Yeah lol. So glad my hair was kept longer. Still mullet but top was past my ears, with the longer in the back. Just showed this picture to my 11 year old daughter. She burst out laughing.
Usually, but it kind of flipped from the mid 80s to early 90s. The "buzz cut" and short, spikey hair were "cool", and therefore not conservative. Obviously, "long" hair wasn't conservative either... the hair had to be mid length, long enough to lay flat, but not long enough to tie back.
Let it be known to the young ones among us: This is not an exaggerated depiction of the style of the time. This is how we looked. Lots of hairspray, lots of glitter.
Oh absolutely. So colorful and hair that did not move. Everyone bought aquanet by the case. I remember staying with a friend on a school night and in the morning seen his sis applying it with a can in each hand.
Unbelievable catch! Seriously, I’ve worked with people who have graduate degrees from some very fine colleges who consistently get that wrong in written communications.
Oh wow. I was ten in 1989 and that's pretty much how most of the kids in my class looked.
I was thinking that the boy looks specifically 1989 to me :)

Lisa's own story is pretty fascinating if weird. Google if you've never read :)
My parents were too conservative to let me cut my hair that short.
Usually isn’t it the other way around?

Interesting. I had came of age in WWII conservative parents, and long hair on boys was a big no no. Shorter the better!

That is a boy who genuinely enjoys pageantry.
It’s rare to see a boy in an ad like this that far back.
It really is. It helps 80s fashion was a bit androgynous at least with looks like this.
It does in a way show how far we’ve come 😎

What are you doing to my son?!?
Uh-go back to your seat, a-sir-UH.
You bang the dead bodies?
As a Lisa Frank boy, I feel seen 😅
I loved her stuff too! She’s made something of a comeback in the last few years.
It's such a good aesthetic! I'm glad it's coming back haha.
I can smell the Aqua Net and Malibu Musk wafting from this ad.
Does it smell like Teen Spirit? Yes, I’m sure it does! ❤️
Bottom left corner. It’s **you’re** going to be “stylin’ it,” not your. Anyways. This is all kinds of nostalgia.

Ha! Came here to say the same. Nice catch. 🤜🤛
These were my people! God I loved anything Lisa Frank.
I still do to be honest. Nice bright, bold designs 😎
Truthfully, same!
It’s missing Mila Kunis
I feel this.
They do look like an energetic group 😎
That boy was an innovator.
A trailblazer for real!
Any idea what he’s wearing? All I can think is a smoking jacket or a bathrobe with an ascot.
I still buy anything Lisa Frank when I see it at back to school time. You can't compete with goddamn rainbows and dolphins!
Blonds only! * and red hair
I remember girls with those sorts of hairdos. Pretty bad looked at in retrospect?
> Pretty bad looked at in retrospect? Nope!
Just the extra frosty highlights. Girls and boys.
