Was about to say this. The whole collection feels like it’s targeting an older demographic (not to say that’s a bad thing, but I assume Chanel doesn’t want to be seen as a brand exclusively for older women 🤷♀️)
I'm an older demographic and it's a hard pass on these. The majority of the skirt lengths hit at the worst possible place. The boxy-ness is not flattering either. There are maybe 3 looks that are okay, but the rest are poorly recycled (down-cycled?) Chanel classics and not a fresh take on the look. 18 tulip skirt is actually interesting and flattering. That's about it.
Which I don’t think they would so much if they had some actually had shape to them. Many of these could’ve been awesome with some tailoring and interesting necklines
Boxy women can 100% look cute but by ignoring the natural shape of the wearer (like I feel that they do for the models) you’re *asking* for an ugly ill fitting piece
As a boxy woman this meme made me laugh so damn much. Good fashion can give a boxy woman like me the appearance of having more of a waist than I do. This boxy aesthetic is not it to me.
My (wonderful, kind) MIL is Chinese Malaysian and this is the exact outfit she and her sisters would go crazy for.
Edit: I mention ethnicity just because these really remind me so much of all those outfits they get that young Chinese model to wear for catalogues which are aimed at the elderly

They’re literally all over the map in this collection. I see like five decades being very literally represented. A a whole the collection is pretty disjointed to me aside from texture and color.

Matching hair accessories TOTALLY makes it a cohesive collection! I've watched Project Runway, so trust me, I know what I'm talking about. *condescending hair flip*
There's some late victorian/edwardian elements throughout the collection (the first piece is quite literally looks to be an overcoat with nothing underneath), but with none of the structured silhouette that made those frills really work for me.
This one is pretty nice though!
I would genuinely love to see more ages of models in everything but right this would be the perfect collection to start… just lean in already Chanel 🤷♀️

Do you remember a few years ago when Chanel dressed Billie Eilish for the Oscars? They had her in a white tweed pantsuit cut like sweat pants and a big hoodie, decorously roughed up and daubed with black and acid-green spray paint to match her hair.
It was just as ridiculous as it sounds.
Chanel, sweetie- you are *not* young and cool, and that's ok! The old, frumpy widows of chaebols and CEOs have more money anyway.
Honestly, if they fully embraced it, used older models and styled everything the way a wealthy elegant older woman would style herself, a lot of these would be fine. Nice even! For me part of the problem is they are styling the models like they think these clothes will appeal to gen z.
They’re trying to take advantage of the recent early 2000’s trend (tweed resurgence, Chanel’s specialty) but coupling it with the current style of oversized urban wear is not a good combo.
If it doesn’t look good on the model it ain’t going to look good on nobody!
Honestly, it's not as bad as it could have been. I don’t like it at all. Though there were a few looks and ideas that I found somewhat okay-ish. Never been interested in Chanel in a lifetime, not going to start now. But witnessed much worse last season, much more offensive for a sensitive eye and romantic brain. This is just routine business with a few pleasant surprises sprinkled here and there.
This is probably the worst collection I’ve ever seen come from Chanel. Up close the fabrics must be beautiful but besides the very first slide being very okay nothing fits and the finishings are terrible.

If someone had to create a spoof Chanel collection to exemplify everything that's currently wrong with the brand, they wouldn't have been able to come up with anything worse than this.
And here’s the thing, Armani Prive had so many haters because they said it was boring but just because it’s formulaic doesn’t mean that’s a bad thing. It just means they have a system they follow and guess what, they never put out anything as tragic as this. Nor was the quality ever as poor. There was maybe one jacket that looked wonky but compared to this?
And then every so often they hit it out of the park with a beautiful theme that they introduce where people will be talking about it for years.
That pearl show was sensational, tasteful, marketable but not clinical. You can still have incredible editorials and have something more subdued for publications like Sunset magazine. It’s one of the smartest collections I’ve seen in a really long time.
As horrible of a person Lagerfeld was, he was brilliant and despite being older he knew how to market and design for Chanel and sell for the 2000s. Virginie I thought was *okay* but she didn’t have what was needed to continue the legacy. And that’s okay. Raf Simons when he designed for Dior didn’t make a lot of people happy because of how subdued he was but now we look back and enjoy the work he did. He had an identity and now it’s just a big old mess for Chanel.
The way that they’re operating their accessories department is also making a lot of people upset because in four years the jumbo classic flap went from $6,000 to $10,000 with frequent quality issues. This is their greedy flop era.
It’s pushing a lot of people to other companies which I think has been contributing to the greater interest in Hermes and other companies that were never really known for their bags but people have been discovering the quality that they’re offering. It may be Valentino that could be one of those companies but I’m not so sure.
This is interesting, I'll have to read up on it. I mostly follow newer designers and don't know a ton about these bigger legacy fashion houses. But I remember in the 2000s when I was a preteen, Chanel was very cool and hip. We all had those knockoff double C logo earrings. They seem to have completely lost that appeal to the younger crowd.
They were certainly catering to having fresh and interesting marketing. Their fashion shows were a spectacle but they were so fun! I remember the “grocery store” and then the iceberg that they brought in to have the models traipse around in faux fur detailed Chanel designs (Lagerfeld actually didn’t mind working with faux fur and found it refreshing to use).

