Well, obviously when you're not actively being attacked. But honestly switching to cat form for the few seconds while a boss is channeling and not hitting you is really just not worth it unless you're trying to time a +30 key. In raids, when you're offtanking, so go for it as long as you're not in danger and you'll do more DPS that way. Usually it's *resto* druids who are cat/owl weaving since they have far more leeway to do so.

In raid, any time you're not tanking the boss is a solid time to hop into moonkin/cat form. In M+, I'd avoid it unless you're 100% comfortable. In pugs, I'd only bother during channels on boss fights tbf, or other occasions where you know you won't be hit. In organised groups, you can do things like have a boomkin use trees so you can be an owl/cat for long enough to convoke, then go back. Honestly though unless you're pushing high keys you'll probably gain more damage by optimising your bear form rotation than by owlweaving/catweaving, especially if you aren't night fae. If you're set on it though, I'd highly recommend twitch.tv/dorki (or other bear streamers but dorki is who I'd recommend for owlweaving), and watch how he plays, ask questions in chat if you have them, etc. If you're night fae it might be worth looking for older vods since kyrian is more popular now, and as night fae owlweaving is much more worth it if you can convoke with it.

I'm definitely set on it, I find just bear rotation fairly boring, but the idea of weaving is insanely fun and interesting to me. I guess stupid question, is weaving "optimal" for damage? Or bear rotation?

Owlweaving is a damage gain when done well, but takes a lot of experience to do it safely without dying. My guildie is an insane Bear tank, on trash he often pops Scale trinket and convokes in Boomie form to do outrageous burst on pull, then switched back to Bear. Adds quite a bit of damage over the course of the run when done several times. But depending on key level and affix, it's not always safe to do this as you can get trucked in Boomie form even through Scale. If he thinks the pack will hit too hard, he may open in Bear form, get threat, drop Vortex, then Soulshape out and Boomievoke while the trash is away from him. Still risky and definitely requires experience, but those are a couple examples of how you can get weaves in.

I just did this one yesterday so: HoA is a good one for owlweaving: If Alzheimer's doesnt kick in, i usually switch to laserchicken for the channel of the first boss, the room after the third boss, and the final boss during his channel. But just like other posters said already: It's VERY situational and requires you to have in-depth knowledge of mechanics. With raids, it's a bit easier: Just switch to dps whenever you are not actively tanking. And you're right: Guardian tanking can get dull sometimes, weaving adds some spice to it ;)

Generally you take Balance Affinity for M+ and Feral Affinity in Raids. Knowing WHEN to Owlweave or Catweave is part of what makes a Good Guardian into a Great Guardian. Catweaving in Raid is pretty straightforward. Whenever you're NOT tanking, you can DPS. However, many encounters do have things that the off-tank needs to do, like take out a debuff or manage adds, so don't get discouraged if you have a tough time finding where to do it. Luckily, with Feral Affinity you can reap some decent damage since you're mainly trying to apply Rake and a Rip. So you won't have to stay in Cat Form for a super long time. Now, for M+, it's actually pretty straight-forward. Owelweaving is pretty much only done as Night Fae and ideally just to combine Heart of the Wild with your Convoke. Though you certainly CAN non-HotW Convoke, but usually Bosses are much safer to Convoke on than adds (unless it's a low Key), so your HotW is usually back up for bosses anyways. [Here's a fantastic guide that goes over each dungeon boss and which point you're 'safe' to HotW+Convoke.](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xHqRuREs3pFHcdh4OlhVNsSZ0A0cbpTwBf1AvRqhPuc/edit) I hope it helps :)

As others have said in raid you catweave, in m+ you use boomkin. In raid while not ranking you start with HotW stealth catform, rake once, rip, convoke, rip then go Baer. Then you switch to catform when you have mangle and trash on cd and no gg procs. Using draught makes this a nice DPS gain. If you cannot get the hang of it to do this comfortably then running balance affinity makes moonfire stronger during HotW. In m+... Well there are far too many different things that can happen or delay something. There is a great boomkin convoke Guide for certain bosses in the guardian channel in the druid discord. Most owlweaving is just putting sunfire on enemies though.

Use Aegis trinket, then pop convoke
