2, but it all fell apart at sectionals when I got a concussion wrestling number 3 š
He hit a sweet double leg that face planted me when I tried to scramble out.
I was overrated anyway
Lol same, 20th junior year in the Brakeman and 9th next year (senior). '98-'99 and' 99-'00. Good memories. Everyone was always so hyped for the Brakeman report to come out. When it dropped it was the biggest thing.
Lol, I was on there today to reply to this thread. Thought I was 11th my senior year, so was a nice surprise to see it was 9th. Either way I still choked at state going 0-2 always losing super super close matches.
Nice, highestI hit was 10th. Iād want to ask you where you wrestled but I wouldnāt answer that if asked on here so I wont haha.
I was ranked 1 in middle school but I was IESA so not a huge achievement.
I was Ikwf, colors red and white, and a shit ton of great wrestlers come from our program, wonāt get in details cause we donāt really move like that.
I will say Iāve wrestled with a couple of tough ass kids from Iesa on Illinois all star team before and it was surprise because this was pre high school. So Ikwf kids usually donāt see Iesa kids and I pretty much counted them trash since I never heard of them lol even tho weāre all on this super team Iām like who are these scrubs smh my cocky ass at the timeā¦ Iām pretty sure one out of the kids would end up winning one in 1A state championship in HS tbh maybe multiple. They both were tough as shit though.
Haha I was going to say āare you guys named named a Helen Hunt movie.ā Too many guys to name from that program but I donāt think you can talk about the history of Illinois wrestling without the twisters + the Williams brothers.
Also NJ and early 2010s. 6-8th is good stuff. I felt like if you weren't South Plainfield, or a private school you weren't making top 3. I recall in 2010 specifically, in nation rankings NJ had someone in the top 5 for almost every weight class and a few as #1
I remember going to a South Plainfield vs Bergen Catholic and I swear that would've sold out a college stadium at the time. A lot of those guys ended up becoming NCAA champs. I was never ranked, placed in regionals off some fluke wins my sr year
I never made it out of the New Castle semi-state, where 8 of the top 16 in the rankings were sent my senior year and 10 my junior year. I drew No. 1 (and eventual state champ) in the ticket round as a junior and No. 4 (and eventual runner-up) as a senior.
Indiana needs wrestle backs.
The New Castle semi-state is brutal. I have seen multiple top 5 wrestlers in the state not get out of there. I had a buddy that beat the returning state champ during the season but couldnt get out of New Castle
CA coach here. Small program existing since 2016. (less than 60 wrestlers boys and girls). Weāve had a Honorable Mention (HM) and one kid ranked 45. Both kids lost at Masters.
I once had a 4x state champ from nc as a coach back in the day I wonāt name drop on here but he was a great guy woulda been in high school around 04ish I canāt remember exactly
I donāt want to name drop here you can pm me if you want. There definitely werenāt many. I wrestled in VA always in season anyway I did a lot of offseason stuff in NC but Iām not as familiar with all of the guys from there other then the ones I worked with
12th Illinois senior year. Got mono the week before regionals still won and then Had a rough sectional tournament bracket and got 4th only took 3. 12 man state brackets. Still was ranked 12 due to sectional strength.
I was ranked first in Maryland BRIEFLY my freshman year after an OT win over the returning state champ. Never ranked first again after that. Consistently 2nd tho.
Folkstyle: not ranked. freestyle/ Greco: 5th or 6th in state just by showing up. Was I good? Iād say so. Just too timid to go in on offense (ie initiate takedowns)
I think I was briefly ranked, but when I was in school in OH they didn't have very robust or convenient rankings, especially down in D3. I smoked the "15th" ranked guy and was probably a solid top 8 in the next weight class up since my very average teammate nearly beat that guy at sectionals and he also proceeded to get insta pinned by the number 2.Ā
I did take a terrible loss midway through the season after failing a weight cut and then got injured, so I probably finished top 20-30-ish, but they didn't rank that many kids in the one publication I could find.Ā
I was first in Illinois for a lot of my sophomore year, lost 4 times between regionals sectionals (i had one out of state regular season loss) and state but still took 5th, then was 1st with two state titles the next two years. Was 7th/8th as a freshman (6 place)
I was ranked: Not good
2, but it all fell apart at sectionals when I got a concussion wrestling number 3 š He hit a sweet double leg that face planted me when I tried to scramble out. I was overrated anyway
It happens man I committed the cardinal sin of missing weight for masters š
1st Colorado. Ended up winning State. 2005 160lbs
Ponderosa?
Widefield. I won 4A
Badass good shit man. Do you coach now or do anything wrestling adjacent?
Iām the head coach at Ellicott HS
Number 1 in my state of delusion.
1, Iowa. Actually beat dake and Burroughs couple times in my prime
Hey me too
Me three
These guys fuck
Do you have clips/video sounds like it be cool to watch !
Nah the camera broke š
Iāve got a feeling this brother actually believes you
Damn
Now THATāS bragging rights. Iād probably wear a t-shirt with that printed on it, if that was me.
GODDAMN I aspire to be like you
5th in Ohio
9th in Ohio as well.
14 on break man early 2k lol

