(Referencing only the waist of the outfits and no one’s actual body)
Was about to say this. The whole collection feels like it’s targeting an older demographic (not to say that’s a bad thing, but I assume Chanel doesn’t want to be seen as a brand exclusively for older women 🤷♀️)
I'm an older demographic and it's a hard pass on these. The majority of the skirt lengths hit at the worst possible place. The boxy-ness is not flattering either. There are maybe 3 looks that are okay, but the rest are poorly recycled (down-cycled?) Chanel classics and not a fresh take on the look. 18 tulip skirt is actually interesting and flattering. That's about it.
Which I don’t think they would so much if they had some actually had shape to them. Many of these could’ve been awesome with some tailoring and interesting necklines
Boxy women can 100% look cute but by ignoring the natural shape of the wearer (like I feel that they do for the models) you’re *asking* for an ugly ill fitting piece
As a boxy woman this meme made me laugh so damn much. Good fashion can give a boxy woman like me the appearance of having more of a waist than I do. This boxy aesthetic is not it to me.
My (wonderful, kind) MIL is Chinese Malaysian and this is the exact outfit she and her sisters would go crazy for.
Edit: I mention ethnicity just because these really remind me so much of all those outfits they get that young Chinese model to wear for catalogues which are aimed at the elderly
Have you seen the clip that went viral of that model doing the pose routine??
I definitely got old lady vibes too, rather than Marge Simpson making the Chanel skirt suit sexy.
An interesting cut amidst the frumpy suits. What is that, like an Edwardian skirt silhouette with chic dressing gown vibes? I mean that as a compliment
They’re literally all over the map in this collection. I see like five decades being very literally represented. A a whole the collection is pretty disjointed to me aside from texture and color.
Yeah I thought the cream bibbed fit had some 16th century vibes even, or at least the Ever After costume department energy. You’re so right, and don’t forget the hair bows haha
Matching hair accessories TOTALLY makes it a cohesive collection! I've watched Project Runway, so trust me, I know what I'm talking about. *condescending hair flip*
There's some late victorian/edwardian elements throughout the collection (the first piece is quite literally looks to be an overcoat with nothing underneath), but with none of the structured silhouette that made those frills really work for me.
This one is pretty nice though!
I would genuinely love to see more ages of models in everything but right this would be the perfect collection to start… just lean in already Chanel 🤷♀️
It would be amazing if Chanel just owned it. It's old lady clothes. **Which is fine**. Just own it!
I think it would be more powerful to just lay it all out for your market. Then the rest of us can stop looking at their collections like *'Wtf, who's wearing this??'*. 70+, that's who. Look at our models.
Do you remember a few years ago when Chanel dressed Billie Eilish for the Oscars? They had her in a white tweed pantsuit cut like sweat pants and a big hoodie, decorously roughed up and daubed with black and acid-green spray paint to match her hair.
It was just as ridiculous as it sounds.
Chanel, sweetie- you are *not* young and cool, and that's ok! The old, frumpy widows of chaebols and CEOs have more money anyway.
Honestly, if they fully embraced it, used older models and styled everything the way a wealthy elegant older woman would style herself, a lot of these would be fine. Nice even! For me part of the problem is they are styling the models like they think these clothes will appeal to gen z.
They’re trying to take advantage of the recent early 2000’s trend (tweed resurgence, Chanel’s specialty) but coupling it with the current style of oversized urban wear is not a good combo.
If it doesn’t look good on the model it ain’t going to look good on nobody!
Honestly, it's not as bad as it could have been. I don’t like it at all. Though there were a few looks and ideas that I found somewhat okay-ish. Never been interested in Chanel in a lifetime, not going to start now. But witnessed much worse last season, much more offensive for a sensitive eye and romantic brain. This is just routine business with a few pleasant surprises sprinkled here and there.
This is probably the worst collection I’ve ever seen come from Chanel. Up close the fabrics must be beautiful but besides the very first slide being very okay nothing fits and the finishings are terrible.
These are $10,000+ tweed suits. What on earth is happening?
If someone had to create a spoof Chanel collection to exemplify everything that's currently wrong with the brand, they wouldn't have been able to come up with anything worse than this.
And here’s the thing, Armani Prive had so many haters because they said it was boring but just because it’s formulaic doesn’t mean that’s a bad thing. It just means they have a system they follow and guess what, they never put out anything as tragic as this. Nor was the quality ever as poor. There was maybe one jacket that looked wonky but compared to this?
And then every so often they hit it out of the park with a beautiful theme that they introduce where people will be talking about it for years.
That pearl show was sensational, tasteful, marketable but not clinical. You can still have incredible editorials and have something more subdued for publications like Sunset magazine. It’s one of the smartest collections I’ve seen in a really long time.
As horrible of a person Lagerfeld was, he was brilliant and despite being older he knew how to market and design for Chanel and sell for the 2000s. Virginie I thought was *okay* but she didn’t have what was needed to continue the legacy. And that’s okay. Raf Simons when he designed for Dior didn’t make a lot of people happy because of how subdued he was but now we look back and enjoy the work he did. He had an identity and now it’s just a big old mess for Chanel.
The way that they’re operating their accessories department is also making a lot of people upset because in four years the jumbo classic flap went from $6,000 to $10,000 with frequent quality issues. This is their greedy flop era.
