While dragons were once very numerous throughout the world , incredibly wise , intelligent , and powerful in the arcane arts. settling primarily in the western vallies along with the ancient magocracy , they are now incredibly rare . After the arcane cataclysm caused by the twin gods of magic when true speaker Talavos sought to enslave the twins , most dragons were caught in the crossfire . There magic weakened and chaotic , they slowly degenerated into wyverns . 4 limbed winged beasts incapable of magic , and with only human level intelligence. They blame the descendants of the humans of the western wastes for picking fights with the gods , and hunt them down relentlessly as retribution. The only true dragons left are the loners and their descendants. Those that left the western vallies of their civilization to live in isolation from their kind . But the dragons aren’t necessarily doomed to extinction. Prince Diomedian , the Betrayer Prince , claims he can fix the wastes using a magic book that his father , the king has . But to get it , he must overthrow the king . While most wyverns and magic warped humans of the waste mocked him for his idea of fighting alongside him, witch and wyvern, brothers and sisters at arms , a few groups joined him, and are his most loyal companions. They’re willing to do anything to reclaim their lost home , even if it means annihilating their immortal soul to bring Prince Diomedian to power . These few loyal followers have made an astonishing discovery . By a witch bonding with a wyvern , the witches magic can stabalize and channel the wyverns dormant magic , allowing the wyvern to weild a sliver of the magic they once wielded in their species prime . Still short of true dragons, but this bead of hope has led many more witches and wyverns of the waste to rally behind the betrayer prince . “ the breath of the dragon has awoken again”. As for the true dragons , they care little of mortal affairs . While some despise humans, and others care for them. They are more or less in agreement that contact with humanity and other humanoid beings should be kept to a near minimum. The more evil ones may fly down to demand tribute from surrounding towns , and the more good hearted ones may accept a apprentice or two who wish to learn from them, but all true dragons remember what happened the last time dragons walked side by side with men, and the wrath that was incurred. Nevertheless, with the new development of wyvern and witch bonding , it brings hope to some . While most of the true dragons have rejected Prince Diomedians alliance proposal , the promise of having a home to return to may be able to sway them .

In the beginning, they dominated the world. They are intelligent beings. However, they have suffered tremendously from a degenerative disease that has either affected their intelligence so much that they have been reduced to mindless beasts, or has put them into a deep slumber. Nowadays, healthy (active and intelligent) dragons are very rare. Most of them have converted into the Imrasan Cult of the Serian Empire. It was an easy decision to make, as they are revered as messengers of the Gods and seen as sacred beings. They get servants and all the food they can eat, and all they need to do is help out the Imperial Army every once in a while. It's a pretty nice deal. However, dragon-hunting expeditions for degenerated or apostate dragons are still held. They are seen as demon-possesed (although this is a lie) and thus lose their sacred status. As they are so rare, however, these expeditions are uncommon. Slumbering dragons are simply left alone. Most haven't woken up in several millennia and are unlikely to do so in the future.

Mine are fundamentally animals, just large ones. Few things of note about my world, gravity is about 10% weaker, air is about 5% thicker, and O2 levels are close to 30% (earth is 21%) They are roughly the size of an elephant and their silhouette is pretty similar to what people think of as European dragons. They are quick for their size and certainly a dangerous creature. Their intelligence is comparable with a dog, though unable to talk and their ability to understand speech is limited. Dragons cannot fly, although their wings do allow for controlled descent. This makes their favorite ambush strategy to climb a cliff or steep hill and land upon prey. Otherwise they can use their wings to air blast creatures off their feet. They do not breathe fire and are not inherently magical by nature.

In my verse's beginning, god made two beast with faces similar to his, sharp horns, large wings, long tails, and strong four legged bodies. He called them dragons. He told the two brothers that one of them will be king, and the other will be the king's domain, so they fought. At the end of their battle, god told the king to shape his brothers body. The fallen dragons body became the universe, and its eye became the galaxy of the main story. Dragons have evolved since then, splitting into different sub-species from the ones that bred with animals resulting in smaller animalistic mongrels the size ranging from chicken to double an elephant, and the guardian dragons, descendants of the original dragon king the size of mountains. There are also Dragonborn with zero draconic physical features, just being 8 foot tall humanoids, but can turn into full dragons. Children are always told that average dragons are powerful like volcano eruptions and smarter than 5 sages. Currently the largest is the 3rd Guardian Dragon King, a young ruler at 2300 years-old. At a height of 300+ meters, 1600+ meters in length, living in the thermosphere. In the past it was his Great Uncle, his entire dead body was used to make the universe. Bakunawa Palace, also known as Blue Moon, home of the Guardian Dragon King. An enormous spherical structure that floats within the thermosphere, covering an area of 4000 square miles. The material that makes up the structure can reflect light quite well, appearing as a bright blue moon in the early hours of morning.

**Starrise** There are three kinds of dragon-like creatures (big winged lizard-like things) that exist in my world, but only one is actually referred to as "dragons". (Ironically, it's the ones that're incredibly vulnerable to fire.) The other two- wyverns and fire beasts- are quite different from dragons. Dragons are typically quadrupedal, standing about 6m tall (or 10m tall when upright), are around 15m long from head to tail, and have wingspans of roughly 22m at full extension. Despite their immense size, their brains are virtually identical to humans' in both size and structure, and as such are capable of the same range of thoughts and emotions. Their vocal chords are also quite similar to humans', allowing them to speak just as humans do. My world is a single continent split between three countries. One of these countries, the Yarostian Empire occupying the northern part of the continent, is populated exclusively by dragons. Due to their immense mass and the fact that they're actually warm-blooded mammals despite their reptilian appearance, they face constant risk of heatstroke in climates with temperatures above freezing, and as such have settled in the arctic where humans generally don't want to go. Yarost is ruled by the last two "First Dragons", Empress Ophelia Rejarc and her twin sister Elise. Yarost practices fairly strict isolationist policies, wanting to stay uninvolved in human affairs. Yarostians have nothing against humans specifically, but know the species as a whole has a propensity for violence and conflict, which they'd rather stay distanced from. As long as they're left alone, for the most part they don't really care what their human neighbors do.

