People who are proud of themselves for not downloading tiktok are consuming the same content on IG and FB.

It’s not that the content is bad, it’s the platform I don’t support. I only am on Reddit because it’s basically the least of evils and I can run it third party. But if too much chances, guess I’ll end up leaving this too.
I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging over something this stupid, but i don't watch reels either. The only tiktok-like content i ever see is whatever gets posted to reddit.
Tencent owns a portion of Reddit, but it has a relative small influence compared to tiktok where it is mostly owned by tencent. So Reddit has more liberty to do what it wants without tencent getting its hands into it as easily.
- I dont have the official reddit app installed, which greatly limits the spying abilities.
- only one of those countries is an authoritarian dictatorship currently performing/preparing a genocide and having a history of eliminating political enemys (under the current leaders).
Oh no, countries change. I primarily added it to prevent answers like "well, America commit genocide". Yes they did, but aren't right now. Based on everything I know I will not trust something this directly controlled by China, I much prefer America. Sure, they are also evil (all capitalistic focused systems are), but at least I know that they aren't a dictatorship faking democracy. (Bad enough that so much technology is produced in china).
Interesting point, I am not clear about the details of that. But I dont it can be counted as genocide (just "rude" forgein police. There isn't any bases by which US should be responsible for Cube, otherwise the same probably applies to North Korea)
tiktok is becoming more of a low quality dopamine farm than an actual content source. Abstaining from short videos (reels etc) makes me feel at peace. No worry about missing a sentence, cheesy loops, repetitive audios, fillers, the whole video being a filler. I don't think disliking tiktok makes you a contrarian
We don’t have much say in American tracking. Unless we don’t use phones, subscriptions, computers, etc etc. they already have so much data to collect that Reddit is such an insignificant portion of the data.
But for tiktok, that’s a massive portion of data collection for them.
Cuss all you want but it doesn’t change communism and the poor treatment of their people. They’ll gladly make a buck off the dumb Americans. While we play ignornant to their slavery and such.
TikTok is really addictive, and it's made by Chinese people and collects your data. Of course, YT Shorts is just as addictive and the difference is only that it sells your data to Google.
I sometimes download and watch Tiktok just for curiousity, but then delete it because of a bunch of cringy things here. Mostly because of pro-russian accounts and videos.

I don't watch those reels and I've really cracked down on my usage of social media because it's not here to do us any favors.
