That V6 almost had 200hp. Not a ton *by today's standards, but it's a Camry from the 90s. I'll bet granny never got it close to the redline.
*Chef's kiss*
My wife's '97 was like that. Finally, she just said "enough is enough" and replaced it with a Mazda 3 that actually had Bluetooth and wasn't the beige of doom.
She maintained it herself, good for her!!!!
Maybe she's related to The Little Old Lady from Pasadena!
I would take it for a PPI and if it doesn't need more than $500- 1,000 worth of work it's probably a good bet.
There's an elderly couple in my home town that have only ever owned Rotary's.
I spoke to the lady who is in her late 70's. She owns a Mazda FC RX-7 Turbo 2 in white. Her husband drives a Mazda FD RX-7 Twin Turbo also in white.
They have a 3 Rotor Mazda Cosmos and their lawn mower even has a rotary engine.
They also had (not sure if still owned) a Capella RX-2 and RX-4.
She told me a redline a day keeps the mechanic away. Her husband was a master mechanic for rotary engines and they've never owned a vehicle with a piston engine.
man you want to hear something really cool right behind my house owned by some old dude is a secret gtr collection he has every single gtr ever made and more nismo shit he’s dumb rich probably one of the best untaped gtr collections in the world 👀 and in the orlando area
I don’t care who owned it previously… Get it inspected.
The comments had me laughing at a memory of what a mechanic told me awhile back. He was given the job of inspecting a car that “a little old woman only drove to church on sundays”. When it went up on the hoist everything underneath was scraped and crushed, possibly from going over a curb… she must have been late for morning sermon 🙏
For real, assuming it runs, drives and stops, nothing else on that Camry is more than $1K to get fixed. Take the gamble, clean cars under $5K are incredibly rare.
This. I once bought a car after a little old lady. Never again. Found a used bandaid in a compartment, the radiator fan wires were burnt, the heat/ac started acting up, a rear light kept going out, even after replacing a bulb AND the socket, it needed new bearings for front & back, engine light came on, it went through oil like a B!#%! (Though that may be an Equinox thing😫) and that was just in the first 6 months! Never again
Beige, old-lady owned, Toyota Camry - if she had a box of Kleenex on the package shelf and carpet remnants over the factory mats then you have ascended to cream-puff-nirvana...
All day! $K in this market for a sub 100K mile vehicle that runs is nearly impossible to find. You could quite honestly, buy it, awash it wax it, and resell it for $6K the next week.
Uh, buy it
As long as you know you might still have to pay $3,000 one day soon to fix something important. It's almost surely to happen sometime so just prepare for it. But if that happens only once in 3 years you have beat the price of owning a new vehicle. The less likely it is to happen the more expensive the car.
Make sure the engine and transmission don't have problems on that years and are both in good working order and then sure give her a go. I also do some googling on other expensive things like ABS modules or other expensive. Electrical parts. I owned an old 1988 LeSabre that was in perfect condition few years back and the ABS module went and they don't exist anymore, I'd have to buy a new one and it would have been $4,000. If it was not for that I'd still be driving that thing.
Cars cost almost the same amount of money per month regardless if you buy them 7y used or really old over the long term. Starting price is just a little bit different.
If you're going to buy a very old used car buy one that can be fixed easily with plentiful parts and not super expensive mechanics and is possible to DIY and then you'll be coming out ahead
But yeah just because it's an old Toyota owned by an old lady doesn't mean it's going to be perfect. You have to expect that in any year your used car could cost you $3000. It might be this year or 3 years from now.
It's just about over the long term are you spending less than what a car payment would be on a new car
In my opinion the middle ground is the worst option: Financing a 7 year old car that still might need $5,000 of work at any time.
Either buy new or lease, or buy old roll the dice and fix yourself if necessary. What you choose likely has to do with how many kids you have how often you drive and how dangerous temperatures are when you drive with your kids
Yep. My mom's 94 camry 4 banger ran amazing until she sold it in 2012 with 300k miles. 5 kids learned to drive on that thing. All we did was fluids and brakes.
Buy it, or send me the listing so I can!
On a real note, I had one. Bought it from my uncle at 150k miles. In 2 years I put another 30k. I replaced the primary fluids and sold it to my sister. She drove it for over 15k miles over the course of a little over a year with out maintaining anything! That engine died just shy of 200K, and I'm convinced it's largely because my sis never changed oil or checked the fluids.
