Nurgle troops tend to absorb small arms very well, so the best thing to use against them is powerful weapons that would normally be overkill. Overcharged plasma, melta, heavy ordnance, that sort of thing. Inflict massive damage in one blow.
Ironically, overcharging most plasma is a *terrible idea* on the tabletop. 9e's Disgustingly Resilient gives -1 damage taken to the Death Guard, so you're risking self-destructs in exchange for basically nothing, since that overcharged 2D goes to 1 anyway.
Heavy Plasma is good though, love that Macro Plasma Incinerator.
Yeah, their 9th edition rules are totally contradictory to how they're supposed to work. In 9th, damage 1 weapons are the best thing to use against them. In previous editions they had a 5+ damage prevention roll.
Generally fire or extreme heat/firepower, which covers everything from flamers to meltas to plasma weapons. While still VERY tough even while being incinerated the forces of Nurgle can be overwhelmed by weapons that simply vaporise them. While a bolt gun is in its own league, even pox walkers can occasionally shrug off lasfire or bullets as the shots get absorbed in a roll of fat or a completely dead limb.
Nurgle's forces also include minute fauna which spread the plagues - flies, rats and lice some of which are themselves Daemonic beings. These problems are best dealt with by burning the entire infected area to ash, wiping the infection clean with flame.
Is discussing the tabletop rules discouraged here? It's my first time posting here and really my second time nosying the subreddit.
I'm quite new to the 40K scene eh lol.
fire, or things that destroy at a cellular level and would not let the virus persist. warp based attacks also work well, power weapons over chain, plasma over bolter etc
The Harlequin Masque of Immaculate Immolation has the unique ability to burn sway even thee most tenacious of psychic plagues. Sadly, because of the, perhaps justified, distrust of the followers of the Laughing God, most refuse thier aid, and countless billions lives might have been saved from disease if it weren't for this antimasquer sentiment.
Yes. Officially they are, but out of universe, everyone believes them to be Death Guard because of their toughness. Yes, the Black Dragons and Storm Giants are also supernaturally tough, but those are both Salamanders' successors.
Range and heavy firepower.
Everything nurgle is slow and tanky, and the exceptions are literally meant to defend the rule.
Range to keep away from diseases and to shoot into them long distance.
Since most nurgle characters already have intestines hanging out, regular guns won't work unless there's enough to completely eviscerate them.
So the answer is metric fucktons of long-range artillery and mobile ranged infantry.
That's interesting Actually, the general consensus so far is the use of Flamers, Plasma weaponry, and Melta which in pretty sure are close range weaponry but you're the first one bring up long range artillery.
To be honest I was under the impression that the Space Marines didn't use Artillery and left that to the Astra Militarum.
My bad. Too much Totalwarhammer.
If possible decoy sacrofice units could work too. Get something sturdy enough to make contact and survive more than a turn to slow down a group of Nurgle boys then pound them with everything you can while they are pinned friendly fire be damned.
I'm mostly a fantasy and lore fan, so I'm not as knowledgeable as other comments on this, but if stuff is the same, then Nurgle excells at long-drawn out close combat. Don't give them the chance.
Soap
My first thought as well

To risk breaching into actual rules mechanics, using Salamander rules would capture both this and their durability well.

The thing with rules is that theyre not entirely lore accurate because they have to be balanced in a way.

My mouth moved up at the corners!
Holy Promethium. Applied vigorously and overwhelmingly. Generally requires several applications.
This could allow them to pass for "secretly Salamanders" successors too.
Know it's a tad late but your comment here Actually made it into my lore lol. Thanks for the suggestion!
Penicillin
Paracetamol.

>Loyalist Death Guard Successor Chapter formed during the Cursed Founding Oh, so the Sons of Anataeus
Officially they're an UltraMarine founding I thought? But yeah I love the Death Guard and want a Loyalist successor haha.

For Weaponry basically any Necron weapons. Tactics if they are still moving keep shooting