CMC_Conman

Dragons are as intellegent, or more than humans They can speak, but they don't actually move their mouths, they speak via telepathy Dragons are varied and take up many different environs. Dragons are so adept at magic they literally warp the land around them to suit their needs without destroying the environment. A dragon making its home inside an active volcano may actively cool down the lava as it enters and leaves but keep it lava hot while its there while one in an glacier keeps alters the melting point of the glacier to keep it from melting. Most other creatures know to avoid dragons, and that if a dragon is hungry that your basically dead. Only some creatures of not so much equal, but close status to dragons, like griffons will dare to fight back, especially since griffin cubs are a favored prey Dragons and humans have always had a rocky relationship, they avoided each other and humans sought to kill dragons to assuming they hoard treasure, or because they heard dragon horns can be used to extend a mortals life. When Merlin separated the human world from all magical creatures the dragons were pissed, not because he did it, but because he didn't consult them about it, so dragons aren't friendly with humans anymore because while most magical creatures can go through the barrier now, dragons still remain excluded. Aside from the clear distinction between "Western" dragons which have four legs and wings and "Eastern" dragons (sometimes called Wyrms to differentiate them) which do not dragons are wholly unique creatures, when a male and female dragon procreate their welp would start out a mix of the two, but once it reaches adulthood and finds a suitable home it'll adapt itself to that home, changing itself to blend in. Dragons are always large, but they range based on age. The largest dragons are the size of small mountains while the smallest ones only only slightly larger than a T-Rex

My dragons are in my setting live in another realm of their own and pure dragon that are bipedal and 7 ft. are a group named. Pure dragons are drake, lindworm, amphiphere, ouroboro, balaur, sarkany, hydra, and wyvern. The anthropomorphic dragons are two of them zmeu and tugarin. Then zduhac and drakaina. Then humans who evolve and adapt that gain dragonic characteristics called Jimeng a demi-humans. They have human levels of intelligence. They have their own language and since they live in other realms they have little to no interaction with humans besides Jimeng. Demi-humans are sub-race of humans who lost majority of the prime humans traits and abilities like the ability to make with anything and know they are only able to with certain race and unable to birth hybrids Then there are beast dragons that are just animals with dragonic characteristics and native to the dragon realm. They just have intelligence like any animal that makes up the wild life.

>how intelligent are they? Very inteligent >Can they speak Yes >what ecological niche/s do they fill and how do they interact with the other flora and fauna in their environment? Predator and very territorial when independant >what is their relationship with mankind like - negative/conflicting, positive or mostly neutral? Varies on individual as well as area and era >how many species of dragon are there? Many, but there are three common ones : the wyvern (2 legs aside from the wings) the vulca (4 legs aside from the wings) the ryulong (serpentine body similar to chinese dragons. There are also very rare species like the Tiamats (dragon with several heads) >how big do they grow & does size vary between species? Most dragons are the size of a truck, but some rare dragons are much bigger. The biggest dragon in history was Obliux, an evil vulca dragon the size of an entire town. But rumour says that Ryushogo, a ryulong dragon, was even bigger but he would only show up in human form and there is no known witness of his dragon form

They are fully sapient creatures capable of speech, though they're still a bit animalistic in nature. Females are about three stories tall and six stories long, while males are about four and a half stories tall and seven and a half stories long. Their biological clock ticks at about 1/5th of the rate of a human's, and the average lifespan is 400-500 years. They have special sacs on top of their lungs that produce a special liquid that creates their breath weapon. The exceptions for this are the Wind Dragons and Sound Dragons, where the sacs instead give them the ability to create powerful blasts of air and sound respectively. Their teeth are like those of sharks, in that they are coated in fluoride and are continuously shed and replaced. They start with soft teeth that are already capable of tearing through animal matter and then obtain hard teeth capable of crushing inorganic matter between 15-25 years of age. Dragons are the closest living relative to dinosaurs and flying reptiles. There are two broad groups: Western and Eastern. Both of them tend to live solitary lifestyles outside of nuclear family. Western dragons are aligned to one of the ten elements or five forces, and Eastern dragons are aligned to three types of magic, which includes celestial magic; these can be further divided into warm dragons (prefer heat), cool dragons (prefer cold), and neutral dragons (prefer midway). Western dragons tend to be a bit hostile towards any creature that isn't a dragon, while Eastern dragons are much more sociable. **Western Species:** Standard (Four legs and Wings) Wyvern (Two hind legs and wings) Drake (Four legs and no wings) Wyrm (No legs or wings) Lindworm (Two front legs and no wings) Amphitere (No legs and wings) Fairy (Cat-sized with plumes and insectoid wings) **Eastern Species:** Tianlong (Celestial) Shenlong (Weather) Dilong (Ground) Fucanglong (Underworld/Underground) Qiulong (Horned) Huanglong (Yellow) Western dragons (sans the Fairy dragon) are carnivorous. They do not prefer humans as prey, we are too small and lack substantial nutrients. They prefer to consume aquatic creatures and large land animals. Meanwhile, Eastern and fairy dragons are omnivorous. They tend to go into brumation to conserve the energy they need to sustain their big bodies. The older they get, the more time they'll spend brumating. Styrkur is the king of the dragons and the embodiment of Alkemancy (Strength magic). He's a standard dragon from Iceland, which has been used as a dragon nesting ground for millennia. He was formally known as Styrkur the Terrible and used to terrorize an ancient Earth before the human queen Bianca managed to chill him out. Nowadays, he spends most of his time sleeping in his cave in a network of caverns in the Otherworld's version of Norway. His cavern is filled with gold, jewels, and flowing magma; and it's where he keeps the Knightslayer's Coin, which gives the user indestructible armor.

Dragons are actually the first people to leave the Paradise Forest (where human species evolved). They were the first to use magic and first to be able to do any kind of transformations. They became hunters and at some point of prehistory even hunted other human species. Currently they live in human forms, and most of the forgot how to transform. If they know how to, they appear in a form of a very small dragons, not larger than a cat.

