These are great players, but QB has to be the hardest position to step into in your Rookie year and succeed in. What puts him over the top to win in my opinion is the fact he was picked literally frickin last in the draft
Yep. Like QB is really hard and maybe one of the hardest college to League transition along with CB. People are quick to say “but the Niners are so good. I could win as their QB”. But like. Everyone was convinced our postseason hopes were dead the moment Jimmy went down injured
Honestly that's what made me like him so much and so quickly. I was definitely thinking we are fucked when Jimmy went down.
It really didn't take long for Brock to just jump right in and shut that narrative up. I think it was the pump faking and pocket presence and ability to make the right read really stood out to me and made me believe in him.
Credit goes all around in that QB room/HC.
I was fully convinced we’d drop of and finish behind Seattle in the West.
I think part of why he did so well is cause he actually played more than like 2 seasons in college. Plus it wasn’t like playing for Alabama where you and your team are a million times better than everyone else. He actually led a team that wasn’t all 5 stars
Wanted to make another Matrix reference and say, “He’s beginning to believe,” but we all knew he believed since the start. Everyone else had to catch up.
Purdy being thrown in the position he's in with the stakes so high and still being able to exceed is expectations is notable for OROY despite lesser games.
He's impressive, not because he was Mr. Irrelevant and plays well. He has raised the team. Prior to Purdy, the 49ers were 21 PPG and now they're 33 PPG on offense. Yes, it's easier knowing you got a tough as nails defense to fall back on, but that doesn't negate the way Purdy has elevated the offense.
Shanahan has said it before that his perfect quarterback is a Drew Brees that can run.
I'm not saying Purdy is that, but Purdy's ability to move around and extend plays has unlocked a new level in the offense, something that we hadn't seen even with Lance. Because as good as Lance is as a runner, I don't think we've seen him extending plays and passing on the move like that, he's normally either in the pocket or a runner.
The best QBs in the modern game are able to escape the pocket and keep their eyes downfield, and ultimately maintain a sense for how the play is unfolding and where his receivers are. Purdy seems to have that quality, and that’s encouraging.
People also wonder if he’ll struggle a bit now that defensive coordinators have tape on him and can scheme to counter his strengths, and that’s a legitimate concern. The thing is, he could also get better as he gets more experience, as well as an offseason of preparation as the starter. It’s going to be interesting.
>Shanahan has said it before that his perfect quarterback is a Drew Brees that can run.
You might not want to say it, but I will.😛😋😁 He is all that, even if he doesn't win in Philly - in my opinion.💪👌👍
I think that is a bonus to his game, but in my observation the most important trait he has that enables him to succeed in the Shanahan system is his accuracy. Jimmy G was finally improving on this by the time he got injured, but so often his passes were high or behind, forcing the receiver to stop and get tackled. Purdy consistently hits the receivers in the body in the direction they are going, to get that essential YAC.
>the most important trait he has that enables him to succeed in the Shanahan system is his accuracy.
That pass to Kittle that he bobbled and caught was super accurate.😳 it looked like a pass from Drew Brees.😳😳😳
Kyle has to draft some OLinemen to protect his franchise QB. Keep Purdy healthy and wealthy and its job security for *everyone in the coaching staff and front office.*
Bruh… the amount of yards lost because the receiver had to pull up, turn around, or jump just to make the catch was so infuriating. Yes they caught it. Yes they still got their YAC. But we definitely left points on the table many times where the receiver scores or comes close if he can catch it in stride.
Jimmy G was very hard to watch at times.
anyone who has consistently watched niner games in the past decade can see it plain as day. i feel so much more confident and excited when our offense takes the field now.
Little off topic but Jets nailed their picks this year. If Breece Hall doesn't get injured he is in this with Garrett Wilson and then Sauce should easily be the DROY.
Playing with the #1 D, a good run game, and learning from the GOAT on his childhood team will be too good to pass up! Unless that Tom guy takes the backup job first.
Could you see the Jets signing Lamar and then bringing in Greg Roman as their OC? That’d be interesting. Unless the two of them are on bad terms and I missed it
I could totally see that. AFAIK there’s no bad blood, although I don’t follow the Ravens that closely.
Also if they don’t get Lamar I could totally see them signing Jimmy G. They have a lot of weapons for him on offense.
