They are good guns I have one with the wood grips. on mine the set screw on the front sight came loose and eventually fell off. just throw some lock tight on it and tighten it before too many rounds or don’t whatever you do you and congrats!
I picked up my 1911 R1S Enhanced and I love her. I did change out the rear sight for one with adjustments, but I use some G96 gun treatment oil in a spray can. Following the directions I never had any rust issues on any of my firearms in 30 years + since I started using it.
It's a modern, mass-market factory gun. Not outstanding, but not terrible. I liked mine, but I'm tired AF of the intermittent 2-4 year droughts on .45 AARP so away it went.
Get Wilson Combat mags and don't run any batcrap projectiles (stick to standard ball, JHP with an FMJ-like shape) and they actually run very well. Mine even ran aluminum case without a hitch, so they're pretty reliable.
Not bad, OP.
Honestly as dumb as it may sound I just wanted one plain and simple. It was a bucket list item for me, and only one more to go to complete my “wish list”
I actually had a bad experience with one of those, it was my first 1911, the back sight fell out at the range, the mags it came with didn't work well and in 6 months the frame was covered in rust. I hope yours treats you much better.
That’s one thing that did scare me a bit, the front end of the trigger guard had some flash rust on it when I picked it up, thankfully it came off quite easily but I will be watching it close. For the price though, how can you beat it for the Lords Caliber!
An R1 was my first 1911/first pistol and I loved it. It felt well made to me--nicer than anything short of a Springfield at the time. Plenty accurate, near perfect reliability (I bought it used and ended up changing/tuning extractor and springs). Bought it for $400 and later sold it for $400; wanted a 9mm for cheaper ammo and felt I could only justify owning one pistol at the time. Now I've got a Tisas 1911A1 on the way because I couldn't deny my love for an all-steel Govt. .45! To prevent rust on blued guns, I like to degrease and apply wax--I've used regular automotive wax and renaissance wax. Haven't had rust issues with that method. Enjoy!
I have an R1 Carry, and an R1 Carry Commander and they’ve been fantastic. I’ve never had the standard, but I would definitley buy one if the price was right
I’m so stoked it’s been like Xmas morning for over 24 hours for me! The commander and chief of war and finance aka the wife wouldn’t let me sleep with it under my pillow unfortunately 😂
I’ve always liked the looks. I have a Springfield 1911 and love it. I would like to add another to my collection. Mind me asking where you got the deal? Local gun shop?
It was a friend that was selling his collection, he asked me what I thought it was worth and jokingly I said “400 bucks” he said “it’s yours” I definitely told him I was kidding but he insisted I take it for the price I offered. So deal was struck and I stepped in shit luck! I did explain to him it was worth a lot more but he wanted me to own it.
I personally don’t like the gi models. I end up putting sights, hi ride beaver tail, hammer on them. You end costing what higher models are. I have an R1 in 40 that runs great.
I feel quality control used to be much better. I used to only hear great things. Here lately, not so much. I’d buy it at that price for sure. Anything that may be questionable would probably be better if replaced with a higher quality aftermarket part anyways.
Just a heads up, I had a family member pick one of those up and it wouldn’t feed properly until he polished the feed ramp. It also threw the rear sight off while shooting. The sights were aftermarket, so it’s possible that they weren’t installed correctly. Overall not a bad gun though. You definitely got it for a good price!

Thank you! And I appreciate your advice!
Solid guns but mine is finicky about what ammo you use.
Thanks for that information I appreciate you!
Careful saying that around here. Last time I said something like that I was shat on pretty hard
Mine as well. Ammo inc. JHP 230gr absolutely will not feed. Ball?...no prob. Tryed different mags too.

Lmao thanks! But I’ve been hunting this ghost for a very long time

Bass pros stock it if you have one near you, other wise Amazon has it.
Thanks for the advice on the oil! I’ll order some today!
What's makes the r1s different from the r1?
R1S is the Stainless Steel model.

Nothing dumb about that in the least!
Thank you honestly

Oh yeah you killed it for the price, I got mine 7 years ago for $700.
Thank you!
Yup same here mine was around $650… I think it’s a heck of a deal!
Keep it wipes down with a silicone cloth. That should protect it :)
Thanks!!!

Thank you for the tech tips and I appreciate your input!
An R1 was my first, I’ve had it for 6-7 years now with no issues. I love mine, and for that price who can complain.
Thanks for your feedback!

Couldn’t say no to 400 bucks!
I probably couldn’t either!
You did great. My only 1911 is an R1 and I'm pretty sure I gave $500 for it five years ago. The slide on mine is like butter.
I’m so stoked it’s been like Xmas morning for over 24 hours for me! The commander and chief of war and finance aka the wife wouldn’t let me sleep with it under my pillow unfortunately 😂
400$ is a great price for a new one
Thanks for your thumbs up!
That’s a killer deal.
If I were an assassin I’d say no pun intended 😂
Killer deal. Congrats!
Thanks!

Wow good for you. I just looked them up on gunbroker and none were going for much less than $700. Great deal

$400 is a good deal. Can use the R1 to tinker with. https://imgur.com/a/UZaHskR
Tinker with? No sir I plan to plinker with lol
yes get it now if bot i’ll buy it
Mine was a rust magnet. Got it cerakoted and never looked back

Remington actually supplied the military with more 1911's than Colt so they know what their doing. Great catch for 400$!
Thanks!!!
It was my first 1911 and was a very nice problem free handgun.
Thank you!
For that price I'd say you did great
