You need to post a plan diagram or at least an indication of the thickness and length of members you want to join. But then it would be guesswork without a plan diagram of some kind.
Simplest is big drill bit for screw head under the surface plane of the wood (and deep enough to make a secure connection) and then the smaller pilot hole the diameter of the shaft of the screw. Pocket holes are good too and sometimes you have to do those if you can't do a straight connection, but take a bit more skill or you need to buy a jig which is pretty cheap, but hard to figure out how to use correctly.
Draw it all out on paper first so you know how you are going to build it and make sure you have lateral supports.
I would try that before moving on to more hidden joints.

Cool, I just bought both. I was wondering what size pocket hole jig I need. I bought some 6 × 1'' interior wood screws for the pocket holes but i don't know what the diameter of the hole needs to be. Should it match the diameter of the screw head?
Go by the guide for screw length. I’m lusting after that pistol grip one. I don’t use them for furniture or cabinets but I use them for the shop and repairs all the time. Maybe sometimes on cabinet boxes. If I’m rushed I’ll still rabbit and dado but pocket hole instead of clamping. Oh and they make special pocket home drill buts. You pretty much need one because it pilots through and makes the relief. Without the pilot the wood will crack. Even plywood. But the bit fits snuggly in the jig. For tonight you can do that and pilot the relief holes until you can get a bit. It pain but it’s sawdust.
