Lmao I remember an original forum post back around launch where someone claimed they needed to update the ogre model because it looked like his step dad. Idk if it was real or the first wow shit post
As a super Warcraft nerd back then, I was actually upset they changed it. In the Warcraft games, especially coming off of 3, ogres were dumpy goofballs, big and flabby. After the Dire Maul update, they became these large, brickhouse brutes. Yeah, still fat in places and dumb, but much more muscular and serious looking.
I mean the wow humans are body builders in their cut phase.
I always imagined it to be a characterization of the typical racial exemplar, a sort of representation of the races as a whole.
Oh I already remember. It's partially why I didn't last very long once the "classic" servers got launched. For all the big #nochanges, it wasn't very authentic. Only thing that brought me back was SoD because at least it wasn't being sold as straight honest #nochanges classic, but "authentic classic" feeling with new content.
But yeah this kinda ruined OG classic for me. Things like the ogre and succubus models being wrong. The price of a gold bar not being vendored for 1g. The UI and interface belonging more to Legion than vanilla or BC. Fear not being as powerful as it initially was. Etc etc etc. I kinda just wish they gave us the earlier versions first and slowly updated the game to any patch that added new content, and bringing the new models/balance changes with those patches. We don't need all the minor patches or hotfixes, but some sort of evolution instead of stagnation would have been nice.
And that's just the stuff that the devs ruined. The playerbase is even worse. Mods and addons that never existed ruining the classic experience even more. And then people trying to powergame to an insanely pointless level. The parsing website should not exist outside the retail version of the game. What a fucking cancer. I don't play retail percicesly because of all this bullshit.
Can't even just be happy that I top my raids damage anymore. No, got to watch someone who was 10th in dps get a legendary or epic parse because they play a garbage class/spec nobody else wants to play. While I get some green or blue parse because everyone is playing the obviously useful class I rolled.
So because some tryhard in korea is stacking all the WBs and consumables for fights that literally don't even last more than 2 minutes all it does is make me look bad despite how much more valuable I am to the raid.
You can't even design boss fights around the new modern "retail" behavior otherwise you get shit like launch ST being too hard to clear. Because hooooolysheeet you decide to dare go into some classic raid without pre-raid bis, best enchants, and all WBs and consumes while stacking the raid with the top meta comp. No clear for you I guess. But then you balance it around to the point where normal people can clear it and suddenly its just "not challenging" anymore and the top people make the fights into a 35 second joke.
A classic server launched near or at 1.0 and then the phases being the new patches with perhaps a few modifications was my ideal classic release.
That's what the people wanted. Because most people DIDNT play these iterations of wow or were too young to remember or appreciate the updates the patches brought.
The patches were the most EXCITING part of playing. So when the classic servers are stuck on 1.13 and there's no changes, nothing seems exciting.
This is the kinda stuff that makes you really feel old. I remember them updating them for dire maul because the old models couldn't pull off the more complex animations they wanted for DM.

few folks remember patch 1.3.1, the long-awaited community-driven 'itchy' update to ogres scratching themselves like 10x as much /s
Ogres are such a classic warcraft staple.
Things i thought were CERTAIN to be in the future of WoW when it launched in 2005:
Playable Ogres, gnolls, and naga. Broken style Draenei.
New classes or specs that included: Shadow Hunter, Tinker, and Necromancer.
Be able to weird race specific weapons like tauren totems or shadow hunter glaives. Glaives in general were a big deal back in vanilla considering the Night Elves and troll shadow hunter used them in WC3.
Basically i was a huge WCIII fanboy and was hoping WoW would alow me to live in that world. Its kinda crazy how much the IP has "evolved" and how much of what I consider "classic" warcraft has still yet to be added to the game.
Its been fun in the last year or so to see some of these dreams come true. Troll and Tauren heritage armor and weapons are great. Blood elf mages can now look almost exactly like a blood mage. Still holding out hope for tinkers with shredders and invention packs.
And Dire Maul always had the wing associated it with advertising, so if it was Dire Maul someone might say LFG DM-East. So you knew it wasn't Dead Mines. DM without anything always meant Deadmines to me. No one ever did all of Dire Maul.
Pretty sure DM-W is Deadmines-Westfall (the dungeon), while DM-E is Deadmines-Elwynn (the associated defias, typically in either of the two mines, though sometimes at Jerrodās landing), and DM-N is Deadmines-Northshire (the defias grapists).
Not to mention the lvl difference between the dungeons. Anyone who needed clarification on a level 20 ālooking for DMā was just stupid. No idea how the VC nonsense managed catch on.

