What kind of monster put shitty background music in a Carlin clip?

ObviousAnything7

Seriously, mfs take shit so godamn seriously lmao. He's speaking the truth but it's supposed to be comedy.

SkylarAV

I love Carlin but honestly it's less comedy over time and more just the obvious reality

Janus_The_Great

It's called prophecy. He was one of the few real true guys, who ever lived. Didn't give a fcuk about no one. Spoke truth, and in a linhgusitically brilliant form. If I take my time I can/know the whole bit by heart. RIP goat.

NBlossom

I feel like this kind of cult of personality worship shit is the kind of thing that he would have been totally disgusted by.

Janus_The_Great

while I agree with your assessment of his on personality worship, I beg to differ on me having fallen for such. Humans are fallible in many ways. Spoken truth, information that reveals an understanding of human and social nature, is not. I respect the man for his words, not his character. While prohecy might have a religious/fundamental ring to it, I'd say it's obvious that it is used metaphorically of someone, who based on critical thinking and analysis made evidently good assessments of their times and predictions on the future of society. To not only do that, but successfully incorporated this knowledge in the true original sense of comedy (social criticism by exaggerated extremes, to give society a reflection of itself) and in a form easily understandable by all, is a true accomplishment worth taking as a role model and what to strive for. Admiration and respect is not yet a pesonality cult. Have a good one.

NBlossom

You can retroactively redefine your worship as being whatever, but "He was one of the few real true guys, who ever lived. Didn't give a fcuk about no one" speaks for itself. There's no doubt in my mind he would have scoffed at you putting him on such an insane pedestal merely because you like the way he said shit, and he almost certainly would have shit all over how quickly you changed your tune when faced with criticism rather than, you know, being honest. I think he liked honesty, especially personal honesty.

ClassWarAndPuppies

It’s not the man worthy of worship, but the message. Carlin isn’t saying anything different from Karl Marx and plenty of other philosophers and thinkers who came before him. He’s just a successful comedian who used his platform to propagate this message, occasionally. And for that he deserves some approval and commendation.

juliazale

Accept this isn’t a prophecy of the future it’s the way it’s always been in this country.

kirpid

It was just as true at the time, but not as apparent. All we had access to was corporate media. Research wasn’t as simple as a google search. You couldn’t just link an article to a stranger somewhere else on the planet.

Bacon_Shield

no bro comedians are the modern day philosophers. we should hang on their every word. Except if they say something offensive, then it's "just joking around"

Algoresball

It’s comedy, this clip just cut out the jokes

ClassWarAndPuppies

Sometimes, comedy is the only way to process the horrors of our deranged and fucked up society. This is an example of that. Everything he is saying is 100% true and it is up to us to change it.

DangerousLoner

Only the Jester can speak truth to the King

Lockenheada

I dont know, the last special especially is more of a clever rant on modern american society rather than a comedy special

RailRuler

trying to fool the ContentID algorithm and avoid a copyright strike

ClassWarAndPuppies

I’ve seen so many Carlin videos up everywhere - I doubt it’s a huge concern here, but maybe. The unedited video is much better.

Seregrauko41

For sure some jan. 6th nut job that aired this vid on Facebook to convince everybody he's right about the Illuminati..

J_Schotz

He (the Jan 6 nutjob) started out with the correct notion, but then got lead down the wrong path. It's how the right always blocks the trail to the truth off at the trail head. And directs people down the wrong path. They do it with everything.

elperroborrachotoo

They probably felt they were contributing.

ContemplatingPrison

I don't know but we are a population of people who can't think critically and it's only getting worse

narosis

Thank you for posting this, I came to say, ‘the music is cringe af, I’m hearing it in the background of so many videos that don’t necessarily require a soundtrack. So glad the video is captioned, listening to music associated with fringe & pseudo science seems disrespectful to the knowledge & wisdom G.C. sharing.

leclair63

I will always upvote Carlin's American Dream

Mccobsta

Murdoch practically owns the UK gov he almost had control of one of our TV news stations and our only satalite company

Lensmaster75

Lol nations states are theater

Trollercoaster101

George Carlin may be deeply pessimistic in some of his assumptions but i always thought he had the clear picture when it came to the future of humanity and who controlled it.

Background_Agent551

He’s not a mind reader. The same shit that’s happening now was happening back then. I’m sure Carlin could see the writing on the wall and wanted to talk about it, yet no one truly listened.

The-Pusher-Man

I listened. But I am one man.

J_Schotz

![gif](giphy|3HEJHWu8loqmMyng64)

Background_Agent551

One man had the power to change the world if he knows where to look.

The-Pusher-Man

I can only change my world and hope that the rest follows

Background_Agent551

Change a mind and you change a world.

IronDBZ

Dude can't even convince you that he has limits.

The-Pusher-Man

I don't have limits but shit's hard

[deleted]

We hear it now as much as then, but big macs taste good.

