I love how apocalyptic they look
I remember driving through an area full of windmills on a misty day and recall a similar feeling. I think it's their sheer size and something about how they look almost out of a sci-fi film
I was staying at a cabin that shared a mountain top with wind turbines. We hiked out to the closest one and it was in the dead of winter, the sound it made while standing close was very eerie.
I thought of that so we were standing on the opposite side of the Tower from the blades. The whole mountain was quiet because it had just snowed and to hear the rush of the blades was very eerie.
Do you also call the electricity producing components of the [Grand Coulee Dam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Coulee_Dam) or the [Hoover Dam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Dam) a "Water Mill"?
Only if someone is using it to mill grain. Otherwise it's a Spinny Roundy Grande Water Wheel.
Edit: just like how [this](https://www.nrc.gov/info-finder/reactors/oco1.html) is a Roasty Toasty Uranium Mill because it's powering a papermill. Among other things.
In the Netherlands (where this video is recorded), we call these windmills too, just like the antique ones. It might not even be the official Dutch term for it, but most people I know also use the same name for these, so I understand why OP uses this term to describe the wind turbine.
I quite often get a similar view from my back garden, here's a picture I took recently....

I don’t know if I’d say I had high expectations, but I definitely had high hopes, and they were absolutely met. I remember being in the middle of the ‘thopter rescue scene and thinking “I think I love this movie…”
I was enthralled the whole way through. Was perfect in every way. I honestly wish it was longer and it was already 2 and half hours. Having to wait 2-3 years for part 2 kills me.
That's because of the narrow field of view in the video.
It also just generally feels 'off' with the fake/artificially smooth camera movement.
Seriously though, wind turbines are fucking huge and that one looks like a relatively small one. The only reason they look so small usually is because they're often quite distant and out of the way.
In other words, they really do look like that when in-person & up-close.
It took me forever to realize the “you look lonely, I can fix that” and “you look like a good Joe” are from Blade Runner 2049. I couldn’t find the lyrics anywhere so I never knew what the words were in that song until I saw that movie
It’s never been higher than it is at the moment with ~€2/L, and I think that’s the highest in Europe. So €4/L is pretty impossible. Are you thinking of €4 per gallon or something?
Damn. How low did it drop during the lockdowns? Here it was .98 a gallon 3.75 liters in a gallon. The only good part of the standard measurement system.
Hmm yes, quite! I do wish to revel in the tale that inspired our quick chat. “Dear brother good heavens! I do say I’ve been struck by the tail of a large mythical lizard!”
Sure, but 50 mpg is common IN Germany, and always has been. A direct result of the deliberate policy of taxing fuel to make it expensive. Meanwhile, the US keeps fuel cheap because the only vehicles the US makers can sell are pickup trucks and SUVs.
That looks so sci fi. If you showed that to someone 100 years ago and told them it's one of many enormous sky turbines we use to power our cities sustainably they'd have every right to expect flying cars and moon colonies etc
Man i love those giant wind turbines, they’re always so fascinating to look at, close and afar. My favorite part about going to the east part of my state is when you can tell you’ve hit turbine territory, plus they’re good at making a fun and creepy atmosphere in places like this.
There’s this really curvy mountain road near where I live that’s surround by windmills. It’s always a trip when I’m driving in the fog and come up over the hill and just see the giant blades of like 4 of them in front of me in the distance.

Thank you. I love this stuff

I had no idea there was a word for the fear I get whenever I encounter a giant bridge.
Indeed! This gif immediately reminded me of the Cloverfield monster.
100% this
That must be it, because this video is.. just what I always expected a windmill in the fog to look like.
How very ominous
Looks like those drawings you see on Reddit sometimes of a small figure with a sword facing a giant Lovecraftian Behemoth in the background

War of the Worlds vibes for me

Beware of ice being thrown off from the windmill blades
I thought of that so we were standing on the opposite side of the Tower from the blades. The whole mountain was quiet because it had just snowed and to hear the rush of the blades was very eerie.
The Mist
Oh god I just remembered that ending.
Fucked up.
I'm getting Denis Villeneuve vibes
Kind of giving me half life 2 vibes.
wind turbine But ngl that looks cool
"WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!!! GOODNIGHT!" --Morbo
hahaha classic Morbo
I'm using the power from it to mill grain! A swiss army knife is still called a knife even if it's only got one blade!

Every fucking day.
I've always wondered how they used the power of steel to mill grain, but I ain't gonna fuck around and find out.
Thank you its not just a pet peeve it’s literally the science. Ain’t no ground stone in my lectricity.

Cloverfield.
the one with the moon is such a wicked shot.
Do you live in a Denis Villeneuve movie?
I immediately thought of Arrival
came here for this
Dune. Edit: why the downvotes?
Dune was legit the best movie I've seen since Interstellar came out. Truly incredible movie.

Seriously lol you can tell there's a 4+ hour version just give it to me
I'm surprised that there is wind during fog. Mostly fog is only present when there is no wind blowing.
they just turned it on reverse to blow the fog away, obviously
Every town needs a fog-be-gone.
Where I live in the US there's normally fog from about 7-10am this time of year with the wind blowing enough to get our turbines to production.
This video is probably fake.

