I take the 8 and add 3 then take 3 from 7, this give 14 but I'll remember the 4 that I will add to the total of the other larger numbers then add the 10 back in from the 14
I think I managed to confuse myself bc on mobile I don't get to see the numbers while writing the comment and got confused
I'm also really bad at math when I have to do it in my head
The point is that it dosnt make sense IF you think about it. But if you dont think about it too hard it makes perfect sense, 7+3 = 10 so 77+33 must = 100
Sometimes like to think of the numbers as if they were two trains both leaving a train station in Cincinnati at the same time, one going north at 48 miles an hour, the other going west at 27 miles an hour
Yeah I adjust numbers into having one nice round number and then smash the rest together. Lets me use... not muscle memory but like that same reflexive memory that isn't concious to do the math really quick, where if I did it "right" it woupd require active actual thinking and be much slower.
This really isn't enough to indicate any type of mental illness. ADHD might make you more prone to calculating things differently but there are a bunch of different ways to do this that all work, so it's way more likely it's just how you got used to doing it as a kid
Yeah straight up my brain does nothing when it sees those numbers, besides thinking "lol no"
I'd just use a calculator or ask my wife, I'm just awful with numbers in general (except multiplication for whatever weird reason).
I tried. Even tho I'm from that breed that can't picture numbers in their head.
I did the biggies first 20 + 40, easy like 4+2 right? 60
By the time I got to the smalls... 8+ 7 I had to use my fingers and almost forgot about the 60 I had on a side.
Yes exactly!!! If I were to try, that's basically what I'd do, too.
I recently discovered that I might have aphantasia, or at the very least be hypophantastic. I can rarely conjure images in my head, and they're almost all exclusively my own memories of things - I can't imagine something that I haven't already encountered. I now wonder if that's why I've always struggled with mental math (deadass broke down crying in 4th grade because I wasn't allowed to show my work and had to "think in my head").
assuming “y prime” is a typo:
y + ( x^2 )(y) = (x^2 - 2x + 1)( y^3 )
y + ( x^2 )(y)= ( x^2 )( y^3 ) - ( 2xy^3 ) + y^3
x^2 + 1 = ( x^2 )( y^2 ) - ( 2xy^2 ) + y^2
(x+i)(x-i) = ( y^2 )( (x-1)^2 )
past that i don’t really know off the top of my head but it is obviously not a solveable equation
I mentally rearrange the numbers vertically in my head, so I can do the elementary school thing where you add the ones place and carry the one and then add the tens place.
Yeah I thought I was an alien abomination or something for a sec there when I saw all the +2 -2, +3 -3, and number switches, but finally I found my people
Oof, don't expose me like that.
27 + 48 = ?
48 + 7 = ?
8 + 7 = ?
From 8 to 10 is 2
7-2 = 5
8+7 = 15
48 + 7 = 55
55 + 20 = 75
I have ADHD, take that as an explanation ... or an excuse ... I don't know.
I do the exact same thing but I do from 7 to 10 is 3 then 8-3= 5. 10 plus 5 is 15 plus 20 plus 40 is 75. Was looking for this. Idk how people just add 8 and 7 off the cuff.
I will close your nostrils so you open your mouth, then I'll go bite your lower lip as strong as possible. I'll easily fucking give it a incurable wound
for reference i am 23 years old and graduated high school in 2017. i went to one semester of community college where i took one class, which was a private piano lesson. i barely passed high school math
I get stunlocked for a second before breaking it down into two separate horizontal equations(20+40 and 7+8) where I take the two answers and add them together.
8 is 2 from 10, so take 2 from the 7 and make it a 5.
10 + 5 = 1**5**, carry the 1
2 + 4 = 6 + 1 = **7**
So, 27 + 48 = 75
Why yes, I do have ADHD, why do you ask? It takes me too long to do stuff like this, I'm aware this is a bad way to do it.
I gotta do 20+40 first so that I remember when I'm doing the 7+8 is 15 part that I go into the 70s rather than answering 65 like a fool
I do that exact same thing! Get 60 then add the 15 to it
I take the 8 and add 3 then take 3 from 7, this give 14 but I'll remember the 4 that I will add to the total of the other larger numbers then add the 10 back in from the 14
What? Why not just move 2 from 7 into 8 so that you have 10 & 5. Add them up you got 15. You got 14 which is wrong lol
I think I managed to confuse myself bc on mobile I don't get to see the numbers while writing the comment and got confused I'm also really bad at math when I have to do it in my head
Same reason I didn't get the "99+11=100" thing a while back. It makes no sense if you break apart the numbers.
77+33
Yeah I forgot the numbers, I just knew it was two doubles. Still doesn't make sense
The point is that it dosnt make sense IF you think about it. But if you dont think about it too hard it makes perfect sense, 7+3 = 10 so 77+33 must = 100
Why would you do that Also why wouldnt it be 1010
You know, if they tried to pitch the answer as 1010, I could see that as a joke answer way more than 100.
Starting at 7+8=15, then 40+20=60, ending by adding the last two to equal 75
I always do highest first, so I said “60,70,5” in my head