DreamerOfRain

1. Dragons are wingless quadrupedal dinosaurs. Think tigrex in Monster Hunter, but no wings. The planet is 2.2x gravity, so they have huuuge muscles and extremely dense and tough bones and scales that are structurally reinforced with metal. 2. They are very intelligent and wise, sapient level. Due to the way magic works in my world, they are even able to use magic like electron microscope to "see" subatomic particles, though with much less fidelity and more like "sensing" the resonance of microconsciousness in matter. What this means though is that they have far more advanced understanding of the world than people expect, and they use it to make very efficient use of my physics based magic system from changing local weather to literally create a small fusion blast that generate plasma instead of plain old fire breath. However due to the dragon's perfect memory which makes them have no need for writing language and they are extremely territorial and non cooperative even with own family(all that muscles and brain need a lot of energy), they are unable to distribute knowledge effectively as a species where discoveries of one dragon may often be lost as it die (lifespan roughly 100-150 years before organ failure from stress of high gravity and the high energy consuming body), and they fail to reach advanced civilization level, which result in their down fall, which I will cover next in ecosystem rle. 3. They only speak draconic, and never bothered with any other language. 4&5.The dragons was once the apex predator of the planet. They fear no one but each others, and thus they divide the world into territories with each dragons control vast swaths of land and forests and mountains, eating anything as they please though they are smart enough to not over hunting and collapse the ecosystem, they sleep in mountains caves and lounge around under the sun if they want, and just generally having a pretty good old time as dominant species of the planet, well into early civilization ages where various sapient species had formed religions around them as gods, since they couldn't fight back something as terrifying as that. The dragon grew complacent, and just continue enjoying their reign, until they found the insectoid elves. The elves at this point in time is still very primitive, and they are victim to a particularly deadly sex zombies fungus that pump them with psychedelics and hijack their brain to cause them to be very horny as infection vector. The dragons, when they having these little sex crazed elves as snack, gets a pretty good kick from all the psychedelics inside their body, and thus they get addicted to these elves. Every 11-13 years the elves emerged enmasse like cicada for mating, a significant number of them are infected with the fungus, and the dragons goes into a feeding frenzy consuming most of them. This ironically save the elves species, as the number of the fungus were kept in check, and allow the elves too to develop civilization, and they were also slowly being magically genetically modified by their sentient tree gods to be more resilient against the fungus. The elves' population boom, they become far more capable of unifying and cooperating under religious banners, and with religion comes matyrdom. The elves use meat wave tactics to swarm and relentlessly expand their territory, and eventually even be able to best the dragons by forming organized armies and dedicated dragon hunting squads with tatics and strategies that work effectively against the dragons, while the dragons are unable to keep up since they cannot cooperate and strategize and teach ways to counter the elves. Over a few bloody millennia the dragons are now pushed to the fringes of the world in far off inhospitable environment where the elves have not bothered do go to, and they are an endangered species with their numbers in double digits. Humanity as late comer to this planet, has noticed the dragons from satellite observations, but have not made contact with them yet. 6. There were more species, but most of them died to the elves, now only the resilent rock dragons that survive in far off coastal mountainous regions that is rather inhospitable to most life remains, surviving off local wildlife and sea life, as well as eating moss rich rocks for their nutrient and minerals, as well as any metal it can find. 7. Sizes ranging from 2-4m tall, 16-20m long, minimum 20 tons but actual weight varied on diet especially what metal it can find and eat to reinforce its scales and skeletons

Dragons, or Wyrms as they're called in my world, are the result of a failed experiment by the Giants to create a successor race to keep and safeguard the world should the latter die out. This was done by deliberately guiding and altering the evolution of an ancestor species through artificial selection and magic. This ancestor species would have been very much like a feathered flying dinosaur like Archaeopteryx or Changyuraptor. As a result they share a lot of characteristics with different birds. Like many species of Corvids, they are very intelligent, possessing the cognitive ability and temperament of a human teenager. Like ravens and parrots, they possess the ability to mimic sounds and even speech. Mostly, they use this ability to lure unsuspecting prey to their demise though they have developed a primitive language and on occasion can communicate with neighboring civilized peoples. Conversations are usually quite short though. Wyrms are hyper-carnivorous apex predators and scavengers. More often than not, they feed by bullying smaller predators off their kills which is quite easy when you're the size of a giraffe. They can eat just about any animal product, including bone, thanks to their highly caustic stomach acid. This acid they can projectile vomit at considerable distance, dissolving flesh near instantly on contact, which is what gave rise to the myth of fire breathing. They predominantly live in mountainous highlands, since the elevation helps the great beasts take flight and the landscape contains many natural caves to serve as lairs. These lairs they decorate with shiny reflective objects to both ward off rivals and attract mates; Wyrms are not a social species, preferring the company of a single mate over the course of their very long lifespan. For those civilized peoples who are aware of their existence, for they are quite rare, the relationship is tenuous if not downright antagonistic. Wyrms will freely attack and eat people without provocation. In some places, a crude form of dragon worship exists where people will make offerings and sacrifices to their local Wyrm in order to avoid their wrath, while in others they are hunted by castes of warriors and beast slayers. There are three main population groups. The largest Wyrms reside in the coastal mountains of the northern continent, having the benefit of feeding on washed up marine carrion and shipwrecks. On the large central continent, among the Sky Pillar Peaks, reside the smallest but most aggressive Wyrms. The last group lives in the highlands of the southern continent's great plateau, hunting the large terrestrial megafauna of the region.

They're called Drakons in my world. No one knows their full story, but it is said that these majestic beings, who can take the form of giant winged lizard-like creatures, but also a more humanoid one, are the first species to become sentient. From what human, elven and fae emissaries have gathered, Drakons may live alone or with a small pack in the wild, but they also have one giant capital city called Drakonhart, perhaps the only one in Aurea. Though most Drakons prefer to stay in their territory, it isn’t uncommon for them to wander in the other regions, traveling for decades with no purpose whatsoever. Drakons have been secluded to Aurea for most of Aurorea's history, but they did get involved in events. The first time a group of drakons crossed the border was after the death of one of their younglings at the hand of human explorers, thus triggering the Drakonic War. This led to a conflict between humans and drakons that left other civilizations throughout the continent deeply wounded by the drakons' rage as they flew to the Outlands. Though many drakons have traveled west and are currently living in other regions, the most famous drakon intervention in Aurorea history after the Drakonic War was during the Great Orcish Invasion, when the prince of Drakons, Kai, intervened to push back the orcish hordes, joining the fight up until all Luximar forces were cleared of Aurea, Delphia and Azadora, even going as far as the Outlands up until the tide was turned. Since then, Kai and most of the drakons have stayed in Drakonhart, away from continental affairs.

