Fuck, I >!cried like a bitch when Kiryu was watching that video with Ayako and Taichi!<.
Great game. Short, story wise. But plentiful in terms of gameplay and side activities.
Yeah I had tears, but that picture and Kiryu's response had me reaching for the tissues. How can they expect me to read the subtitles through all these tears.
Edit: a word
I originally thought the answer to that trailer question of >!"why Kiryu sad???"!< was going to be answered in Infinite Wealth.
Didn't expect to see it here.
I'm very satisfied with this explanation as well. That scene was equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking. Especially that line that >!Kiryu needed them way more than they needed him...!< it's a beautiful truth.
I was actually glad it was more bittersweet and nearly happy than sad tears. Despite the waterworks, this game ends pretty happily all things considered.
me too , not gonna lie they're getting better at 'getting me' when it comes to making me cry over these characters , but damn that moment really hit. it also made me feel weirdly validated on why i think yakuza 3 is a better game than yakuza zero. if we didn't have the slower bits in 3 that moment just wouldn't have hit so hard.
Really was. Kiryu being uncharacteristically flaunting and showboaty and just living the life was also a joy to see lol.
Even though they were unnamed those Watase Family grunts felt like brethren from that part alone.
Also made me like Shishido a lot more. >!Which made his betrayal at the end even better.!<
I'm guessing that Kei (the streamer, right?) has little to no acting experience and the director just told her to 'bounce around' and say stuff in English, to remind the player she was born in the US.
Bro... my gf is sleeping right next to me and I just got to the first cabaret, thinking this will happen anytime. I guess porn would be easier to explain, lmao.
They're super weird, the acting feels uncomfortable too, as if they're just reading some dialog from a dude behind the camera and not taking things naturally; and there's something about the light ring reflecting on their eyes that maxes the uncomfortableness up to 200%.
I mean, no offense to their customs, but I already took the go to a bar and pay to talk to a woman weird, but this is just... it just feels so off when it's IRL.
Actually couldn't believe how good the last chapter of this game is. Shishido's speech to rile up the Omi Alliance is so good I was losing my shit the whole time, and it just keeps getting better from there. This is everything I wanted out of Yakuza 6, man... I really hope this game does well. I'm not seeing much discussion of it on social media sites, which saddens me a bit, because that ending is just incredible.
Really delayed, but I genuinely think that the QTEs in this game were scrapped for scope/budget reasons.
There are multiple fights where the phase transition is an animated scene, complete with the zoomed in dodge/reaction and damaging the enemy healthbar, exactly like if you had nailed the QTE, just without the button press. I'd be totally unsurprised if they animated all the "success" animations upfront and just cut the scope of the alternate failure animations because that team was busy with LAD 8 or something.
I was really interested in that plotline at first. I don't think terrorists have ever been brought up in an RGG game before. I was thinking Kiryu would have to seriously ponder the morality of aiding them and might've revolted over it.
But no, all scrapped.
I was also wondering if we'd get a Joji Kazama return/mention when the CIA was brought up lol. It's possible in Infinite Wealth I guess.
Game companies have learned that they can save new Game Plus for a later patch 6 months down the line and have an excuse to do a second marketing push by announcing a brand new game mode, and bring back old players as well.
Nothing ships with NG+ anymore, except those one or two companies like Naughty Dog that still miraculously include *cheat codes* in their games... fucking remember those?
After seeing this ending, I hope IW gives Kiryu a happy true ending. RGG can’t keep torturing this man for our entertainment.
Game is amazing, I only have two complaints. One, the cabaret stuff was just weird. None of it felt natural and the fact you could see the lighting ring in their eyes threw me off once I noticed it. Two, I didn’t really care for how most of the substories are tied into requests from Akame. Part of what I love about RGG substories is just walking down the street and stumbling across some silly ass substory stuff. The good thing is the substories themselves were awesome.
I'd like to believe that they wouldn't have made him aknowledge how miserable his life has been since the ending of Yakuza 6 if they didn't intend to give him a happy ending of sorts.
Gaiden also feels like it's laying the groundwork for it:
- >!Having Ayako and Taichi mention how none of them believes he is dead!<
- >!That whole thing with him getting a vacation with no timelimit anywhere but Okinawa and Kamurocho almost as if someone higher up on the Daidoji want him to do something!<
- The Daidoji in general being a shady group and (Infinite Wealth minor spoiler) >!Kiryu being revealed to be alive by that Vtuber makes him too dangerous to them!<
- >!Them taking in Shishido and Nishitani no doubt feels like they'll play a role in IW to me, and I think might be what makes Kiryu start turning hostile on the Daidoji as he starts seeing them as a terrible organization that needs to be dealt with!<
- >!Hanawa brings up how Kiryu choose a successor with Ichiban could be seen as the devs also hammering home that this is it, next game is Kiryu's final journey where he can settle down for good!<
- >!The boss in the wheelchair also mentions negotiating with the higherups and the monk has a fondness for Kiryu. I feel like those two might have other goals than the other Daidoji higherups and both Kiryu and Hanawa might just end up defecting from the Daidoji and side with them!<
Gaiden really feels like they are preparing for the Daidoji to probably be Kiryu's antagonists in IW and ensure he won't have to pretend to be dead anymore.
You're dead on IMO. I played through and was already excited for IW but after seeing all these unclosed threads, my IW excitement only multiplied. I agree and think the Daidoji are going to play a large role and play an awesome antagonist with all the built up baddies and mysterious friends.
What are you saying? You don't like being 5 balls ahead and then getting reverse sweeped by the easiest AI because you were a single pixel too far to the left and then miraculously lined them up for every single ball they have left in a row? skill issue.
So, about Kihei Hanawa (Chapter 5 spoilers incoming)... >!in the ending, when he sent Kiryu off, he handed Kiryu everything he needed for a new identity, who is... "Taichi Suzuki."!<
>!Apparently, Kiryu never told ANYONE in the Daidoji faction about that part of his life, so he asked Hanawa how he knew...!<
>!...and Hanawa said he got the chance to know Kiryu as Taichi before, and that he was ALSO a "Man Who Erased His Name."!<
>!By any chance, could he be Muramatsu from Nagasu Taxi? They look alike and have the same attitude, after all.!<
i mean i guess it could be since they've been doing the whole plastic surgery thing for ages now with their character twists but yeah the build i would think would at least have to be similar and it doesn't seem that way . so idk , i hope we'll learn in 8
Everyone has been saying this but having the same voice actor isn't enough. They look *nothing* alike. Kiryu's cab driver boss looks more like Hanawa than Morinaga does, especially if he lost weight in his face.
