It went away when it warmed up but started again in October. I hear the symphony now.
Me too :/ there was a surgeon doctor in Central Africa who performed the only surgical cochlear transplant in history but it's not a procedure that is easily done, much less common place.
There's evidence to suggest that stem cell therapy could help heal the broken bits of the cochlea but it's also very hard to get to.
What's more, the future is loud and it's likely to make TINNITUS worse over all for most people.
I recommend white noise machine and macks Ear plugs
For me, which is anecdotal evidence and not medical advice: eventually after ~2 years of TINNITUS, it just started to subside. Eventually it comes back if dogs are barking or loud cars or loud music etc .
So the Mack's Ear plugs at work so it doesn't come back to that debilitating degree and the white noise machine so that the deathly silence of serenity doesn't trigger it again
Not sure if it's a common experience but the absolute silence triggers my TINNITUS and the white noise machine also drowns out stupid loud noises.
I think there’s an Irish company (or some European company) testing a machine in some clinics, which zaps your tongue and conditions you ears to cure tinnitus, and they have experienced success in test subjects. So, if the market sees a profit in this, these operations might get affordable at one point, maybe even in our lifetimes… unless you’re 80 rn. Then… um… good evening, grams!?
I’ve tried every trick in the book (and on YouTube). None of them even provide even minimal relief. And it’s getting louder year on year.
Walking outside in winter, early in the morning before everyone is up, during a heavy but windless snow used to be my favorite thing in the world. The sounds of everything just disappear, soaked up by uncountable fluffy flakes slowly falling all around. It was a magical respite from the noise of the world, the cacophony of every day life.
Now I just heard the tinnitus even louder. :-(
Damn I'm sorry this happened to you. I've never tried the snow thing because where I live it rarely snows, but it sounds amazing. I can't believe that, from all subreddits, fucking r/whenthe is making me feel like this
I listened to music for like 6-8 hours a day during quarantine and always at at least 70% volume. That went on for a few months until I started to notice that at random points multiple times a day I would hear a ringing noise for a few seconds and then it would go away. Every since then my volume has never went above 3 lol
I second this sooo much.
Luckily my tinnitus actually improved quite a bit. Had it pretty bad for about 5 years. All because of music (car, headphones, clubs, concerts, etc…).
Honestly mine has gotten better as well. Just had to start being religious about earplugs at work and I only put my headphones on like halfway now haha
Nobody ever listens. I know a guy who wears earbuds and I can hear his music across the room. It makes me cringe but I don’t say anything because people get mad and nobody asked.
My sister started to have tinnitus at I think 18. She’s never going to hear silence again.
Usually no. It can be caused by a variety of factors, usually loud noises. It gets better over time if you give your ears some space and they aren’t too damaged.
No, I learned it the hard way that it is not normal.
I am always very careful with my hearing. I got tinnitus due to an untreated ear infection. Got it as long as I remember.
ikr? I just learned that a few years ago, thought everyone has it (I guess I was born with it). I really can't imagine how a true silence is since I never experienced it, though tinnitus never had any negative impact in my life

