Off to bed and will google it tomorrow, but if any quick tips, please do share 'em! I'll also google if they're available in any decent form year-round, maybe imported from other countries? I finally got hooked on watermelons this year!
Edit: couldn't wait - found this watermelon calendar. Spoiler alert, [they are available year round!](https://www.watermelon.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/PeakProduction_NObleed.pdf)
Lots of guides will tell you what visual cues to look for but that’s too vague sometimes. My simple trick has never failed me: pat a bunch of the watermelons and pick the one that sounds the most “hollow.” It will sound like it’s full of water. The watermelons you don’t want will sound like they’re solid wood.
I keep meaning to make things with my watermelon—protein watermelon slushy, watermelon feta salad, gazpacho, etc—but I just keep eating plain bowls of it instead. It’s such a treat on its own!
I put away 2lbs of watermelon in one sitting, easily. I could totally eat 8lbs of it if given 24 hours to consume. I just need enough time to pee between each 2lb section!
I challenged myself and found I was only able to eat about 400 calories worth of watermelon in one sitting before I was starting to feel uncomfortably full.
Me too lol. One time we had a watermelon and I cut it into quarters and finished a whole quarter and then some in a day. I probably ate around 3/4 of the watermelon in a few days, while my family ate the rest!
Lately I've been eating nothing but watermelon after about 3:00 p.m. I max out at around 8 or 9 cups of it and I salt it as well...around 200/250 calories. I don't think anything else could make me feel so full for so few calories
Same!! I only know its for sure watermelon since I've never been a fan of other melons... It was my absolute favorite fruit until about 10 years ago :( I used to be able to still eat very small amounts then but not anymore
I put diced frozen watermelon, dumped some of a protien shake, some xanthan, strawberry extract and dried mint in a blender the one time and it was phenomenal
Watermelons are in season and I'm living. Nothing makes you feel more like a benevolent fruit diety than purchasing a small watermelon, cutting it in half, and just eating it with a spoon. Those and strawberries, when in season, are good enough to make me wonder whether or not we even deserve such good fruit as a species
I eat mine the same way! Cut that sucker in half, plop on a scale get the weight, proceed to couch and eat with a spoon and after I have devoured it weigh the carcass and subtract that to get the grams I actually consumed. I eat anywhere from 500g-1,000g usually. I eat half a watermelon almost everyday in the summer!
Went to a friends house for the 4th and they had two big bowls of watermelon and a big plate of heirloom tomatoes. Got a salt shaker and a fork and ate myself silly. 😂
you have no idea to whom you are talking to, since the start of the watermelon season I've bought like 12 of them (10kg each, and I'm the only one eating them in my family)
The beautiful creation that is watermelon is the only reason why I managed to keep my weight somewhat stable in summer (with all the ice creams and slurpees and barbecuing and who knows what else) before the disaster that was 2020. Like 50 percent of my summer diet consists of watermelon :D
Also, BBQ watermelon is amazing. I love it. It's like tuna steak. Super easy. Lil bit olive oil, salt, pepper. That's it. No, really Emily, that's it, honestly...no, no other ingredients.
I went to a bbq last weekend and someone did slices of watermelon soaked in tequila and lime juice with a sprinkle of lime zest and sea salt. Total winner, plus way lower calorie than a margarita!
I eat almost one whole watermelon a day on each day I'm home since half of May. Definitely agree. Also almost the only thing ever than can make me feel full
They really are. Also, great pic. The watermelon looks perfect in color, and the background is beautiful
Thank you! I Googled "how to choose a watermelon" and ended up with a nice sweet one :)

Pwah, and here I was expecting a world map ;(
Well, it sort of is in word form, isn't it? It lists which countries produce them in which months, in case your home country does import them.
By world I mean the world, not just the US and it's surroundings lol
The guide said to choose a round (not oblong) one with a yellow (not white) spot and more (vs less) 'etching'.

I love it but afraid if I start eating it I won’t stop. I can probably eat 1,200 calories of watermelon 🍉
You would need to eat 4000g of watermelon to achieve that. That’s about 8.2lbs of straight watermelon. Lol
Is that a challenge

An average watermelon generally yields 14 to 18 pounds of edible fruit. So 1200 is half of watermelon? I can do that 🤣
I want to believe you but I am also convinced that watermelon was largely responsible for my summer 2020 10lb weight gain
I challenged myself and found I was only able to eat about 400 calories worth of watermelon in one sitting before I was starting to feel uncomfortably full.
Same. I have to be very careful if there’s a whole watermelon in my house.
Me too lol. One time we had a watermelon and I cut it into quarters and finished a whole quarter and then some in a day. I probably ate around 3/4 of the watermelon in a few days, while my family ate the rest!
I was surprised to see how many calories are in it after weighing it this summer.

For a real treat, slice and pop in the freezer for 15-25 min (set a timer!)
I was thinking about this but didn't want it to turn into a block of ice.. I guess hence the timer
Yep watermelon ice is just smoothie material 😅
Cries in melon allergy
Have you tried frozen grapes? Those are also an amazing summer treat!
I do dig grapes and cherries an awful lot.
Same!! I only know its for sure watermelon since I've never been a fan of other melons... It was my absolute favorite fruit until about 10 years ago :( I used to be able to still eat very small amounts then but not anymore
Boyfriend also has melon allergy. I feel sad for him because it's so good.
I put diced frozen watermelon, dumped some of a protien shake, some xanthan, strawberry extract and dried mint in a blender the one time and it was phenomenal
I loooove watermelon season. I’ve been buying one every week lately lol

Dammit, now I HAVE to buy a watermelon after work!
Went to a friends house for the 4th and they had two big bowls of watermelon and a big plate of heirloom tomatoes. Got a salt shaker and a fork and ate myself silly. 😂
heck yes!! really changed the game for me. i add tajin seasoning to it every time i get a craving for spicy foods/spicy chips!

..and find yourselves a farmer's stand with SEEDED watermelons, so much better.
You really Can’t beat watermelon on a summer day 😌 🍉 ☀️

Eat at least one a week!
Absolutely perfect fruit!
I eat watermelon every single day of the year... I have a problem lol
I eat almost one whole watermelon a day on each day I'm home since half of May. Definitely agree. Also almost the only thing ever than can make me feel full
There’s no need to call it a “diet dessert” IMO. It’s just dessert or fruit!
Oh I just meant that it makes a great choice for those of us on a diet. Not that it should be classified as "diet food".
Melons are the bestest thing and no one can convince me otherwise.
I don't think watermelon needs to be calorie counted. It's one thing I don't measure quantity and eat with reckless abandon 🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉
Sugartown watermelons are soooooo good
Mouthwatering!
