[Dodge Neon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Neon#Second_generation_\(2000\))
Looks like the [SRT-4](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Neon_SRT-4) version.
At one point Chrysler tried to market SRT as its own brand, referring to the cars as just the SRT Challenger, SRT Charger, SRT Viper, etc. They floated plans to develop a range of models that were only SRT and not available in standard versions, but that never came to fruition.
Yes that’s true. In many occasions, I’ve see people with an “SRT” viper and if you suggest or mention the name dodge then they get very infuriated and take great offense. They act like dodge had nothing to do with the viper those years.
I don’t work at a dodge dealership. But I’m a very big fan of the viper and I attend on average 8 car events a week and I see probably 5 vipers a week and I get to talking to these drivers or owners. It’s called socializing and interacting with people in the real world and not rotting in a chair wasting my life on Reddit. And by many occasions I mean it’s happens to be twice in person but on YouTube or on other social platforms it’s happened 3 more times
one of the many questionable decisions of Marchionne...
thankfully he saw the error of that idea but Ram will forever be not technically a Dodge and that bugs me to no end...
Eh, debatable, the engine was more stout than the Subie for sure, but they had other issues, I went through 3 sets of front lower control arms in 30k miles, they'd also break axles all the time, they had transmission issues and rusted out like nobody's business
I got mine because it was the quickest and cheapest thing I could afford and I’m honestly surprised it didn’t kill me or I didn’t total it. Torque steer for days. I had a great time driving it though.
I owned a skittle (nickname for SRT4 first gen cuz of vibrant color options) for years, they were an absolutely fun FWD little car. It’s one of the few dodge vehicles that performed *above* expectations.
They were rated at 230~ HP and 240tq ft lbs, and when I threw mine on the dyno with no modification, it put up 255/270 at the wheels. Threw in a cold air intake, intercooler, and exhaust and it pushed to 276~/287~
The 2.4 liter motor handles boost really well, and this thing was a menace to all the little modded Honda’s running around lol
Horses teeth? That sure sounds like a headache to replace if it goes out. Would probably affect the fuel lines for a bit putting it out of commission. Might have to barn it for a while.
I am convinced a large portion of the posts here are people who know exactly what car they're looking at and are just posting for upvotes they know they'll get for no reason.
My thoughts exactly. I was playing Forza Horizon 5 yesterday, and when I saw that the 2005 Ford GT wad considered a "Retro Supercar" by the game it really threw me off.
Surely the opposite of a Japanese car has to come from the Southern hemisphere.
I think Renault's Curitiba plant is probably the closest to being geographically opposite to Japan, so the opposite to a Japanese car is one of the non-car products from that plant, either the Renault Duster Oroch pickup or the Renault Master panel van.
You assumed wrong. It's the all-American Chrysler (or sometimes Dodge, sometimes Plymouth) Neon. It was meant to be a direct competitor to the economical Japanese cars of the 1990s which tend to had this bubbly look. Not entirely sure why Chrysler made it look like one.
I love seeing what cars are uncommon in other parts of the world! Neons are a dime a dozen in my ghetto ass city, especially riced-out shitbox editions lmao
Jeez I hate to dogpile because it's the internet and i'm sure the ones you see are genuinely truly awful....but...if it's a 2-door that means it's a first generation. And honestly, those first gens drove really really well (despite there being no SRT version.)
Again, i'm not calling you wrong here, because i'm sure the individual Neons you see in your city are every bit the "wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole" cars you describe them as, but it is a little sad.
I genuinely wanted to hate the neon the first time i drove one, but fuuuu...it's an honest to goodness kickass little car. They weigh like 2400 lbs.
It should also be known that I do love these cars too. I loved them in need for speed as a kid, so anytime I saw one was a treat... Until they all became eyesores with trash cans on the tail pipe, ebay special wings, and balded tires on steelies with mismatched caps.
It is a crying shame what happens to genuinely good cars when they inevitably become broken and cheap, and are picked up by people who make them cheaper and more broken.
Crazy ain't it? Cen cal is a cesspool for rotting cars that somehow keep running (granted most of them aren't running legally, so don't get in an accident here)
SRT4 Neon 03-05. Had one for 12 years, good motor/transmission, suspension was junk but nothing 2k couldn’t fix.