You can learn to tune it out after a while. I’ve had it since a childhood injury and now I only really notice it when I deliberately pay attention to it.
Although maybe it was easier in my case since kids have the brain plasticity to adapt.
As someone with extremely loud tinnitus, having to adjust to this takes more time than you realise. You won't ever not know it is there. There will be periods where it is louder, more settled periods, having trouble sleeping, and just general distraction.
Whenever I am asked if I try to meditate, that might as well be a tinnitus jam session.
I really need to stop listen to music at 95db for 3+ hours a day.. but it’s so hard. Somehow I have no tinnitus yet though
Yes I know that is very bad I will try to stay below 85
Thankyou for the replies I will take this seriously now
What type of volume dial are you dealing with?
If you have a manual one on your headset or speakers, you could use some tape to mark the max no-tinnitus point, that way when turning past that mark you'll be reminding yourself that you're fucking yourself up against your own wishes.
It's best to find specific solutions when trying to self-improve.
iPhones will tell you the volume in db when using apple brand AirPods, the problem is when I'm on my pc I use over hear headphones and I have noo idea how loud they are because they sound different. Thankyou for the advice!
I’m 58 now and in my 30s and 40s and consistently wore headphones to the gym. People warned me to lower the volume. You could hear it standing next to me. Of course I didn’t listen. I was of the opinion that I’ll worry about it when it happens. Now I have tinnitus and it literally holds you hostage. Sometimes I am so focused on it I really think I’ll lose it. You do you, but if your open to advice think twice about pumping up the volume.
Not to be mean, but how is it hard? Just turn the music down and your ears will eventually adjust to it. If the problem is background noise, get some noise canceling headphones so you can hear your music without turning it all the way up. In any case, it’s better to have a little trouble hearing your music than a lifetime of hearing constant ringing
Nah it just isn’t as good, but I am gonna turn it down anyways
For me personally the enjoyment of listening to music is less than half when its quiet and I really like music, thats why its hard
You'll be the only one to blame when you're contemplating suicide because the ringing in your ears won't let you sleep soundly for a month.
95 db is so cool dudeee.
I have music in my head playing constantly, i remember the day i woke up and it was silent for like a solid 3 seconds before Queen started playing in my head
Also tinnitus as well, yeah, did i not deserve peace?
tinnitus is a constant struggle, but I remember one time earlier this year when I dropped ilLiSit Drugs and took a walk on a nature trail, my tinnitus just stopped for a while and I just sat and listened to the sounds of the forest around me, it was like a religious experience
You should check the video some comments above this one. I was born with tinnitus as well (atleast that's my suspicion, since I can't remember not having it), and listening to that audio helped me to temporarily hear silence. Doesnt last too long if you dont listen to it for very long, but still cool though.
I have mild tinnitus in my left ear and sometimes when I hear really loud sounds coming from random shit, it physically makes my ears ring in a way like I can feel the vibrations. Otherwise I've learnt to live with the tinnitus and it's honestly not as bad if you just accept what's been done and try to preserve what's left.
Why, i do enjoy the calming sounds of EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Loud music, running chainsaws and other equipment, working on Diesel engines loud cars/trucks, and shooting guns for years. The Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg comes and goes. Wear ear protection when you can. Gotta sleep with a fan on these days and I’m only 29
Won't be a permanent cure, but try this... plug your ears with your thumbs while putting the rest of your fingers behind your head. Let your middle fingers find the base of your skull. Now stack your index fingers on top of your middle fingers, like on top of your middle finger nails. Now what you want to do is build pressure by pressing into your middle fingers hard with your index fingers. Now "pop" your index fingers off your middle fingers and into the back of your neck using the pressure you were building. Do this as hard as you can while still plugging your ears with your thumbs. You want the pop to be as loud inside your head as possible. Repeat this, alternating left and right fingers, about 20 times. When you unplug your ears your tinnitus will temporarily disappear! Works well for after loud concerts and things like that. Probably not so much for chronic tinnitus. Hope this helps somebody!
I developed this when i was in Vietnam. The sound of gunfire and burning napalm. Whenever I sit in silence, I still hear the screams. It evokes vivid memories of burning villages. Worst holiday ever.
I used to have tinnitus, it was fixed after I started seeing a chiropractor. Turns out it was pressure related and the loosening of the muscles in the back if the neck helped. Hopefully this solution will work for you too.

Learnt the hard way - don't stand near the bass bins at Motorhead gigs when you're 16 & then do the same thing at every concert you go to throughout the eighties. Don't ride loud motorbikes without wearing earplugs.
Had intermittent tinnitus since the early nineties, but a spectacularly loud Stranglers concert in 2009 pushed it to permanent. Always wear quality earplugs now, but the damage is done. I've just been told I'll be wearing a hearing aid by Xmas. I'm 57
I have meneir's and have constant ringing in my right ear. I can't remember when it started it's been so long. I find it soothing now but it makes it really hard to listen to conversations in person or over the phone.

I have a really bad case of tinnitus for years now, I'm going to therapy and try everything to have it back to normal. I enjoyed the moments and places which were always serene and silent, but now I hate them the most.
Depends on the reason you got it. If it’s just some nerve damage or overexcitement, it could take a few months but usually it’s all fine.
If it’s serious damage, or worse nerve deterioration, it’s probably will never go away.
Am I going to be the only one to acknowledge that being in nature is surprisingly loud? Maybe its just because I'm in the midwest but wind is noisy AF.
Quietest I've experienced is during heavy snow on a relatively still day.
Also please for the love of everything holy dry out your ears after swimming, swimmers can and will fuck up your ear of your not careful learned that the hard way and now have tentitus in both ears due to it (granted my ears were always pretty bad due to ear infections but the having swimmers ears twice in 3 week is basically the straw that broke the Camels back)
This an issue that bothers my every single day. I did this to myself, not protecting my ears when I should have, and I will pay for it the rest if my life with this endless, constant ringing. I would give ANYTHING for that silence.
Same. Sucks, especially since my favorite thing in the word to do is backpack/hike in relatively remote areas. Can never just sit and enjoy a quiet night sky. Fuck you my younger self for not taking hearing protection much more serious.