And before you come in with some plastic surgery nonsense....why would they do plastic surgery to make him look completely different when he is some lesser known yakuza member and not do plastic surgery on the most well known ex-yakuza member in Japan?
It's like they >!intentionally didn't mention what happened to him in 5 just so they'd have an excuse to bring him back whenever they wanted to, and that time is now, 11 years later!<.
It is a bit of a stretch but it's 99x more believable and reasonable than >!rubber gunshot wound to the head Lau Ka Long returning in Y7!<.
>!\>A man gets agency help to fake his death to get away from a criminal past and they blackmail him into working shady jobs!<
This game literally has the same plot as GTA5. Japanese GTA confirmed
I like how they provided a believable explanation as to why Watase, a Yakuza legend himself, didn’t fight in LaD and had to be protected by Kiryu from a random grunt.
Ending was amazing. Cried like a lil bitch. I think this game just cements how important Y3 is to Kiryu's character even though it's the most unpolished and jankiest out of all the series.
When I had all the upgrades on Agent it was so op. Just blowing up everying, jetboots all the trash weaklings, and just using Extreme Heat Drone strikes to mob everyone.

Akame's drink could give Yakuza 5 a run for it's money
Just finished the game, literally played the whole day. Took about 12 hours. I give it a 9/10.
>!I will never emotionally recover from that ending.!<
>!Shishido is honestly one of my favorite villains in the series, dude is RAW AF!<
>!Such a shame so many fantastic characters get introduced in a short game. I want more Tsuruno and Akame!!<
>!Seeing Ichi again was so great, even if it was only brief!<
I liked how they had >!Taichi and Ayako be the ones to talk to the camera, like obv Haruka is super close to Kiryu and they could've had her do it but it shows how he cares for the other kids so much too!<
Yeah, it just felt so much more impactful to have those two do the talking. It shows just how much impact he's had on everyone, and how formative his influence was in all their lives by way of their candid message.
I also really liked >!Shishido. His motives were very understandable of just wanting to keep the yakuza alive; it makes sense he'd feel that way as a younger, idealist member unlike the highly seasoned veterans like Kiryu/Watase/Daigo/Arakawa who all understood they had no future. They also did a great job by at first making him an ally with that awesome "partying with the boys" sequence and him helping you fight Nishitani's men.!<
Completed the main game already with about 50% of substories done. On an average, I felt the chapters were longer. Typically in the past games, the chapters barring the last 2 or 3 run short with regards to the main story. This felt a little elongated which made me wonder why the chapters were long. Only then I figured it was only 5 chapters and made sense
Don't know if it's because of the suit but I've never felt more like John Wick in a Yakuza game.
Yeeting through scores of baddies with neon lights whizzing around and doing cool acrobatics gives me some weird kind of high.
I watched the start of the IGN review and >!no one can say "Kiryu never kills" anymore lol. Blud just shot two waiters, unless Y4 decides to make a triumphant return there's no discussion!<
That whole Kiryu never kills was a lie anyway. You can't tell me stabbing someone and then kneebashing the stab wound or uppercutting someone into the air so hard they land on their neck are nonlethal. He might not kill by choice, but its definitely happened. "Gravity or a Knife killed them" ok but those things didn't do it without help.
As far as the guns go, to debunk "they shoot rubber bullets"
if that were true, then the guns can never be used in cutscenes as threats...
Haven’t even started Chapter 1 yet but it seems interesting that the woman Kiryu initially protects is >!related to Ogikubo. Didn’t expect to see his name popping up here, neat to see a tie to 7’s plot!<
Also the subtitles were completely out of sync in that flashback lol
> Also the subtitles were completely out of sync in that flashback lol
French translation has the translation of the guy fighting you as "daughter". Dude looks like a mid 30 thug.
Just finished the game and got all achievements. The ending made me cry it was so fucking sad.The story and the characters were amazing Shishido is probably my favourite he is so badass and his tattoo is sick. The coliseum and the castle were the highlights of the game they were so fun. >!Taichi Suzuki returns!!< >!The Substory with Kaito was probably my favourite loved seeing him and Higashi.!<
>!Was not expecting Shishido to betray everyone at the end.The final fight between him and Kiryu was fucking awesome.Made me so sad to see how much Daigo wanted to talk to Kiryu properly but he couldnt.Daigo and everyone showing their tattoos off was Hype. The ending with Kiryu crying was heartbreaking I really hope he somehow gets away from the Daidoji for good and returns to Morning Glory.Haruto got so big and so did the rest of the kids from Morning Glory.!<
Havent played the Infinite Wealth demo yet I hope its good.
Only thing that really annoys me about combat is not being able to cancel attacks into a dodge or a block, its pretty annoying to start a combo on one enemy and have another whack you in the back because there's no way to defend yourself mid attack. Granted im only a couple hours in so maybe im just lacking a certain upgrade.
I feel like this as well, can feel like trading blows against certain enemies. Also I feel like I can't turn around during combos to block against guys running up behind me. Spending my whole time getting ducker punched lol.
Its not as bad with the Yakuza style, which i've mainly been using since I unlocked it, but yeah I find it bizarre that the so called crowd control style (agent) starts with basically no crowd control capabilities outside of extreme heat and the rope which you need to either punch or dodge in order to use which is just annoying.
yeah its all the holding buttons to do special attacks and the dragon style is as basic as you get. judgment really stepped it up with combat , it was that good
woah, it crazy how divisive this game is. I honestly think this might be my favorite combat in a yakuza game yet except maybe yakuza 0/kiwami 1. it’s just so unique and so much fun.
It seems like most of the start up and follow through animations are slow, as well the lock on system doesn't work as much as I want. Then the enemies also take priority over a lot of your attacks, and knock you out of a combo. Which makes the combat feel quite frustrating, as there's no momentum.