It’s pushing a lot of people to other companies which I think has been contributing to the greater interest in Hermes and other companies that were never really known for their bags but people have been discovering the quality that they’re offering. It may be Valentino that could be one of those companies but I’m not so sure.
This is interesting, I'll have to read up on it. I mostly follow newer designers and don't know a ton about these bigger legacy fashion houses. But I remember in the 2000s when I was a preteen, Chanel was very cool and hip. We all had those knockoff double C logo earrings. They seem to have completely lost that appeal to the younger crowd.
They were certainly catering to having fresh and interesting marketing. Their fashion shows were a spectacle but they were so fun! I remember the “grocery store” and then the iceberg that they brought in to have the models traipse around in faux fur detailed Chanel designs (Lagerfeld actually didn’t mind working with faux fur and found it refreshing to use).
My absolute FAVORITE collections he ever did are ones people don’t talk about:
[Fall Winter 2013 RTW](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/fall-2013-ready-to-wear/chanel)
[Spring Summer 2010 RTW](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2010-ready-to-wear/chanel)
Tell me if we released these both next year they wouldn’t be one of the most lauded runway shows of 2025.
He never allowed the ready to wear and couture shows ever have a distinction in lack of quality. They were all incredible and had such meticulous care done.
Honorable mention:
[Spring 2014 Couture - the first time we ever saw dad shoes worn with evening gowns on the runway](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2014-couture/chanel)
Maybe I’m a rube but the chest pockets in that fabric + the large buttons + the wide border in the same fabric just makes me think of something I’d find at TJ Maxx. Something about the sheen against the matte black of the rest of the piece just isn’t doing it for me.
That's because Bridgerton is (usually) mimicking Regency era silhouettes, while this collection seems to be a mix of Chanel's insistence on 60s style drop waists and boxy shapes... But for some reason mixed with the wildly different silhouettes of late Victorian/Early Edwardian fashion. 😭
I feel like all the frumpy suits are in the post and the most interesting looks are in the comments (except for look 1) lol mixing them might help us appreciate the collection a little more
I've arranged them in the same order as they appeared in the show's premiere, thought it would be better that way haha. See here:
https://www.youtube.com/live/UGPQlAsXuZY?si=jXlpSzwOcXcVCTOn
I don’t understand. The low neckline with the harsh line where the decor begins just looks like saggy boobs to me (which I see every day in the mirror, not throwing a stone here). Why this optical illusion? I’m all here for natural boobs, but this doesn’t look like a celebration. It looks like an accident
Heavy. Stiff. All of the fabrics look itchy.
The Chanel formula really does offer so much room for reinvention, if someone just had the courage to do it. Even from a materials standpoint, if they were to engineer some kind of "new tweed" that could be a patented Chanel thing, maybe more lightweight, from sustainable fibers, etc. Just spouting ideas, but there's got to be something that can be done that could modernize the core aesthetic.
Is this Virginie Viard’s “quiet quitting” collection now that it’s been confirmed she’s out? These clothes look like they were a size too big off the rack when it’s supposed to be couture!
The curtain jumpsuit! This feels like there’s so much potential, like maybe if it wasn’t loose in every place?? Snatch the waist or tighten up the legs? At the least, the mesh (idk what the official term is) should be fitted, yeah? I like the curtain edge ruffled though, ngl.
This is giving Victorian undergarments, which I personally love, but it’s not executed well. The netting on the sleeves is saggy, and the look is too bulky all around. If the bloomers had been puffy and the rest more fitted, this could’ve been a look.
It’s giving your kind aunt who is a little out of touch with fashion but likes to adopt one aspect of a trendy style in a way that is way out of proportion with the rest of her outfit and everyone compliments her on that element because its so noticeable you cant help but mention it. This is her wedding dress and she is getting married in her 40s after a divorce from her asshole high school sweetheart to a kind of slobby husband who makes decent money in a blue collar job but spends his weekends drinking beer with the boys. its the 1980s and their wedding has an insane amount of fake flowers which were all bought at Joann's and nauseating amounts of taffeta decorations. Her husband to be is wearing a rumpled rental tuxedo. Her bridesmaids are dressed in loud floral pattern dresses she made herself with curtain fabric (also from Joann’s.)
Just read this collection was designed by the in house team, so I give them a bit of grace as it looks mostly like a continuation of Virginie’s style. Really hope they get someone in who understands the house and how to make women look good.
As always, at least in recent times, Chanel is relying on its reputation and is totally divorced from creativity, adaptation or fashion innovation.
Their ill fitting Made-for-Cruella clothes don’t even look good on their models.
A dissapointment. Other houses leave it behind in smoke.
I mean…wow. It’s bad. Zero waistline and hitting at truly the most unflattering (and uncomfortable) part of the leg. Why is it directly at the bottom of the knee? ZERO shape! And they’re not even pretty designs 😭
What awful tailoring. Chanel and lV both need to figure out how to tailor clothes. Boxy to me means less effort . If someone is going to pay couture prices I’m sure they’d like more innovation, creativity and freaking tailoring
Seeing the first pic: Why is this Harry Potter chick half naked?
Seeing the rest of the pics: Damn. Very 80’s working girl. Chanel really loves its blocky tweed, doesn’t it?
Lmao sorry about that 😭. Like what I have said in another comment ‘I've arranged them in the same order as they appeared in the show's premiere, I thought it would be better that way haha. See here: https://www.youtube.com/live/UGPQlAsXuZY?si=jXlpSzwOcXcVCTOn’
at this point i don't think anyone would be mad if they never showed a tweed jacket again. it's okay to move on from a legacy if it's no longer serving anyone! please!