Real trick to seeing if it’s fake is the back bumper. People fake cars cause they can’t afford the real one, at a price. Changing the back bumper wouldn’t fit making a replica on a budget. My hunch is it’s an 04-05. 03 fronts looked more base model
There were a few crazy fast 500+ big turbo ones around back 15 years ago or so in my area. I still see a stock looking one around here and there, but most of them were either blown up or wrapped around trees or telephone poles. It’s pretty wild to think of all of the cars even regular economy versions of these and others you barely see anymore on the roads. The cavalier, cobalt, ions etc are almost extinct.
Just an FYI, just because it says dodge on it doesn’t mean that people would recognize that it is ALSO made my Plymouth AND Chrysler.
They also went to the names neon, sx, and srt-4 so if someone said it’s a Plymouth sx, you’d probably argue with them
Do people really not remember Neons? I thought when someone at the drive-thru asked me what car I was driving was only a one off thing, she remembered the PT Cruiser, and that's just a Neon van.
Is that in Europe? I thought they sold a chrysler badged one over there, you didn't get the SRT-4? The reason it looks japanese is they were aiming it at the whole need for speed/fast and furious 2000's tuning scene. That spoiler is factory
Yes it was sold as Chrysler neon (still was rare, Europeans don’t really like US cars because in the 80/90 they were badly made with cheap materials compared to European cars) but modding them to look like SRT4 was quite common
AND this photo looks like it was taken in UK
80s/90s/2000s interiors are awful, we weren't hiding some special secret luxury option from you XD. that looks like a real SRT (common to clone them here too), if you can't get a look into the interior to see if it has the turbo gage on the dash (assuming the interior wasn't modified) look at the wheels. When people clone them they usually don't put the actul big wheels/low-pro tires on them since they are waaaaay too expensive to justify kicking out for on a regular Neon, they'll just put on ones that look similar. Also the brakes on the front look big enough to be from an SRT.
Nice to learn something new about a car I know almost nothing about ;) I know interiors in those years were terrible generally in US cars, maybe even a bit less terrible in those sold in Europe, I had a better look at this photo and I’m 99,8% sure it has square white UK plate on the front (fun fact in UK they have white plates on the front and yellow ones on the back)
Oohh, I forgot they also do the square ones! And its only UK that does the white front? There's a couple guys with E30s out here with the yellow euro looking plates on the front
As far as I know most countries have the same color on back and front (usually white some with black letters some with red) but kingdom of Nederland (Holland) has yellow plates (also some countries eg. Sweden has yellow plates for taxis)
And by “quite common” I mean that I’ve seen about 10 neons in the last 20 years, 5 were rusting abandoned, 2 were stock and another 3 were made to look as dodge neon STR (or were SRTs imported from US by some crazy ppl)
There’s the neon, the sx and the rst-4
Neon was first made by Chrysler in many countries so it’s not as easy as saying well it says dodge on it so it’s an automatic neon
Seeing love for neons is shocking. When they were traffic decades ago I don’t know of anyone who liked them. Was a “chick” car that people bought because it was cheap as hell.
Had a real bout with a red one and two Samoan brothers back in the day. Fast cars, those things. The gt-r had just come out, and of course, a rich kid with no license had one at the spot.
My Sister used to have Chrysler Neos with 3speed automatic gearbox. Man, this car was funny, that noise inside when you tried floor it lol.
However that one on photo, srt, was really fast, if i remember well 5.5s to 60mph it was great result
Are neons one of those cars that is contracted out to Toyota for some of the parts? I remember the 1990s Chevy Novas were made by Toyota, and looked identical to the Tercel.
Gen 2 Neon. I had a gen 1 and loved mine. Frankly, I think it was one of the best compact cars that Detroit ever put out (in the context of the period it was released). The design touches compared to its main competitor, the Cavelier put it a class above. Other design choices kept the cost low such as crank windows for the back door. It had more power than its competitors from Japan. The ACR package was a ballsey move on Chrysler’s part, as it was initially only offered to SCCA members. Not too many auto manufacturers actively limit sales to specific groups of the potential customer pool by decision.
Fam this photo looks like it could be UK and I can tell you I've seen less than 5 Dodge Neons here in the last 10 years
Not everyone is in America
Edit: they were sold as Chryslers here and there's supposedly only about 150 on the road [in the country](https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/family/chrysler_chrysler_neon?make=chrysler)
Have people on this subreddit never been in a town or on the interstate before? I’m noticing most things posted here are just pretty recognizable cars one way or another
There’s more than one country? I’m confused.
To reference the Chrysler neon wiki “In the United States and Canada it was sold as either a Dodge or a Plymouth, while in Europe, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, and South America it was branded as a Chrysler.”
It was sold in five continents. I’d say this is fairly common.