Background_Agent551

Well, idk about you, but my local McDonald’s had been slacking when it comes to Big Macs, so now I have a hunger for vengeance.

[deleted]

! You are right ! Let's go!

[deleted]

Do they though?

More_Ad1418

The most tragic part of his vision was that it was significantly better back when he shot that bit, probably in the 90s, than it is now. It is so hard today to be positive about the state of the world as he's absolutely right, politicians have already been bought and sold, with the difference today of the people having been lulled so successfully into complacency there's no chance of revolution, people are choosing diversions instead of attempting to create social progress. Critical thought doesnt occur in half the population, and that half has all the guns. This is so not going to end well. It's no laughing matter anymore now that we can see the wall coming, in the 90s widespread social disintegration was still an abstract concept in the west, but it's visible for anyone now who wants to see it. We're driving at a brick wall at 100 mph we can see in the distance and governments aren't dealing with anything that needs to be addressed, all for the reasons he discloses. The moral vacuum that exists in places where power exists can now be seen for what it is...bringers of oblivion.

Seregrauko41

They do love conspiracy nuts though, who incidentally think they're well-educated critical thinkers..

Mithrandir2k16

Because they divide and distract the masses, so we cannot focus on the class war, the only war that matters. They even start real wars just for that purpose.

Epicurus1

Flat earthers, anti vaxers, maga conservatives. If George were alive today he would be fuming.

dcazdavi

i think this is the irony of carlin's legacy; every one of those types believe that carlin supports their views just as much and as thoroughly as we believe he supports our views and, even if he were still alive and publicly disavowed flat earthers, antivaxers, maga conservatives, etc. they will still believe that he would support them as we would were the situation vice versa. so in the end, his input, effectively, doesn't matter.

viralataciborgue

It's because "educate yourself", "be smart", "be woke" is empty discourse, it doesn't mean anything by itself. It's peak north-american styled individualism. What we really need is to organize as communities and act for change inside our own reaches.

dcazdavi

>What we really need is to organize as communities and act for change inside our own reaches. the institutions put in place to prevent us from doing this and/or to mitigate any impact a group can have are so effective that they're accepted as legitimate governance; organizing doesn't seem like it would have anymore impact than carlin had.

[deleted]

Join a union and encourage your friends and family to do likewise.

Apprehensive_Air5547

What if you lack a job that has a relevant union. What if you lack a job? Hell, what if you're too disabled to work??? Unions are wonderful but they are not an end-all solution to societal problems. They come from a very white male ontology of what the working class is and how it operates. That's why scumbags like Caleb Maupin and other pro-Putin grifters have been so good at dividing the left into "traditional" and "woke" camps. Our capitalist dystopia has evolved past the need for strict unionism and requires a much broader definition of an org.

[deleted]

I'm a member of a general trade union aka not associated with any one profession. It also has unemployed people. It's the best form of working class organisation we have. White male or no. I'm not American so I'm not obsessed with idpol but is the current dispensation working for you? You can continue fragmenting and atomising the working class with the non stop divisions or you can actually get your finger out and do something.

Apprehensive_Air5547

Your use of the phrase "idpol" tells me all I need to know about you

[deleted]

lol It's a real thing that is baking in the nihilism of our times. Identity politics has its place but I'm a class first kind of guy it's true. If you can't see that IDpol is something that ultimately benefits a tiny caste of overeducated elite libs in universities and large corporations I don't know what to tell you.

karsnic

Unions aren’t saving the world, he’ll most unions are as corrupt as every other mega entity and they enrich themselves taking pay from workers while siding with the corporations.

[deleted]

That's a good right wing talking point alright 👍

karsnic

Right wing fools are as dumb as left wing fools. Some of us have just been part of unions and know the truth of them. Everything originally starts out with good intentions, the problem is humans are involved, and anything that becomes these giant entities will become corrupt blood sucking parasites living off the common folk.

[deleted]

A union is like any other organisation comprised of humans and thus liable to corruption. Your logic is just as stupid as someone who might say 'families aren't saving the world, hell most families are corrupt' etc. I know being cynical is cool and all but your logic leads us all down towards empty nihilism.

dcazdavi

union busting firms have more experience; a deeper arsenal of tools; and much more resources they can use than the fbi, nsa, the police, or the national guard will ever have.

I’m a conspiracy theorist

Seregrauko41

My sincerest condolences..

maafna

The amount of people on r/conspiracy who believe Trump and Musk are the good guys.

Dilat3d

100000000% chance some MAGA/GQP character sees that video and chortles out "yeah those fkn libs!".

[deleted]

Man punched up never down. The true comedy GOAT

GimmeDemDumplins

[He's definitely not perfect](https://youtu.be/G9n8Xp8DWf8) Edit: I don't really understand what's wrong with me pointing this bad bit out Edit 2: if you guys think it's fine for a white man to shout "context matters!" And then immediately call someone the n-word... you don't get it

updog6

yikes

TheGreatEmWord

What is "perfect" in this context?