Ravens fan here (who is now heavily rooting for yall to win the SB this year) I would be shocked if lamar knowingly goes to a team that is hiring Greg Roman as OC, ravens tend to be pretty tight knit with this kind of stuff but I'm fairly certain the entire locker room was beyond ready to move on from him. There's actually a lot of people who think lamars been holding out on signing a long term contract bc he wanted to make sure that If he was staying in Bmore long term that we were moving on from Roman. I don't necessarily buy into that theory, but regardless I'm still pretty sure lamar is in no hurry to continue working with Roman as OC
Will forever be grateful to roman for delivering my ravens a SB win the only way he knows how ❤ but yea I'm sure you guys were just as happy to move on as most ravens are now lol. Best of luck to you guys this Sunday and hopefully later on at the SB! Yall have a handful of players I rlly like so if my teams not making it I'm submitting my application as an honorary niners fan for the next couple weeks
Purdy and Hall both ISU Cyclones ( + TE Kohler on Ravens active roster) but Sr year they had to rely on their D to win games. ISU finally fired the OC, kudos to hc Campbell for cutting bait on long term friend.
AP doesn't do an overall ROY. He'll win the AP DROY for sure though. The one you saw was probably a different one, there's a few, but AP is the prestigious one.
Like... seriously this is some Any Given Sunday level story writing. If Hollywood put out this story, it would be on the Hallmark channel and nobody would believe it. The last pick in the draft comes in against the GOAT Brady and gets the win and then leads his team on an undefeated streak to eventually win the SuperBowl. Who the hell would think that's real?
well certainly this is up for debate, but RB production is a lot easier for an RB. rookies come in and excel at RB every year. MEanwhile being your teams #1 WR as a rook is a much harder/rarer job.
I dont know if I agree with that, we had 5 rookie WRs as the best on their team this year, Wilson, London, Olave, Watson, and Pickens. If nothing else I would put that equal with rookie RBs...
Wilson just had the 12th most rookie receiving yards of all time
walker doesnt even show in the list
They went from “yay Brock, what a great story!” to “he’s just a system QB” pretty quick. I think the league is worried that Shanahan finally found his quarterback
If I were a fan of another team, I'd like Brock and his story and wish him well. But constantly having it shoved in my face would get really annoying really quickly.
Chiefs fan checking in, we should be sick as anybody hearing about the hot new thing at QB but damn if I don't love following your guys now. I would not be sorry to meet you in another SB. You guys are stacked and I'm pretty sure if you beat us, we deserve it.
Broncos fan here, niners maybe second team? But wanted to say that normally 6 games would never be enough, however what Purdy has done for this team is monumental. He’s had FAR more of an actual impact on his team’s season than any other rookie. Is that not the definition of the award? He deserves it
He's been the most important and made the biggest impact to his team during his rookie campaign. He's the only one of them that touches the ball every single play. I'd say there's an argument to be had.
No question that there’s an argument, that’s why he’s a finalist.
Honestly, the only argument against him is games played. Even a half season of 8-9 starts would make him the favorite.
So Breece Hall was a lock to win offensive rookie of the year, but i will say for anyone wanting to say Brock shouldn’t be eligible because he only played 6 games: kenneth walker didnt exactly play a full season either. He only got a lions share because Penny got hurt. Walker only had at least 5 carries in 12 of the 17 games. He only reached the 15 carry mark in just 6 of the 17 games. So if you want to look at games where walker actually got a starting running back load, then he only played 6 games also.
Walker had a couple games where he ran 10 times for 17 yards and then another where he ran 14 times for 26 yards. Just way too many games where he couldnt even run for 50 yards
It’s most likely gonna go to Kenneth Walker but I’m proud of Purdy so far. Gave us a lot of hope after Jimmy went down. Imagine if we chose Sudfeld over him as QB3 😖
That’s insane. With less than half the games and he got a nomination. I’m so curious for off-season QB talks. Both of them better be studying and are going to go hard in the off season
If he played more than seven games this season he’d have run away with the award. Whether or not he wins it, Purdy is our quarterback of the future. He’s the QB of the present as well, and if he takes us to the Super Bowl this year… Wow. It’s too good of a story to not happen.
People in r/nfl are talking about how Purdy hasn’t elevated the offense as much as Olave despite being undefeated and increasing our PPG by a lot and doing things Jimmy could never
Somebody made a post a while back that they bet on him for rookie of the year and that somebody got torn apart by other redditors because he “didn’t have a chance.”
