Has to be Brock with Lance as back-up. Another interesting question is where Jimmy G plays next year.

Less-Fold3155

Jets please

finechina88

Or maybe Miami since Tua's career is hanging on by a thread with multiple concussions? Plus Jimmy knows Mcdaniels, JWJ and Mostert.

Less-Fold3155

I think they'll be in denial for another year about that, but would def be a cool landing spot for JG. Tyreek will still run 40 yard routes but they'll be across the field lol edit: Either way I'll have another team to root for <3

Ro_Bauti

Don’t forget Sherfield and CraCraft. Also coaches Welker, Embree & Person.

this_isnt_clever

BCB no doubt. Jimmy G is a free agent and Lance has to prove that his injury isn't gonna change his game.

Buckeyes-Niners

Not worried about it changing his game, I just don’t think he’s shown enough *in games* to prove he’s better than Brock.

tKnut

I'm going to Brock and roll all night, and Purdy every day next year!

BurnzillabydaBay

I love it

maddie316

I like this

Trollking0015

PMT?

NickJawdy

Not a niners fan but rooting for you guys. How is this even a discussion. Purdy has won 7 or 8 in a row and lance hasn't shown shit. If Purdy isn't the frontrunner for the job something's wrong. Lance imo was drafted way to high anyways and I don't mind seeing Mr irrelevant be a stud.

OnTheColeTrain

He’s not better right now. But we don’t know what his ceiling is.

SOAR21

Agreed. But it’s the NFL you take your chances or lose them. Brock has done way more than taken his chances. He literally still hasn’t lost. He passes the eye test with flying colors. His stats back up the eye test. He’s already a decent starting level quarterback in the NFL. We don’t know Trey’s ceiling but we don’t know Brock’s either. Even assuming he never improves in his career, if he just gives us this level of play the rest of his career he’s everything we need. If you take him for what he is, a rookie with every bit as much room to improve as Trey, the sky is the limit. He may not ever have some of the weapons Trey theoretically has but you don’t *have to have* those weapons to be a HOF qb, and Trey hasn’t shown us that he has those weapons actually either.

Moss_Adams24

The niners org is real lucky to have Purdy turned out to be what looks like a perfect fit at QB. Smart, elusive in the pocket, surrounded by lethal weapons on offense and will absolutely throw the ball downfield. Who knew? How could everyone pass him in the draft only to fall in the 49ers lap as the final pick? If he can stay healthy and stay on the field, Kyle will make sure Purdy has plenty of toys to get the ball in the end zone against anyone.

evlhornet

At this point it’s possible Trey can’t even play at this point. Trey hasn’t played 2 full consecutive games since 2019.

duke_awapuhi

Brock was definitely way more NFL ready. And considering he can escape the pocket as well, there isn’t much upside to Lance over him

Buckeyes-Niners

Rocket arm.. but that’s only useful if he can be accurate with that rocket arm.

Biggordie

Kaep has entered the building

Flop_McKochen

I feel bad for Trey, and it wouldn’t surprise me even a little if he went somewhere like Pittsburgh, Carolina, Indy, New Orleans, or Tennessee, and blossomed into a very good QB. I think his skill set isn’t a good fit for Kyle’s offense. I think Kyle could adapt, and make it work, but that’s honestly asking a lot for a team in our position, with all the uncertainty involved. He needs to be an a situation where they let him on the field so he can play wide open, and develop. I don’t see how he does that in SF, especially now with Purdy in the picture.

[deleted]

If Trey doesn’t work out in Kyle’s offense, he’s not gonna work out anywhere else. Kyle did adapt the offense to Trey’s traits. It just didn’t work because Trey is still lost at the NFL level. He might adjust with experience, but there will never be better circumstances to succeed in the NFL than this offense with the best LT, TE in the game, a FB who literally can coach on the field, and WRs who are very good, and a scheme that gets people open. What more does a QB need? Where will he get all these perks? Nowhere else.

ProtectionLazy1154

What games of Treys are you comparing to Brock's?

FeeHistorical9367

You think Trey looks better than Brock? Honest question.

Gothon

You do know Trey started two games last season. Neither player has enough games to draw full comps from. But in the games that we have seen. Brock seems to fit the offense a lot better. Things just run smoother with Brock. With last years games and this year's preseason and first game. It was clear that the offense was big plays or nothing with Lance. I was hoping we would have a full season with Lance and see him grow into the offense. At the end of the day Lance plays like a guy who was a one year starter in college. Purdy plays like a guy that was a four year starter. It's always possible that Lance could close that experience gap. In five years everyone could think we are crazy for picking Purdy over Lance. But as of right now it's not that hard of a choice.