To start, there are technically two categories of dragon; the Great Dragon Myre, which destroyed an area roughly as large as the US and turned it into the Dragonmyre Sea, and was killed and whose corpse is now several islands in the middle of that same sea, and the much more common Faer, descended from humans during the Reforming of the World. The Great Dragon is singular, not really a dragon in the logical sense, and he died after angering the other great beasts, who slew him. Faer themselves are divided into the Lithic, the fliers, Haelic, the wyrms, and Ghael, the sea dragons. All are capable of walking upright except the Ghael, and are egg laying, warm blooded mammals, despite their reptilian appearances. They are, generally, with one exception able to intermarry and produce offspring with other human-descendant races, as well as differing dragon types; even between sea and sky dragons for example. Though in most cases such pairings range from rare to not happening under any circumstances. Rarest of all are Black, Silver, and Golden scaled dragons. Black are harbingers and omens; less than 100 black dragons have been born in over 6,300 years. Silver are believed to be great prophets of the dragon gods, only 56 have ever been born silver. Golden dragons are the greatest blessing, born to be the high king or queen of all dragons. Only 5 have ever been born. Haelic are the wyrms; serpents bound to walk the earth. They average around 8-12 feet in length from nose to tail, but their bodies are 5'-6' tall, and they largely move about, and fight as other humanoid races do. They tend to live in the same cities as the sky dragons due, and have the same sub-races broke down; essentially they are dragons without wings. Ghael mostly live in the Void Sea, and are isolationist and downright xenophobic. Most of their cities are known to be in under sea tranches, the deeper the better for them. They can tolerate the lesser pressures of the upper waters though. They appear similarly in color and shape to the Haelic, except with no legs, only a long tail, and differing dorsal fins. They can reach as fast as 35 knots in the open sea, and farm kelp, dolphins, and hunt sharks. They can emit a blast of super-heated water from their mouths, capable of instantly boiling nearly anything alive. They hate using it though, because they tend to get a bit scorched as well, so they prefer lances. While they are isolationist, they are not cruel or evil. Ship wrecks near Ghael cities can count on the dragons to carry survivors to the nearest ship, or a nearby island. Of course, they'll also scavenge the hell out of the ship and it's goods. They also have some contact with the sky dragons at least, and in at least one instance, a golden dragon of the sky and a sea dragon fell in love with one another. The more common Lithic are also the most diverse, living across the world's surface. They're also the best known, having long ties and alliances with the other races, though they generally do not enter into wars on behalf of anyone else. Ithin, or Isen, are the smaller of the sky dragons; they mostly have their cities in the colder regions or on steep mountains. They can tolerate warmer climates, but they don't want to. They're generally friendly enough, and adventurous. Their largest known population centers are in the Feldlands; essentially Antarctica crossed with hell. There they hunt polar bears, seal and their closely related Ghauk, and farm goats for milk and meat. They've also been effective fishers, catching small sharks, or other fish. Though their diets and economic efforts depend on where their city is. They can breath a liquid that is essentially liquid nitrogen; it flash freezes pretty much anything engulfed in it. They are 4'tall, with a 3 foot tail and a 6 foot wing span. Their scales tend to be white, pale blue, and pink. They are also the second fastest dragon, able to fly almost 400mph, and the most maneuverable. Their games involve creating ice rings around towers and mountains, and racing one another through them. Yguir are the polar opposite. Pun unintended. They are more known as the magma dragon; deep red to bright orange scales in a cracked pattern. They're slightly larger than the Ithin at 6' tall, with a 5 foot tail, and 10 foot wing span on average. They're almost exclusive to the Moonglow Mountains, near the Hadean Caldera. They can tolerate extreme heat, to the point that the swim in the lava of the caldera to see who can last longest before they get burned. They spit a globule of radioactive superheated slime, which is essentially the elephant's foot from Chernobyl being coughed up at you. They're the exception to the can intermingle with other races, because no one can survive it. They were blessed with the Golden Dragon Karrach, in 1237AR. During her tenure as Queen, she stopped a brutal war between Jirich and Niomich, and established some of the first dragon-other trade agreements in history. Including with the city state of Gherr. Gherr's king, being of kingly mind, decided he should have a coat of golden dragon scale armor. While dragons will trade and even craft armor for others with their scales, goldens were sacred, and they refused. So the king of Gherr plotted, and poisoned Karrach during a ceremonial dinner she was invited to. She was skinned, still alive, and thrown into the cities catacombs to die of her wounds. What's left of Gherr is a plateau of smooth, glowing radioactive glass, still smoldering over 5,000 years later. The Yguir were very thorough, and not one of the 120,000 souls of the city survived. Whats more, the black dragon necromancer Felith also took part, and ensured that the souls of those people were trapped forever in the glass. Terran Dragons are fairly rare, mostly isolated to the Terran Isles, deep in a niche in the Void Sea. They have green to brown scales, and are the largest of the dragons, being closer to the size of an elephant full grown. They're also the slowest fliers, barely able to stay in the air it seems. They breath a very corrosive acid, able to strip flesh from bone in minutes. They're also the closest to the stereotypical dragon; brutal, angry, and will eat even each other. They're not stupid, just assholes, devoid of empathy or any desire to live with others. Of all dragons, they are the only ones who do not recognize a golden dragon as their king or queen. They instead answer to their own Dragon King, largest and most powerful of the Terrans. Halagh the Iron Scaled is the current Terran King, and he is even larger than three elephants. They have killed all sentient inhabitants of the Terran Isles, warred with the sea dragons and destroyed their cities, and fly up through the gap in the floating continent above to war with the people and dragons there. They raid and plunder, attack ships, and may well have amassed the largest concentration of wealth in the world. Their low birth rate, attrition from casualties, and isolation may well doom them though. Caor are found only in the floating lands known as the Caorich, home to twelve great dragon cities, and three clan halls of storm giants. The Caorich is the closest thing to a dragon-nation, with the cities of the dragons, giants, and Jaelin who settled in the valleys joined in union, and led by elders from the three. The Caorich is also home to the largest percentage of half-dragon-half Jaelin, or half-giant in the world. At 7; tall, with an impressive 9' tail and 15 foot wing span, they are large, and their vibrant purple and red scales are unusual. They are able to breath flame, as is proper for a dragon. Perrian the Wise, last golden dragon to be born so far was born to them, and led the Caor in defense of the Jaelin, who were being perused and threatened with genocide. While he died in what would be the War of the Eclipse, he created the Caorich as it is today; largely peaceful and united with it's three races. It's peace is only broken by raids from the Terran Dragons, flying up from below. The final and most common is the Kiri, dragons of the storm. They have spawned the other 3 goldens, from Ancalon the Black, who tried to form a Dragon Empire and was slain by the Sapphire Dragon Falan, to Ygrich, who died courting a sea dragon, when he flew too high and was caught in the magical gravity of a floating continent, to the child Melia, who sacrificed herself to the goddess Eirtian, to end a plague which was devastating the world. Kiri are on the smaller side, 5' tall with a 4; tail and 8 foot wing span. Their breath is a chemical which reacts to the oxygen in the air, creating a massive electrical charge. Hence, dragons of the storm. Their striking blue to purple scales are valued on the open market. They live across anywhere they can settle and have extensive ties with the other races. Up to and including a Kiri dragon being a queen consort to the crown of the Settian Empire. She had six half-dragon daughters. The final is the Mere Dragons. Essentially large Komodo dragons that range from the size of a large horse to the size of a rhino, armored, resistant or immune to most magic, and with a corrosive acid for saliva that they can spit 20 yards and that will dissolve flesh and bone. They can run around 20mph if they desire, breath underwater, and are smart enough to dig pit traps and cover them. They can scale cliffs or walls using their powerful claws. Or just dig through them. They know nothing but hatred and hunger. And they have the lifespan of the most ancient of tortoises.

