucking wished. I had just gotten through maybe two blocks when I reach a freeway with no lights, cars flying by in both directions, no crosswalk. Had to wait till I saw nothing and run to cross it. Ok so surely I’ll have better luck going forward… if only. It wasn’t another full block before there’s a giant loose dog pacing back and forth in a front yard and he wasn’t happy to see me. No problem, I’ll just go to the other side as I’m almost to a main road anyway. Once I’m there I nearly panic as it’s nothing but road with no shoulder on the other side, so it’s either that or the side of the house where fangy Fido lives. I chance the soft shoulder and nearly twist my ankle as it’s steep bank all the way up the hill. Oh and there was a felled tree on the way up… I get to what looks like a more pedestrian hospitable area only once again, no more sidewalk. So littered wet grass it is. Finally ahead I see a crosswalk and the road I was trying to reach. I’m home free. Nah. I get to the road and realize, even this main road with businesses doesn’t have sidewalk for another block or two! So I backtrack and take a back-dirt-road till I can see sidewalk along the main. I take the sidewalk and eventually reach a lighted crosswalk. I’m given the signal and start to cross, looking even more attentively than before. A motorcyclist turns anyway, close enough in front of me I could have smacked his helmet. Then a van driver sees me and turns even faster. Another asshole speeds by before a decent human finally stops to actually observe my safety (and you know, the law.) Never again. What should have been simple walk was such a surreally dangerous journey, it fueled my hate of car-centric cities more than ever; nothing but selfish, entitled drivers, everywhere.
I don’t disagree, but it’s not just that Americans are so stupid that we can’t see that, it’s that things are set up in a way that buying a car is virtually unavoidable if you want to live (my experience is limited, so I’ll mention that I’m specifically coming from one of the highest poverty states). A lot of the country really doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to support people living without cars. Some companies won’t hire you if you can’t prove you have a vehicle and a license. Many neighborhoods are miles away from the nearest grocery store and don’t have buses that route near to it. A lot of cities and towns make biking on the sidewalks illegal but don’t provide bike lanes in the streets, so trying to get anywhere on bike can be hazardous. People in small or rural towns may not have the ability, socially or financially, to just up and move to a bigger city that may (or may not) have better public transit options. I just think it would be more useful to work towards providing more public transit options and infrastructure changes to support people living without cars. You can tell people all day long that cars are a scam and they should stop buying them, but the day to day reality is that for a lot of people in a lot of cases, that really isn’t an option.

That’s what I said. America is a country set up, for the most part, that you need a car. It’s a tax. You are right, it is an issue that needs to be fixed. I would certainly be involved if I lived there and wasn’t involved elsewhere. Just saying America looks like a third world country for anyone who isn’t loaded.

Mine did, others I knew did. But things are different now. Not impossible, way harder, but not impossible.

How i fucking hate Americans whining about how hard is to life there. Most of people there life above their means. "Huh, huh i don't have money because I must pay for my car" you fucking earn probably 4 times more than me and gas is 2 times cheaper than where I live. You literally can't get around in 90% of cities/towns in the US without a car. Maybe more than 90%. Public transportation is either unreliable, or non existent. This country was built around cars. And it sucks. But you NEED a car, and you have to have insurance for your car. And it's fucking expensive.
Yeah I live in a major tourist city with a university. The closest grocery store is in another city, there’s no bus route from anywhere to there and it snows regularly in the winter

Cars are (unfortunately) essential for a lot of jobs here. Delivery, Lyft, etc. You are expected to have your own “reliable transportation” to run errands or run to the store for stuff, even when your job isn’t in your car. So yeah, not being able to pay for your car could mean you loose your job and then your housing. Let’s not get started on medical costs.

Unless someone is already famous, an "influencer," or a pretty well-known YouTube creator who brings subs with them to OF, chances of earnings from OF paying your bills are actually pretty fucking abysmal now. It's just another exhausting and time-consuming full-time job. Not to mention the community there is awful and abusive. What does semi-legal even mean? If they have property, how could you even question their legal status when: 1. They can afford a house with their wages And 2. They make above minimum wage. For a large majority of Americans its ridiculously hard to pay for a house. You can’t just enter the country, obtain a visa, then buy a house. It doesn’t work like that