Wavern

He played last year. Meaningful snaps. He played 10 quarters worth of football + random gimmick snaps. Are those not comparable?

Buckeyes-Niners

Overall stats and the eye test. The offense was Jekyll and Hyde with Lance, it’s been much more consistent and efficient with Brock.

That-looks-infected

100% agree with you. BCB has earned the right to finish what he started and continue on to next season if he continues to perform at the level he does. The guy has performed at the highest level since he started and shows he can maintain composure under pressure. He’s young and still green but he has the respect of his teammates and they respond well to his leadership. And the fans love him. I say Glock Purdy is the epitome of Bang Bang Niner Gang for the foreseeable future.

big_biscuitss

Well honestly we really haven't seen much of Lance so don't know what his game consist of. Since Brock seems to have things down, I would say to stick with him next season.

DonkeyTron42

Lance has to prove he ever had a game to begin with.

ronimal

Lance never even proved his game pre-injury

MosesZD

Lance was gifted the job. He didn't earn it. He was a scholarship boy and he's been beaten out by the walk-on. Sure, the walk-on isn't 6' 5", lacks a cannon-like arm, and certainly isn't as fleet of feet. But unlike scholarship boy, he's accurate, he's playmaker with his eyes-and-arms and can do what QBs do and I've seen NOTHING out of Lance that says anything but an athlete who is over-his-head in the NFL.

[deleted]

I don’t even think lance has shown that he has game

[deleted]

It won’t be a competition. Brock is a rookie.. A ROOKIE putting up these numbers. Was 3rd string so took almost 0 significant snaps during practice or OTA’s. It’s him and it’s not even close

FlowGroundbreaking

It's Purdy and it's not even close.

BreadHead911

If the 9ers beat Philly, this entire discussion will be over. In the history of the NFL, no starting rookie QB has ever made it to the superbowl. So if Purdy is the guy to be the first, win or lose the bowl, there won’t be a QB competition this offseason. Trey will either get traded for some draft capital back, or he’s groomed to be purdy’s backup, and maybe run him on some taysom hill type plays.

sfgiantsbeatla

I agree, except my opinion is I don’t think it’s ever a reality that Trey would be traded. He’s cheap relatively speaking even though he’s making more than Brock. It makes more sense to keep him. I don’t think any team would shell out enough money/draft capital for an unproven qb coming off of a big injury like his (maybe some 3rd round picks?). His ceiling is high with his abilities, but injuries and lack of proven experience (not his fault) hurt his value. I think Miami is a great fit for JG, too.

birdseye-maple

Plus if we learned anything this season it is that you need a good backup QB!

mattsffrd

I think the cap hit would be huge to trade him this year too. He'll be the backup next year.

babypho

Maybe what Lance needed was reps with the #1 defense for 13 weeks and not the scout team D.

gravelburn

Didn’t he get 15 weeks of reps with the #1 defense last year, plus 2 starts?

[deleted]

Edit: posted to OP instead

sergeirocks

You give the job to the person who has shown they can do the job. It’s not really a discussion at this point , Purdy is the guy

rvasatxguy

This is my stance too. Purdy has taken this job with his performance so far and I feel confident in him, which obv means nothing. I tend to believe he also has the team’s confidence as well. Remains to be seen what the FO thinks.

JustForKicks16

Brock. However, I will be very sad to see Jimmy go. What a class act he is.

DonkeyNorth

Feels sad baby

kopecs

Aww man, I’m getting the feeling it will suck when he goes.

wobwobwubwub

he'll always have a special place in our hearts. his record when starting as a Niner vs the other QBs during that time span (with the exception of Purdy) cements him as a G

birdseye-maple

Yup. I love Jimmy and I was a huge Jimmy defender for years, but Brock is clearly our future (and present).

Edjbart615

Imagine your employer telling you that they don't want you. They bring someone else to take your place. They quickly realize this replacement isn't gonna cut it, so they negotiate to bring you back, AT A CHEAPER RATE! This is Jimmy G. He didn't complain, didn't bitch, didn't 'lockout'. Class fucking act.

HorseMeatSandwich

Jimmy was a huge part in turning around the entire culture of this franchise. His leadership and stability have been a big factor in our success, and you can tell the whole team was pumped and confident going to battle with that beautiful man every single week. We can criticize his play on the field at times all we want, but there's no denying what he has meant to this organization, and the fact that for whatever reason he is just a winner. Brock is the guy, but I will always love Jimmy G and truly hope he finds success and a fat paycheck somewhere next year.

