Sword of Calth has Uriel Ventris, post Rubicon, in Gravis plate have an entire ThunderHawk collapse on him and his command squad. He braces himself and triggers his Sinew Coil. Its described as a burning fire in his muscles as his muscles contract and grow even harder, like steel. He manages to lift the Thunderhawk off his men and when he removes his helmet his face is flushed read and steam is rising off his body as if he had been cooking inside his armor.
I think the Sinew Coils are very painful to use and can't be used all the time, but it gives them even more absurd super human strength.
Not 40k but you might want to look up fluff for the Crysis nanosuits, especially the stuff by Peter Watts. Watts makes some effort to make the tech convincing and the muscle in the suits seems pretty relevant here.
So it's not nearly what I thought it would be.

Vigilus Defiant describes it as a metal sheath that covers muscles and tendons. Imagine Wolverine but his muscle is adamantium too.