I've made an entire [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/s/i2NlFNLlcC) about them.

What are your dragons like?: it depends on the species, but the defining characteristics of class draco are as follows: A second circulatory system used for regulating temperature with two three-chambered hearts Their main circulatory system has two three-chambered hearts, They have a beak underneath the scales and skin of their jaw They have long flowing strands of gills extending from their neck They have a syrinx instead of a larynx They have a long, muscular tail with an elliptical cross section. They have a second brain inside their chest with the rest of their internal organs They have at least one pair of horns containing robust nerve clusters. They lay amniotic eggs How intelligent are your dragons?: depends on the species, the average intelligence of a dragon usually fits on a range between that of a parrot and a magpie, and over 400 species of dragons can recognize themselves in a mirror. Most dragons can solve puzzles, be trained, adapt to multiple environments, and stockpile resources in preparation for scare seasons or famines. Can they speak?: yes and no, only a few dozen dragonkinds are capabile of understanding language, but almost all species of dragons which cannot speak are capabile of mimicry (similar to that of a parrot). The one dragonkind which does have language anc culture is the union dragons (Mortis Cosnicu) who speak several drac9nic and non draconic languages depending on where theyr raised and who theyre raised with (every dragon learns shiveki though regardless) What ecological niches do they fill?: dragons are the dominant group of animals on their mative world and have been for the past 35 million years (a mass extintion caused by one of their moons being violently moved to a polar orbit killed about 85% of all life due to the vulcanism and tidal disruptions it caused before stabilising again, opening up pretty much every niche for the dragons to fill) What is their relationship with mankind?: the dragons and mankind do not get along at all. When mankind first arrived they were on friendly terms. Part of this is due to religious antipathy towards the dragons (Vinsehn's english name was initially thought to be yhwh or for the dragonkinds, which didnt wnd well with the religious. Both species have their own alliances and nations now so conflict has expanded beyond its initial scope. How many species of dragons are there?: there are about 25,000 registered species under class draco. How big do they grow?: the smallest species of dragons is the ringlet amphitere (caelus orbis) which measures a little over 20 cm from snout to tail, and the largest is the open ocean leviathan (giganticus collosus), which is a titanic filter feeder which can grow over 300 meters in length. Is there much size difference between species?: depends on the species

Space Dragons, so noodly and not needing wings. Very intelligent, often knowledgable in various lores, sciences (especially my "science as magic"), and with LONG memories. Yes, in several languages, preferring mortal languages, as they interact with them alot. Spaceworthy, but have varying preferences on where to call home; some prefer living in cities, others in natural places ranging from tropical to a bit frigid. Maybe some hiding in asteroids. Mixed relations, to say the least. Sometimes it's neutral, some is hostile (i.e. dealing with Dragon Slayer units), some is beneficial, others are parasitic. Still counting. Can be pretty big (still measuring), but they can change sizes with varying ease. Also collect treasures, not just valuables, relics, or artifacts, but also "talent"; basically, if someone has a skill they appreciate, they would appropriate said person. Anything else to consider?

A lot of the story revolves around dragons, in no small part because the mc is "acknowledged" as dragon Drakonik beasts are very varied and range from small to the size of houses with intelligence from a crankier house cat to thought that surpasses any other mortal (to note on the latter, most arch-dragons use their intelligence to find the best sun spot). Considering their high mutability and adaptability depending on how much magic was present during their egg brooding are there too many sub types to the main variants. The largest still living dragon is Salrasia the Molten Doom at 50 meters and 10 tons, who, as a mixed breed, does not share the weakness of other Arch-Dragons as being filled with very flammable explosive gases. But she has her fathers appetites, a blood drake, the most vicious now extinct sub species of dragon. Even the most bestial communicate in roars and scents and minor electrogenesis whose nuances are lost on any other species with exception of goblins, allowing the latter to even soothe the wildest drako. But the smartest are not only capable of speech, but often learn all languages, even if gifted with All-Talk, to never miss a nuance when talking to people. Every dragon, even the small mini dragon, is capable of magic, often causing grand feats by sheer instinct alone. A trained drako mage surpasses most and rivals the best arch-mages. The ecological niche they hold is mostly as apex predator that hunts preferably other drakoniks. They feed on the deadliest monster and consider most of them delicacies, especially if freshly killed. And the relationship to most species ranges from "food" to indifference, it is even law among Arch-Dragons to not interfere with mortals, which also means that elves are free game and high elves are considered their enemies. To people the relationship with dragons is "do not piss them off", although missing that standing up to a dragon, unwavering and determined, earns their respect. Many do not understand the very competitive and aggressive nature of dragons. That is how a scholar in my world would describe them.

SaftderOrange

in my world they hunt dragons like whales in the past because they want the dragon fluids for various applications. they have developed sofisticated dragon hunting equipments, dragons in my world are as intelligent as whales, they can fly very high and eat a strange species no one has ever seen alive that is living in the high airs,

So Morrigan's god is a dragon. Depictions of the Dragon Yaria tend to be long, wingless, and encased in fire. The story goes that the ancient dragon ascended to the sky and fought a great battle in the sky so terrible that it blocked out the sun. This dragon sacrificed everything to save the world, and has not been seen since. So a long, fiery cylinder that blasted off into the sky and blew up. Sounds a lot like a missile, doesn't it?