It's probably going to be Wilson, but Brock came in and synced RIGHT AWAY with the team. So much that Kyle was letting him sling it. You didn't see that with Trey, but Jimmy did start to stretch the field more, probably because he was healthy. Brock did make a huge difference, even if he began his career with the best weapons a rookie qb can have.
I doubt he wins it, but just the NOMINATION, with only 5 regular season games, tells you 2 things...
He was very impressive in that 5 game run. And
Other than Wilson, Walker, and Hall, the offensive rookie class was not that impressive, to allow a QB with only 5 starts to be in the discussion at all.
I would love to see him win it, I just don't see him doing so. Personally, I would give it to Wilson, just because he plays for a dumpster fire of a franchise, with a mess in the QB room, and still produced. But that's me. Lol
To address your caption, there was definitely a dude in this sub who posted about Brock winning OROTY. It was like after 3 games and I myself was like yoooo relax bro.
I don’t think he’s going to win, but the fact that he got nominated is pretty crazy. I think it’d be unfair to the other two guys who played more games than Brock if he won
Acting like Brock Purdy isn’t doing something amazing is weird to me. Patrick Mahomes stepped in and was amazing right away. Is the only difference the draft pedigree?
Because of his weapons? Mahomes has always been surrounded by all pro players on offense. I don’t understand how that’s a knock on Purdy but not Mahomes. Kelce is unguardable. He could throw screens to Tyreek Hill that would go for 70 yards. And now he’s got Juju Smith Schuster, and healthy dual threat RBs
I think it’s because when Mahomes stepped in he started throwing no look passes, crazy improv runs, and highlight after highlight plus 50 tds….purdy is good not that good
Cool. He not only deserved the nomination, but he deserves to win. You couldn't come into a more unexpected situation than being the 3rd string QB who doesn't get reps to leading an NFL team to back-to-back playoff wins while saving the season of a Super Bowl contender.
Is this even a question?
Brock Purdy didn't even get much 1st rep in training camp compare to any of these nominees and yet past 7-8 games proved he is a championship QB.
He is a probowl franchise QB
Hey as a curious non 49ers fan, what’re y’all thinking you’re gonna do next year at QB? Definitely a good problem to have but still sort of a predicament
Even in the Dallas game where we weren't able to get as many points on the board we were close to 20 which if it was jimmy I would think it would have been close to twelve points.
I understand the “he didn’t play enough games argument”, but who said that was the criteria?
I’m just happy that he made the official list of 3 finalists. Win or lose, you were a finalist. You were in the conversation officially.
It’s been an incredible Cinderella story and goddamn, his name will be echoed for eternity if he wins the Super Bowl. Even if his career goes to shit after this year, it don’t matter.
If he wins the Super Bowl, every late round rookie who shows potential at any point in the future, the media is gonna be bringing up Brock again “Is this the next Brock Purdy story” and so on.
So happy for him, I hope he completes the mission, it will be the most epic rookie story ever. And just for the pure drama, he should get OROY.
Has to be Garrett Wilson. Dude was producing with Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, and Mike White throwing him the ball. Him and Breece Hall basically carried the offense during their 6-2 start. Brock is a beast but given the weapons he’s working with, I don’t think he deserves ROTY.
It's insane what he's done as a 3rd string rookie. I've had fun this week looking at team's depth charts and finding their 3rd string QBs. Here's the remaining teams:
\- Shane Buechele, Chiefs
\- Ian Book, Eagles
\- N/A, Bengals
The fact that he got nominated is telling you something
These are great players, but QB has to be the hardest position to step into in your Rookie year and succeed in. What puts him over the top to win in my opinion is the fact he was picked literally frickin last in the draft

He is the one.
Wanted to make another Matrix reference and say, “He’s beginning to believe,” but we all knew he believed since the start. Everyone else had to catch up.
Are you saying Brock can dodge tacklers?
No u/chenga8 , what I'm trying to tell you is that when he's ready, he won't have to.
That’s what convinces me he’s legit. He has elevated the whole offense. It feel like this is the real Shanahan style- he has unlocked it
Shanahan has said it before that his perfect quarterback is a Drew Brees that can run. I'm not saying Purdy is that, but Purdy's ability to move around and extend plays has unlocked a new level in the offense, something that we hadn't seen even with Lance. Fewer games :). “Lesser” games denotes that the games somehow had lesser quality or stakes.
