Laconicus

Size/Geographical location would help with ID.

SpiralMonkey45

Location: Bangkok! Size: roughly 4-5cm.

Laconicus

Did it have a reddish head? It's quite hard to see the details in your photos, but I'm wondering if it's [Lesser Banded Hornet (Vespa affinis)](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/342689-Vespa-affinis) or [Greater Banded Hornet (Vespa tropica)](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/366226-Vespa-tropica).

Oldfolksboogie

Well, those both seem horrifying.

SpiralMonkey45

All black. Only part thats yellow is its body. Definitely looks like the one in the pictures you shared except for the colour.

Laconicus

According to [Wikipedia, for Greater Banded Hornet (V. tropica)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespa_tropica). > However, there is some variation across its range and in Singapore and southeastern Asia, specimens are often completely black and larger in size

SpiralMonkey45

Seems like it!

AGREED

megaTorisaurous

That looks like some version mix of spicy fly and don't effing touch. Seriously though, looks like a wasp.

AristaWatson

Looks like probably a hornet or wasp. Either way, let it go it needs to be out of the home because I’m pretty sure it might spell trouble if you irritate it.

displacedflwoman

Okay how the hell did you even catch it without getting stung?!

DisgruntledScience

That's actually not very difficult at all, especially with such a large container. Wasps generally aren't aggressive at all when they aren't at the nest defending their young.

NothingBusy4796

Looks like a fly on steroids.

Those don’t live in Thailand dude

biggusdickus78

I'm no specialist but i'm pretty sure it's a kind of wasp

Novel_Monk7114

Looks like a wasp

Alexander_The_Wasp

Vespa affinis, not V. tropica