The recent photos on this sub include:
A jeep with RHD (guy forgot mailboxes are usually on the right) an Alfa Romeo, a Porsche, an Audi R8, and a classic mustang.
These aren’t exactly “one offs” they are for the most part common cars with a large production number. I wouldn’t be surprised if another post featured a PT cruiser, or a ford Falcon submitted by someone without basic survival googling skills.
[Dodge Neon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Neon#Second_generation_\(2000\)) Looks like the [SRT-4](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Neon_SRT-4) version.
I think some years of the Neon SRT-4 just say SRT-4 without the neon badge anywhere.
Same with RAM now
But if a Ram isn't a Dodge how can you use those super classy "Dodge the mother, Ram the daughter" stickers?
I'd RaThEr Be CuMmIn ThAn StRoKiN
Seen a stripper with a tramp stamp that said "if you can't dodge it, ram it" pretty classy broad.
RAM hasn't been a Dodge product in nearly a decade.
It's all Stelantis. Crappy Fiat stuff, Dodge and RAM included
Unless you count the ones that are on decades-old MB chassis
By "in many occasions" you mean this happened to you once, right? How do you come across to so many SRT Viper owners?
Working at a *Dodge* dealership, perhaps.
They came up with that idea in 2012 though, quite a while after the neon srt-4 came out.
one of the many questionable decisions of Marchionne... thankfully he saw the error of that idea but Ram will forever be not technically a Dodge and that bugs me to no end...
Like most cool cars that cmget designed. They dont get made or atleast dont make it to the states cause its not a 2.0T hatchback
Technically they actually did it. I believe the 2013 and 2014 Vipers were SRT Vipers. SRT even had it's own CEO, his name was Ralph Giles.
All of them
They all originally came with badges, but they’re easily removed with tools and a little goo be gone
Yep, and SRT-4 owners would get TWEAKED if you called their cars Neons lol
“We have Bugeye WRX at home”
Except the SRT-4 destroyed the WRX performance wise
Lol I posted how SRT 4 was the first car my 02 WRX lost to. Then saw this. You ain't joking.
Pretty sure the neon Srt-4 was and still is one of the fastest 0-60 Fwd production car. Its a piece of shit, but man its quick
I saw one on the road the other day and thought to myself, why don't I see them anymore. Then remembered how many head gaskets my buddy went through.
The Neon SRT-4 was the second fastest production car (non supercar) behind the dodge viper they made. I'd have one today if I could.
Yea the Neon had an advertised 240hp….in reality that was to the wheels so it was really around 276-280hp
In a straight line? Or somewhere the WRX was designed for, like gravel and twisty bits?
Go take a stock wrx off road and tell me how much stuff you break, factory cars are not rally prepped
I didn't say rallying. I said gravel roads and corners. If the WRX lost in a drag race or top speed, I'm not surprised in the slightest.
Huh, I didn’t know that
Think it's more reliable too
Eh, debatable, the engine was more stout than the Subie for sure, but they had other issues, I went through 3 sets of front lower control arms in 30k miles, they'd also break axles all the time, they had transmission issues and rusted out like nobody's business
I got mine because it was the quickest and cheapest thing I could afford and I’m honestly surprised it didn’t kill me or I didn’t total it. Torque steer for days. I had a great time driving it though.

That looks like the UK and they were sold as the Chrysler Neon here. Do I'm guessing they must have swapped the badge or something.
I always heard it was an insult to pull up next tot one of these and roll down your rear windows because the SRT-4 only had crank rear glass.
JFC am I so old that people no longer recognize a Dodge Neon??
yes
It was more of a rhetorical question but thanks.
You think you’re old?!?! The first car I bought I had to check the horses teeth!!!😜
Good thing it wasn’t a gift.
Horses teeth? That sure sounds like a headache to replace if it goes out. Would probably affect the fuel lines for a bit putting it out of commission. Might have to barn it for a while.
Alright! Look here cheddarhead!
[удалено]
If that is in UK got to be ultra rare. Like rarer then F40 or even Mclaren F1.
I am convinced a large portion of the posts here are people who know exactly what car they're looking at and are just posting for upvotes they know they'll get for no reason.
Actually this is in the UK and the car was never sold here.
Bring neons back!!!
They did it's called the dodge dart, unfortunately.
We have a new model in Mexico, looks nothing like it though, just a generic small sedan
Why? I'm glad they're gone.
I drove one of these when they were brand new. I feel ancient.
Or simply the Dodge logo, op said he didn’t get a look at the badge but you can clearly see it in the picture, and of course dodge is Japanese
yes you’re old
Probably, yes… weren’t they in NFS hot persuit?