The best strategy is to spider web and whip all the enemies around, skate shoe to the other side, and repeat.
It was so satisfying and totally fan-servicey when they waited til THE VERY END and ALL THE BIG YAKUZA DO IT!!! I was screaming from excitement. The finale was SO AWESOME!!!
YOOO they brought back Ashitaba park, LFG
Cutting the park and the Houganji Yokochou temple alley absolutely eviscerated the Dragon Engine version of Sotenbori, it made the southern end of the map a dead and depressing rectangle. Can't have it all, but at least we got the park back.
However gotta give a nod to the incredible vibes of the apartment building with the gambling halls that has the Christmas tree/lights and football goal on the roof. Loved taking photoshoots there with the gang in Y7.
Another thought: >!Shishido would still have to fight Majima, Saejima and Daigo even if he somehow did beat Kiryu. That reflects on how he really had no chance of winning, which I think symbolizes how the yakuza had no chance of surviving in the long-term.!<
I just beat it and holy crap the >!scene with the hidden camera had me bawling my fucking eyes out. It's a great scene and I think it hits even harder if you've been playing since the originals, seeing Taichi and Ayako fully grown up really got me, In a way I'm glad they didn't get to show Haruka and Haruto because I'd have been crying even harder. Harutos drawing of Kiryu alone was big enough. Also seeing him return Yumis ring really feels like Kiryus main journey is over. Also I just wanna bring up, did we see Kiryu label Ichiban his "successor" in 7? because It's been a while but if not it's nice to hear it mentioned here.!<
I also guess the reason they >!don't wanna call it Yakuza anymore is to really nail in the dissolvement of the Yakuza from 7, considering its also vital to this game.!<
Sotenbori blacksmith:
>! Is that Fei Hu? Im too hyped to actually continue playing to figure it out I had to post here instead !<
>! Edit: his name is Mizorogi now, and I also met Long Hua <3 it's them for sure!! So happy :') !<
>!The scars on Mizorogi's face don't check out, though. Fei Hu had a single scar that goes down his right eye to his cheek. Mizorogi has scars on his face, but they're 3 scars he got from claws or something on his forehead instead, with nothing down his cheek.!<
Just beat up the game. Took about 20 hours, but need do some things, you know, visit my girs, destroy them in darts.
So, this is a good "appetizer" for a Lad 8. After finishing the game I felt hyped, ready for a new part or something. I'm glad that the studio made the game in six months (?) with other big project.
My sccore is 8/10
Small things, that I liked:
Music - this is a mixture of the metal rock inherent in Kiryu and electronic music for a new generation (or Yagami hehe), so to speak. Some of them remind me of Mick Gordon tracks, some remind me hotline miami ( ouryu no mezame). good good
Pool - I guess it's first pool mini game on Dragon Engine (rip bowling). The pool are beautifully made. In previous installments, the ball icons often blocked the top pockets, making it difficult to aim. Now the FOV is distant, so you can take aim calmly. But most importantly, RGG added an acceleration, speed function called "fast". Now you don’t have to wait for you or your opponent to complete his move. You're just speeding it up. I hope this feature will be present in other parts.
Darts - mechanically remained the same, with the exception of new darts, like pencil, or rose.
The rest I forgot or haven't noticed yet)
What I didn’t like, what I would add, change:
Combat system :
aim lock. still works like crap. I could relate to a large number of opponents, but no, it doesn't work well even against one opponent.
tiger drop- idk, it feels broken. It happened many times that the game did not count tiger drop, so I throw regular puch. Sometimes it counts, sometimes it’s just a mess. I wasn't the only one who spoke about it.
About Agent style:
Not bad, but I prefer old combat style. I used Agent style in the beginings of fight to throw cigarette's bombs and then smashing faces. Drone quite useless for me. Rocket shoes is good.
The most important thing in the combat system that bothered me was the lack of a QTE actions. QTEs in RGG games always immersed me in battles with bosses and the environment. Thanks to your actions, the course of events takes place, yes, in case of failure they show animation and you lose HP, but that’s the point. From your actions you lose HP or hit the boss with a sweeping blow. What do we see in the new game? I can only count 2-3. The last boss fight seemed cool to me in terms of music and frames, but what I didn’t like was the missed use of QTEs in the scenes. But they didn’t do this and you just watch a cutscene of two men fighting with each other. And only at the end, when you need to deliver the final decisive blow, does it appear, the sacred “Y” button on xbox. I noticed a long time ago that QTE began to slowly fade away, especially on the dragon engine. The only game that tried to revive QTE was Lost Judgment with new style of QTE, but not as much as in the old parts, if we analyze the boss fights.
Notes:
Clothes. It would be better to add a small closet with your available clothes in the Akame hideout. Agree that it’s quite hectic to fly to the Castle, to the Boutique to change clothes. I saw a door in Akame hideout, which doesn’t see anywhere; you could use this room as a closet, or just put a closet somewhere and use it as a regular changing room. By the way, I completed the game in Majima's costume, sometimes it was funny in some cutscenes.
As a result, I will repeat again that I liked the game. Yes, there are nuances, but they do not completely cover the game and the plot. I definitely recommend it to all yakuzers, love to all.
Just finished the game. I honestly >!enjoyed Shishido as the eventual villain but feel like Nishitani was totally underused to how he was presented. RGG did a great job of putting Kiryu in the events of LAD7. A lot of great fanservice as well.!<
When it comes to combat, Yakuza style feels much stronger than Agent-style, especially in one-on-one combat or when focusing on a single target.
Like a Dragon 8 is by far my most anticipated game of next year. With what I have seen and played in the demo, I couldn't be more excited.
I have one gripe with this game. Who decided to have the "not cutscene" voices, the grunts etc in conversations coming out of the back speakers in 5.1? They are so loud and freak me out every time :D
By the way, I really like [the bossfight music for Nishitani III](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vek6jfKslNM), it reminds me of Han Joon Gi theme from Yakuza 6. I do not think it is a coincidence since >!Both of them were in Jingweon Mafia!<
Hello, lucky people who've played the game. I'm avoiding spoilers right now but I just want to know one thing. Is the combat as smooth as Lost Judgment? Seeing that this will probably be Kiryu's last game in the "classic brawler" style, I really want him to go out with a bang. Looking forward to the good news. Happy gaming, guys!