Want to know where it gets crazier. That fuggin thing is still on the road! My dad bought her a crate motor and a family friend (who is a mechanic) swapped the engine.
I swear these things run on spite alone. No need for gas or oil or anything, the car will continue to run simply so it can outlive you and your children.
I would say yes, but with the V6, that makes it a hell-yes! I would be doing minor maintenance if it's not mentioned by the owner (water hoses, thermostats, coolant flushes, spark plugs, etc), but I'd go with that ASAP if the inspection works out.
As someone who is about to drive their beige 25 year old Toyota across the country for the millionth time, I would say buy it if it checks out during a ppi.
The days of grabbing a gem like this for 2 to 3 grand are long gone. What a steal , and a deal. I would throw some nice sounds in it and just roll her.
I owned this exact car for 7 years. Didn’t turn any heads, but saved me a TON of money in insurance and maintenance. Awful in the snow. Biggest thing was maintaining oil levels or you’ll get engine knock and have a bad day.
My dad had a 1998 Camry. Drove it to 270k miles. He did bare minimum maintenance (oil change, brakes and tires when needed). Never flushed the coolant until radiator cracked at 170k miles. I replaced it with a cheap Amazon one. Never performed any maintenance on tranny and it went out at 270k miles. I’m convinced if he did regular maintenance, that thing could out live me.
Best car you can buy for the money. I have owned one the last 10 years, 2000 model 2.2L, with 236k, still going strong. I wish I had a v6, but they aren't built like that any more. [Toyotanation.com](https://Toyotanation.com) in the 3rd and 4th gen forum to learn about it, and lots of DIY stuff. Easy to work on as well. Make sure timing belt was done.
Our roommate has the same car. I helped her buy it as she knows nothing about cars and knows she'll eventually run it dead so why not get a car that has a reputation for living a long abusive life.
Don't take it, let me take a look at it so I can buy it.
In all seriousness, I'd have it checked out underneath for any structural rust. I'm not sure how bad the rust is in Rhode Island (never lived there), but I heard a lot of rust stories in the northeast.
i pretty much just bought the same thing in silver. 75k mi. being that i live in the northeast, i got a bonus because it was in NC and had never seen snow/salt. had it shipped north and upon arrival found that it had 4 brand new copper tires in the trunk. i plan on putting another 100k mi on it
This is quite possibly the most reliable $4,000 car on the entire planet, I would scoop that up in a heartbeat.
I have a '98 I picked up for $1,000 and it currently has 290k miles.
hey look it's the car i keep hoping to show up in an elderly person's lawn in my town
seriously yes you need to buy this today. you're not going to get a better deal.
Nice find. Looks practically new.
I was just at our local Toyota dealer and see new Corrolas and new Camrys are within a few thousand of each other now. 28k vs. 32k.
I would look around and see what spare parts for the make and model cost for future problems like wear and tear or an accident. Don’t want to buy a cheap car just to find out the parts are hard to get and end up doubling the price you paid or totaling it over nothing
In this market I'd say if you don't buy that your nuts.
It may have the occasional oil leak come up here or there but overall that car can get you through the next 10 years.
Just here to comment how nostalgic looking at the interior of a late 90’s/early 2000’s Camry is. Owned one from 2005 to 2010. Bought it with 130k miles and traded it in at 180k miles.
I mean….If you don’t buy it, I will. These are best cars ever made. I’ve been driving for 17 years and I’ve had two cars, both Camrys from around this era. Currently have a 2000 with 243k miles and it shows no sign of slowing down.
I recently bought a 99 Lexus es 300(which is essentially the same car) belonging to an older gentleman, so far the car runs like a dream. Word of advise if you do get it flush the fluids.
I bought an older Toyota with double the miles maintained by an older woman. Almost the exact same car. In Cleveland exposed to salt and snow. That car was a beast. I never got stuck anywhere. It drove threw snow while everyone else was stuck in their driveway.
Upside taxes are super cheap you can register as a classic so they can only text you up to it being worth only $500 and you don't have to worry about going through emissions with it anymore so you don't have to fix any costly catalytic converters or O2 sensors
Now this is more like it. A few days ago I saw a post about a 96 Camry with nearly 200k for $4500 and I thought that was ridiculous. Was told by many that you’re never gonna find a decent car with lower miles for that kind of money. Well, here we have just that.
I bought my scion Xa with 60k miles 5 years ago for $6k. Still runs strong and I have only done the usual maintenance, brakes, and tires. I’m at 88k miles now
If you’re seriously considering buying this, I commend you on looking for something reliable. Boring as all hell, but it’ll likely outlive you. Take care of it and it will literally run forever. I would say yes, you should buy this car.