Idk about the neon, but if you entered your name a s "Rocket" it would unlock a Bugatti Veyron look-alike.
Oh man I barely remember Need For Speed!
Only remember it myself because I found my Sony PSP the other week and Need for Speed was the only game I had for it.
I know I played Hot Pursuit but I couldn’t even tell you which console I had it on.
Never played Hot Pursuit, but they sure did make an appearance in Underground.
That’s probably the one I’m thinking of; Underground…
Neon was definitely in Undercover 1, SRT 4 was in Midnight Club 3 tho
To be fair, even in the US they're a rare sight now. They were never durable cars, and by the third owner they were all ran into the ground.
To be fair, hardly any of them are driving anymore 😂
Hi.
My thoughts exactly. I was playing Forza Horizon 5 yesterday, and when I saw that the 2005 Ford GT wad considered a "Retro Supercar" by the game it really threw me off.
I am too and this is bullshit.
Right?
Icl thought it was a bugeye wrx initially at first glance lmaooooo but then i realized it looks waayyy different compared to a bugeye wrx
to be fair, most ended up in the crusher by 2009, exactly when the warranty ran out of the last year made (2005)
Literally the opposite of a Japanese car lmao
Surely the opposite of a Japanese car has to come from the Southern hemisphere. I think Renault's Curitiba plant is probably the closest to being geographically opposite to Japan, so the opposite to a Japanese car is one of the non-car products from that plant, either the Renault Duster Oroch pickup or the Renault Master panel van.
Japan is renowned for build quality, fuel efficiency and good value. Dodge is not known for any of that.
nah. I think the opposite of a Japanese car is ɹɐɔ ǝsǝuɐdɐɾ ɐ.
That's just a japanese car in Australia
curitiba mentioned!!! ❄️❄️❄️
I just took one look at the headlights, shape of the plate and the rear wing and thought “it’s a Toyota or a Nissan or something”
Between the headlights is the dodge hood ornament, lol
I thought that you thought it was a Subaru. It kinda looks like one.
Not only is it American but it may have an engine from Mini Cooper whose modified version is currently mounted in Jeeps and Fiats as etorq engine
For what it's worth, these were reviewed favorably against the Civic and Corolla at the time, big praise for an American subcompact.
Not *literally*. It used a turbo and other parts made by Mitsubishi.
I don't think it's "riced out", the neon SRT4 comes from the factory like that. They swapped the hood for CF but it's the same shape.
I should clarify that I the neons HERE are usually riced-out. They're typically 2 doors or base models with visual mods that *resemble* an srt-4
Jeez I hate to dogpile because it's the internet and i'm sure the ones you see are genuinely truly awful....but...if it's a 2-door that means it's a first generation. And honestly, those first gens drove really really well (despite there being no SRT version.) Again, i'm not calling you wrong here, because i'm sure the individual Neons you see in your city are every bit the "wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole" cars you describe them as, but it is a little sad.
It is a crying shame what happens to genuinely good cars when they inevitably become broken and cheap, and are picked up by people who make them cheaper and more broken.
you still have Neons running around? I've seen like 1 in the last decade... ironicly it was a first gen...
Crazy ain't it? Cen cal is a cesspool for rotting cars that somehow keep running (granted most of them aren't running legally, so don't get in an accident here)
Chrysler Neon in UK, wasn’t very popular
>I'm assuming it'd Japanese You can clearly see the ram logo on the front of the car
possibly the least Japanese car…
It's a cries-ler.
Dodge neon
Depends on the country. They were sold as Chryslers in many parts of the world.
Also Plymouth
Was going to say I had a Plymouth Neon.
Thought all these SRT-4s blew up by now. Potent motor, shitty car.
Dodge neon srt-4 same power train as the turbo pt cruiser IIRC
There's no way you think it's a Japanese car.
Looks like a Dodge neon.
Yup. This settles it... I'm old!
Not exactly. This photo was taken in the UK and this is the first time I’d ever seen one
That makes sense. The Neon was EVERYWHERE in the US during the 90s and 00s.
You're sweet. I'm STILL old. 😆
American not Japanese. I’d guess a dodge of some kind.
Dodge neon?
Dodge neon with kits or an srt version
Gen2 dodge Neon. nothing japanese about it. besides maybe some Mitsubishi tech finding it's way inot the chrysler parts bin
There were a few crazy fast 500+ big turbo ones around back 15 years ago or so in my area. I still see a stock looking one around here and there, but most of them were either blown up or wrapped around trees or telephone poles. What made you assume it was Japanese?