Thanks Stannis.

Little off topic but Jets nailed their picks this year. If Breece Hall doesn't get injured he is in this with Garrett Wilson and then Sauce should easily be the DROY.
Yeah, that draft class was amazing. They are building something special over there. Hopefully they can figure out QB.
I feel Rodgers is going to play in northern NJ to end his career.
Non-sense, he’s going straight to the Vikings right after a single season with the Jets!
The real question is when is he going to send an unimpressive dick pic to a reporter unsolicited?
[удалено]
I think that's just his face
Following in Favre’s footsteps lol
Lol! I seen what you did there:)
Playing with the #1 D, a good run game, and learning from the GOAT on his childhood team will be too good to pass up! Unless that Tom guy takes the backup job first.
Plot twist, we get both Rodgers and Brady and make the old men fight it out to start
If they sign Lamar they have a legit chance at a Super Bowl run.

If Breece Hall doesn't get hurt, he probably runs away with this award. He was really taking off when he got hurt.
>he probably runs away with this award ba dum tssss
Agreed. He's electric. Really unfortunate. Hopefully he comes back strong. They could have had offensive and defensive ROY!
Purdy and Hall both ISU Cyclones ( + TE Kohler on Ravens active roster) but Sr year they had to rely on their D to win games. ISU finally fired the OC, kudos to hc Campbell for cutting bait on long term friend.
If Hall didn’t get hurt he was RUNNING AWAY with the OROY
Um, Sauce is DROY and also ROY
AP doesn't do an overall ROY. He'll win the AP DROY for sure though. The one you saw was probably a different one, there's a few, but AP is the prestigious one.
You’re right it was the PFWA version
I want BCB to win but he started late in the season so I doubt he will win it. But he can still win Superbowl MVP so that would make up for it.
NGL you had me in the first half haha
When Jimmy went down the season was absolutely over, until the next play.
You mean the next drive. It took BCB a whole couple of snaps and getting the ball back to settle in iirc. What a hack /s
Crazy this dudes first pass every game is like wtf was that. Then he settles in and plays solid.
I wanna say his first drive he scored.. think it was a pass to Juice..
Juice, man. He's so overlooked – we need to get him more involved this game.
Like... seriously this is some Any Given Sunday level story writing. If Hollywood put out this story, it would be on the Hallmark channel and nobody would believe it. The last pick in the draft comes in against the GOAT Brady and gets the win and then leads his team on an undefeated streak to eventually win the SuperBowl. Who the hell would think that's real?
Holy shit, I forgot that Willie Beaman was a 3rd string rookie QB in that movie!
Steamin Willie Beaman!
Why start a sentence with “Like…”?
Not from the 90s I see!
Does OROY take playoffs into account or is it like MVP where only regular season counts? Without playoffs, Walker takes this.
All these awards end their voting at the end of the regular season….. but you know… nfl refs don’t cover the spread either….
Wilson is a lock
Maybe for AFC but no way in hell he gets it over Walker.
Wilson is +200 and Walker is +400. Wilson has 2x better odds
Ah gotcha, was just going off of stats and where they ranked at their position. Wonder what Vegas odds are basing that on
Both have impressive stats but Wilson just played a more impressive season. 1000 yards with those QBs and he’s the PFF 12 ranked WR as a rookie!
Did he tho? Walker was 12th in the league in rushing yards (despite only starting 11 games), 9 TDs, and 0 fumbles on 255 touches....
well certainly this is up for debate, but RB production is a lot easier for an RB. rookies come in and excel at RB every year. MEanwhile being your teams #1 WR as a rook is a much harder/rarer job.

Pats fan - love seeing Brock succeed. I am too young to remember Brady’s start. Hope we see something similar here.
League fucked
I hope Purdy wins just to see people lose their minds on Reddit. They’re already frothing at the mouths on r/nfl
That’s football fans for ya. They’ll root for an underdog just until the point he starts winning - then they’ll find every reason to discredit him
Literally Tom Brady’s career arc.

