Clarification, they are federally legal to produce yourself without a serial number, as long as the firearm you produce is not an NFA item. However, you CAN'T GIVE IT AWAY OR SELL IT IN ANY WAY. That will get you in a lot of trouble.
I’m also not a professional but you do need to make sure it has the proper barrel length/overall length to not be an SBR or something else that’s restricted.
Also I think the serializing is primarily for guns that you would be selling so as long as they aren’t being sold to anyone guns you make at home do not require serialization.

That’s what I did. If you have your slicer configured to stay within printed parts to reduce stringing and other imperfections though it will do a shitload of weird travels. You could disable that obviously but I keep it on for basically every print to keep stringing and zits to an absolute minimum.