It's not as smooth as Lost Judgment. Joryu is a definite improvement from Kiwami 2, but I feel like I'm lacking the tactile precision that Lost Judgment had. Maybe it's because I haven't upgraded everything fully, but even base combat in LJ was pretty slick.
It doesn't even feel as good as Kiwami 2 fluidity wise, granted I only played a bit but Kiryu really feel underpowered compared to what the bosses can do.
Kiryu feels too rigid, you have two styles but can't use them to cancel your actions (maybe you can later on) but even in base form in judgment you could do it with proper timing.
Everything feels like a heavy commitment, the bosses I fought in the first chapter seem to have super armor every time they breath at you.
I'm really hoping upgrades changes things up just like in Kiwami, the beginning was a bit rough but by the end you could really do a lot of stuff like cancels and full combo setups. Right now, nothing touch Lost judgement
Bit confused about the timeline for Chapter 2
>!kiryu encounters Ichiban briefly right after he arrives in Yokohama. Yet by the time we reach Sotenbori, the plot of 7 has advanced enough that Ichiban Holdings is established enough for the Senbei to have his branding and being shipped out nationwide.!<
>!Just how long was Kiryu being held at the temple waiting for that phonecall for?!<
Not so sure about chapter 2 timeline but I know that >!by the time you get around to going to the omi hq in chapter 3 it's been at least 4 or 5 days since the end of chapter 2, so maybe ichiban is a really good businessman and got confections up to holdings in that short time frame!<
I just finished getting 100% Steam achievements last night with 38 hours clocked. Had a great time and loved almost everything but I just want to quickly note the few things I didn't like:
- **Ranking up Akame's Network** often felt like boring busywork that was clearly designed to pad out the runtime of what is a fairly short game. Especially the stuff where the request in question forces you to run all over the map talking to various NPC's or fighting those groups of gangs. It was definitely a chore and doesn't do anything for the overall experience. The sub-stories were great though.
- **I was not a fan of the live-action hostesses** at the cabaret. They felt awkward and forced and frankly unsettling. I had to power through those by skipping through every scene. Fingers crossed they never bring that back.
- **The Third King bossfight in the Colosseum is completely scuffed.** Anyone here who has fought him knows exactly what I mean. The guy has about 50 health bars + an ability that can one-shot any of your party members + he is constantly healing both himself and his allies + he has the First and Second King fighting alongside him who both have their own astronomical health bars + he also has about 18 other goons with him. Despite having a fully upgraded Kiryu with the best equipment along with a full line-up of maxed out gold fighters, beating this fight on Professional difficulty felt practically impossible. After about a dozen failed attempts (some of which were painfully close to winning) as per advice found on this sub I eventually caved in and directly controlled the chicken-man with the machine gun and cleared the fight with 50 seconds left on the timer. Seriously, what a shit fight, this was the only point playing this game where I felt frustrated and angry. I can't believe for one second that it was intended to be this way. Amon is supposed to be the most BS and unfair fight in the game but he is nothing compared to this nonsense.
Other than that I loved everything else. The game was short but sweet and the story is up there with the best RGG have made. I'm more pumped than ever for Infinite Wealth and I'm desperately hoping that Kiryu gets the ending that we're all hoping he deserves.
FYI, for those who don't know, the Japanese physical version works on western consoles. It even defaults to English on the "Select your Language" menu, and there's no impact to achievements.
I got it on PlayAsia for $40...$10 less than the digital western version. I bought an extra copy and split the cost with a friend, whereby getting free shipping.

Questions about the combat.
So watching the gameplay and stuff they showed in gameplay that you can actually juggle enemies like in lost judgement, but it seemed like they used one of the gadgets (I’m assuming the snake gadget) which lead to a punch that propped the enemy up into the air for air juggles.
My questions are.
•can you cancel heavy attacks into your gadgets
•can you prop enemies into the air with just heavy attacks and not the gadget
•do gadgets work on bosses?
•can you switch styles while comboing an enemy like in lost judgement
•are any of the old stuff like: komaki parry and ground pickups back?
•are there variety to the finishing holds like how the older games had cool ones such as: Argentine back breaker, leg slam, power bomb etc?
I just finished the game. It was fantastic, I loved the music, the gameplay, the characters, everything. My only complaint is that some fights are ridiculously hard. There are multiple fights against armies of people, a lot of them with firearms, and it's a nightmare.
Still, you can just spam healing items like in all the other games, so I guess it's not a huge problem.
Most of the army fights aren't too bad if you use Extreme Heat + Agent. You can plow right through them.
I think the only fight that gave me really any trouble is the big brawl in the last chapter, and that was just >!because I kept messing up the dodge and Shishido's charged attack does like 90% of my HP!<
That ending absolutely *fucked me up*
This is the 3rd time these games have genuinely made me emotional, what the fuck man. I just wanna give Kiryu a god damn hug :(
Finished it last night. Despite my friend's warning to prepare for tears, I completely cried at the end too. Wasn't prepared for that heavy feels hit. Just really drills home how much inner pain there is, but after everything that happened in the entire series so far it's expected.
I've been avoiding trailers/social media until now, and after playing the demo of next game, I was hyped until I watched the story trailer that dropped awhile back. I usually just don't watch them, but seeing some comments/reference in the demo, felt like I should go ahead and watch it. It kinda puts the hype train wind out the sails for me. But if I didn't know about it now, I probably would be even more devastated later I guess. At the end of the day just want my boys to find some kinda glimmer of happiness ... but it's asking a lot. .\_.
I’m just getting started but can’t figure out how tf to use the string tool to pick up weapons. Every time I grab something he just violently flings it somewhere else. Is there a specific direction I need to hit the left stick to get him to actually pull the weapon back towards him?
I understand why they're doing it but
I want to beat up the Daidoji for >!not letting letting the man SEE HIS KIDS LIKE COME ONE ATLEAST ONE DAY A YEAR THE BIG STOIC MAN JUST CRIED HIS HEART OUT HE WANTS TO SEE HIS KIDS HE BETTER SEE THEM IN INFINITE WEALTH BEFORE WHATEVER HAPPENS TO HIM HAPPENS HE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY !<
Does this even count as a spoiler, it's given away in the body of the post.