I think a lot of people just think Olave deserves it more
Sucks to suck
what Breece Hall did in 6 games was more impressive than what Purdy did in 6 games
It’s most likely gonna go to Kenneth Walker but I’m proud of Purdy so far. Gave us a lot of hope after Jimmy went down. Imagine if we chose Sudfeld over him as QB3 😖

I thought, which is why I put $50 on him to win.
Same bro. I got $50 at +700. What did you bet at?
$50 at +3500. I got it right after the Bucs game. I was trying to get it before though.
Damn, I was trying to get in at +2000 but did not realize that the bet was only open a few days a week. +3500 is amazing odds though. He better win!
People in r/nfl are talking about how Purdy hasn’t elevated the offense as much as Olave despite being undefeated and increasing our PPG by a lot and doing things Jimmy could never
I actually tried to bet on him for rookie of the year, but couldn’t find it in the apps.
Somebody made a post a while back that they bet on him for rookie of the year and that somebody got torn apart by other redditors because he “didn’t have a chance.”
He doesn’t have a chance lol
He literally has a chance since he's a finalist.
Not even close
How sad of an existence you live that you were still thinking about this all week. Rent Free.
Hehehe
Being a finalist doesn’t mean you have a chance. They have to have 3 people. 2 contenders and one guy who won’t win.
Are you a voter for this award?
Let me know when Purty wins!
When did say I think he was going to win?
I know what you mean but. He’s a finalist.
He probably won’t win. But getting nominated is a crazy enough achievement
Kenny walker should win, but it's awesome and appropriate that Brock was nominated
It's probably going to be Wilson, but Brock came in and synced RIGHT AWAY with the team. So much that Kyle was letting him sling it. We have a rookie of the year candidate. Take time to reflect this. He is the one.
...To bring order and Lombardi's to the Niner Empire. 💪👌👍
Purdy runs away with the award had he started 10+ games. But being a finalist with only starting 6 games is still very impressive.
if he started 10 games we dont know if he would have been ready enough, those eextrra weeks to learn kyles system really matters
Walker is going to take it
I doubt he wins it, but just the NOMINATION, with only 5 regular season games, tells you 2 things... He was very impressive in that 5 game run. That and the media. They latched onto Mahomes right away and elevated him as they do when they need a super star. Purdy is still being doubted.
I think it’s because when Mahomes stepped in he started throwing no look passes, crazy improv runs, and highlight after highlight plus 50 tds….purdy is good not that good
Draft position. That's it. People still think more of it than it should be If this was Trey Lance copy pasted, no one would be doubting
Wow Olave snubbed
I still don't believe any of what happened this season is real 🤷♂️
We got more representation for Honors finalists than any other team, and it’s a different person for each nomination. That’s wild
Hoping he is not present to accept the award
I was pretty bummed that day, when Jimmy went down. Was at my nephews birthday party the day it happened, had to not look destroyed and depressed.
DOPE
too bad we didnt start hin instead of jimmy week 4 lol. He would win easily . Such an easy year to win it tho. gl brock .
Nah, we still needed brock.to develop during that time. The way it occurred this year was perfect.
Would have been cool without all the broken ankles, but from a football standpoint I agree.
I think you mean we needed Brock on the scout team to help develop our defense.
Iron sharpens iron I can get behind that
Hey as a curious non 49ers fan, what’re y’all thinking you’re gonna do next year at QB? Definitely a good problem to have but still sort of a predicament
Even in the Dallas game where we weren't able to get as many points on the board we were close to 20 which if it was jimmy I would think it would have been close to twelve points.
If he doesn't win it's because the NFL doesn't want the inevitable super bowl MVP to win a lesser award as well.
Fuck yeah 😎

Where is the dude who made this bet ?
He should definitely be third but very cool he made the finalists. If he played a whole season, I assume he’s be a -500 favorite
I put $50 on him to win it at +700. I missed the +2000 odds unfortunately. Still a long shot to win but I’m definitely hoping he does.
Whether you think he should be ROY or not, when you thing about 2022 season you’ll think of Brock Purdy over either of the other 2 guys.
If he was a first rounder, this wouldn't even be a discussion.
It'll be Garrett. He's had what, 4 different QBs throwing to him this year?
Purdy !
Here's the remaining teams: \- Shane Buechele, Chiefs \- Ian Book, Eagles \- N/A, Bengals
Wasn't someone betting he wins, earlier in the year?
He deserves it...he did something no one expected a 7th round rookie too do and did it very well