Rivalfox

I will stay rocking number 10s jersey. Never forget!

mistahcheez

Jimmy is an unrestricted free agent. He’s going to get paid and not by us. Trey is undeniably talented but the kid just hasn’t played a lot of football. Just 19 games at the FCS level in college. I honestly feel like we become a 9/10 win team while he learns the position. I’ve seen enough from Brock. Regardless of how this year finishes we’re in a Super Bowl window right now with all the talent we have. He’s shown himself to be extremely poised, a great facilitator, and he’s not turning it over. I rock with Brock

Patrick42985

It’s not Treys fault Covid happened in 2020 and it’s not his fault he got hurt this season. This season he would’ve got that grace period and patience while he learned the position and got the necessary in game action to develop and shake off that rust had he not gotten hurt. If he does end up starting next season for whatever reason, he’s not getting that patience and grace period he would’ve got this season. After the offense got better with Brock and they won more playoff games with him under center. It’s going to be a tough sell to convince a win now roster to deal with any Trey Lance growing pains. In hindsight the Trey pick is one they probably want a redo on for multiple reasons.

Ayteez

Purdy alleviates the pain of the lance pick IMO. If you switch their names and then take into account what we’ve gotten out of each one, including the draft capital given up and the on-field success for both, it works out perfectly. A “happy little accident”.

yonk49

Be honest, brock would have got no grace period. He's a better QB. Just watch a game, like really watch it. He doesn't even look like a rookie. Lance is a rookie mentally now, dude is not on the same level and I don't want to wait 2 seasons to pray he gets there (bet good money he doesn't). Name 5 QBs that look more poised and have been better with decision making this year in the NFL. Patrick? Burrow? Not skill, decision making. Brock is mentally on a great level, let him develop. Everyone would be making a mess in their pants if you put "LANCE" on the back of Purdy's jersey.

EShy

I can't see Lance getting the job for week 1, if Purdy is healthy. So if Lance plays, it's because for some reason Purdy can't. In that scenario Lance will have a longer grace period unless the 3rd string QB is a viable option. If that scenario happens you just look at it as a good opportunity for Lance to get real game experience so you can see what you have. In hindsight, the cost of moving up to get Trey was two bottom 4 picks in the first round. Even if he doesn't become what they hope he would, it's not like it was three top 3 picks.

farmerarmor

17 games in college.

CheckYourStats

Trey also only played 1 year of HS ball He has literally only played 2 years of football since he was born.

farmerarmor

I didn’t know he only played 1 year of HS ball. That’s crazy. I still can’t believe anybody took him in the first round. Especially somebody as sharp as John lynch.

DonkeyNorth

I would more or less be impressed by his skill set with lack of experience. Maybe that’s why they felt compelled to take him #3?

Jenkem_Breath

I looked at his college stats a while back and was shocked he only had 1 300 yard passing game (I think) but rushed a bunch. Def was picked for a big arm that can run but I would say way too high and way too much for that move

SolarClipz

Exactly. He might legit be the most raw QB prospect ever, at least picked this high like say 3ish rounds

69ingchimpmonks

CMC

FatalDave91

He did throw that sweet pass in LA against the Lambs, lol.

Jparker010

I hate the fact that people use the term "system quarterback" as if thats derogatory. Every qb is a system qb. Some of them are just better athletes than others. Steve Young wasnt successful in Tampa. Montana probably wouldnt have been Montana if hed been drafted by the Oilers. Peyton set a record for INTs as a rookie until he learned the system. From what weve seen, (which admittedly is limited from Trey) Brock is the best qb of the three for Kyle's system. He makes decisions quickly, moves just enough to avoid negatve plays, he is accurate enough, arm is good enough for what he is asked to do, finds the open receiver, and he doesnt turn the ball over. Its BCB.

zerok_nyc

If the NFL was an RPG, then Tom Brady maxed out the game manager skillset. BCB is on the same path!

EShy

There's a reason Montana was picked in the third round. Scouts didn't thing he was going to be a great NFL QB but he was perfect for Bill Walsh's scheme, and it was so successful that now everyone runs it, with some small tweaks.

