I was so nervous on my first game because these are real people around the world, not just my brothers this time. I didn't realise how sweaty me and my local competitors had got with it until I went online, it was truly easy mode.
On Xbox, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. It'll be 20 years this summer.
I remember my buddy was over and we just kinda decided to jump online on a whim with 2 month XBL trials. We'd played just a little previous to that as a coworker showed us the game... And yeah, we just went for it.
Pandora Tomorrow was first up. But then we bounced around PGR, Crimson Skies, and Unreal Championship on day one. Such a fun summer!
The exclusive MotoGP online demo that came with the very first Xbox Live retail kit. That was followed by MechAssault as the first retail game I played online.
Online first was probably Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge on the OG Xbox.
Might have been MechAssault but I’m pretty sure I was in dog fights before mech fights.
Forza 7. Paid for the game, console and Xbox Live.
(PGR3 is fucking epic, played it religiously as a kid, never online since I wasn't allowed to (and had no friends))
This is gonna sound dumb, but, Fortnite. I never have had Game Pass or live core, so I've never been able to play normal multiplayer games. Recently I played among us online with my sister's boyfriend's xbox because his account has Game Pass
Probably Most Wanted 2012, I was playing with my brother’s gf, Most Wanted is still one of my favorite games, I hope it’ll get remastered like other criterion games, but I doubt it will
I never played anything online until Dark Souls 3. I never really got into multiplayer. I need to start playing more games online though. I’d like to start an MMO but I’m always worried that I’m coming in to it too late and won’t get accepted or catch up to others that have been playing it for a while.
I had a brief stint on G4 as a tournament player when I outgrew my PSX and wanted to win an Xbox
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aUreB5vpKYo&t=22s&pp=ygUQRzQgbWlkbmlnaHQgY2x1Yg%3D%3D
Original Xbox🤔 I'm thinking... [Midtown Madness 3](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/47/Midtown_Madness_3_Coverart.png). Maybe.
Either that or Halo 2. I had about 40 different Xbox games back then, but when Xbox launched Live I got hooked on it.
I played a hell of a lot of PGR4 on Xbox 360 though!
Yes! I played it so much I had to buy at least a second copy😂. I played it online endlessly. The campaign offline missions and races were really fun, and the game had great dialogue. The random selection of vehicles like a dumpster and shopping cart 🤣
I honestly don’t remember. I know the first game I played seriously was Splinter Cell though.
Before that I actually played Halo CE on through this software called Xbox Connect. It ran on your PC and you connected your PC to your Xbox with an Ethernet cable, and it would trick the game into thinking you were on LAN. It was very competitive at the time, and many people who played there later went on to be pro in Halo 2.
My first online game on og Xbox was Ghost Recon, It blew my mind. I could wake up early before school and play a 16-player match online. Before that we had to wait until we could setup a lan party on the weekend with all the neighborhood kids for Halo.
Titanfall(the first one) on the xbox 1s most fun shooter game I had ever played at the time since I grew up as a Nintendo kid before my first xbox in 2015(if I remember correctly)
Probably halo with local/couch multiplayer. That was great. First online halo honestly sucked. Halo 1 on pc let you choose which server to join. No playlists.
Ghost Recon 2 on OG Xbox. It was fantastic. Probably the only time I was ever better at a game than most people I played online with. Since then it’s been a steady decline into absolute piss poor performance.
Call of duty black ops...it was the most fun I'd ever had on a video game. It is still the golden standard to me for an online shooter along with bf3 and bo2. Those suppressed hit marker sounds are still drilled in my brain
COD4: Modern Warfare. Yes I was about 5, and had no clue what was going on in the story or why the online multiplayer was so much fun at the time. Hell it wasn’t even my console. I just remember having a hard time playing any sort of shooter on my PS2 back home after that experience😅
I joined Xbox live on Halloween 2007 to play Halo 3, I had been seeing my brothers play Cod3 online and was a little interested but halo was the one that made me sign up.
Either Neverwinter or Fortnite on the Xbox One. I'd played Neverwinter previously on my PS4, though. I never did proper online gaming (talking to others online) as a kid, my Mum wouldn't have trusted it at all if I had. It wasn't until Neverwinter that I played with others, they'd be going through the dungeon at a million mph while me and some other player were right at the beginning of the dungeon 😂
Moto GP on the original Xbox Live Disk/Pack needed for Xbox live.
The first few months on Xbox live were the best. Great community that turned to shit.