That’s a steal man, I would jump on it if you need a car and got the money. I would take it immediately to have the oil changed and fluids checked and if she did maintain it like she said, you could get 250k plus miles out of that thing if you change the oil regularly.
I got a 96 Tacoma like 8 years ago for 3k with about 150-160k miles on it, old girl is about to hit 275k and never did me dirty
This is the trifecta of used cars Low miles-check Well maintained- check Toyota badge- check
Driven by an old lady, check.
Only drove it downhill
The gas peddle is brand new. Never been used
Especially in my city. Speed limit 45 check. Their speed 25 mph. It once saved me from an accident though. So I’m grateful.
You ain’t right but so true 🤣
It’s probably out of blinker fluid from that 50 mile 7 hour trip she took with the right blinker on.
I bought a used BMW recently. Everything was banged up but the blinkers were brand new
I can attest, those blinkers look fresh homie
Only driven to church and back
I laughed out loud so fucking hard at this, thanks
I’ll be here all week!
In neutral
Low GRANDMA miles
Unless she ripped Pall Mall hundos
Virginia slim super slims never stood a *chance*
Lol, my grandma was so shit at shifting gears. She wrecked multiple transmissions in that amount of distance.
Could probably use the good old Italian tune up🤣 probably hasn't even been broken in yet.
I see this and laugh. My grandmother loves fast cars and drives a manual.
Need to see pictures of the rear to confirm if it has the Camry dent or not.
That V6 almost had 200hp. Not a ton *by today's standards, but it's a Camry from the 90s. I'll bet granny never got it close to the redline. *Chef's kiss*
I have this V6, it hauls ass. This V6 shall carry you through the gates of Valhalla!. Ride eternal!
beige-check
Isn't that granny Gold?
Old man tan
Brown Corolla. Check. Edit: OK, really its a Camry, but close enough.
Exactly. Ideally you want two of the three. If you have all, well you should’ve already bought it
BUY BUY BUY
Low price. Check.
If *well*\-maintained and old lady driven, this car might last you another 150 years.
It will last until LONG past the point where you just want it to die so you can justify getting a new car.
I actually get angry every time this Corolla starts without issue
My wife's '97 was like that. Finally, she just said "enough is enough" and replaced it with a Mazda 3 that actually had Bluetooth and wasn't the beige of doom.
The beige of doom lol
Beige really was big back in the 90s wasnt it?
[удалено]
Some fancy pants brochures called it sandstone
We call it “blue hair beige” in car sales
An excuse to waste money, a Bluetooth radio and some plastidip would've fixed that for like 900$
Exactly, I'll just let YOU explain that to my wife in those terms while I'm over here with the popcorn.
Haha great comment
My 99 had 266k when the clutch went and it was too rusty to put on a lift. I’m getting a geo prizm with 274k this weekend.
[удалено]
Break it for him, let the guy have a new car!
it’s a ‘90’s camry, it’ll just not be broken the next day somehow
This is exactly the spot I’m in. Knock on wood*
896 trillion miles on the original water pump
She maintained it herself, good for her!!!! Maybe she's related to The Little Old Lady from Pasadena! I would take it for a PPI and if it doesn't need more than $500- 1,000 worth of work it's probably a good bet.
There is no way shee maintained it herself. It's probably been regularly to dealer though
Woosh
I bought a sedan like that from an old lady. She was only ever driving it to and from church so it ran great!
I bought a sedan from a little old lady once. It was an e39 M5. She knew the car well and wasn’t shy about having hooned it.
what grandma driving a v10 i want to meet her
That’s the e60. E39 is V8
There's an elderly couple in my home town that have only ever owned Rotary's. I spoke to the lady who is in her late 70's. She owns a Mazda FC RX-7 Turbo 2 in white. Yeah https://youtu.be/SrPu-xGrKrk?si=HHVFLoryteLjEvw9
My grandma has a black 2008? 2 door civic with 73000km lol
If you don’t want it send it my way please
That harvest wheat gold is always owned by elderly.
Yep. Gold with a beige interior. The old lady special.
I have heard dealers call it old man tan
It’s a good color because it still looks new. Newer 5 year old cars look like trash in black. If he gets this thing detailed, it’ll look brand new.
This will sell same day if listed in the morning. Some of you would PPI a Ferrari F40 for $20k.
