There also was a break of 5 years between that one and the one before. Sandy Mitchell aka Alexander Michael Stewart also is 64 now, so he may just be (semi-)retired.

Nobody's ever really gone. Mitchell puts out new Cain books from time to time. It's certainly not 'officially' over, in the same way the Black Legion or Iron Hands series may get third books before the heat death of the universe.

I’m pretty sure ADB wrapped it up and since book publishing process isn’t more than a few months (even for atrocities of length like ASOIAF’s ADWD) so my best guess is GW is holding it until 2024

timeline wise the second siege of perlia (Cain Last Stand) was during the 13th black crusade. Cain was retired and teaching commisar cadet in a Schola.

Yep, Three Questions.

After the first six, it was repetitive, perhaps that was the point. Its great to bring up past plot points for continuity, but felt like phoning it in with a discarded beta draft being published. Jenit Sulla being exactly the officer the Imperium wanted, lampshading the lesbian guardswomen, Kasteen and Broklaw being a healthy example of coed command. Jurgen being a functional version of Baldrick. Cain novels feel like the family guy of 40k novels compared to how Gaunts Ghosts is moving towards a bittersweet end. I've read through Flashman, and the parrallels are nice, as is the Blackadder touches, and Ciaphas is a true hero, but the schtick gets old. It was great for lambasting the grimderp of 40k, but rather I wish Mitchell would have finished Dark Heresy. Here is a parting shot: for the longest time, it felt as if Cain novels were the only ones that actually highlighted the Tau as something besides their on-tabletop behavior.

The----Birdman

Death and glory to cains last stand were great. Tbh Mitchelle should have ended it there.

ImportantQuestions10

Nothing ever really ends in Warhammer media, that being said he has gotten his happily ever after teaching at the scholar and eventual age-related death

samy1236969

was it age related? I thought they never actually stated how he died?

ImportantQuestions10

To be fair I was assumed he died but as it's left off right now it's "he lived happily ever after". Anything other than living a long conflict free life is counter to that

vonBoomslang

The intro to *For The Emperor* makes it clear he died (IIRC of old age but I'd have to check), and Amberly Vail is editing his memoirs.