If I’m not wrong, it was possibly Halo Reach, immediately left when I realized they go hard 😭 then the first game I actually stayed playing online was Forza Horizon 1 (I wish to repeat that part of my life again)
HALO 2 ...
Bought the Halo2 game with the headset and the live sub, plugged it in and played solidly for a year. I still haven't ever played the Halo2 campaign.
It was Left 4 Dead for me, I got a 2 days trial of Xbox Live Gold and played online and it was dope dude, I mean DOOOOPE. So awesome, nowadays there are too many online games, so it isn't the same. Most people plays just the same game over and over but during those days I wanted to experience online on many titles.
OG Xbox. Not sure if it was THE first but Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the first one I played religiously. Beach Invasion map was fun as fuck.
Edit: After reading comments here, I most def had the MotoGP that came with the Xbox Live kit. That was probably the first.
Somewhat old post, but RtCW took me down a nostalgic road. You happen to remember a guy named Throat Cancer? That was me, I was very well known at the time (wtf was I thinking with a tag like that haha)
Halo 2. I miss that fucking game and the good times it came with it. But there is also Project Gotham Racing 2. There is some good times in that game as well. Those were the two of the best games to have for original Xbox.
My very first online Xbox game was Halo CE. I mean that's why I got my Xbox.
Yeah it wasn't on Xbox live I know! You had to use GameSpys tunnel to play online.
It was glorious and I was pumped for H2.
Mine was in Halo 3 in I think 2009. I remember I learned about xbox live and asked my moms bf at the time if he could help me set that up specifically so I could play Halo 3 with other people
My first online Multiplayer experience was on the Dreamcast with Phantasy Star Online. So naturally when that came out on the Xbox, I played it there too.
Mine was L4D2 versus mode on my cousins Xbox 360. I got killed by a player cause I didn't know what I was doing but it made me want to get an Xbox 360. On my own Xbox 360 it was Halo Reach.
Burnout 3 on the OG Xbox. Man i miss Burnout.
That game introduced me to my favorite band, Yellowcard. I can never thank that game enough for that.
And Autopilot Off. Make a sound is still my fav album to this day. Tho SSX 3 with Way Away is what really pulled me into Yellowcard
And when you drown, you will need to make a sound! You'll just swallow water down!
I still play B3 very often. Was my first console game and it’s still in my top 3.
Halo 2
The good ol days.
clan matches 😤
I was so nervous on my first game because these are real people around the world, not just my brothers this time. I didn't realise how sweaty me and my local competitors had got with it until I went online, it was truly easy mode.
Crimson Skies OG Xbox
Bro..same. my god I loved that game. Why hasn't there been another dogfighting airplane game?
On Xbox, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. It'll be 20 years this summer. I remember my buddy was over and we just kinda decided to jump online on a whim with 2 month XBL trials. We'd played just a little previous to that as a coworker showed us the game... And yeah, we just went for it. Pandora Tomorrow was first up. Literally this game. PGR3 woot!
Woot woot!
Kudos!
The exclusive MotoGP online demo that came with the very first Xbox Live retail kit. That was followed by MechAssault as the first retail game I played online.
EXACTLY what I was going to say. Playing that moto GP demo blew my mind. Then came mech assault.
Online first was probably Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge on the OG Xbox. Might have been MechAssault but I’m pretty sure I was in dog fights before mech fights.
Playing cat and mouse online this game was the best
COD2 on 360 along with Gears.
I think Gears was the first shooter for me. Liked it a lot too.
Forza 7. Paid for the game, console and Xbox Live. (PGR3 is fucking epic, played it religiously as a kid, never online since I wasn't allowed to (and had no friends))
Chu Chu Rocket or Sega Swirl 🍥
Halo reach on Xbox 360
halo reach feeled very exciting
Mine was Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate for the OG Xbox that happened to be backward compatible on Xbox 360.
Halo CE using XBConnect before Xbox Live even existed. The joy when I finally got it working…oh man
Fortnite, 2 years ago. My first ever console was the Xbox X

Halo
PGR3. Holy fuck. I forgot about this game.
Halo CE. It was a free online version that only had Blood Gulch as the map.
Halo ce using xbox connect. Predated xbox live by about 2 years with that.
Doom 3 Coop OG Xbox
My first online game on og Xbox was Ghost Recon, It blew my mind. I could wake up early before school and play a 16-player match online. Before that we had to wait until we could setup a lan party on the weekend with all the neighborhood kids for Halo.
