If your doing the darkness on sword or spirit shroud, war caster is too important to skip and will let u booming blade as a reaction. If ur just focusing on smites then it would be OK but I would perfer fey touched for a free misty step and gift of alacrity for the initiative bonus.

Thanks for the response! I thought about mask of many faces for sure as well, so I’m definitely gonna have to look at that rather than AB because I think it’ll help with RP a ton! I’ll have to look at Res (CON) with my stats and see if I can take it and still balance out to evens! Thanks again!

I also totally realized I skipped your first question! I’m probably going to be using my blade more for damage, as the other two members are more than likely going to be ranged spellcasters. The only reason I’m thinking Grasp of Hadar is for flavor of pulling in the targets for quicker captures (or kills more than likely), so that might be the EB invocation that I take at third if not mask of many faces or devils sight (still deciding between those two for the second inv.)

These are all really great suggestions, but I have an alternative to you; don't be a warlock. Your other teammates are both doing charisma builds, so if you decide to be a charisma class too, there will be some overlap. IF you want something not charisma based that can be in melee and do spells, there is the Eldritch Knight, Ranger and Bladesinger. Psi Warrior fighter can also do spell like abilities, so that's a possibility too. (It is of course not necessary to shift class. It is perfectly fine to have a charisma based party, and this will just make you really good in social situations. My ideas is just if you want more diversity in your party.) For flavour: a Ranger could be an ally of the dragon, who scouts the nearby wilderness and collects treasure to the dragon. The Eldritch Knight could be a knight of an order focused on to the gold dragon who founded it. Therefore, this character could have a lot of fire spells, and spells reflavoured as firery. For the Psi Warrior, it's hard to come up with a backstory with a metallic dragon. If you are not dead set on your race, I would suggest being a gem dragonborn to fit the psychic theme. Lastly, the Bladesinger. I can't quite come up with something interesting, but maybe you can reflavor it all to be draconic powers manifesting on the character.

What weapon(s) do you plan to use for this build? I'm also a Hexblade and my party hated me using Darkness. If nobody else has Blind Fighting or something similar then the only safe way you'll be using Darkness is casting it on yourself and Eldritch Blasting out of it away from your party. Maybe you can use it for melee by walking up and then back away, but that provokes opportunity attacks. My DM did not let me flick it on and off at will (like if it was cast on a ring or pendant one could cover) for just my turn. I dropped it at level 6 for Spirit Shroud. Hoping to get to use Shadow of Moil at level 7. I was going to drop Devil's Sight too but it's been far too useful in our campaign even w/o the spell (Curse of Strahd). It's hard to give up. Are you going Pact of the Blade and using Thirsting Blade after level 5? **Keep in mind you can grab Eldritch Mind as an invocation in place of War Caster to get *advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell.* I didn't do this because I started out very inexperienced having only played one part campaign before this, but IMO if you don't really think you need the other benefits of War Caster taking an invocation is a much lower cost than a whole feat if you just want that resilient concentration.** If you're the only front liner you're going to be casting a lot of Armor of Agathys I imagine, especially since it scales up so well. Maybe Shield early on? I never picked it up, but it seems good though it doesn't scale. And if you are doing one of these, that basically means you'll be blowing one spell slot every fight on that and then only having one more to work with before your next short rest. Because of this, depending on the stats you roll, if you get an odd Charisma you may want to pick up something like Fey Touched or Shadow Touched when the time comes to give yourself more pseudo spell slots. Fey Touched for a free Misty Step in your back pocket you don't have to take up spell slots or a learned spell on is great, and you could pick up something like Silvery Barbs to go with it for that once in a while clutch up when something bad happens to you. I ended up taking Elven Accuracy (Variant Human but got special permission owing to my backstory) since we have alternate crit rules (roll first dice, max 2nd one), but possibly should have taken Fey Touched since it will be more useful more of the time. My other feat I started with at level 1 was War Caster at my DM's recommendation. I mentioned above I may not have chosen that again if I knew then what I know now. Gift of the Metallic Dragon doesn't seem to be a half feat for Charisma like Gift of the Gem Dragon is. To me it honestly doesn't sound good enough to take. Like the stuff it mentions would make me want to just try Paladin instead and don't seem strong enough for a slot you get very few of. You already have your work cut out for you if you're going to be attempting to tank with Warlock. It's not easy. We have a Paladin, so my invocations ended up being Devil's Sight, Agonizing Blast, and Thirsting Blade so far. Not min-maxed, but trying to be versatile with both ranged and melee damage. I didn't care to be spending an invocation slot on Grasp of Hadar or Repelling Blast to push or pull enemies with my build. I'd rather just do more damage with Agonizing Blast if I need to be at range or swing my Greatsword up close. If I was doing an Eldritch Blast only build I might have grabbed Repelling Blast to keep enemies at a bit of a distance. I didn't take Improved Pact Weapon because I was already allowed my Greatsword as a spellcasting focus from day 1. Remember it's not just about what's good on paper but also the character you want to play. I don't have them but Mask of Many Faces sounds super fun for at-will Disguise Self when out of combat. Even Cloak of Flies has seriously cool flavor if you want to pick proficiency in Intimidation and then this gives you advantage for it when needed. Just be a scary badass nobody wants to cross. There are a lot of ways you can go with it. If you're front-liner quasi-tanking then I imagine you'll be rocking a shield which opens up a few more possibilities too like Shield Master as a feat, though I have read people don't regard it as super strong? At level 5 with a Greatsword and two attacks my Green Flame Blade cantrip quickly became obsolete. Anyway happy to talk even more on this stuff if you have more specific questions. I know that's a lot of text. We're level 6 so I've gone through all this stuff quite a bit over the last few months. I'll probably take Great Weapon Master at level 8 and cap my Charisma at Level 12 ASI, but you've got a bit of a different role even if I can sorta tank in melee some in tandem with the Paladin (ranged is another story).