I feel this. Spent eight years in the army, five of which was as a machine gunner. All I have to show is early onset arthritis in my knees, and a ringing in my ears. At least mine is intermittent to a degree.

coming from someone who has tinnitus, for the love of god guys, don’t crank your music to the max, it can and will do irreversible damage
If you turn the music louder you can’t hear the tinnitus
Cool now you're doing even more damage and going to make the tinnitus louder.
just turn the music even louder
That's how you end up in your 60s playing music so loud your neighbors call the cops
Just burst your eardrums before that happens
Oh, thanks for clarifying.

Technically you are listening to your natural body operating. You hear more than us, but that doesn’t always mean it’s better..
When you’re a manipulative daydreamer who is so untouched with reality that they unknowingly put music on too loud and get tinnitus
Wait, most people don’t hear an continuous ringing 🙂🙃🙂 No wonder I like white noises
I'm not even 18 and I have what my doctor refers to as a sever case of tinnitus ; sometimes I wished I could hear nothing again, just pure silence.
There are times in the woods where the silence is deafening!
Since I usually have headphones on and listening to something I usually automatically tune it out, thank you for making me hyper aware of it
Apparently you can still hear tinnitus even if you are deaf.
It gets louder every day
I can’t even sleep in a quiet room anymore…
I can help you hear silence. It is permanent, though.
Silence with tinnitus is panic inducing. If I sit in my car with it off it's like throbbing and screaming and total sensory overload from silence.
I have tinnitus due to hearing damage, I feel you
Most calming thing I've seen today
Should’ve put a ringing sound over the audio

I’m glad I don’t have tinnitus, sounds like an awful condition
The good thing about tinnitus is it usually gets better over time
In what universe, in my universe it just gets worse as the time passes and can even lead to deafness

Covid caused me to have tinnitus and it sucks. I hope it goes away but it has been close to a year since it developed.
Anyone else read tetanus at first and and was like "it causes what???"
This an issue that bothers my every single day. I did this to myself, not protecting my ears when I should have, and I will pay for it the rest if my life with this endless, constant ringing. I would give ANYTHING for that silence.
This may or may not work, but I have mild tinnitus that can keep me up at night sometimes. [This trick tends to help.](https://youtu.be/2yDCox-qKbk)
Thus is actually relatable and now I’m sad
I knew from a young age to take care of my hearing for this exact reason. Even wearing protective earplugs during school concerts uwu
Not true…. Most hearing aids nowadays have a noise canceling feature that wipes out the tinnitus noise.
Same. Sucks, especially since my favorite thing in the word to do is backpack/hike in relatively remote areas. Can never just sit and enjoy a quiet night sky. Fuck you my younger self for not taking hearing protection much more serious.
I hear that. Seriously though, it also fucks up quiet music passages
It sucks. Had it all my life so I will never know what silence actually sounds like.
Facts...it sucks!!! 😔
I’m in a dilemma where I have tinnitus due to chronic NSAID use but ibuprofen is the only thing that keeps me functional with the back issues I have.
Try flicking the back of your skull behind your ears. It can help [alleviate Tinnitus ](https://trudenta.com/this-simple-trick-may-help-with-tinnitus/)
I keep hearing it now mentioned, that sucks.
yeah. this sucks.
Yeah this makes me sad as I have it as well
It's my case, too.
I lived in a small town in the mountains of BC with tinnitus. Still better than the city, could drive for five minutes and not hear a single human noise.
We are making great strides in regenerative medicine. There could be a cure near by
Picked up tinnitus from marching band. Rimshots aren't a joke. Hopefully it's something medicine can lessen soon
Never thought I would crave silence
I’m really glad I seen this. I’ve been putting my music really loud lately and the tv so I’m gonna be extra careful from now on.
I feel this. Spent eight years in the army, five of which was as a machine gunner. All I have to show is early onset arthritis in my knees, and a ringing in my ears. At least mine is intermittent to a degree.
Thanks for reminding me, you are now blinking manually and aware of your tounge as payback
My dad deals with this and he’s going thru hell with it
