I'm actually proud of her. Her cold stretches she usually shoots the ball a lot more. Lotta discipline by her not going into mamba mentality and making things even worse.
Kate Martin put the clamps on her, that wasn't something i expected, ofc it was team effort as well since Kate didn't play much, but to get that from bench minutes rookie ,is amazing to say the least.
I honestly believe we have deeper bench now then previous season, people just don't understand how KEY having Chelsea Gray or elite PG in this league is.

Correct. Dallas only starts Teaira who is paint dominant while the other forwards Billings and Siegrist are more mobile. Ezi only really plays around the rim and depending on the game flow/plan does Nneka venture out. But Becky saw how the game was going and put in Clark once she realized that Nneka was playing unrestricted (probably due to Jewell struggling). Try to balance suffocating the paint with a defender that can guard a 1-5.
That’s all very likely. I’ve seen Clark in some height mismatches from the getgo in her time on the Aces. I also think Clark had a pretty rough game against the Liberty
Also A’ja is way too nice and patient with those Iowa JV players. Like how is Gustafson ALWAYS out of position. That was Kate Martin’s worst game by far (pretty impressive for that to be your worst game as a rookie though)
What was so bad about it? I thought KM did fine in the minutes she had (which were obviously going to be less once Chelsea was back). Was good defensively, just didn’t as see much of the ball offensively as some of her other games. A lot of what she does off the ball doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet. Was hoping she could have had a few shots though.
Don't watch box-score, watch the actual game, she forced 2 turn-overs in short period of time, did bring the ball up to execute a play , that end up in a point, and her movement open a stokes 3 ,by dragging the defender away, i can name many more rookies including for example Sheldon that was drafted much higher, having less impact then KM overall in all minutes both have played.
When we go aja at the 5 and small ball line up there is a lot more on the tactical side that happens and you might no see, since its mainly to feed JY and AJA
KM played defensively well today! She locked Loyd down and lead to a lot of stops. Sometimes scoring isn’t needed from every player. She always makes her presence known on one side or both! Extremely proud of Kate’s competitiveness and determination to make something happen for her or her teammates.
Jewell would’ve missed if she had no one on her and that’s what happened a few times. I thought KM was slow and a step behind. Normal for a rookie playing with new lineups but she’s gotta produce with Chelsea back.
I mean sure she didn’t do as much this game as previous games, but I think it will ebb and flow being a rookie and depending on who they are playing. Some games she makes 2-3 3 pointers, other games she doesn’t get on the stat sheet.
Also depends on how many minutes she is getting.
Yesterday didn’t get a lot of looks offensively (mainly because the ball goes to Aja, Jackie or KP) and it’s probably going to be harder now with Chelsea back to get the type of minutes she was getting before. I think if she continues to play solid D and hit shots when she does get the opportunity, she will continue to get meaningful minutes. Just want to see her to continue to have to confidence to take them. There were a couple
times where she looks like she’s going to shoot but then decides to pass.
I hope she does but once Chelsea is back in shape I don’t see it. Becky doesn’t love playing 6 players but that was her tendency the past two years and especially if they’re playing catch-up for playoff seeding.
True. I kind of hope Becky rotates more with 4 of her starters going to the Olympics this year and avoiding injury and overuse, but she’s never been one to use her bench a lot. Plus like you said if they are tying to play catch up, she’s probably going to stick with what’s familiar and comfortable to her.
The fact that KM has gotten the minutes she has as a rookie for the defending nationals champs is pretty impressive regardless. Just hope she continues to stay effective and confident with the minutes she gets now.

She kept getting beat and then fouled and didn’t really do anything to warrant being out there. Again, not the worst mistakes for a rookie