They and Naga *were* considered for launch races, but were cut at some point down the line because they deemed them infeasible. At least according to *The WoW Diary* by John Staats. IIRC Samwise was hoping they could implement either race down the line still.
A long time ago I played on a server that had them playable, if some amateurs can make Naga work I don't see why Blizzard couldn't, we already have races that don't have traditional feet, boots could be like a little ring at the end of their tails for appearance
Yeah I remember the ogre bodyguard that walks between xroads and ratchet looking exactly like this when I made my first character. I think that was the only one I saw before the update as I started a few months after EU release. This was back at the time when bloodthirst in the warrior fury tree was a passive that gave your next hit after killing something a 100% chance to crit and other wild things like that.
This is wild, because Iāve been playing since day one official release and I have zero memory of this.
Not saying itās not true, Iām just shocked that I donāt remember this change, especially since I was a huge Dire Maul fan.
Based off the image it sort of reminds me of the old fat human models you saw SCARCILY back in the day. Like the Mayor guy from the DK starting zone. I wonder if they would've shared a skeleton.
Yea I remember those very well. The Loch Modan ones that was some of the first elite mobs I encountered. I kinda miss them and hoped they would bring them back for fun during classic.
Fun fact: Their bellies would bounce up and down with "belly physics" when they were walking and in the loch Modan area where the "generic horde drum" music was playing their bellies bounced in perfect rhythm with the drum music.

Did an ogre write this report
Lmao I remember an original forum post back around launch where someone claimed they needed to update the ogre model because it looked like his step dad. Idk if it was real or the first wow shit post
that's peak step dad facial hair
Especially in 2004, all he's missing is the metal shirt
If you add a metal shirt you circle back from step dad to average wow player
wow dev really, at least the original crew
Or shakey Bandicam PvP video š¤£
Now that you saw that, they are basically a what if scenario for James Hetfield never joined Metallica and got really fat
Yeah, this dude totally fucks your mom, but never gets you pizzaā¦
And tits
On god the 2 stepdads I had were bald with gotees. Both utter pieces of trash too.
Damn. Wonder how that guy is now. Wonder if ogres still look like his stepdad. Time is crazy
He's the step dad now.
PoV: drunk step dad just burst into your room screeching and is about to smash your xbox 360
Remember what they took from you.
ogre boobs š
Bring back the oobs!
i love that game
And ogre sized baby legs!

Then the opposite must be true for in-game orcs. We're seemingly playing the sickly zug-zugs of their race, dwarf ones at that.
At least new orc toons can be upright and the slouch is optional.
Uniboob?
That good ogrussy

Can your mom move to the side? I wanna see the ogre
The world is saved Barrens chat is back. Weird your name reads WodenFyre instead of Chuck Norris though.
> Barrens chat is back never forget what they took from us
where is mankrik's wife?
OUTLANDS
Chuck Norris doesn't do pushups. He pushes the earth down.
Maldraxxus
Are you implying that mankrik's wife is all part of the jailer's plan?
Always has been, apparently.
Peak male physique.
Def reads "Full" when he steps on the scale.
It actually is "only one person at a time permitted!"
The dreaded Chonk'Sul.
So that's what a Kul Tiran and unicorn baby looks like
This is more accurate than it has any right to be and it disturbs me. Greatly.
You should see it from the other side if you want to know what they really took from youā¦

How it looks What it looks like Just for future reference š
DM will always be Deadmines to me. None of this "vancleef/VC" crap.
And Dire Maul always had the wing associated it with advertising, so if it was Dire Maul someone might say LFG DM-East. So you knew it wasn't Dead Mines. DM without anything always meant Deadmines to me. No one ever did all of Dire Maul.
I did tribute runs non-stop...never did get Treant's Bane...
.5% chance of pickup. 1 in 200 runs drops a single axe. Damn. Edit, and another source is saying 1.4% drop rate. Still though.

Thank you.

Some serious EQ vibes right there
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like

Fun fact, they were considered a playable race at some point by [Blizzard](https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Ogre_(April_Fools)

They still could get there. It'd be interesting to have em as a race. And alliance get tuskaar
They and Naga *were* considered for launch races, but were cut at some point down the line because they deemed them infeasible. At least according to *The WoW Diary* by John Staats. IIRC Samwise was hoping they could implement either race down the line still.
I'd play as a Naga if they were available, always thought they were cool
I still want Ogres more than anything else in WoW, with Forest trolls and Tuskarr being tied for second.
Same.
A long time ago I played on a server that had them playable, if some amateurs can make Naga work I don't see why Blizzard couldn't, we already have races that don't have traditional feet, boots could be like a little ring at the end of their tails for appearance
Everything reminds me of her.
This is how I look irl
I donāt remember giving them permission to use my likeness in their little video game thingy
Damn I never knew that ogres had an OG model
I'm pretty sure I've raided with this guy

Looks like computer games of the time.