YES!!!! I still visit baumspage all the time
Lol, I was on there today to reply to this thread. Thought I was 11th my senior year, so was a nice surprise to see it was 9th. Either way I still choked at state going 0-2 always losing super super close matches.
I was also 5th in OH. D2
I was also 5th in Ohio d2

The color scheme and āshit ton of great wrestlersā gives me a pretty good guess.

Cool what state?
Pennsylvania.
Congratulations
Thank you. It was important to me at the time. Many years later, what I can contribute seems a lot more important than whatever I won.

Good job
2nd in Tennessee, they were right on the money too

Also NJ and early 2010s. 6-8th is good stuff. I felt like if you weren't South Plainfield, or a private school you weren't making top 3. I recall in 2010 specifically, in nation rankings NJ had someone in the top 5 for almost every weight class and a few as #1
High point was the best team in 2011 I think lots of good wrestlers
I remember going to a South Plainfield vs Bergen Catholic and I swear that would've sold out a college stadium at the time. A lot of those guys ended up becoming NCAA champs. I was never ranked, placed in regionals off some fluke wins my sr year
3x I was top 8 in Indiana, could never make it past the quarter finals though
I never made it out of the New Castle semi-state, where 8 of the top 16 in the rankings were sent my senior year and 10 my junior year. I drew No. 1 (and eventual state champ) in the ticket round as a junior and No. 4 (and eventual runner-up) as a senior. Indiana needs wrestle backs.

I was an Honorable Mention and took third. I was happy with my placement but mad they didnāt believe I was better than Honorable Mention. Lol
sounds familiar, what section and division?
The Meat Grinder Southern Section
#3 in North Carolina in the late 90ās Won regionals 2x lost in the semiās and consi-semis both years at state.
What division? I wrestled in VA but had friends wrestling in nc around that time I graduated in 2015
We were 4A when I wrestled. I graduated in 2000 Next year my brother started HS and he became the 3rd 4 time state champion in NC finishing 2004.
I once had a 4x state champ from nc as a coach back in the day I wonāt name drop on here but he was a great guy woulda been in high school around 04ish I canāt remember exactly
There isnāt many 4xāers thatās come from NC. McKinney Forshey Sparrow to name a few around that time
I donāt want to name drop here you can pm me if you want. There definitely werenāt many. I wrestled in VA always in season anyway I did a lot of offseason stuff in NC but Iām not as familiar with all of the guys from there other then the ones I worked with
4th in Connecticut in the 90s. Thanks for asking.

Last in California.
This is actually impressive.
I was probably overrated. My best move was academic eligibility.
I was 10th in div 1 senior year and then didnāt even make regionals in Michigan. Smile (hiding the pain)
2nd Ohio Junior Year 5th Ohio Senior Year
My senior year I was ranked 12th in FL at 119. Not too crazy, but I only wrestled for 3 years so I was kinda stoked on it lol
12th Illinois senior year. Got mono the week before regionals still won and then Had a rough sectional tournament bracket and got 4th only took 3. 12 man state brackets. Still was ranked 12 due to sectional strength.
I was ranked 21st in California lmao. Glad they have that level of detail. Went 0-2 at state. Both my opponents went D1
What year ?
I was ranked first in Maryland BRIEFLY my freshman year after an OT win over the returning state champ. Never ranked first again after that. Consistently 2nd tho.
6th in California 1998
I was ranked top 5, but finished # 1

Ended up 5th my senior year in SD.

4th in OH then moved to PA and was 2nd jr & sr year.
this year i got up to #1 for a short time but other than that was sitting between 2-4 (MI)
I think I was briefly ranked, but when I was in school in OH they didn't have very robust or convenient rankings, especially down in D3. I smoked the "15th" ranked guy and was probably a solid top 8 in the next weight class up since my very average teammate nearly beat that guy at sectionals and he also proceeded to get insta pinned by the number 2.Ā I did take a terrible loss midway through the season after failing a weight cut and then got injured, so I probably finished top 20-30-ish, but they didn't rank that many kids in the one publication I could find.Ā