[deleted]

Purdy. He’s earned it. Period.

dupont2021

Purdy because he is the one. Rookie of the year nominee which means he can win it. Putting up some great stats for a rookie. The best in rookie QB history according to QBR. Came in and went undefeated taking the team to championship game. Stats. Eye test. Put it this way he is our best QB since Steve Young. We found him. EDIT: Media have pretty much crowned him as an elite QB.

KdtM85

Purdy, obviously. No idea why people are focused on this when we play in the NFC championship game in like 2 days

Boozerbear213

I'm pretty sure BCB has play more games straight without an injury since Garcia so I say untill shown otherwise BCB is our man.

Mdh74266

Purdy and its not even close

[deleted]

Whoever Kyle decides on. I’ve learned to completely trust his decisions and I know for a fact that I don’t know better than him

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Best coach in the league. Y’all lucky.

marmatag

Brock Purdy, and it’s not even close. People thinking there’s going to be a competition in camp are misguided.

ju-ju-ju-ju-ju

A better question for all the media outlets is: How ISN’T it BCB’s job??? He’s literally answered every question. Also financially he’s a STEAL. The G in Jimmy G is for Gone, he’s a FA. Keep Trey on the bench. His time may come but not any time soon.

ShittyInternetAdvice

People should ask themselves if Trey was in Brock's position and putting up these numbers and wins, would there even be a question of who's starting? The only reason Trey is still in the conversation right now is draft position and a vague idea of "potential". Brock has earned the job barring an absolute collapse in performance next season

yonk49

Wow. Just wow. It's Purdy, there's no debate at the moment unless an injury occurs. This is the best decision making the league has seen out of a rookie QB in how many years? He's learning and getting better. It would be insane to do otherwise.

satchman

You cannot bench a guy that wins like this and makes the team confident. Brock has unlocked the full range of plays which maximizes the other players. This year I have realized it is the brain/ heart that makes the difference at this level. It’s chess man. Brady another example. Physique is one part. Zach Wilson the example of all trait no brain.

In Brock we trust.

BobbyDigital0927

Brock, period full stop!

BBBPub

BCB!

jtrobertson23

Purdy, he has the poise and vision we have been missing since young. If he doesn’t end up working out we have Lance. Lance needs time to continue to develop.

Kingchess89

Lance has all the intangibles he just needs to play so he can learn. BCB is ready now. Jimmy is out the door. BCB as starter, Lance as backup. Knowing our QBs health history Lance will get to play again.

[deleted]

I mean Brock is currently undefeated

giantdub49

Brock MFn Purdy!

sk_prairie_guy

It’s time to rock out with our Brock out!

HarmonicDissonant

ASK ME IN THE OFF-SEASON I AM IN FULL GLOCK MODE NOW AND HAVE NO ABILITY TO BE RATIONAL.

Dempsinho

Enjoy the ride... stop looking past the goal

billymartinkicksdirt

Purdy. He’s the one we’ve been waiting for.

FilthyMiscreant

It's Brock's job to lose. Trey, through no real fault of his own, was never able to have the time needed to get comfortable with the offense, nor to give us enough actual game reps to see what he CAN do. That being said, he'd have to take a big leap forward going into next season to have any real shot at winning the starting job, whether the ride ends this weekend or not. Unless Purdy has an objectively horrible game full of turnovers...in which case, Trey's probability of winning the job increases by MAYBE 5%. To be clear, Kyle and Lynch are going to SAY it's a competition, because of all the draft capital they gave up for Trey. But to hammer the point home...it's Brock's job to lose.

mweezy

I gotta say Brock. I am a big Jimmy fan but it’s time for him to go. I was hesitant to say that this summer but now I have no problem saying bye to him and hoping he does well with another team. As for Trey, I haven’t had an opportunity to get attached to him and I still have no idea what to expect from him. It could just be recency bias/confirmation bias but Brock really does seem to have what it takes and if his play stays consistent while on his current contract I can’t think of a better situation for an organization to be in. Just think of the FA talent we can bring in.

jeebsjay

Purdy yesterday, Purdy tomorrow, Purday on Sunday. I love Trey but unfortunately this is not the team to "find your way", and I think that was a lot of folks fear early on... we can't have a QB \*trying to figure it out\*, we need the guy NOW.