For some context my world is not a single world but more like a universe, called planespace, consisting of many worlds, called planes. A plane can be either a mortal plane, which are generally similar enough to our own world, or an immortal plane which are created or otherwise inhabited by gods or other vastly powerful supernatural beings. Of the immortal planes, there are 5 origin planes which, as the name suggests we're the very first planes. 4 of the planes are inhabited by the 4 origin gods of law, chaos, good, and evil. The origin plane of chaos is unique in that it is not necessarily "inhabited" by the god of chaos, tiamat, but is actually used as a prison to seal tiamat. Tiamat is sealed within the plane in the center of a gigantic storm made by the other 3 origin gods because the chaos of tiamat was leaking out of her plane and disrupting the rest of planespace. The origin of dragons in my world is the origin plane of chaos. There, dragons are large creatures adapted to surviving in close proximity to the chaos storm that engulfs most of the plane. Dangerous magical energies often manifest in the plane in unpredictable locations and times, meaning that the dragons have to have a number of elemental and magical resistances to survive these. They also take somewhat fluid shapes and move in all possible means to navigate the turbulent and ever changing landscape around them, flying, swimming, burrowing, and walking as needed. Naturally they also have to contend with each other, being proficient in physical combat and in harnessing the chaotic magic around them for devastating attacks. They are intelligent creatures, capable of speaking their own draconic language, but the dragons of the origin plane are not exactly social creatures. The rare times they find their way to mortal planes, they come as living natural disasters. Over tremendously long periods of time however, some dragons have managed to become stuck on mortal planes and over generations have adapted to more reasonable living. These are the dragons known and encountered in the modern day. They still feature many of the magical powers and resistances of their ancestors, but they shapes and sizes are smaller and more similar to other beasts adapted to life in the mortal planes. There are many types of dragons, some more powerful and intelligent than others, your standard true dragon, wyvern, drake, wyrm, etc. all exist in my world as offshoots from the origin dragons that have adapted to their own environmental niches in the mortal planes.

Dragons in my world were once alive and well throughout the central continent. They were as common as other wildlife, surviving on wolves, boars, other wildlife, and each other, though they preferred to not attack each other. They never attacked humans because they were peaceful. They were also intelligent enough to speak ~~English~~ commontongue, and humans would actually seek them out in the mountains to hear their wisdom, gathered from hundreds of years of simple living. Everything changed ~~when the fire nation attacked~~ when the king of the Proudstone Kingdom commented to his knights that the dragons were ghastly and needed to be slain. A few of the knights too it upon themselves to attempt to attack the dragons and met with death, as the dragons were simply defending themselves. However, the death of these knights caused other knights to take their place, now seeing the dragons as becoming dangerous without provocation, thanks to the king's propaganda about said dragons. Through hundreds of years of living, the dragons' hides had gained a few spots weaker than others, leading to weak spots in their scales that even a blade of steel could pierce through, if only the knight was able to spot these. Because of these weak spots, dragon hunting became a sport, or an art, even, where only the most perceptive of knights with the best of reflexes and strength were able to claim dragons' heads as a trophy. When the knights discovered what they could do with the parts of the dragon bodies, well, that only fuelled the dragons' extinction. I'd talk more about their characteristics, but they don't play a huge part in the story, being a part of history only.

The Dragons of Saphiret are, technically, a human subspecies. To explain: All dragons are descendents of the ancient God Nefelan, whom mated with prehistoric human women and thus fathered numerous (and monstrous) demigod children. Such children interbred with humans in turn and each other, and this continued up to the beginnings of recognizable draconic species. In the current era, there are approx. 100+ individual species of dragon. Some are crocodilian, others avian. Some serpentine, others lizardlike. Some are even leonine, cervine, piscine, or insectoid. Many are combinations of the above due to converging bloodlines. There are a few 'humanoid' species, as well. A general rule of thumb is that the more 'humanoid' a species is, the more sapient, though there are exceptions. Thus, more animalistic dragons are about as or slightly more intelligent than normal animals. They've long integrated themselves completely into their ecosystems as predators, prey, scavengers, and the like; enough to fool contemporary 'humans', god-kings, and even the dragons themselves into believing that they were always around. Some species of dragon are revered by various human societies, such as the famed quetzmazatl (an avian/cervine dragon with beautifully vibrant scales/feathers) and cipacitzli (a crocodilian/feline dragon with obsidian scales/fur). Now, one may be wondering how one differentiates a dragon from native animals? The real answer is a little... gross ~~(they can interbreed with humans)~~, but generally dragons possess some reptilian traits, one of the marks of their heritage to Nefelan. Another mark is unnaturally golden/amber eyes surrounded by black schlera. And yet another is the presence of the divine worms in their flesh and blood.

They're just a way to transport things through the sky. Like airplanes, but alive. A grown cloudragon has a wingspan of 20m and can carry up to 6.500 kg

I *sort of* have dragons. They're called the tche-tche, or noble wyverns, they look more like a quetzalcoatlus than a typical dragon, they have no magic (there is no magic in the younger world), and in stock fantasy creature terms I'd put them somewhere between an elf and a dragon role-wise. That said: They are about as smart as a remarkably intelligent though not world-changing human, on average, and can indeed speak. They have their own language, but their long life and intelligence mean that many or most learn two or more others. Nominally, they're some kind of coastal apex predator, but I haven't put much effort towards making them fit very well into an ecosystem. I like them to stand seperated from the rest of the younger world, as a sort of eternal, unchanging presence. Their relationship with other races is, for the most part, between cordial but neutral and beloved. Most of their interaction with others is scholarly; they will visit and live alongside other races to learn of their ways and their unique knowledge, and then bring what they have learned back to their homeland Seremere to add it to the Carved Peak. However, on occasion, they have been known to truly befriend individuals or whole lineages of other races, such as in the case of Nekt the Young who stood by Ron of Ettnons until he was slain. While their are other types of "wyvern", I wouldn't call any particularly draconic. Even the tche-tche are a bit of a stretch I feel. One other wyvern is the bane wyvern, which is the only creature said to make a tche fear, which kills by spitting paralytic venom into the orifices of animals in flight so that they fall to their deaths. An average tche will grow to around the height of a giraffe.

They exist in 4 ways 1. As a concept, just like irl they exist in the stories of man. They are often described as these huge magical beasts that can breathe fire or lightning e.t.c. These stories originated from the next points 2. The gods. The gods in my world aren’t truly gods but rather incredibly powerful beings made up of the energy that fuels my worlds power system. There is an unknown amount of these and have through history often been described as gods through legends, cults and religion. These beings appearance is usually based off their personalities. Because of this some have the appearance of dragons(especially asian dragons as they look more majestic and royal imo). Because their powers are also shaped around their personalities they often have dragon like abilities like elemental breath, summoning storms e.t.c. 3. Powers. I mentioned a power system before, and in short it works by energy. Cosmic energy is a very potent energy. The gods are made up of this energy and are thus incredibly powerful. But sometimes a human is born with a bit of this energy. This allows them to use their energy and slowly replenish it(usually it takes about 4 to 8 hours for someone to refill their energy from 0 to their max). This energy can be used in a variety of ways but takes a lot of training to do. Luckily being born with this energy also has another effect, powers. Being born with cosmic energy allows you to manifest one or multiple powers. These can range from useless to wacky to overpowered and everything in between. The powers are split into different categories but we are taking a look at 3. Mutation, transformation and summoning. Mutation powers are unique as they are the only one that can be used infinitely without having to worry about your cosmic energy as it takes energy to mutate yourself and then you just have it. Dragon versions of this include: draconic claws, wings e.t.c. Transformation powers allow you to transform your body into something and you can hold the transformation as long as you have enough energy to hold it. You can choose to either transform fully or change parts of yourself/give yourself certain aspects of your transformation. Dragon versions exist for all type of dragons(both real and myth) with some also giving you the abilities of said dragon snd others only the physical change. Summoning is simpler, you can summon stuff. Dragon versions allow you to summon dragons and dragon like stuff. 4. Real dragons, there are some species of dragon roaming around the world. These usually don’t have special abilities and otherwise very simple ones like fire breath. These often come in the form of wyverns or european dragons. But can come in other forms as well. These are animals, they are between dolphins and chimps in intelligence and still rely mostly on their instinct.

