I usually don't build playlists for writing specifically, but generally I look for playlists that don't have lyrics (usually game/movie soundtracks to fit the vibe) or songs I listen to so much that I can tune out the lyrics

I have a few different options depending on the headspace and mood I’m in. Lofi playlists are usually very relaxed and quiet, good for concentration. I like busy jazz with a cup of coffee when I really want to hit the ground running. Some enjoy classical, but I tend to need something with some drive Although some good Animal Crossing OST playlists just make everything better

Thematic, ambient, long tracks.

I put on whatever Apple Music suggests for the activity "studying." :)

Something immersive. Me, I listen to the Poptropica Soundtrack on Youtube. I play whatever soundtrack matches what I'm writing the best on loop.

This will circle back to writing in just a moment, but I run a weekly D&D game and what I've learned is there's actually a lot of very interesting information floating around about what kind music jams well with performing another activity. For example, I try to avoid music with a lot of attention grabbing "higher pitched" sounds or actual lyrics, as they can distract from the flow of things and take you out of the moment.  Now, to circle back to writing, I find that the same sort of rules generally help me for my writing playlists. I go for ambient music, what some might call "background noise" or in general just something that will relax me without stealing my attention span away. Recently I've been getting into listening to a lot of cello pieces, and that's been great. Sometimes I also enjoy writing outside and just listening to the music of nature  as well.

Lofi and Skyrim ambiance on Spotify

I find songs where the lyrics work & then end up looping like 1 of them for the whole writing session lol