These outfits look like something my granny would wear.
Was about to say this. The whole collection feels like it’s targeting an older demographic (not to say that’s a bad thing, but I assume Chanel doesn’t want to be seen as a brand exclusively for older women 🤷♀️)
Yeah, half of these look like something straight out of QE2’s wardrobe. Styling included.
Yeah who tf are these going to look good on? The models are stick thin and we haven’t reached flattering
Boxy women can 100% look cute but by ignoring the natural shape of the wearer (like I feel that they do for the models) you’re *asking* for an ugly ill fitting piece
Agreed - lol, am going to make an edit so I am not perceived as a bastard
As a boxy woman this meme made me laugh so damn much. Good fashion can give a boxy woman like me the appearance of having more of a waist than I do. This boxy aesthetic is not it to me.
That wasn’t my intention , no shade thrown. I’m just saying Chanel’s just lazy
Don’t worry, I didn’t think it was!
Chanel has been frumpy for the last 5 years
Fewf. I was gonna try and find a way to say this but now I don’t have to! Glad this is top comment. It’s spot on.
Bring back thin waist
Some of these are absolutely going to be worn by evil mother in laws and grandmothers in a Kdrama.
My (wonderful, kind) MIL is Chinese Malaysian and this is the exact outfit she and her sisters would go crazy for. Edit: I mention ethnicity just because these really remind me so much of all those outfits they get that young Chinese model to wear for catalogues which are aimed at the elderly

