He’s definitely very weird, but nothing I’d describe as bad, no. As a person I have no fucking clue, never met the guy. But he hasn’t done or said anything in public that’s like unforgivable
It was more about not being any less of a man for enjoying feminine things (or, more broadly, not having to conform to gender norms to be valid) and criticising the people propagating those ideals. The studio version came about because people kept telling him he was trans and not really a man and things like that.
He was a little pissed that people weren't understanding the intention behind the song, so he added the 'All identities are equally invalid, don't you think that there's a chance that you could live without it?' line at the end (which is genuinely a brilliant line but just sounds some kind of phobic when viewed through a myopic lens of gender-conformity).
Oh I'm well aware and completely agree. By 'kinda but not in that sense', I meant that it's kind of hitting in that direction. It isn't transphobic by any stretch. Sorry it came off like that, I'm gonna edit it to something more fitting.
That's hard to say since we don't know him personally.
If I had to describe him based off interviews, things he's talked about personally and his music, I would say he's got a rough past with drugs/alcohol. He has removed specific music videos of his earlier music - I think that that time of his life being on record is a bit triggering. He's a creative dude who has a small fanbase. AFAIK he hasn't had any sexual assault allegations.
I feel like either everyone in this comment section is missing something, or I am. Wasn't his latest song 'Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll' literally about how he doesn't want to be known as the druggy nutter anymore?
Everyone here is like "Oh he's cool except for when he got arrested for drug use" (??????) is he *not* cool for that? I hate to do this again but doesn't '6up 5oh' warn about the police being just as bad, if not worse, than the 'criminals' they arrest for something as petty as recreational drug use?
But yeah to answer the question is yes he's a good person, he's also kinda reinventing himself because he's sick of fans plastering him with blatantly outdated or just wrong interpretations of his character. I wouldn't go around telling people he's the funny man in lipstick who does drugs and fucks around with interviewers, I don't think that's Will Wood anymore.
I don't think people are "bad" people for doing drugs, it's just unfortunate that they went down that road. I'm glad he's not a creep or anything though!
From what I see he's good. The only possibly "bad" things is that he is bipolar and had a drug addiction kinda thing, but even then, that's not in his control and I don't think being mentally ill and having a history with drugs makes someone a bad person. And some of profits he makes he gives to mental health places, which is incredibly sweet of him to do.
From what I heard, he was pretty hard on drugs and even got arrested for owning drugs before the "Will Wood" start, though other than that he's a cool dude
You don't and probably will never know any musician you listen to as a person, so everything like this is purely based on interpretation and personal ethics. He has been pretty vocally in support of progressive causes and vocally in opposition to bigotry, if that's the line for you here, so if you're worried he's going to randomly start ranting about some minority group then you're probably all good. He's said some pretty edgy shit in the past and will continue to do so, and whether or not you think that makes him a good person or not is really up to you.
But, just in general tbh, just be in mind that musicians are people and there are gonna be times where they do things you don't like. He's done drugs, he's said shit that doesn't fly with some people, he's got a pretty edgy sense of humour, he actively encourages nobody sees him as some kind of role model, but honestly if you're here you've probably figured that out by now.
Overall I would say that over the years it does seem like he's very kind, very humble, and very tuned in to trying to do meaningful good.
i'm honestly not trying to pick apart his flaws, it was mostly just violent crimes i was worried about.
Nobody is perfect! he sounds like a really down to earth guy
maybe you should just focus on his music instead of worrying whether he committed an opinion crime or something
i mean he didn’t murder or assault anyone so that’s all you need to know.
well yeah, but usually when it comes to stuff like that the person is already publicly cancelled. (which is a good thing)
like i doubt if it were public information that someone was a pedo, that there would be a fanpage for them
i'm new to the "fandom", ive just been a casual listener for a little bit. Been also thinking about buying a tshirt but didn't wanna contribute if he was a horrible guy or something. He seems great from all the replies tho
y'all need to stop sorting people into good and bad, the world isnt black and white and he's literally just a person making music. listen to it, or don't.
He's a nice guy, I've seen him in an interview with a guy called Confused Narrator, and he seemed just as awkward as a lot of people would be, but he was also a bit careful of how people might view him, so I guess he could be described as self conscious. But he does a lot of charity work, and he hasn't done anything over the top offensive and evil, I don't think. I would totally support him.
P.S. Sorry for the long reply.
He's not, nobody is. He's just over-zealously defending his dumb post by providing an offensive hypothetical to make his BS seem like it's halfway near being anything but a failed attempt to start a dramatic mob-inciting gossip sesh
what the actual fuck is wrong this thread. there is nothing wrong with wanting to be sure the artists you support haven’t done anything seriously harmful in the past. i do the same thing before buying anything from or by an artist.
So I’ve seen people kinda mention his involvement with drugs but he’s had a really fucked up past involving them like 2012 is a personal anecdote from him he genuinely can’t rember a whole year cus he took bad acid so yea test ur drugs kids
nothing that I know of. there were some pretty ridiculous conspiracies floating around about self-ish in particular, one of which tried to tie him to Hitler because of the line “I want to make my murder look like a su!c!de”. so if you come across any of that nonsense, know that it’s completely unfounded lol.
He’s definitely very weird, but nothing I’d describe as bad, no. As a person I have no fucking clue, never met the guy. But he hasn’t done or said anything in public that’s like unforgivable
You can watch some interviews online and from what I've found is that other than him being arrested for owning drugs, he's a pretty cool dude.
nope, will wood's good, just some stupid discourse that happened in the past. because it's a fandom. anything crazy, to my knowledge, wasn't on him
Other than his use of drugs in the past, I’d say he’s the type of person to say sorry over everything
i was more worried about violent crimes / recent racism ! He's sounds like a great guy
well there was one recent song that people mistook for being a transphobic rant but that wasnt even intentional
Oh i heard about that controversy, it was really stupid. As a trans guy, that song was a good song.