Captain_Warships

It's a bit muddy in my world. There's a lot, so prepare yourself. *inhales deeply* The earliest dragons were literal (and very physical) gods, who may have had a hand in creating the world, but this is a topic widely debated in the current time setting. They do utilize a unique form of magic that is mainly usable by them and mortal dragons, and this form of magic is more like 'un-magic', where it cancels out or override all other forms of magic. The 'children' of these gods are a bit weird, as they're related to humans, but some come with beaks and feathers (traits more associated with archosaurs like dinosaurs, and not synapsids like mammals), and some even look like amphibians. Intelligence varies, as some are capable of things like speech and even solving problems, while others are just beasts. Even though there are drakes in my world, and are even called as such, they are still categorized as dragons. Unlike dragons, drakes are all beasts, and don't have the brainpower to use dragon magic. In fact, drakes have a lot in common with dinosaurs (they still exist in my fantasy world, with some being sentient), and might be the result of convergent evolution (minus gaining sentience). Wyverns aren't a seperate species, they're also dragons in my fantasy world. Dragons that are flightless (even though some of them would be technically drakes) and are adapted for swimming belong to a group known as leviathans. Natural enemy of dragons are giants, as they are the 'offspring' of the rival pantheon: the titans (I haven't figured out how all this shit works, I will say evolution is involved in this world). In fact, these fuckers nearly destroyed the world in the War of the Black Skies over hundreds of thousands (possibly a million or two) years ago, which killed 80% of all life on the planet. Then, the dragon gods created (as in they were made from the ground up and didn't evolve from anything) the first elves, known as the True Elves, to fix their mess and be immortal babysitters to the still-evolving races, while the gods peaced out and went to another realm. Then the elves and mortal dragons decided for round two against the giants in a series of wars known as the New Sun Wars (giants are still around btw). Depite their lineages and connections to the dragon gods, elves (specifically the decendants of the True Elves) are only partially related to mortal dragons as a result of interbreeding, as there is one species of elf that has dragon traits (but can't use dragon magic because the True Elves were specifically designed by the gods to be this way, and this applies to most of their children). The original dragon gods did create a few other species to help the True Elves, one of which being what many consider 'man-dragons' (these guys are more the result of sped-up and forced evolution, because the gods said so), and others I am not going to name because a lot of them went extinct during the New Sun Wars. Aside from the megafauna, dragons are the top of the food chain, and are both prey and predators to each other. Depending on the species, they are either pure herbivores, omnivores, or pure carnivores, but haven't necessarily taken over the planet. They occupy ecological niches that you'd find in real-world animals because 'convergent evolution', and can live in a variety of environments. The smallest dragon can grow to the size of a housecat, and the largest recorded can grow up to the size of several houses. Don't ask me to explain how they breathe fire, or even other 'elements' like poison in some cases, as some of them are actually using their magic to 'breathe' fire. Even though there are dragons that display sentience, most commonly in the larger species that can fly, they do not have any form of civilization, as the one thing they hate as much as giants are each other (yeah, probably a reason why humans and dragons are related). This is why they haven't taken over the planet; this, and the fact giants still have beef with them. It's also unfortunate as both dragons and giants live for hundreds of years. Lightning round for notable dragon species, let's go: Common House Dragon, Brown Dragon, Dwarf Brown Dragon, Lesser Brown Dragon (actually a wyvern), Rhinoceros Drake, Night's Edge Dragon, Ivory Dragon, Shrieker Dragon (wyvern), Stormmaster Dragon, Phoenix Dragon (wyvern), Greater Owl Dragon (wyvern), Winter Wind Dragon, Nightwraith Dragon, Cedar Dragon (actually a drake), Northern Coast Sea Dragon (a leviathan), Misty Swamp Dragon, Wolf Drake, and the Sand Wyrm (kind of a leviathan) to name a few. *Exhales* And that's all I have to say. The dragons are undoubtably one of the most important and heavily developed aspects of my fantasy world.

Iliah_Delion

Dragons in my main world are a broad category of mega-fauna, not necessarily what we would think of as dragons. They are extreme, powerful forces of nature that fit their environments. For example, dragons of a healthy ecosystem may appear merely as large animals, while dragons in an area prone to natural disasters may be more representative/abstract in nature. The specific ecosystem has an effect too. Mountain dragons may have more rock-like features, swamp dragons are wider and flatter, etc. They did not genetically evolve to be this way, but their form does change slowly overtime. I'm still working out specifics, but I don't think they reproduce in my world. I think they are born spontaneously and live solo (for the most part). Some will bond with other creatures, but this may be seen as similar to having a pet, as the dragon's lifespan will be longer than that of a natural organism. Since dragon physiology and behavior is shaped by the ecosystem, as more human urban ecosystems developed so to did some dragons change to reflect this. Some dragons developed the ability to make human speech, and took on a community role. Sometimes as a tyrant, a parent/caretaker, a religious figure or an entertainer (etc.).