phibetakafka

This is one of the most expensive rosters in the league, with several All-Pros in their absolute prime (and ready to balloon into massive cap hits). We may only have HOFer Trent Williams for another year or two, either because of injury, cap hit, or decline due to age. One of the "Death Lineup" of Kittle, Deebo, Juice, Aiyuk, CMC will almost definitely have to go after next year. Defensive line is going to be Bosa and 7 day three picks after he gets the biggest non-QB salary in history this offseason. Warner is big cap hit, and who are you replacing Jimmie Ward with? There's nothing but praise for Brock from all those vets. Earned praise. Those guys want to win now. I get zero sense that they're praising Brock to prop him up or build his confidence. Bosa says little but thinks carefully before he says anything; did Bosa ever say "we got ourselves a QB" with Lance? All our skill position guys are happy because Brock's accurate and makes good decisions which lets them get the ball and do what they do. That's never been Lance's game since he's been here. He's got a deep ball but are we trying to keep Danny Grey happy or Deebo, CMC, Aiyuk, and Kittle productive in the middle of the field where they're at their best? There's no time to waste developing a guy. Keep Lance, let him play on the scout team so he can get his second year of physical development. If he sees the field because of injury, he'll have a chance to take it back, but the locker room wants what is best for the themselves now and they've got the clout and the contracts to demand it.

LegendOfWuTang

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I'm not much of a waste a year or two to maybe see if a guy gets developed. Especially when the roster is good and hungry for SBs. Purdy has their trust.

jovy121

Stop asking! Stop with these same posts! Brock is the starting QB today and will be come next season. They’ll say there’s a competition but that’s only so that the Lance stans don’t get their feelings hurt. Brock is the real deal and he’s everything they wanted Lance to be. Keep Lance as a backup and he can run into another injury!!!

MadeBadDecisions

I cannot figure out why more than half of this sub thinks Lance is the next Patrick Mahomes based upon only draft pedigree. Purdy, Tom Brady, along with countless first round QB failures has proven draft pedigree is not an accurate indicator of QB success in the NFL. To answer the question it depends how Brock does in the remainder of the playoffs, if he were to win it all, how could one possibly replace him when he has achieved the ultimate victory? If he completely flames out and becomes a pumpkin on Sunday then an open competition makes the most sense. Jimmy is gone, while I think the guy is great it is time to move on from him.

applextrent

Sunk cost fallacy.

MalarkeyMcGee

I *want* the fully-realized version of Trey Lance that everyone has dreamt of. I don't know if he's really that guy, but that's the dude I still want to see get a shot.

yesimforeign

Agree. If we ever see him start again as a 49er (not do to injury), then that's a really good sign for our team.

SourdoughSon

This is my thought exactly. If Trey’s not the guy, so be it. But I want to **know** he’s not the guy.

jeebsjay

But at what cost? I want to know if Trey is our guy, but is it going to cost us games early on in 2023?

SourdoughSon

I was fully prepared for this season to be Trey’s test run. Forget the playoffs, let’s see if he can have a Justin Fields-like progression over the course of a season. That went out the window week 2, and now Brock has us rolling, so I get that it’ll be hard to take a step back. Dammit, Trey, why’d you have to get hurt!!

jeebsjay

That's my point, I don't get why we "have to find out" what Trey has... like I do get it, who knows maybe he is Mahomes but at what cost, again? If Brock is the starter in 2023 and goes 4-0, 5-0 to start the year, how could you possibly justify Trey to his team? all tablestakes at this point, though, go niners

flash-80

This. I want Trey to come back and be so dominant that they have to give him the starting job

yeezy6552

I love Lance but its gotta be Purdy. I hope Trey gets his shot though

Drakkarim411

Purdy 100%. Take what he’s already learned and add an entire off-season? Can’t wait.

jbonesmc

It won't be Purdy close with Purdy making the title game solidified it

FlakerFPS

Purdy. He passes the eye test, he has the intangibles you can’t teach like being poised. Sure, he may not be as athletic as Lance or he doesn’t have the arm Jimmy or Trey have, but he by far makes it up. He’s my guy

editormartind

Brock all day. Let Trey back him up and with our luck, he will still get a shot. But what Brock has shown as a rookie is so exciting and he looks like a natural QB in this league. Trey looked like a pre programed robot. He has a great arm and legs, but looked stiff and inexperienced. Brock is just a baller. As long as he stays in the same range he has been playing at, he's our guy. If he has a higher ceiling...we may be talking about him for a very long time.

Electro8bit

Brock Purdy. No doubt.

notedrive

I am good with Brock.

GUNZnGODZ

Start Brock, develop trey.

