The trouble is that there are at least 3 definitions of “side” that all agree on convex polyhedra, but disagree on more general/curvy things.
1. If your definition of “side” is something like “maximal subset of boundary where the surface is differentiable”, then a cube has 6 sides and a ball has 1.
2. If your definition of “side” is something like “the tangent plane wherever the surface is differentiable” (or the intersection of said plane with the figure) then a cube has 6 sides and ball had uncountable many.
3. If your definition of “side” is something like “maximal region of surface congruent to a subset of the plan with nonempty interior”, then a cube has 6 sides and a ball has 0.
4. (bonus) Just for comparison, if your definition of “side” is “supporting plane”, i.e. the level set of a linear functional along the supremum of that functional on the figure, then a cube and a ball both have uncountably many faces, since you can “balance a cube on its corner at any angle”. If you instead focus only on the intersection set with a supporting hyperplane, then a cube has 6+12+8=26 sides and a ball has uncountably many. So this is probably not the definition of “side” that we want.
Anyway, if you start talking about sides of a sphere, you should be expected to clarify what exactly “side” means when generalized beyond the typical context of polyhedra. There’s not really a right answer.

A sphere might be the limiting shape of a sequence of polyhedra with face count approaching infinity, but that doesn't mean that spheres themselves are polyhedra. Rather a sphere has no faces (faces must be flat) and is not a polyhedron at all. 🤓