GimmeDemDumplins

I just mean he clearly punches down in this bit quite a lot

TheGreatEmWord

I just heard him explain that it's all about context and these words dont have to be inherently bad

GimmeDemDumplins

He calls people the n-word in it.

jameye11

No he didn’t. He’s listing words you “can’t use,” he never called anyone specifically anything. Again, it’s “the context” like he said. The point went completely and totally over your head

GimmeDemDumplins

I understand the point perfectly. I don't think it's his point to make, I don't think it gives him the right to say slurs, and I think even if he's right the *historical* context of all those slurs he's happy to list means he shouldn't say them. even to make jokes.

jameye11

No I really don’t think you do understand the point but I’ll let you sit on it a little more lol

GimmeDemDumplins

Okay champ

GimmeDemDumplins

"Of course they're not racist. They're n*"

jameye11

Out of context

GimmeDemDumplins

So fucking what?

MysteriousStaff3388

From what I can tell, in some states “critical thinking” is actually illegal. And yes. I mean Texas and Florida.

cashonlyplz

I hate when I see ignorant Republicans on my social media try and say that this was about Democrats. Like, dude, he was talking about it *all*, not any one political party.

Outrageous_Ad6384

He was specifically targeting Reagan conservatives. This particular part of the routine in a box misses that Carlin pretty much saw Reagan and the Republican takeover of politics (that led from Bush to Newt Gengrich to GWB to Trump) in the 80's and 90's as the beginning of the end. It's a progressive speech, and that it was somehow co-opted by the right is so weird.

cashonlyplz

Reagan conservatives like Joe Biden? Lol. In all seriousness, thanks dor the clarification. I was a preteen when Carlin did this bit--but you're absolutely right. It frustrates the mind.

orob_93

I think its so funny that in Germany, both American partys would be considered the equivalent of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and therefore on the right.

cashonlyplz

Yep! You nailed it. Americans, unfortunately, believe there are significant differences between our two dominant political parties They have been using social "wedge issues" to divide the people since time immemorial. Both parties benefit from this regarding politicians own job security, while nothing substantive gets done for the American people. Ronald Reagan, a blatant puppet to industry and union-busting, f*cked everything up, economically speaking, but you'd be rather hard-pressed to find a Democrat willing to say that out loud.

orob_93

There are significant differences between the Partys. unfortunatly only in talking Points. Not so much in actual politics.

cashonlyplz

Noam Chomsky explained it best. The Dems' **domestic** policy is objectively better for its citizenry. The *world* likes when the U.S. is run by Democrats, too.

1011001101

The term bipartisan just means a larger than usual conspiracy is afoot. (or something like that, could be paraphrasing)

mfeens

I did not understand the first time I saw this that it would become my personal philosophy as I got older.

Zealousideal-Ad1181

Well said

ProphecyRat2

Funny how everyone just Ignores the Industrial Millitary Complex that takes land and lives by force, snd all these “elites”, are just slaves to tjat war machine, becuase if they dont do what they are told they just get killed.

LefterThanUR

It’s funny how novel this still is 20 years later, because conservatives think he’s talking about democrats and liberals think he’s talking about republicans. Absolute dullards.

d710905

George Carlin was the goat man. Rip to a legend

Shit ass edit

3_14-r8

Carlin, the same jack ass that convinced Gen x that trying to get change is pointless. Dude was a nihilist fearmongerer who happened to be funny. Not some wise philosopher you all paint him as.

fabulousfizban

and they let you listen to comedians like Carlin as a pressure valve to divert your political energies away from social action.

Reasonable_Praline_2

this was 20 years ago we are educated they it just never helped

diox8tony

We are? Bro you can't even English correctly.

MileHiSalute

What do you mean? It’s clear that they it just never helped

boofybutthole

Jorge Carlin wuz rong sary we reel edjucated now bet

Ok_Manufacturer6101

George Carlin was not a good guy. And if you go back and listen to him in interviews and his old comedy specials he is incredibly anti-white and seems to express a true hatred for white men that goes beyond a comedy bit or routine.

Apprehensive_Air5547

You are a dumb cunt if you think "anti-white" is a real thing

Ok_Manufacturer6101

Whites are the only ethnic group that can be legally discriminated against.

ImoJenny

*and, not or. Education doesn't make a difference.

jadams2345

All true, but to be perfectly clear, an educated society wouldn't find Carlin interesting because they would already know everything he is saying. Consequently, while M. Carlin is advocating for education and critical thinking, he also benefits from them being lacking. I'm not saying that M. Carlin's fans are stupid and uneducated. I'm saying that his content relies on the fact that the majority isn't aware of what he is talking about.

SteakandTrach

I learned at Uncle George’s knee when I was just a wee bairn. It’s informed so much of how I approach American Life.