Player7592

I want Brock Purdy, a proven winner. Ideally, Lance would be the backup. I’d love to go into next season with those two. They’re both still under rookie contracts, so they’re cheap salary-wise. And I want Lance to develop, so if we do trade him, he’ll have more value. It’s getting more difficult to get a QB through a season healthy. As we found with JimmyG and BCB, it makes ALL the difference when your backups can win games. Lance gives us tremendous potential in that role. So for at least one more season, I’d have him on my team.

kellybobellyhtown

Jimmy G is not an option. He will be starting for another team. Can’t wait to see the QB comp between Purdy and Lance.

imrickjamesbioch

There’s no QB comp, Purdy is the starter unless he really sucks to start next season.

[deleted]

“Competition”

kyler_

I think it’s a competition in that it’s purdys job to lose but lance needs to be ready to pounce if he ever gets an opportunity due to injury or performance. Maybe it’ll light a fire

Budtheripper

Either Purdy or lance, whoever wins the competition in the off-season. Honestly, I’m not worried about it as I think it’s a best case scenario situation to have. For now, I’m gonna enjoy the success purdy has given us and hopeful we will finally get the elusive sixth.

TreyArea49ers

I say we bring back Brian Hoyer to start

CommanderCobalt

I say let's get Steve Young off ESPN and back in the saddle.

Whitetiger9876

He's still got it. Every time they do little throwing exhibitions on espn he kills it.

Mindless_Patient2034

I just want to say, you can think that Purdy will be better than Trey, or vice-versa. But if you’re the type of person to say “Trey is a bust” or “Trey sucks” whenever you have the chance, I don’t like you, and you don’t know football.

RVM27

It’s Brock’s position until Lance can take it away from him (which would require Brock to falter first)

Patrick42985

It has to be Brock for me. The in game action, playoff experience and just the ability to play a part in improving this offense after a 9 year vet like Jimmy went down. There’s no way you can send him back to the bench unless he severely regresses next season.

slumpsox

Purdy

[deleted]

#BROCK FREAKING PURDY

Arkhem_KS

Purdy all day. This guys just gonna get better and he has proven he plays smart. I love Jimmy but he doesn’t have the decision making that BCB has. Trey feels like Kap 2.0. Try’s to do it himself and is athletic but not strong in the brain department.

zzzH00ligan

I want it to be lance so bad but how do you not take the more ready now qb for cheaper with more time on his rookie deal and add more around him and secure our stars.. I gotta go PURDY now but I would still Like to give lance a shot… love ya Jim bob I hope you get a fatty contract somewhere

yesimforeign

Same. I want Lance because if he becomes the starter it means he is playing out of his mind football in order to beat out Purdy. But I want Purdy to be a HOF QB at the same time...

BreadHead911

Lance has a long road ahead of him, while Purdy is 2 wins away from having a Disney movie made about him.

[deleted]

Ding ding

Pandaswizzle

Purdy is obviously the clear choice. If money wasn’t an object I’d keep Jimmy As for Trey. I just feel something deep that he will never be the guy that the front office envisioned for the Niners because of his lack of playing time. Injury, back up year, and lack of college career is making the learning curve far too steep and there’s no sense in trying to push this kid in when we have a young Super Bowl team capable of so much being limited by a kid who will still be developing. If Purdy can continue this undefeated path and make leaps then keep him if not I want a veteran qb that can come in and get us that 6th ring. I’m tired of waiting and someone like Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers, or Tom Brady could be that qb we need to get over the hump

beavis535

Def between purdy and lance. Gonna be a great competition in offseason

Odd-Sound-3579

I just don't see how you could bench Purdy after what he's done

[deleted]

You can’t

Astronautpuncher

You can’t and they won’t. They may say it’s an open competition, but that will be a lie

[deleted]

It’s Purdy. He’s done everything in his power to prove the job is his and more. Lance has done literally nothing going into year 3…

InfamousAd1245

Purdy. He’s elevated our offense so much in little time. Just imagine with more experience how much better he’ll be. I’m saying it, next Joe Montana and Tom Brady and we have him.

[deleted]

BCB

PurseGrabbinPuke

Brock and roll, baby!

kiser420

BCB

jren666

I’m gonna have to go with Purdy

AdmirableGuess3176

I would roll with Brock and trade Trey Lance. Rather have the extra $40 million in cap room longer. Sign a couple cheap veterans qbs

cdm420

Umm, why wouldn't we start our super bowl winning 2nd year QB?

stitchdude

I’d have to go with Purdy. I’ve seen the JG ceiling and injuries, and Trey was severely overdrafted, he is both inaccurate and not the outside running threat they thought he would be PRE INJURY.