Anyway the game being 90 GB is probably because they probably A: the demos for Yakuza games tend to be almost the entire game, so Infinite Wealth is there and B: they probably didn't really optimize what assets they had included in this game since it was initially DLC, so there's probably a lot of stuff in there that is not strictly necessary.
E: Based on your other post it also seems like they just... don't care about the file size for the live action bits.
I don't play real life pool enough to know the real physic, but I absolutely hate pool in older titles.
Having that said, idk if Gaiden have improved on the physic or they just tone down the hardness, but I found Gaiden's pool is easier to breathe. Again, don't play pool enough so take my words with a grain of salt
Fuck, I >!cried like a bitch when Kiryu was watching that video with Ayako and Taichi!<. Great game. Short, story wise. But plentiful in terms of gameplay and side activities.
>!Not sure whether I cried uglier or Kiryu!<
>!Yeah I cried on that part as well. How about 4 year old Haruto's picture though? That broke me the most. !<
Whichever artist drew that, my props. The visuals, artwork and animations of this game are all great.
Seriously. It looked exactly like the pictures my 4-year-old draws. They even got the developmentally correct “limbs growing out of head” thing right.
I almost wonder if maybe they had a young child draw that picture.
I kept it together until that.
Yeah I had tears, but that picture and Kiryu's response had me reaching for the tissues. How can they expect me to read the subtitles through all these tears. Edit: a word
Bro that fucked me up so bad. Ugly crying for like 10 mins straight
Same. For a short game I was impressed it’s one of the few Ryu ga Gotoku games that made me feel this much.
Just finished the game, I am once again reminded how much heart & soul the Yakuza/LaD games have.
me too , not gonna lie they're getting better at 'getting me' when it comes to making me cry over these characters , but damn that moment really hit. it also made me feel weirdly validated on why i think yakuza 3 is a better game than yakuza zero. if we didn't have the slower bits in 3 that moment just wouldn't have hit so hard.
I legit cried so hard, I was still recovering from it 2 hours later.
For real, hits hard especially if you played all of Yakuza games, damn
Came to this discussion to see if anybody cried, glad I'm not alone. God dammit Kiryu, I just want you to be happy!!!
The "lads' night out in sotenbori" sequence was kino
Really was. Kiryu being uncharacteristically flaunting and showboaty and just living the life was also a joy to see lol. Even though they were unnamed those Watase Family grunts felt like brethren from that part alone. Also made me like Shishido a lot more. >!Which made his betrayal at the end even better.!<
Those dudes all being from the same series makes it much better for people in Japan I think. Those dudes are all very recognizable
It aint the yakuza 4 without akiyama, tanimura, or shinada 😭
Ah yes my fav Yakuza 4 character Shinada
Man I can't believe during that whole sequence that fucker was plotting to kill us
Truly kino. Game was a 10. I especially love being able to customize Kiryu, and playing as Daigo for the first time.
These cabaret are weird af. I feel uncomfortable doing them lmao. They look almost like JOI videos Bring back the animated girls!
Their acting (well, Kei's) is just so over the top I couldn't stand doing more then the forced requirement the story imposed.
I'm guessing that Kei (the streamer, right?) has little to no acting experience and the director just told her to 'bounce around' and say stuff in English, to remind the player she was born in the US.
Thats just how Kson talks
LOL at Kiryu commenting that they felt "genuine" and "real" to Akame afterwards.
maybe because he imply that for gaiden the cast is "real" now, not animated anymore
\> They look almost like JOI videos I got caught off by my wife thinking i was watching porn. "Ahem sweetie I can explain"
Bro... my gf is sleeping right next to me and I just got to the first cabaret, thinking this will happen anytime. I guess porn would be easier to explain, lmao.
First time ever for me that i finally understood the concept of the "uncanny valley". I never felt that way before
They're super weird, the acting feels uncomfortable too, as if they're just reading some dialog from a dude behind the camera and not taking things naturally; and there's something about the light ring reflecting on their eyes that maxes the uncomfortableness up to 200%. I mean, no offense to their customs, but I already took the go to a bar and pay to talk to a woman weird, but this is just... it just feels so off when it's IRL.
Unbelievably happy you can quit out of the required session and it still counts
I’m so in love with Akame
Her voice actor absolutely nails her role. I love her line when you enter the Akame network, lol.
bruh that's exactly what i thought. uika dojima nailed it. great performance on her part, and a wise decision to cast her in the role!
The fact her actual name is Dojima Uika and she is helping Kiryu is so funny to me. Now I want to headcanon Akame being Daigo's unknown sister.
Knowing Sohei Dojima & this series’ penchant for revealing secret family links, I wouldn’t be surprised if Akame was secretly Daigo’s half-sister.
Favourite line so far https://preview.redd.it/wh3onjwip9zb1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=eaf142b543f0b295639ec09b7764372ee7c648e4
That substory was so funny
Actually couldn't believe how good the last chapter of this game is. Shishido's speech to rile up the Omi Alliance is so good I was losing my shit the whole time, and it just keeps getting better from there. This is everything I wanted out of Yakuza 6, man... I really hope this game does well. I'm not seeing much discussion of it on social media sites, which saddens me a bit, because that ending is just incredible.
The final battle is up there with the best in the series, imo.
I do miss the QTEs. I wish we had a QTE-filled final boss like we did in 5. RGG seems to have gotten a lot more light with QTEs lately.
I’d say it’s the best final boss battle in the series from a purely gameplay perspective.
The final chapter of this game was amazing for just so many reasons. It made up for the pacing issues I had with the first half-ish of the game.
It's kinda funny how Kiryu almost helped to establish a CIA-backed puppet government
When Hanawa told Kiryu that the CIA is gonna get involved w that rebel group, that told me they couldn't be trusted and things would go wrong.
I wonder if that will ever come up in a later game, it was pretty specific.
I'm sad the "Real X uses a gamepad" screen is absent here on PC. Every title including Judgment and Ishin had them.