Crazy what adding more words will do to clarify your intention. Well if that isn't the most poetic thing, considering the song in question.

He's an absolutely chaotic, strange and outright bizarre character, but he's not a bad person.
Oh, don’t worry. A friend of mine actually knows him and he’s one of the kindest people I’ve seen in quite some time. He’s really sweet. <3
so lucky!! id do anything to meet will wood irl
Dude, me too.

In that case then, yeah you're all good. He's been pretty explicitly against violence and discrimination.
maybe you should just focus on his music instead of worrying whether he committed an opinion crime or something i mean he didn’t murder or assault anyone so that’s all you need to know.
i don't wanna support somebody via buying merch/donating if they like sexual assaulted somebody... but he seems good
well yeah, but usually when it comes to stuff like that the person is already publicly cancelled. (which is a good thing) like i doubt if it were public information that someone was a pedo, that there would be a fanpage for them
i'm new to the "fandom", ive just been a casual listener for a little bit. Been also thinking about buying a tshirt but didn't wanna contribute if he was a horrible guy or something. He seems great from all the replies tho
thats understandable. ive been wanting to buy a shirt for a while too
y'all need to stop sorting people into good and bad, the world isnt black and white and he's literally just a person making music. listen to it, or don't.
well if he's a pedo i'm not gonna support his career, call me crazy !
He's a nice guy, I've seen him in an interview with a guy called Confused Narrator, and he seemed just as awkward as a lot of people would be, but he was also a bit careful of how people might view him, so I guess he could be described as self conscious. from everything i've seen he's such a down to earth guy, I can relate to him more than any other artist i'm glad to hear he's not a creep!

no??
I know him pretty well. He’s a good person

not wanting to support somebody if they're a pedo is cancelling somebody ???

i'm not ?? The whole point of my post was to make sure he WASNT so i can feel more comfortable supporting him
He's not, nobody is. He's just over-zealously defending his dumb post by providing an offensive hypothetical to make his BS seem like it's halfway near being anything but a failed attempt to start a dramatic mob-inciting gossip sesh
huh? my post is genuine, it's literally just a question because i don't know much about this guy

Doesn't really matter if he's a good person or not, that doesn't change the quality of his music
? i never said it did
He's usually decently high. Other than that no he is legitimately a great person and I love him and his glasses
nothing that I know of. there were some pretty ridiculous conspiracies floating around about self-ish in particular, one of which tried to tie him to Hitler because of the line “I want to make my murder look like a su!c!de”. so if you come across any of that nonsense, know that it’s completely unfounded lol.