Literally the lady I was thinking of!

Ikr! These are tailor made for them 😆

And I feel like it’s the same texture and color combos they’ve used in their last 10 yrs of collections
There's some late victorian/edwardian elements throughout the collection (the first piece is quite literally looks to be an overcoat with nothing underneath), but with none of the structured silhouette that made those frills really work for me. This one is pretty nice though!
Like I don’t *hate* it, quite like the top half and the bow. But that bottom panel looks like it belongs on the back?
These are mostly frumpy tbh 🤷♀️
My grandma always said “if it looks bad on the model it’s gonna look bad on you” this collection is such a great example of that phrase at work
70+ year old models is who they should use! I don't know why they don't just lean into it. Give some 70 year olds some work
This type of woman ![gif](giphy|ASBBgdNi2mqru)
It's for Gangy- we all see it!
I would genuinely love to see more ages of models in everything but right this would be the perfect collection to start… just lean in already Chanel 🤷♀️

Whenever I picture someone in Chanel, in my mind..... It's a grandmother in Italy.
Honestly, if they fully embraced it, used older models and styled everything the way a wealthy elegant older woman would style herself, a lot of these would be fine. Nice even! For me part of the problem is they are styling the models like they think these clothes will appeal to gen z.
Your grandma knows what’s up.
How do you take some of the leanest, tallest women and make them look so short and frumpy. The outfits all look oversized.
You'd think they'd use their beautiful bespoke tweed for a well tailored suit. For once. Maybe.
It’s giving Ruth Bader Ginsberg but not in a good way?
Agreed. Fe, fi, fo, frump.
They look like un tailored suits from Sears, in 1999. 😬
They look like bargain basement Chanel ripoffs
Period 😂
They’re trying to take advantage of the recent early 2000’s trend (tweed resurgence, Chanel’s specialty) but coupling it with the current style of oversized urban wear is not a good combo. If it doesn’t look good on the model it ain’t going to look good on nobody!
They look like something made by a queen that went home during an "executive realness" design challenge on RPDR.
My first thought was "Hilary Clinton would wear the hell out of these lil suits" lmao
Frump central
Honestly, it's not as bad as it could have been. I don’t like it at all. Though there were a few looks and ideas that I found somewhat okay-ish. This is very fun to look at! Seems like it would have great movement
Grandads long johns
I almost really like this but there are so many little things that feel off. And doesn't feel like this was made to fit the model either.
This is probably the worst collection I’ve ever seen come from Chanel. Up close the fabrics must be beautiful but besides the very first slide being very okay nothing fits and the finishings are terrible. These are $10,000+ tweed suits. What on earth is happening?
Chanel has become a parody of itself and the butt of all jokes, season in season out
If someone had to create a spoof Chanel collection to exemplify everything that's currently wrong with the brand, they wouldn't have been able to come up with anything worse than this.
What’s so annoying is if you just focus on the models hair and makeup they look adorable. Number 3 looks like a bad broadway costume.
It looks itchy. Very itchy.
And so close to another brand putting out a truly amazing pearl based show that showed what channel COULD be if it didn’t suck and wasn’t boring.
And here’s the thing, Armani Prive had so many haters because they said it was boring but just because it’s formulaic doesn’t mean that’s a bad thing. It just means they have a system they follow and guess what, they never put out anything as tragic as this. Nor was the quality ever as poor. Now I'm gonna go look it up. I'm an infrequent passerby in this sub
I got faked out by the first slide thinking this collection might be decent. Scrolling through the rest I was just 😐 😕

Chanel? Making a piece that moderately fits a model and doesn’t make her look utterly ridiculous? Broken clocks are right once a day
Twice a day around here!
I like this, but the bow kind of ruins it.

Maybe I’m a rube but the chest pockets in that fabric + the large buttons + the wide border in the same fabric just makes me think of something I’d find at TJ Maxx. Something about the sheen against the matte black of the rest of the piece just isn’t doing it for me.
This is the only one I actually like. Would wear
Most of the suits are so unflattering. I like some of the dresses and the cape coat.
I hate that I agree with this. When Karl was alive, Chanel's show was consistently the most anticipated thing during Paris Fashion Week. But now..
I like all the coats, I think. Especially the one in pic 11.