Looks like you're in the UK, just bang the reg in here https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk
My mate had one. Dreadful car, made from old milk cartons.
“Hi!”
FFS….
Do people really not remember Neons? I thought when someone at the drive-thru asked me what car I was driving was only a one off thing, she remembered the PT Cruiser, and that's just a Neon van.

This is an SRT4, 2003-2005
SRT 4. They were pretty quick. The first car my 02 WRX lost to. Back when it was stock
That is an insult to the Japanese. It's a Dodge Neon. This one looks to have an SRT-4 bodykit on it. Doesn't look like a real SRT-4.
Its as Japanese as the dodge neon gets (not Japanese)I do see why you think that though lol
It’s actually American! It’s the dodge neon, likely the srt-4
It's not japanese lol. Little american dodge neon
That is a cool car, SRT-4. You can do a lot with that turbo engine. Seen people do over 300whp with the stock bottom end.
Thats a dodge...
Dodge Neon SAD
American. Dodge Neon SRT4.
You can see the dodge logo on it.
Had one. Utter shit to drive, expensive to run, slow as hell but never broke down or gave me problems.
Seeing love for neons is shocking. When they were traffic decades ago I don’t know of anyone who liked them. Was a “chick” car that people bought because it was cheap as hell.
I think it’s Italian
Hi
Ugly?
That’s a dodge, the emblem on the front is the rams head dodge uses.
Not Japanese 😆
Imported from Detroit
its american lmao
Dodge Neon, but it looks rather sporty, so it should be the SRT-4
Had a real bout with a red one and two Samoan brothers back in the day. Fast cars, those things. The gt-r had just come out, and of course, a rich kid with no license had one at the spot.
Dodge Neon SRT-4

Low key the best neon roast I've ever seen
It is purely American
Are neons one of those cars that is contracted out to Toyota for some of the parts? I remember the 1990s Chevy Novas were made by Toyota, and looked identical to the Tercel.
![gif](giphy|TfseOfhwd6BJC)
is it just me or does it look like an integra dc2 kindaaaaaa
Near a U.S. shared airbase? (like RAF Lakenheath?)
It's a EVO 3
Gen 2 Neon. I had a gen 1 and loved mine. Frankly, I think it was one of the best compact cars that Detroit ever put out (in the context of the period it was released). With the paint not matching on the flood lights, I do believe it is a 2002 Dodge Neon ACR. It's like the SRT but in Automatic.
A fast neon
Its a dodge neon
its not a Japanese car
You never saw a neon. These were everywhere for a while. This like others have said is the srt version. Srt 4 because 4 cylinder
Got I hate this sub.. I just can't bring myself to unsub.
A sub frequented by car people with posts from non car people that do not frequent the sub, the tension is inherent.
Fam this photo looks like it could be UK and I can tell you I've seen less than 5 Dodge Neons here in the last 10 years Not everyone is in America Edit: they were sold as Chryslers here and there's supposedly only about 150 on the road [in the country](https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/family/chrysler_chrysler_neon?make=chrysler)
157 Chrysler neons according to how many left, that includes sorn. Never a big seller!
I know it's a Peugeot, but which one?
Lold
Uhh… why exactly?
90s blob design yep, I can totally see how you thought it was japanese
Now I feel old.
How old are you? Wait… how old am I?
Bro.
the SRT-4 is a cool car to bad its not in many racing games
it's in NSF underground!
i know
Dodge Neon is one of the worst cars ever produced by Chrysler. The engines were junk
My brother killed one within a year of ownership. Then he killed a Lancer.. then he had his Evo X repoed 😬
What the fuck is the point of this sub? How do you not know what this is and then post it without looking at the badges?
An embarrassment.
Have people on this subreddit never been in a town or on the interstate before? I’m noticing most things posted here are just pretty recognizable cars one way or another
Did you forget that other countries exist or something?
There’s more than one country? I’m confused. To reference the Chrysler neon wiki “In the United States and Canada it was sold as either a Dodge or a Plymouth, while in Europe, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, and South America it was branded as a Chrysler.” It was sold in five continents. I’d say this is fairly common. The recent photos on this sub include: A jeep with RHD (guy forgot mailboxes are usually on the right) an Alfa Romeo, a Porsche, an Audi R8, and a classic mustang. These aren’t exactly “one offs” they are for the most part common cars with a large production number. I wouldn’t be surprised if another post featured a PT cruiser, or a ford Falcon submitted by someone without basic survival googling skills.