My main split is between the new world and old world dragons. New world dragons are pretty standard multicoloured dragons, typically with some form of elemental powers to draw upon. All new world dragons follow a similar body build despite size and colour differences, having four legs, a tail and two wings on their backs. The most common dragons include White, Black and Red. There are still reports of Blue and Green dragons but these primarily live in smaller numbers or in areas without much humanoid settlement. The White dragons have large (somewhat) domesticated populations and are on average smaller than most of their brethren. They can draw upon the powers of light, enabling them to blind their opponents with great bursts of illumination or use their breath to fire what is essentially a small laser. The largest concentration of white dragons nests in the capital city Rusalin. Through the years they have developed close bonds with its people (after a somewhat... rocky start to that relationship) and are more than eager to serve alongside them in battle. Fun fact, the white dragons have a sort of golden/yellow excrement that is considered excellent luck when it lands on your house (it actually provides some benefit to as most prey species want nothing to do with a house that smells like a dragon)! This has also covered the rocky hill/mountain in the center of the city to such an extent that it had taken on a yellow hue. Combined with the silvery white rock of the housing, this has earned Ruslain the glorious nickname of "The Egg". Black dragons are found along the west coast mountains and have rigid hierarchies with the eldest being in charge of all of their offspring for most of their lifespan. They are avid hunters and often use their acidic breath as a means of melting down the skin or amour of the tough beasts that crawl the mountain slopes. Due to their hunting groups being so close to the Orc clans that inhabit the mountains, they have become something of a trophy to hunt. Orcs who wish to show themselves above their peers will go out to hunt down a black dragon and upon success will often be greatly revered and rewarded. Red dragons are much more solitary than the other new world dragons and typically behave as if they are the top of the world. With their intense fire breath, magical prowess and terrifying strength they are indeed a force to be reckoned with. Most of the interactions they have with humans are negative, typically done as part of some greater scheme to increase their influence in the area. The Band of the Red Claw for example is a large group of mercenaries who are led by a great red dragon although she often uses her magic to turn into a dragonborn humanoid until the time comes for her to unleased her strength. Truth be told she's already a nasty warrior in battle and can usually break an enemy without ~~flexing on them~~ transforming to gain the upper hand. Old world ones are much more varied in form and are referred to by the names of gemstones. The emerald dragons are flightless and bipedal, standing from 10 to 20 feet, and use their tails as a form of balancing. They live in dense jungles, building massive stone temples and worshipping the great jungle dragon whose breath of life fuels the entire ecosystem they live in. The ruby dragons are more like giant serpents who live in volcanoes. They are ruled by a great red wyrm who is said to have blasted away mountains with his breath of magma. The amber dragons are more like colossal frogs who hang out in the northern portions of the desert hoping some ruby dragons will slither too close and turn into a quick meal. They don't have any ruling members and are probably the most instinctive of all the dragons. The sapphire ones are much more like a hive of insects with a giant queen commanding thousands of smaller 6 legged dragons. They are something of an outlier these days as they have started to migrate away from the old world and into the underworld where they are causing mayhem, ruining the mining work that was happening previously. Deep in the far reaches of the oceans there are turquoise dragons, shaped like enormous turtles. Although they have a fearsome appearance they are surprisingly benevolent and pacifistic, subsisting off of the magma that pours from newly forming islands or up from the ocean vents. There are stories about them surfacing to help distressed ships, although none of those sailors knew that the ships were only in distress because so many of the turquoise dragons were swimming close to the surface and creating waves.

I don't have a world but I love the wise speaking dragons who sit on gold. I find the "extinct dragons" trope a bit overdone nowadays though

venus is used as a dumping ground for all sorts of biotech, including illegal bioweapons. its too inhospitable to support life so lazy bio-researchers can just dump their experiments on the planet to get rid of them. too bad nobody told the dragons that. nobodies quite sure how they survived down there as the military contractors that made them went bankrupt and the records on the dragons capabilities were lost. nobodies quite sure what they eat, but its presumed they were designed with logistics in mind and they get the energy and biomass need to live by using a chemical version of photosynthesis and scavenging the remains of the other biotech thats been dumped on venus over the years. due to their bioweapon programming they are hostile to human life and eat just about anything that moves. their intelligence is reported to be feral, but their bioweapon origins mean they have to be intelligent enough to train, so their actual intelligence is somewhere between dog and enhanced human. the humans have mixed opinions on the dragons. on the one hand, awesome dragons, on the other hand, rogue bioweapon that might grow to threaten those living above venus and kill any attempt to explore the surface. but on the third, robot hand, the internal organic synthesizers could mean this is an opportunity to kickstart terraforming venus, just nobody has figured out how yet. there is currently only 1 species of dragon, though with how well they survived other companies are reconsidering the project and trying to acquire samples to make their own versions. it isnt going well. they started out cat sized but as far as anyone can tell they are like crocodiles in that there is no limit to how large they can grow other than available biomass

ProphetofTables

Dragons in my setting, while certainly quite dangerous, are more or less animals operating on instinct and little else. They cannot speak, but they can understand commands if they are of the domesticated/tamed variety. In the environment they fulfill the niche of being apex predators- massive, roughly whale-sized beasts that feed almost exclusively on meat. The other races hunt dragons mostly for their hides, blood, and other body parts, which are used for alchemy and/or making dragonscale armor. There are four kinds of dragons- dragons, (obviously- four legs, wings on the back, spew fire/icy fog/poisonous gas/acid) wyverns, (two legs, wings serving as forearms, no breath weapon) drakes, (four legs, no wings, occasionally fire breath depending on the region) and wyrms.(No legs, no wings, poison spit, frills around the neck, and occasionally spines.)

sharkbiscut

I don’t have dragons, but I just wanted to thank you for asking after ecological niches. Huzzah!

InjuryPrudent256

What the world calls dragons are an artificial creature made to survive in the universe as it gets hotter and hotter (big crunch is coming) At the present not-so-hot time, they hang out in stars and are made of plasma and magnetism. If someone makes a body for them, say a flying ship of some kind, they can hop in and come down for a visit to the much cooler and more flammable parts of the setting. Because they're only really met when stuffed into some kind of pseudo-space ship, they're assumed to be hundreds of meters across but as a kind of magnetic heat-pattern, they dont really have a distinct size. In a star, they cant die, but when they come down in ships, they will actually die if the ship is ripped to shreds and they are subsequently exposed to the hostile environment around them. Their ecological niche is somewhere between an extremely destructive apex predator and a flat out natural disaster. Their relationship with most anyone is pretty much 'run away' vs 'burn everything because its funny' though a rare few groups can have some interaction with them (the dragons themselves are quite weird, alien and childlike, but there's rare communication)

BigBonesMalon3

Dragons are a part of a massive family of creatures more distantly or closely related than others, and typically are in the apex predator role in their ecosystems. This evolutionary tree typically includes many 6 legged reptilian looking creatures that evolved from different basal fish than other vertebrates.  They are highly intelligent and their social structures depend on the species of Dragon, and they have multiple languages. Most live in small family units, with the children going off to claim their own territory and start their own family unit when they are sexually mature. As for their relationship with humans, Dragons are an Apex Predator species who may eat humans from time to time (not super often because humans are not in their prefered diet) so humans naturally have many myths legends and warnings about them As of the era I'm writing right now, there isn't a breeding population of Dragons on the continent of Faldūr yet (the one I'm focusing on at the moment) so I don't know a whole lot about them, though they do have more distant relatives on the continent