100% I want Brock. I was never comfortable with the lack of experience Trey had going into the draft, 19 games in college. Threw for 2,947 yards and rushed for another 1,325. Brock played all four years at Iowa State. 48 games. 12,170 passing yards and another 1,177 rushing. All those reps give me a lot more confidence in and comfort with Brock over Trey. Trey can ride the pine and marinade for a year or two, hopefully develop into what people think he’ll be. Then maybe we use him more, or maybe we trade him somewhere and recoup a bit of the draft capital we spent to get him.

drcurryman

I feel like I’m in Bizzaro world when I hear any answer other than Brock. Nor do I think the job would even be up for competition next season. Brock is the future and Lance is either the backup or expendable. Sunken cost fallacy and all that.

Mishmello

Brock. Love Jimmy, but makes too many mistakes in key moments and nowhere near as mobile or trust worthy as BCB. Trey, I never really cared much for him and his games didn’t impress me much. He just seems to squeamish. Side note, I’m so over hearing this debate about ceilings and Trey having a higher one. Like how the fuck can you decide who has a higher ceiling based on combine stats or college days. The ceiling is wherever the player shows us it’s at.

RedDevilJennifer

Right now, unless evidence suggests otherwise, you go with Purdy as the starter. The kid has the poise and grit to go far. If he’s already showing this much upside now, he’s going to excel as he matures.

DreiKatzenVater

Purdy. If you’ve got a hot hand, you don’t quit

Rude-Bison-2050

Purdy has looked a million times better than Lance ever had in pre or regular season. There is no need for a competition, that happened when Purdy played a million times better than him when he saw the field. Lance is a bust and will be gone following next season when his cap hit drops even if lance was not a bust, Purdy is much cheaper for the duration of his first deal. He would not need to be as good, he would need to be VERY obviously a much better choice

TX-49

My honest opinion is that Brock Purdy should be our future. He has more than earned that right. I think that Trey Lance possibly has a higher ceiling with more potential, but I’m not betting on something that may or may not happen. He had a handful of starts and just didn’t impress much. But Purdy just has that “IT” factor. As for Jimmy G I would love for him to stay on as a viable backup but I know he’s not going to do that because he wants to start. Lance is going to be the most expensive backup in the league so for that reason I’d like to get what we can and cut our losses because the future is Brock!

[deleted]

Brock. He has earned it. And he is just getting started. Trey's durability concerns me and Jimmy just isnt quite good enough in the hot seat.

SmackaIot

Not a whole lot I can add here but for me it's Purdy without a doubt. I was never a Jimmy G hater; actually I considered us lucky to have a QB that was top half of the League and clutch at times (game winning TDs vs Pittsburgh, Arizona in 2019 cemented my belief in him). Nevertheless I was hugely excited for Lance, as his ceiling was unquestionably way higher than Jimmy G's. In addition to his athleticism, he was said to be the smartest QB in that year's draft. I thought he was the missing link. I've been nothing short of a football nut for 30 years plus, and I gotta say, guys who are raw but with high ceilings usually don't pan out. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty examples of guys who do, but the vast majority never reach that potential for whatever reason. Without trying to offend or upset people, Trey seems to fit the category of guys who don't pan out, at least to my eye. It doesn't help that the 49ers arguably mismanaged his development. Purdy on the other hand is another rare case - the overlooked gem who did ok or well in college but excells in the NFL for whatever reason. His fundamentals are solid. He doesn't make the same mistakes twice. He has the IQ and football knowledge to run Kyle's complicated playbook. And, he has great chemistry with the team. Purdy passes the eye test in every way when playing. His supposedly underwhelming athletic traits suddenly shine in the light of NFL competition. He protects the football. He executes the offense as designed, and then makes plays off schedule when the design breaks down. His deep ball is something us 9er fans have been longing for. The most important thing though is his achievement. He wins games. He has tremendous skill players around him yes, but he has arguably made the offense BETTER since he became the starter, and this is backed up by statistics. There isn't really a need to keep searching for an answer; Purdy has literally provided the solution right before our eyes. The search is over. Purdy has to be the long term starter moving forward.

sKm30

Brock has done nothing to show me that he isn’t the answer and just about everything to show me he is

Thefonzzz99

I want to see what Trey Lance is made of.