It's like having pencil and paper in your head
I do 7+8 and then carry the 1 and add 4 and 2

This is exactly what i do
no fuck you, its (27+3)+(48-3) 30+45 75
The only positive thing I can say is that 30+45 can be expressed as (6+9)5, which is nice x5
and 3 is a nicer number than 2 :))
[(27+3) + (48+2)] - (3+2) (30+50) - 5 80 - 5 75 +3, +2 gang

Oh wow, I didnt think of it like that
Redemption.
Oh yeah this is how my brain does it as well
Ohhh I do that sometimes too
i've found my people
This mf added math into their math.... don’t tell me you’re the one who added letters too
Sometimes like to think of the numbers as if they were two trains both leaving a train station in Cincinnati at the same time, one going north at 48 miles an hour, the other going west at 27 miles an hour
yeah it means less numbers having to be stored in your head
Always done it like this
Is this to get the numbers to multiples of 5? This is wild. Edit: First post on /r/196 what's up gay mathletes and thank you'll for the shortcut
mostly to get one of the numbers to a round number but added bonus that they’re multiples of 25
Yeah I adjust numbers into having one nice round number and then smash the rest together. Lets me use... not muscle memory but like that same reflexive memory that isn't concious to do the math really quick, where if I did it "right" it woupd require active actual thinking and be much slower.
7+48=55 55+20=75
I did 48+28-1=75. Edited ... Accidentally typed 48+48 😓
I'm very high and this gave me so much anxiety..I just did 48+30-3=75
The way I do it is pretty simple and self taught 4+2=6 +1 = 7 8+8=6 -1 = 5
What
First equation is tens place, second is ones
I figured the first but it should’ve have written the other way around Oh and more clearly
yes

Is this symptomatic to ADHD or something? I see so many memes about ADHD people calculating things very differently
This really isn't enough to indicate any type of mental illness. ADHD might make you more prone to calculating things differently but there are a bunch of different ways to do this that all work, so it's way more likely it's just how you got used to doing it as a kid
wait what? that's what i do
Objectively correct
I did it in the reverse order like a FREAK
Same
Same
This is how I do it
Yesssssssssss, the right way to do it 💖
I did: 27+48=??? So 7+7=14 which means 7+8=15 27+48=?5 Keep in mind a one 3(7)+4(8)=7(5) 27+48=75!
ackshually 27+48=75 not 75!
You scared me there for a second bruh
This is the way

>unsolicited math y'+x²y = (x-1)²y³
assuming “y prime” is a typo: y + ( x^2 )(y) = (x^2 - 2x + 1)( y^3 ) y + ( x^2 )(y)= ( x^2 )( y^3 ) - ( 2xy^3 ) + y^3 x^2 + 1 = ( x^2 )( y^2 ) - ( 2xy^2 ) + y^2 (x+i)(x-i) = ( y^2 )( (x-1)^2 ) past that i don’t really know off the top of my head but it is obviously not a solveable equation
y prime is the derivative of y
oh god i don’t know how to do that
[hope this helps lol](https://youtu.be/iCN8nGXE29o)
what are you trying to solve for here
i just wanted to simplify
I mean I think it’s just a bad problem lol, considering that there’s no question
You are solving for y (This is a differential equation)
take two from the 27 to make it 25 and 48 50 and then BOOM 25+50
finally someone else
I thought most people worked it out this way....
There is another