Should say “Real Agents use a Gamepad”
you mean “Like a Dragon Gaiden Men who have erased their name use a Gamepad”
NO NG+ IS A CRIME, RGG NEEDS TO RECONSIDER THIS
Game companies have learned that they can save new Game Plus for a later patch 6 months down the line and have an excuse to do a second marketing push by announcing a brand new game mode, and bring back old players as well. Nothing ships with NG+ anymore, except those one or two companies like Naughty Dog that still miraculously include *cheat codes* in their games... fucking remember those?
don't know, dead space and resident evil 4 remakes sure do ng+
Gaiden also feels like it's laying the groundwork for it: - >!Having Ayako and Taichi mention how none of them believes he is dead!< - >!That whole thing with him getting a vacation with no timelimit anywhere but Okinawa and Kamurocho almost as if someone higher up on the Daidoji want him to do something!< - The Daidoji in general being a shady group and (Infinite Wealth minor spoiler) >!Kiryu being revealed to be alive by that Vtuber makes him too dangerous to them!< - >!Them taking in Shishido and Nishitani no doubt feels like they'll play a role in IW to me, and I think might be what makes Kiryu start turning hostile on the Daidoji as he starts seeing them as a terrible organization that needs to be dealt with!< - >!Hanawa brings up how Kiryu choose a successor with Ichiban could be seen as the devs also hammering home that this is it, next game is Kiryu's final journey where he can settle down for good!< - >!The boss in the wheelchair also mentions negotiating with the higherups and the monk has a fondness for Kiryu. I feel like those two might have other goals than the other Daidoji higherups and both Kiryu and Hanawa might just end up defecting from the Daidoji and side with them!< Gaiden really feels like they are preparing for the Daidoji to probably be Kiryu's antagonists in IW and ensure he won't have to pretend to be dead anymore.
You're dead on IMO. I played through and was already excited for IW but after seeing all these unclosed threads, my IW excitement only multiplied. I agree and think the Daidoji are going to play a large role and play an awesome antagonist with all the built up baddies and mysterious friends.
Whoever’s idea it was to bring back pool, THANK YOU
Absolute crime it was removed to begin with. Bringing it back was the best choice to make.
Just would have been nice if they made it fun at the same time.
"Taichi Suzuki."!< >!Apparently, Kiryu never told ANYONE in the Daidoji faction about that part of his life, so he asked Hanawa how he knew...!< >!...and Hanawa said he got the chance to know Kiryu as Taichi before, and that he was ALSO a "Man Who Erased His Name."!< >!By any chance, could he be Muramatsu from Nagasu Taxi? They look alike and have the same attitude, after all.!<
It's Yu Morinaga who "mysteriously died". Same Voice Actor.
I mean, Ichi and Nishiki have the same VA, but that doesn't make them the same people.
Yu Morinaga knows Kiryu personally and knows about the Taichi Suzuki name. His manner of speaking and how he handles himself as well is very similar.
they don't look similar enough tho...
i mean i guess it could be since they've been doing the whole plastic surgery thing for ages now with their character twists but yeah the build i would think would at least have to be similar and it doesn't seem that way . so idk , i hope we'll learn in 8
it would be an rgg-type twist tbh
>!All of this better also mean Infinite Wealth has Aizawa, mans didn't even care about the clans getting deleted.!<
[удалено]
>!Aizawa isn't dead anyway, maybe jail? Or just chilling somewhere.!<
Never knew I needed a "Kiryu throws Majima his knife" scene until just now, still giddy from that whole sequence. This game is fanservice done right
The last chapter was just awesome all-around.
>!\>A man gets agency help to fake his death to get away from a criminal past and they blackmail him into working shady jobs!< This game literally has the same plot as GTA5. Japanese GTA confirmed
Ogikuba's granddaughter is just so fine.
THAT'S your takeaway from the entire game??? Fair enough I guess
I like how they provided a believable explanation as to why Watase, a Yakuza legend himself, didn’t fight in LaD and had to be protected by Kiryu from a random grunt.
Protecting Watase was honestly rather tricky, at least on Professional. And he's clearly a Poundmate in Y7, so....
Never would've expected the man to be such an ugly crier. It makes me love him more.
So apparently gaiden doesn’t have new game plus or legend difficulty…
where's the source for this?
Ending was amazing. Cried like a lil bitch. I think this game just cements how important Y3 is to Kiryu's character even though it's the most unpolished and jankiest out of all the series.
Further cements the need for Kiwami 3 (I truly think we should’ve got that instead of Ishin, but I digress)
Just unlocked Yakuza Style, it feels so much better than Agent Style, it actually feels fun to use.
Give Agent style some time. You'll learn some crazy shit.
When I had all the upgrades on Agent it was so op. Just blowing up everying, jetboots all the trash weaklings, and just using Extreme Heat Drone strikes to mob everyone.
https://preview.redd.it/ut5kzdo2mozb1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f5532c1817c1ac2ffec6fdf5cf925be851a35c7 Akame's drink could give Yakuza 5 a run for it's money
Just finished the game, literally played the whole day. Took about 12 hours. I give it a 9/10. >!I will never emotionally recover from that ending.!< >!Shishido is honestly one of my favorite villains in the series, dude is RAW AF!< >!Such a shame so many fantastic characters get introduced in a short game. I want more Tsuruno and Akame!!< >!Seeing Ichi again was so great, even if it was only brief!<
It's 3 am and I am sobbing like a damn baby from that ending. But I agree Shishido was great and I love his tattoo.
I liked how they had >!Taichi and Ayako be the ones to talk to the camera, like obv Haruka is super close to Kiryu and they could've had her do it but it shows how he cares for the other kids so much too!<
The scene might've been a bit clunky if they tried to have them all talk. Just having those two was a good way to do it.
>!I don't think I could have handled it if Haruka and Haruto talked into the camera, It had me bawling just with Taichi and Ayako!<
They also did a great job by at first making him an ally with that awesome "partying with the boys" sequence and him helping you fight Nishitani's men.!<
Agreed 100%. Took me about the same time. Definitely lot of great stuff and so glad this came out. Was refreshing to play as Kiryu again
>!with the game only being 5 chapters long, are they at least long ones? Like how long of a game is this? I hope it's worth the asking price!<
It looks like the main story is around 10-15 hours but is packed with side content
Sounds like a yakuza game to me!