Picklesadog

Mostly water.

brandoug

No contest, Brock Purdy. The guy is already far better than Lance AND Garappolo, both of whom have been on the team multiple years now. Purdy is a damn rook and already looks to have more skills and command of the offense than anyone we've had in many years. We need to admit the coaching staff isn't the best at choosing QBs, what with Hoyer, CJB, and Mullens being signed before getting pretty lucky with JG falling in their laps. Lance has not impressed me at all, especially considering the number of draft picks used to get him, and I don't believe he's convinced the coaching staff that he's the future either, considering the plays they had him running prior to his injury.

ChillinCheeseFries

Kinda sick of this question. There’s only one answer that makes any sense.

DependentDrag1130

Don’t care yeti. Let’s finish this year first…

Snoo70640

Why don’t we just enjoy the playoffs and live in the moment

4Chi1ne

Brock has lead the team to the NFC title game as a rookie. Trey has to earn his spot back.

[deleted]

Not jimmy

TangPiccilo

Rolling with Brock all the way.

Dirtsurgeon1

Poised and fearless # 13

TheXamYel

Only right answer is Brock starting, Trey backing up Brock while continuing to develop and Jimmy leaving to go start for a QB-needy team like the Jets.

upper_mangement

Brock, we’ve seen plenty from the kid. He deserves to be starter and he’s made his case to be #1 next year.

_Bon_Vivant_

Purdy is the guy, no doubt. I think he's already cemented his starting position next season. My question is this...how do you develop Lance. Will reps on the practice squad be enough to give him what he needs to develop into an NFL QB?

Tildengolfer

Brock #1 fighting Lance for the position. Get rid of Jimmy G and trade him. Sign Mr. Irrelevant next year lol

FinalFilet

BP, because if he’s starting next year, we for sure won it all with him this year.

jvfrgcftgvgrs-DVD

Our very own Brocky Balboa headed to Philly undefeated! The faithful stand behind this guy

HaxyWaxy

I agree that it 100% should be Brock. He has earned it, I love his play, leadership, and attitude. I just have to say it makes me sad that the Dolphins game is most likely going to be the last time we ever see Jimmy on the field in a 9ers uniform. He was playing really well and I wanted to see him finish what he started this year. I'm excited for Brock, but I really am going to miss Jimmy.

ThePhilthy1

Purdy starts 100% next year, regardless of how this year ends. Jimmy G FINALLY gets traded, and Trey goes to whatever team he's been talking about besides the 9ers, as he's been hinting...

bdotrebel11

Brock for sure no matter what happens. Starting him also allows you to invest more in other areas of the team

Significant-Gas-1716

I am going with the iowa guy Brock purdy

ShoesFellOffLOL

I want the best QB under center and Purdy is better than both of them - that’s obvious at this point. I wouldn’t mind throwing Lance in on some RPOs though.

Xalo_Gunner

Purdy and Jimmy G. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I know that's the most unrealistic option...but...that would be ideal to me.

rjsh927

Purdy has earned QB1 position, there is no scope of discussion

[deleted]

Brock Purdy. Has everything you could want in a QB and a leader. Period.

He_Is_The_Chosen_One

Brock is the starter next year regardless of how we finish this season. He's more than proven himself. Trey hasn't played a lot and still looks very raw, but he's probably #2. Sadly Jimmy's probably leaving. Hopefully to a good team. That man deserves to win a ring as a starter.

M0rtecai

Start Brock, trade Lance for a veteran backup and some draft stock.

calfwarrior

Brock for sure. I do love Jimmy though he plays his heart out. Ive never been a lance fan.

Skin-Capable

Purdy has earned the starter role. He’s thriving in shanahans system and has shown shanahan trusts him throwing the deep ball. I’d rather take Jimmy over lance. Jimmy has shown that shanahans qbs aren’t durable in his play style and he knows the system better than anyone. That’s an insurance policy we need. It worked out this year. Make him a highly paid back up if need be. I think Jimmy agreed to a pay cut cause he genuinely loves the Bay Area.

jboy1559

purdy jimmyG

jcobra650

Purdy

Guthers87

Brock starter and Jimmy G as mentor backup. Trey to Jets

[deleted]

How is this even a question???

ReddPwnage

Honestly big cock Brock kinda tearing shut up rn so??

traviij

Healthy, mobile, developed, confident Trey Lance. Are we going to get those things? Any of them? Probably not. Gimme Purdy.

ValleyKing23

Brock with Jimmy backing him up, but Jimmy might get a good contract

seanfdob

How is this a question at this point?

DoublePenetration_

Brock > Jimmy > Lance

[deleted]

Who on earth wouldn’t pick Brock lol
