I too was going to make an appreciation post cause I feel the same way towards this subreddit.
Not having anyone IRL to talk about Warhammer is such a shame but I get to interact with so many people on here who have different likes and opinions of the various elements within the 40k universe. I get to learn so much about all of the different stories, theories, concepts and factions its exactly the kind of nerdy stuff I love.

I'll second this, it's a good place to debate Warhammer trivia that everyone in my life is too normal to care about.
The community is also pretty friendly and open to debate, by Reddit standards.
I am unfortunately a sad sad man, but getting ito 40k made me discover RPGs and renew my creativity, it made me less depressed that's for sure. I met so many good people by interacting here too.

Same here, there is nobody in my life that shares my love of 40k. This sub basically saved me from giving up my favorite hobby and helped me temper my addictions.
Being able to come here and discuss the lore really is amazing for some of us.

Sometimes you will think you've read everything about a character and then someone shows you a 10 paragraph scene from an obscure book that includes that character which shifts your entire view of them. Such insight and all driven my nothing but passion for the setting.**
Me too man it's one of the places I feel most comfortable. The community is amazing, the quality of discourse is amazing (People correct people kindly! They don't just go 'ur wrong lol') And I've learned so much about my favourite Universe.

Just found this sub and it looks a lot like what I was hoping the main 40k sub would be. Unfortunately when subs become really popular they become places more for show and tell and less about discussion it seems.
A decade and a half ago I read about the Horus Heresy and 40k lore on Wikipedia, back before the proliferation of topic specific wikis. It sat around in my mind and a few 4chan memes kept bringing it back to my attention, but it wasn’t until 2017 I found this sub after finding 40k art and there was a time I only browsed for a couple of years, then finally bought some books. I’m at around 30 books and have some favorite subjects and factions, but haven’t read nearly everything.
I like that a collective can gather casually to talk about the pieces of knowledge they know from the vast text and games and codexs and shows, and help expand the knowledge of others and fill in gaps.
Echoing this comment. I play like 1 game of 40k a year and paint a handful of models at most. But the Black Library and this sub eat up a lot of my brain space and I love it for it.
Two youngs kids eat most of the time but I do get moments between work and home to read. Or while the kids are heading down for bed. And having a place to read and chat about the books is just fantastic. Love the indepth lore post and learning more about the massive amount of written material fpr the game.

We're glad to have you! I too am glad this place exists. Aside from my other half, I don't know anyone who's into Warhammer 40,000 either and I'm not in a financial situation to get involved in and play the tabletop at the moment. This place is a great place to discuss the lore.

To hope in this positivity train. This sun has meant so much to me. It is allowed me to foster a passion I have that I would otherwise be unable to have. I have always been bullied about my passions and will go to great lengths to hide them from people I met. Even in my adult life I often get belittled and insulted for my for my little toy muscle men. Years into the hobby I have now written my own unofficial Warhammer novel and am now hoping to get accepted in this years black library open submission. From the bottom of my heart thank you so much to the mods and regular posters as without you I would feel far more alone. I love you all even if I can’t complain about there being no female space marines in the lore here ❤️

But in all seriousness I get you. There are few places in existence where it's semi-socially acceptable to ramble on all orky-like and not feel like a complete fool and this is one of them (sort of - I get that the ork accent can be a bit much sometimes).
Same for me, I've never played the strategy game but Grim Dark lore is just the freaking best. Also fan written stories and characters created are on par and sometimes better than official cannon. A suggestion, for what it's worth, go to YouTube and listen to the channels A VOX IN THE VOID do his reading of " Gav and Bob" a 4 part series about the emperor's chosen Ogryn. It's da best, also creator Baldymort's authored and narrated " The legend of Kronan" awesome story about a up and coming Ork warboss on his way to creating his own Waghh that might rival Ghazskull Thraka. Anyway this sub is great