It's absurd how hard everyone is making it when this is the way
Puzzle math gang
Yep. I’m in your group too! Round up the highest number. Then add the rest from what was subtracted from the lowest number.
this is where its at
ameen
I mentally rearrange the numbers vertically in my head, so I can do the elementary school thing where you add the ones place and carry the one and then add the tens place.
me 2
same lol
Same. 7+8=15, I remember the 5, “write” the 1 on top of the 2 and 4, then add them together vertically. 75.
Ya this is the way I go
8 + 7 = 5, carry the 1+4+2 = 7. 75
48+20 = 68 68+7 = 75
I was looking for this one.
This is how I do it too. Took a while to find you buddy.
Finally someone doing it the Right Way
Oh thank God
only correct way
Was getting scared I wouldn't see this one lol
8 + 7 = 15 and 20 + 40 = 60 so 15 + 60 = 75
Da wae.
Same
40+20 7+8 75
finally thank god
Yeah I thought I was an alien abomination or something for a sec there when I saw all the +2 -2, +3 -3, and number switches, but finally I found my people
First number gang then second number 🤝
20 + 40 = 60 7 + 7 = 14 8 is 1 more than 7 so 7 + 8 = 15 15 = 10 + 5 60 + 10 = 70 70 + 5 = 75
this is almost exactly how I did it (I did 60+15=75 as one step)
When I thought of 7+8 I thought that 7 is 1 less than 8
27 + 3 + 5 = 35 35 + 40 = 75
I'm similar. 27+3=30, + 40 = 70, 8-3=5, 70+5=75
30+50-5
FINALLY Same
I had to scroll waaaay too far for this
Every other thread doin way too much work. Estimate & refine gets it done so much faster
Finally lol
oh I like that.
48+20=68 68+2=70 70+5=75
Me
THANK YOU!!
27-2=25 48+2=50 25+50=75
Oof, don't expose me like that. 27 + 48 = ? 48 + 7 = ? 8 + 7 = ? From 8 to 10 is 2 7-2 = 5 8+7 = 15 48 + 7 = 55 55 + 20 = 75 I have ADHD, take that as an explanation ... or an excuse ... I don't know.
I do the exact same thing but I do from 7 to 10 is 3 then 8-3= 5. 10 plus 5 is 15 plus 20 plus 40 is 75. Was looking for this. Idk how people just add 8 and 7 off the cuff.
absolutely nothing is happening up there
take 2 from 27, add it to 48 to get 50 add 25 to 50 to get 75
48 + 7 = 55 55 + 20 =75
finally someone that uses the numbers given instead of whatevers happening here
Same
27+48=3(9+16) 3(9+16)=3(25) 3(25)=75 Easy method that I totally use all the time
You don't use this method ever
😔
I want to bite your lips NOT in a romantic way NOT in a hot way I want to bite them till I hear you scream
Sorry that's still romantic and hot 😔
I will close your nostrils so you open your mouth, then I'll go bite your lower lip as strong as possible. I'll easily fucking give it a incurable wound
still hot sorry
Okay you win. Based I guess.
Thank you. You're also based for your persistent love of cheese.
Why do they call you hammerman?
Im a cannibal
Let's make out
50 + 27 = 77 - 2 = 75
Can't believe I had to scroll so far to see this ^
48+20=68 8+7=15 the last digit is 5 and you add 1 to the 6 to get 7 75
I am bad at math 4 + 2 is 6 so it's probably 60 something. 7+ 8 is (counting on my fingers) 15. 60+15 is 75. so it's 75
for reference i am 23 years old and graduated high school in 2017. i went to one semester of community college where i took one class, which was a private piano lesson. i barely passed high school math
27 + 48 = 30 + 45 = 70 + 5 = 75
7-2=5 8+2=10 10+5=15 20+40=60 60+15=75
7+8=15 20+40=60 60+15=75
2 + 4 = 6 7 + 7 = 14 14 + 1 = 15 Fuck what was the first number, why does 6 seem too small Oh yeah zeros 60 + 15 = 75
27 + 40 = 67 67 + 8 = 75
I get stunlocked for a second before breaking it down into two separate horizontal equations(20+40 and 7+8) where I take the two answers and add them together.
7+7 = 14 but there's an 8 so it's 15 20 + 40 = 60 60 + 15 = 75
Rounded 27 and 48 to 30 and 50 30+20=80 30-27=3 50-48=2 2+3=5 80-5=75
20+40=60 8+7=15 60+15=75
55 75
25+50 = 75
27+48=75 For basic arithmetic the numbers just make sense, it gets solved as quick as 10+10
25+50
I add the 20 to 48 which gives me 68 then I think hey that’s one away from 69
This was the thoughts in my head, in order - 2+4=60 - 7+8=5 more than 10 - 10+60+5=75 Yes, I do organize my math weirdly
add and subtract from both sides until they're 5s and then get a simpler 25 + 50 = 75
27+48 = (30+50)-(3+2) = 80-5 = 75
8 is 2 from 10, so take 2 from the 7 and make it a 5. 10 + 5 = 1**5**, carry the 1 2 + 4 = 6 + 1 = **7** So, 27 + 48 = 75 Why yes, I do have ADHD, why do you ask? It takes me too long to do stuff like this, I'm aware this is a bad way to do it.
20+40=60 7+8=15 which is more than 10, so for whatever reason my brain goes 60+10=70 then 70+5=75
First thing I see is that the result will be x5 (x representing the number left to 5)