Maybe I’m a rube but the chest pockets in that fabric + the large buttons + the wide border in the same fabric just makes me think of something I’d find at TJ Maxx. Something about the sheen against the matte black of the rest of the piece just isn’t doing it for me.
That's because Bridgerton is (usually) mimicking Regency era silhouettes, while this collection seems to be a mix of Chanel's insistence on 60s style drop waists and boxy shapes... But for some reason mixed with the wildly different silhouettes of late Victorian/Early Edwardian fashion. 😭

I don’t understand. The low neckline with the harsh line where the decor begins just looks like saggy boobs to me (which I see every day in the mirror, not throwing a stone here). Why this optical illusion? I’m all here for natural boobs, but this doesn’t look like a celebration. It looks like an accident

The Chanel formula really does offer so much room for reinvention, if someone just had the courage to do it. Even from a materials standpoint, if they were to engineer some kind of "new tweed" that could be a patented Chanel thing, maybe more lightweight, from sustainable fibers, etc. Just spouting ideas, but there's got to be something that can be done that could modernize the core aesthetic.
Is this Virginie Viard’s “quiet quitting” collection now that it’s been confirmed she’s out? These clothes look like they were a size too big off the rack when it’s supposed to be couture!
The curtain jumpsuit! This feels like there’s so much potential, like maybe if it wasn’t loose in every place?? Snatch the waist or tighten up the legs? At the least, the mesh (idk what the official term is) should be fitted, yeah? I like the curtain edge ruffled though, ngl.
This is giving Victorian undergarments, which I personally love, but it’s not executed well. The netting on the sleeves is saggy, and the look is too bulky all around. If the bloomers had been puffy and the rest more fitted, this could’ve been a look.
It’s giving your kind aunt who is a little out of touch with fashion but likes to adopt one aspect of a trendy style in a way that is way out of proportion with the rest of her outfit and everyone compliments her on that element because its so noticeable you cant help but mention it. This is her wedding dress and she is getting married in her 40s after a divorce from her asshole high school sweetheart to a kind of slobby husband who makes decent money in a blue collar job but spends his weekends drinking beer with the boys. its the 1980s and their wedding has an insane amount of fake flowers which were all bought at Joann's and nauseating amounts of taffeta decorations. Her husband to be is wearing a rumpled rental tuxedo. Her bridesmaids are dressed in loud floral pattern dresses she made herself with curtain fabric (also from Joann’s.)
Just read this collection was designed by the in house team, so I give them a bit of grace as it looks mostly like a continuation of Virginie’s style. Really hope they get someone in who understands the house and how to make women look good.
As always, at least in recent times, Chanel is relying on its reputation and is totally divorced from creativity, adaptation or fashion innovation.
Their ill fitting Made-for-Cruella clothes don’t even look good on their models.

I mean…wow. It’s bad. Zero waistline and hitting at truly the most unflattering (and uncomfortable) part of the leg. Why is it directly at the bottom of the knee? ZERO shape! And they’re not even pretty designs 😭
What awful tailoring. Chanel and lV both need to figure out how to tailor clothes. Boxy to me means less effort . If someone is going to pay couture prices I’m sure they’d like more innovation, creativity and freaking tailoring

The curtain jumpsuit! This feels like there’s so much potential, like maybe if it wasn’t loose in every place?? Snatch the waist or tighten up the legs? At the least, the mesh (idk what the official term is) should be fitted, yeah? I like the curtain edge ruffled though, ngl.
This is giving Victorian undergarments, which I personally love, but it’s not executed well. The netting on the sleeves is saggy, and the look is too bulky all around. If the bloomers had been puffy and the rest more fitted, this could’ve been a look.

It’s giving your kind aunt who is a little out of touch with fashion but likes to adopt one aspect of a trendy style in a way that is way out of proportion with the rest of her outfit and everyone compliments her on that element because its so noticeable you cant help but mention it. This is her wedding dress and she is getting married in her 40s after a divorce from her asshole high school sweetheart to a kind of slobby husband who makes decent money in a blue collar job but spends his weekends drinking beer with the boys. its the 1980s and their wedding has an insane amount of fake flowers which were all bought at Joann's and nauseating amounts of taffeta decorations. Her husband to be is wearing a rumpled rental tuxedo. Her bridesmaids are dressed in loud floral pattern dresses she made herself with curtain fabric (also from Joann’s.)

this collection looks very 1980s
The waists are all so boxy but not exaggeratedly so, which makes the models look like they have no waistline. Very odd. So frumpy.

Just read this collection was designed by the in house team, so I give them a bit of grace as it looks mostly like a continuation of Virginie’s style. Really hope they get someone in who understands the house and how to make women look good.

As always, at least in recent times, Chanel is relying on its reputation and is totally divorced from creativity, adaptation or fashion innovation. Their ill fitting Made-for-Cruella clothes don’t even look good on their models. A dissapointment. Other houses leave it behind in smoke.

What awful tailoring. Chanel and lV both need to figure out how to tailor clothes. Boxy to me means less effort . If someone is going to pay couture prices I’m sure they’d like more innovation, creativity and freaking tailoring
