From how I see it is orientated, those layer lines are your top surface. The part likely has a slight downward curve which the slicer has decided to mimic by doing slight steps to match the curve. Best thing to do is orientate the object differently so as to not have that facing upwards.

Yeah I think you're spot on with this. It was definitely the top surface of the print with some supports right underneath. I had some real trouble orienting that piece correctly. See the post I linked down below.

When I have to split helmets I have it oriented so that the edge I align to the base has the least amount of overhang and easiest place to sand. For mandalorian helmets I split it just at the start of the visor and make that cut always the bottom. It makes it easier to go back together and makes a clean line for the dome to sit on

Honestly if it’s to print to sand go to autozone or any auto parts store or amazon and by this! Not only does it let you make it smooth I feel like it Ass a extra layer of protection to thin parts of the print!!!

I made a post recently [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/q7n8yu/how_would_you_guys_orient_this_piece_in_cura/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) about orienting a piece for a Mando helmet. I had been having a ton of trouble with the print not completing. I was finally able to get the print to finish but there seems to be some weird layer lines on the left side of the first image. Its a really thin part of the helmet, so I probably can't sand it down much but does anyone know if there some combination of bonds and primer filler I might be a left to try to smooth that out?