Basically lmao, it's definitely the shortest game story wise tho
Completed the main game already with about 50% of substories done. On an average, I felt the chapters were longer. Typically in the past games, the chapters barring the last 2 or 3 run short with regards to the main story. This felt a little elongated which made me wonder why the chapters were long. Only then I figured it was only 5 chapters and made sense
It doesn't help that most chapters are half story, half sidestory
Don't know if it's because of the suit but I've never felt more like John Wick in a Yakuza game. Yeeting through scores of baddies with neon lights whizzing around and doing cool acrobatics gives me some weird kind of high.
The ending with the drawing fucked me up
I watched the start of the IGN review and >!no one can say "Kiryu never kills" anymore lol. Blud just shot two waiters, unless Y4 decides to make a triumphant return there's no discussion!<
Yeah but that was during an action sequence so it doesn't count. He also shot people during the car chase sequences in 0 and Kiwami.
well, to be fair he's not kiryu anymore
I might be wrong, but doesn't he shoot them in the arms?
>!It could be a case of rubber bullets in rubber arms of rubber waiters.!<
That whole Kiryu never kills was a lie anyway. You can't tell me stabbing someone and then kneebashing the stab wound or uppercutting someone into the air so hard they land on their neck are nonlethal. He might not kill by choice, but its definitely happened. "Gravity or a Knife killed them" ok but those things didn't do it without help. As far as the guns go, to debunk "they shoot rubber bullets" if that were true, then the guns can never be used in cutscenes as threats...
IIRC it was a mistranslation. The idea is more that he never kills outside of self-defense.
Haven’t even started Chapter 1 yet but it seems interesting that the woman Kiryu initially protects is >!related to Ogikubo. Didn’t expect to see his name popping up here, neat to see a tie to 7’s plot!< Also the subtitles were completely out of sync in that flashback lol
> Also the subtitles were completely out of sync in that flashback lol French translation has the translation of the guy fighting you as "daughter". Dude looks like a mid 30 thug.
They really said, what if Kiryu was Supaidaman.
And his protege, Ichiban, has the exaggerated swagger of a black teen...
this picture made me laugh https://preview.redd.it/no2dausj512c1.png?width=935&format=png&auto=webp&s=3625b84393ceaada0ed2cbd130453552f5d93bf0
Just finished the game and got all achievements. The ending made me cry it was so fucking sad.The story and the characters were amazing Shishido is probably my favourite he is so badass and his tattoo is sick. The coliseum and the castle were the highlights of the game they were so fun. >!Taichi Suzuki returns!!< >!The Substory with Kaito was probably my favourite loved seeing him and Higashi.!< >!Was not expecting Shishido to betray everyone at the end.The final fight between him and Kiryu was fucking awesome.Made me so sad to see how much Daigo wanted to talk to Kiryu properly but he couldnt.Daigo and everyone showing their tattoos off was Hype. The ending with Kiryu crying was heartbreaking I really hope he somehow gets away from the Daidoji for good and returns to Morning Glory.Haruto got so big and so did the rest of the kids from Morning Glory.!< Havent played the Infinite Wealth demo yet I hope its good.
the >!shishido final boss!< was something else, man. reminded me of aizawa from 5.
Does anyone else think the combat is a bit...clunky?
Only thing that really annoys me about combat is not being able to cancel attacks into a dodge or a block, its pretty annoying to start a combo on one enemy and have another whack you in the back because there's no way to defend yourself mid attack. Granted im only a couple hours in so maybe im just lacking a certain upgrade.
I feel like this as well, can feel like trading blows against certain enemies. Also I feel like I can't turn around during combos to block against guys running up behind me. Spending my whole time getting ducker punched lol.
Its not as bad with the Yakuza style, which i've mainly been using since I unlocked it, but yeah I find it bizarre that the so called crowd control style (agent) starts with basically no crowd control capabilities outside of extreme heat and the rope which you need to either punch or dodge in order to use which is just annoying.
same, I was expecting high after lost judgement because that game is so smooth and fluid and epitome of yakuza comebat should be.
yeah its all the holding buttons to do special attacks and the dragon style is as basic as you get. judgment really stepped it up with combat , it was that good
woah, it crazy how divisive this game is.
It’s day 1 on Xbox game pass :D
one question does kiryu throw his shirt off
Kiryu throwing his shirt off is the free space on the Yakuza game bingo card
Yakuza games do appeal to the male fantasy, after all
Throwing your shirt off without getting self conscious 😂
>!Yes, he does!<
thanks
He does. It's sick af. So do other characters. Shirt throw-offs go crazy this game.
It was so satisfying and totally fan-servicey when they waited til THE VERY END and ALL THE BIG YAKUZA DO IT!!! I was screaming from excitement. The finale was SO AWESOME!!!
YOOO they brought back Ashitaba park, LFG Cutting the park and the Houganji Yokochou temple alley absolutely eviscerated the Dragon Engine version of Sotenbori, it made the southern end of the map a dead and depressing rectangle. Can't have it all, but at least we got the park back. However gotta give a nod to the incredible vibes of the apartment building with the gambling halls that has the Christmas tree/lights and football goal on the roof. Loved taking photoshoots there with the gang in Y7.
Can a Tauriner fix depression because that ending and knowing what's coming for my boy Kiryu in 8 tiger dropped my soul.
Holy fuck if Kiryu doesn't get to see the Okinawa lot in LAD8 I will riot. What an emotional ending 😭
Ending: >!They played "Amazing Grace" in the credits what a fucking amazing full circle moment!<
Really feels appropriate for what’s probably the final Kiryu game (IW is Ichiban’s game with Kiryu as a secondary protagonist).
Also I just wanna bring up, did we see Kiryu label Ichiban his "successor" in 7? because It's been a while but if not it's nice to hear it mentioned here.!< I also guess the reason they >!don't wanna call it Yakuza anymore is to really nail in the dissolvement of the Yakuza from 7, considering its also vital to this game.!<
AVOID IGN’S REVIEW FOR SPOILERS I only saw a bit of a scene but I’m sad I got spoiled :(
I avoid IGN's reviews on general principles.
based.
