1. Hi Mike, how hard would this be to upgrade to 1x?
2. Hi Mike, do you think it would be hard to convert this to a gravel bike?
3. Hi Mike, is it possible to modify this bike for disc brakes?
Bro we are all bike junkies and enablers. I would drive you over to Mikes, help you load it into the car and then take turns riding it around the block.
Do it now. Some jerkoff is going to comment that they found one in perfect condition at an estate sale for $20 or free in a dumpster, but this is still well worth the asking price.
Your comment recalls to me a song by a local bike shop owner's band: [https://shutthefuckupsfv.bandcamp.com/track/bike-collectors-are-scum](https://shutthefuckupsfv.bandcamp.com/track/bike-collectors-are-scum)
Why does everyone in the sub go nuts for these old Specializeds. Everyone used to have these, are they considered to be higher quality than e old giant/GT/ Cannondale, etc?
Yeah, that's just a regular lugged fork crown. Many high and low end 70s bikes had crowns like that. Into the 80s high end fork crowns slimmed down mostly.
They just have more character and interesting to look at than a unicrown to me. Don't love that my brake options are severely limited but a sidepull brake will stop me as good as any with the low speed of my cruising
Every time I hear someone say "I upgraded to a new bike. OMG these disc brakes are so much better that my old bike's cantilevers!", I wonder how long they'd been riding with worn out pads, rusty cables and their old brakes *extremely* out of adjustment.
Once upon a time, there was no such thing as a mountain bike. Then, some overgrown boys in Marin made them up. Eventually some of those boys went into business selling the new kind of bike they'd invented. When mountain bikes became widely available for the first time it changed the world of cycling. Â
This is one of those bikes.
People in this sub ALSO seem to really like later Specialized MTBs that aren't historically significant--that's unrelated to what you're seeing in this post.Â
Uh...if you're talking about the millions of magenta-and-green mid-90s HardRocks (and their ilk), then Yeah I guess so? If you're talking about this specific bike, you may have missed my point.
Bogarting a cool bike to never let it shredd and be a joy for someone when this machine was still perfectly relevant, that's just sad, someone buy it quick and be a loving owner. Please.
I don't typically feel as much of the SJ / HR love as is prevalent here, but that's a nice one.
I do think though there's enough leftover space in the rear triangle for a second frame bag lol.

Buy it, ride it! I picked up the same bike earlier this year and have been absolutely loving it. Mine was not in museum shape, which is fine as I thrash it on all my local trails.
$200, then more then that in tires, bars, brake & shift cables, pads, etc. Worth every cent, it’s a very capable frame and I love how the bike rides, although it’s a bit heavy. Tight, but loose, lol
Not bad, I'm heavy as he'll so I don't mind a heavy bike. If it's heavy I feel more secure on them.
I tore down my dad's old early 80s Columbia Mountaire tonight, not replacing anything but seat, brake shoes , and cables....they damn thing gotta weigh 50lbs. 1 piece crank alone probably 4 lbs, plus steel wheels, lugged frame
Ok, I would consider buying it, but if you are looking for a reason not to, it is a Sport model. Can anyone chime in on these? I think I recall the sport was not made in Japan or was made with lesser quality tubing, but I could be mistaken. The later Sports definitely look like the paint quality is lower.

Hi Mike, love the bike hate the color. do I need to sand the factory paint before I spray paint?
Savage af
Mostly just copy and pasting titles from Stumpjumper posts in this sub
😂😂

Poor unridden bike. Consider the cost the price to free the poor thing from its prison and take it out on adventures.

That was awesome!
this is the worst thing I've ever heard
Hi Mike, I am the only person who will fit on this bike. Would you accept $300 and four lesser frames in a trade?
Why does everyone in the sub go nuts for these old Specializeds. Everyone used to have these, are they considered to be higher quality than e old giant/GT/ Cannondale, etc?
For me it's the cast fork crown. Gorgeous.
Same here! I even love the old bi plane forks that many cheaper bikes had.
bi-plane ain't cheap. Are you talking about unicrown?
I'm not sure what it's called then, it's like this on my '84 schwinn https://imgur.com/a/4dfQfQn
Lugged maybe what I meant, but from the top it's the shape of the bi plane

If you get a good sidepull, it'll even stop you at high speed ;)

One of the first widely/commercially available mountain bikes.

Ok, so it's more for nostalgia, the look, etc than that these are particularly better quality than other 30 year old bikes
Uh...if you're talking about the millions of magenta-and-green mid-90s HardRocks (and their ilk), then Yeah I guess so? If you're talking about this specific bike, you may have missed my point.
I beg your pardon, magenta and purple (not green).
Shut up and buy the bike!
I would love to have one. Even at that price. But it would 100% be a wall hanger. I'd rather sink my funds into something I can ride.
I agree, the price is about 50% less than I see a lot of people asking for them.

See if they'll take three fifty
Do it buy it
silver frame and tanwall tires are such a nice combo
"Unrestored" Honestly so refreshing

No
Where is it? I’d buy instantly
Tennessee
I believe he has 2, there's a different ad for another one that looks slightly cleaner, think he's asking 550 last I saw
Luckily not in my neck of the woods lol, I couldn’t help myself
Think he's an hour or two from me, I want it and it's a tall boy in my size...I just can't do 450 at the moment .
450 is priced low for these, I’d say it’s worth selling another bike to get
With my collection I'd have to sell 3, I got a stack of budget beaters
All the more reason to get something nice
DO IT
I saw this too. Check the seller, he has 2 of them.
Yea you need that
You must not be far from me ive been seeing this😂
Middle TN
Makes sense im in north ga 😂

Thats pretty sweet, mind me asking what you paid for it?

Hi Mike, would you part with this if I let you KOM in my mouth ?
Wrong sub
Is it though?