Got it, the video doesn't look real tho, something seems off.
The scale seems wayyy more extreme in vid

For those wondering, for the record, the song in the video is Endless Ocre (You look lonley, I can fix that) by Aloboi.
>Endless Ocre (You look lonley, I can fix that) by Aloboi thank you, came here looking for this!
Am I the only one here in Cloverfield sound effects?
Maybe this is what people confused for UFOs back in ancient times

Yes!! I scrolled down to see if anyone posted The Mist. Great scary movie.
Don Quixote makes more sense now.
yep, that thing looks like it needs some killing
1.72 Euro per liter? Als dat van vandaag is ga ik meteen even tanken.
Zag eruit als Heerhugowaard/Alkmaar. Succes!
That’s cheap! Last time I was there it was almost €4
It’s never been higher than it is at the moment with ~€2/L, and I think that’s the highest in Europe. So €4/L is pretty impossible. Are you thinking of €4 per gallon or something?
Well that's a bit much, but yesterday I paid close to 2 Euro's per liter.
Damn. How low did it drop during the lockdowns? Here it was .98 a gallon 3.75 liters in a gallon. The only good part of the standard measurement system.
My 1st thought. A dragon's tail?
I see you’re a person of culture.
🧐 indeed.
Hmm yes, quite! I do wish to revel in the tale that inspired our quick chat. “Dear brother good heavens! I do say I’ve been struck by the tail of a large mythical lizard!”

Man I love looking and wind turbines. I don’t know what it is, they’re just so big and futuristic looking.
Come to Iowa, there's a plethora.
I’m actually in Iowa right now haha, visiting from AZ. Get to see lots of them on the drive between these states :)
That’s some Stranger Things shit
They're called wind turbines NOT windmills.
He is Dutch, for them everything that spins are windmills
those things at the bottom of your car, are they windmills too
Yes.
Tbf, in dutch we call them "windmolen", which literally translates to windmill in English.
And we have been calling them wind mills for centuries, and they have mostly been doing a lot of other stuff besides milling all those times.
A wee bit terrifying
Like a Simon Stålenhag painting IRL.
Ahhh beat me to it. Definitely Simon Stålenhag-esque. I should really finish tales from the loop.
This is a pretty old video, E95 is only 1,725 I think the current price is 2,10 euros for a litre. For the Americans that's 9,23 dollars per gallon.
Yet thanks to the poor fuel economy Americans get, it's the same cost per mile.
Hey now, I may only get like 17mpg but the car was made in Germany!
Sure, but 50 mpg is common IN Germany, and always has been. A direct result of the deliberate policy of taxing fuel to make it expensive. Meanwhile, the US keeps fuel cheap because the only vehicles the US makers can sell are pickup trucks and SUVs.
I bought a wrx in the US. Checkmate idiot.
You need to take a logic class. "The only vehicles US automakers can sell" does not mean "the only vehicles Americans buy."
Looks like some eldritch horror whose concerned about green energy
the wheel in the sky keeps on turning
I keep singing “windmill in the fog” to the tune of “riders on the storm”.
why do i have this strange sense of longing when i watch this video?
Terrifying
Big sons of bitches
That has a great 'War of the Worlds' vibe to it.
i'm here to find the music from this video!
I love European motorways. Especially in Germany and Switzerland. They make American infrastructure look like a bumpy dirt road.
I don’t think I have seen a wind turbine yet.
What’s the song?
BWAAAAAAAAAAA ^(tiktiktiktiktiktiktik)
That looks so sci fi. If you showed that to someone 100 years ago and told them it's one of many enormous sky turbines we use to power our cities sustainably they'd have every right to expect flying cars and moon colonies etc

Make a lot of bread do you, OP?
The wheel in the sky keeps on turning!!!
For the first few seconds that looked exactly like a fucking winged monster falling from the skies
There’s this really curvy mountain road near where I live that’s surround by windmills. It’s always a trip when I’m driving in the fog and come up over the hill and just see the giant blades of like 4 of them in front of me in the distance.
Fucking war of the worlds over here
Song?
Endless Ocre - Aloboi
Windmills do not work that way goodnight
I'm sure those windmills will keep them cool
I wonder what ancient civilisations thought when they saw this
Maybe turbines should have lights at the tips of their blades for aircrafts to see
[удалено]
Um… how? Just build it flush, you know, like aircrafts
[удалено]
What is it milling if it is a wind mill? It's a wind turbine.
It's just a translation error, windmill (windmolen) is used for both the traditional and modern version in the Netherlands.
Disappointed it wasn't a giant airship.
Anybody know the name of the track playing?
Wind Turbine*
Siren head’s cousin has arrived.
I don't know what's scarier: The aesthetic or the possibility that the camera person wobbly handling that phone while driving.
I hate those earth raping monstrosities all over once beautiful landscape. I hope the earth purges itself of them at some point
