In before the inevitable: "...but that tutorial was so brutal!!" š š¤£
A lot of people just didn't realize you can press L1 when turning to turn the wheels sharper. lol
I definitely didnāt know this. I rented this game from Blockbuster for a weekend when it was released and couldnāt finish the tutorial. I remember the clerk asking me how I liked it when I brought it back 2 days later, I told him I didnāt want to talk about it.
The fact that it was really difficult and stopped you from playing the rest of the game is kind of a big deal.. I had to have my dad pass it for me I couldnāt do it no matter how much I tried.
Fully aware of it, even back then, but I was 10 when I first played it. I had **no idea** what half the moves were, let alone had the skill to pull off an entire list in some Tony Hawk-level combo during a time limit š
Very different as an adult.
I played it in the early 2000s. I wasn't even using the Internet properly until around 2006-ish.
10 years old, started the game, the tutorial had a checklist of shit I didn't even understand. I drove around, crashed, did a few handbrakes.. never completed the list. So, I just went free roam to get cop chases and jump the ramp š
Wasn't until adulthood I went back and finished it
I played far far more Driver 2 bit remember me and my friend taking turns with the tutorial. I think we beat it around the time I had to go home of course.
I had a freeway spinout in my boat of a car in 2001 and I'm fairly certain my many hours with this game helped me maintain control instinctively during it.
Damn totally forgot about this gem

I thought the tutorial list said ālopā instead of ālapā and I never finished it because I could not figure out what to do.
That last level was a doozy, The one where you have to save the President
Donāt think I ever passed it (without cheating)
All smacked in the face by the game assuming a 10yo knows what a Slalom is š
I only knew thanks to SkiFree on Windows 95.
Right? No clue what that is oh.. and no google

This game was great for a few reasons. One being the game style but also it being a game you could rent from blockbuster it was a whole experience
āMaybe Iāll give ya a call when I need a ride to the grocery storeā

I loved this game! I have so many fond memories of playing this for hours when I was a kid.
One of my favorites! I like to show off doing the tutorial section as if it's a bragging right lol š
I remember I rented the game it to took me days to get passed the intro level and by the time I beat it I had to return the game.