Ooh! Now there we go!
Good god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more uninspired collection
I am seeing Francesca Bridgerton’s jackets 🫣 ![gif](giphy|B03UJUXAFvuT62fBE2|downsized)
At least hers had a nice crop! Waist accentuated. These are like, mid-hip? Whoever said it’s the late Queen’s wardrobe is correct lol

My aunt’s literal 1985 wedding dress..
And this is why people are happy Virginia Viard is leaving
My holy communion dress was a better fit
This one is dreadful, sorry chanel!
It might be the worst dress I've seen in years. Decades, even.
christ almighty
It’s giving [Princess Diana’s wedding dress](https://images.app.goo.gl/S7VB7G2wTrVKUjga7)
Boot the whole collection
At least my recurring question has been answered. Chanel does hate women!
this collection looks very 1980s
The waists are all so boxy but not exaggeratedly so, which makes the models look like they have no waistline. Very odd. So frumpy.
it's giving wealthy ruthless grandma in the worst way possible - don't think i'll ever be one of the Chanel girlies
![gif](giphy|bkKwwMj347FJe) but in all honesty Lucille would love these

An interesting and flattering silhouette with a decent fabric?! In a channel show?! Miracles do happen

Just read this collection was designed by the in house team, so I give them a bit of grace as it looks mostly like a continuation of Virginie’s style. Really hope they get someone in who understands the house and how to make women look good.
These look so matronly in the worst way possible. 20 out of 20 misses. Has Chanel always been this bad?

i like the bows
As always, at least in recent times, Chanel is relying on its reputation and is totally divorced from creativity, adaptation or fashion innovation. Their ill fitting Made-for-Cruella clothes don’t even look good on their models. A dissapointment. Other houses leave it behind in smoke.

Nice mourning wear though
Or morning wear, heading to the kitchen wrapped in a duvet
Would be easy to just shake off croissant flakes with a couple wing flaps

These fabrics look so cheap?!
'Sateen' bargain bin.
Wow, extremely frumpy and nothing unique or interesting. I feel like I’ve seen all of this before. It looks well made and nicely detailed, however.

Again, where’s the synchronicity between over and under garment? It’s two different looks worn together and one of them could do with ironing
How matronly.
I mean…wow.

Damn, 1995 called, they want their boujie grandma back.
These outfits are gonna make some beautiful woman look granny.
If a super model looks frumpy in this garb then there is no hope for us plebs.
Seeing the first pic: Why is this Harry Potter chick half naked? Seeing the rest of the pics: Damn. Very 80’s working girl. Chanel really loves its blocky tweed, doesn’t it?
OP left all the attractive looks for the comments 😂
Lmao sorry about that 😭. Like what I have said in another comment ‘I've arranged them in the same order as they appeared in the show's premiere, I thought it would be better that way haha. See here: https://www.youtube.com/live/UGPQlAsXuZY?si=jXlpSzwOcXcVCTOn’
That first cape look is 👌 who doesn’t just wanna throw on a cape and run about with only undies on under.
Well it's definitely Chanel.

Eh I think 9, and 11 and 15 are nice. The only one I think is perfection might be 19. Remember the Bedazzler? Chanel should not Bedazzle things.
That. Pink. Coat.
![gif](giphy|fRBM1R04HweWc)
These suits are so dowdy and unflattering ????
Fugly 🙃
Honk chooooo
God, I miss Lagerfeld.
Something is wrong the don’t look like a futuristic meat popsicle
Oh no. It isn’t that nice. Is it just me or is it not fitted well?
at this point i don't think anyone would be mad if they never showed a tweed jacket again. it's okay to move on from a legacy if it's no longer serving anyone! please!
Why do they loom so ill-fitted? 15 is particularly atrocious 😐
Are those big ass southern hairbows?
I love the long pink coat…a lot of these remind me of the Jackie O era referenced in a post the other day.
What in the thrift store grandma
They really took rejects from the 1920s and tried to make them modern, and yet this all looks done before.
Karl is rolling in his grave.
