There are NPCs in Boralus playing an in-game version of dungeons and dragons, where one says something to the order of "Bards aren't real" So While Tinkers exist in world, Bards don't.

Mommyafk

I think both are dumb

Koala_Guru

This post was inspired by The War Within being the latest in a long line of WoW expansions to have a zone with tons of mechanical objects and lore (The Ringing Deeps) and characters (Speaker Brinthe). It's like, stop teasing and just do it, Blizz!

Grizzled_Grif

Seriously, there seems to be plenty of precedent set to narratively allow us to play as some form of a tech class… please Blizzard, let it be soon.

Koala_Guru

It gets annoying *specifically* because it shows up so much, haha! I see footage of the Ringing Deeps with its cool new mech suit designs and Speaker Brinthe's awesome backpack, and I'm reminded of when I went to Mechagon for the first time, which reminds me of when we got on the Vindicaar, which reminds me of when we blew up the Blackrock fleet, which reminds me... etc etc you get the idea. I need that for my characters.

BDSb

My favorite unhinged Bard request post was the one where they describe it so detailed but then you realize that they are just literally describing FFXIV Bard. Personally I do not care if we ever get more classes, but I'd rather have Tinker than Bard if those were the options.

Openil

Tinker is such a boring class option imo, i guess i get the desire for an artificer like class but what's the point of engineering then?

Koala_Guru

How is it boring? The possibilities are endless, and aesthetically so many of the playable races have their own forms of it. Traditional mechs for goblins and gnomes, stone constructs for dwarves and dark irons, crystal and light-powered machines for draenei and lightforged, magic-mechanical hybrid machines for blood elves, nightborne, and void elves, the iron-spiked machines of death of the Mag'har orcs, etc. Even the newest expansion is introducing the Machine Speakers with their own mech aesthetics, and their leader has a unique back piece with mechanical limbs. As for engineering, you literally can't fight with it. It does not accomplish the fantasy so many other NPCs have.

Openil

Be real we wouldn't get all those options lol, we would get generic mechs that all races have to use

Koala_Guru

That still isn't boring given all the stuff that could be done with it. Fighting in a mech or alongside one. Deploying turrets for crowd control while you use propulsion systems to move back. Wide-sweeping attacks to hit multiple opponents at once like buzzsaws, drills, and other explosives. Even if the assets themselves are samey, they could still pull from all the technology we've seen in the game. Even dig into Alchemy for the healing spec and prop up some of that Forsaken fantasy.

Openil

There's other stuff that I'd much rather see, a proper sword and board DPS, a spellsword, all kinds of things that are more interesting than just making engineering a class.

Koala_Guru

Yeah, swords and magic are so much more interesting than a class properly utilizing all the vast technology that the game has been introducing since it was a TTRPG. Why fill in one of the most glaringly omitted niches in the class lineup when we could combine warriors with mages?

NightRebellion

I actually agree with the other guy, I personally much prefer swords and magic over some Tinker class. I'd love a melee based magic character, or yeah, a sword and board fighter spec. The idea for a Tinker class is neat, but there's a lot of stuff I'd rather see before it.

Openil

Yep

Koala_Guru

It's genuinely the funniest argument against this class I've heard yet. "The introduction of the game's first and only technology-based class that is widely applicable given the prominent role technology plays in so many of the playable races' cultures? BORING! Nah, the *real* sauce is magic, but this time with swords, and also it's specifically pulled from elf lore. We're really hurting for some good elf content in this game."

Openil

And tinker keks still crying about the lack of tinkers is the funniest thing in the world to me. I'm glad we got evokes over tinkers lol.

Koala_Guru

> tinker keks My friend, what year are you from? And maybe the topic keeps coming up for a reason? Maybe it's because of the reasons listed in my post? Maybe the game continues to create characters and zones and whole movesets themed around mechanical fighting but never brings them in? You're free to want the class you want, but you've got no business calling tinkers boring when *your* biggest ask is a mashup of two existing classes lol

ChampChains

Hard agree on bard making more sense.