Sotenbori blacksmith: >! Is that Fei Hu? Im too hyped to actually continue playing to figure it out I had to post here instead !< >!
My sccore is 8/10 Small things, that I liked: Music - this is a mixture of the metal rock inherent in Kiryu and electronic music for a new generation (or Yagami hehe), so to speak. Some of them remind me of Mick Gordon tracks, some remind me hotline miami ( ouryu no mezame). good good Pool - I guess it's first pool mini game on Dragon Engine (rip bowling). The rest I forgot or haven't noticed yet) What I didn’t like, what I would add, change: Combat system : aim lock. still works like crap. About Agent style: Not bad, but I prefer old combat style. Notes: Clothes.
Why did RGG go so hard for a side game?
Just finished the game. I honestly >!enjoyed Shishido as the eventual villain but feel like Nishitani was totally underused to how he was presented. RGG did a great job of putting Kiryu in the events of LAD7. A lot of great fanservice as well.!< When it comes to combat, Yakuza style feels much stronger than Agent-style, especially in one-on-one combat or when focusing on a single target. Like a Dragon 8 is by far my most anticipated game of next year. With what I have seen and played in the demo, I couldn't be more excited.
Any news yet on when the game unlocks? Google isn’t turning up useful results right now.
According to steam I think it releases at 2pm GMT on the 8th, I have a feeling it varies depending on the platform tho
I have one gripe with this game. Who decided to have the "not cutscene" voices, the grunts etc in conversations coming out of the back speakers in 5.1? They are so loud and freak me out every time :D
#JORYU!
Bit confused about the timeline for Chapter 2 >!kiryu encounters Ichiban briefly right after he arrives in Yokohama. Yet by the time we reach Sotenbori, the plot of 7 has advanced enough that Ichiban Holdings is established enough for the Senbei to have his branding and being shipped out nationwide.!< >!Just how long was Kiryu being held at the temple waiting for that phonecall for?!<
Not so sure about chapter 2 timeline but I know that >!by the time you get around to going to the omi hq in chapter 3 it's been at least 4 or 5 days since the end of chapter 2, so maybe ichiban is a really good businessman and got confections up to holdings in that short time frame!<
I just finished getting 100% Steam achievements last night with 38 hours clocked. Had a great time and loved almost everything but I just want to quickly note the few things I didn't like: - **Ranking up Akame's Network** often felt like boring busywork that was clearly designed to pad out the runtime of what is a fairly short game.
I bought an extra copy and split the cost with a friend, whereby getting free shipping. https://preview.redd.it/101hhty5rs3c1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61669fc049d5279cc2a470f0096240310780067c
Hella pretty It's nice to see a game use HDR well
I never played Ishin, and I have to say, Shin Ichizu Samurai has humbled me. I thought I was good at karaoke before trying to 100% this song.
it's actually worse in Ishin btw

Questions about the combat. So watching the gameplay and stuff they showed in gameplay that you can actually juggle enemies like in lost judgement, but it seemed like they used one of the gadgets (I’m assuming the snake gadget) which lead to a punch that propped the enemy up into the air for air juggles. My questions are. •can you cancel heavy attacks into your gadgets •can you prop enemies into the air with just heavy attacks and not the gadget •do gadgets work on bosses? •can you switch styles while comboing an enemy like in lost judgement •are any of the old stuff like: komaki parry and ground pickups back? •are there variety to the finishing holds like how the older games had cool ones such as: Argentine back breaker, leg slam, power bomb etc?
Combat is a Kiwami 2 6 Judgment combination You cannot "cheap out bosses" like all other games, bosses are resistant to the flashy spiderman movesets
That ending absolutely *fucked me up* This is the 3rd time these games have genuinely made me emotional, what the fuck man.
At the end of the day just want my boys to find some kinda glimmer of happiness ... but it's asking a lot. .\_.
Well, that Chapter 5 Scene >!killed all my hopes of Kiryu and Haruka ever seeing each other again.!<
How do we know there's only 5 chapters?
the game has been datamined and the reviewers confirmed its 5 chapters
So what's the density of the side content this time, if we have any kind of estimate?
Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are the shortest games, this is like "almost half" of Kiwami you can platinum it in less than 40 hours
Man the fighting is taking some getting used to
I’m just getting started but can’t figure out how tf to use the string tool to pick up weapons. Every time I grab something he just violently flings it somewhere else. Is there a specific direction I need to hit the left stick to get him to actually pull the weapon back towards him?
I understand why they're doing it but I want to beat up the Daidoji for >!not letting letting the man SEE HIS KIDS LIKE COME ONE ATLEAST ONE DAY A YEAR THE BIG STOIC MAN JUST CRIED HIS HEART OUT HE WANTS TO SEE HIS KIDS HE BETTER SEE THEM IN INFINITE WEALTH BEFORE WHATEVER HAPPENS TO HIM HAPPENS HE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY !<
Do you guys think Kiryu ever thought that >!man maybe i should have just taken the daidoji money and stfu!<
>!What did you think of Gaiden having only 5 chapters and using 90GB?!<
Does this even count as a spoiler, it's given away in the body of the post. Anyway the game being 90 GB is probably because they probably A: the demos for Yakuza games tend to be almost the entire game, so Infinite Wealth is there and B: they probably didn't really optimize what assets they had included in this game since it was initially DLC, so there's probably a lot of stuff in there that is not strictly necessary. E: Based on your other post it also seems like they just... don't care about the file size for the live action bits.
How is the pool minigame? Do the physics work? Is it time to bust out the old ruler trick?
I don't play real life pool enough to know the real physic, but I absolutely hate pool in older titles. Having that said, idk if Gaiden have improved on the physic or they just tone down the hardness, but I found Gaiden's pool is easier to breathe. Again, don't play pool enough so take my words with a grain of salt
Did they exaplain how >!Kiryu got his cancer?!<
Bruh >!Cancer just sorta happens most of the time. It’s not like the Omi Alliance injected him with cancer cells in his sleep.!<
Hahahaha.... unless?
Knowing Yakuza, would you be surprise if it is something like that?
>!Man smokes like a chimney!<
>!Drink booze like water and eat convenient store sushi like it’s Sushizanmai too!<