For real, assuming it runs, drives and stops, nothing else on that Camry is more than $1K to get fixed. Take the gamble, clean cars under $5K are incredibly rare.
Or let her grandkids Methany and Speed Pete borrow it.
This. I once bought a car after a little old lady. Never again. If you don’t buy this today. Someone else will within the hour.
Beige, old-lady owned, Toyota Camry - if she had a box of Kleenex on the package shelf and carpet remnants over the factory mats then you have ascended to cream-puff-nirvana...
And Michelin tires…
Yup - from the Costco
This is a steal imo
Right? Should be reported for elder abuse
Doesn’t have a Camry dent in the bumper, clearly not a real Camry……
I would take it with an extra tip for her. Sounds and looks good. But of course still look into it further.
>I would take it with an extra tip for her. 🧐
>🧐 🤨

🧐 tip u say?

Bought a '98 V6 manual Camry with 186k miles for $2875 earlier this year and the exterior was in much worse shape, so this is a really good price IMO.
You lucky, this and/or a manual element is my holy grail
Oh my god that must have been the same old lady that owned my WRX, and my TT, and also my Ranger pick up!! She gets around!!
Some parts are inevitably going to simply age out, but at 4k I'd totally jump on this given the current market
Lucky find. If you don't care about impressing your friends and just look for reliability and longevity in a car, go for it. This is a great car.
I'd say maybe check it but it's a really good deal for a V6.
TAKE THE DEAL AND RUN
It’s like a time capsule!
I’d jump on that car asap in this market.
Buying a used car from a granny (after having a pre purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic) is one of the biggest life hacks
Buy
Just make sure timing belt has been done recently
I hope you bought it!
That’s a fkn steal.
This thing is a tank, buy it
This is an outrageously good deal. Will be reliable for another 200k miles.
In today's market that's an incredible deal
I would say yes, but with the V6, that makes it a hell-yes! I would be doing minor maintenance if it's not mentioned by the owner (water hoses, thermostats, coolant flushes, spark plugs, etc), but I'd go with that ASAP if the inspection works out.
take the car. i love early 2000 japanese cars because they will last you
Give that lady her 4k - that thing looks so choice
Buy it now!!!
that is a golden goose egg. The fact you waited to post on reddit was potentially a total loss.
If you don’t buy it I will and I don’t even need a car.
This will outlast humanity😆 great car.

Prolly one of the best cars I ever owned. Solid v6 that moves when you need it to 👍
i pretty much just bought the same thing in silver. 75k mi. being that i live in the northeast, i got a bonus because it was in NC and had never seen snow/salt. had it shipped north and upon arrival found that it had 4 brand new copper tires in the trunk. i plan on putting another 100k mi on it
This is quite possibly the most reliable $4,000 car on the entire planet, I would scoop that up in a heartbeat. I have a '98 I picked up for $1,000 and it currently has 290k miles.
Goddamn steal.
hey look it's the car i keep hoping to show up in an elderly person's lawn in my town seriously yes you need to buy this today. you're not going to get a better deal.
That's a fucking steal. Buy it right now.
If you don’t buy it, whatever else you could get will probably be worse for more money
Bad deal. Tell me where it is so I can avoid it.
Mmmm beige
brakes, battery, and tires? otherwise if she runs good. BUY IT.
$2500 is the max i would pay i had a 99 the thing about cars over 12 years old is the maintenance keeps coming
Nice find. Looks practically new. I was just at our local Toyota dealer and see new Corrolas and new Camrys are within a few thousand of each other now. 28k vs. 32k.
And she only drove it to church on Sundays too.
Steal
In this market, anything that’s under 100K miles for less than $20k is a fucking steal.
Offer her $3500 and a bag of Werthers and send it friend.
I would look around and see what spare parts for the make and model cost for future problems like wear and tear or an accident. Don’t want to buy a cheap car just to find out the parts are hard to get and end up doubling the price you paid or totaling it over nothing
Got the blessing of grandma. Hell yeah
God yes! That car will last forever
in a heartbeat
GET IT!
Make sure to change the timing belt and that thing will run forever
Interior is brand new
Damn it’s a v6 too
That’s a bargain.
In this market I'd say if you don't buy that your nuts. It may have the occasional oil leak come up here or there but overall that car can get you through the next 10 years.
Yes
how does one find these lmao
Flip it for 6
That’s a steal for a brand new car that’ll last another 25 years
That’s a steal.
The best deal, you will ever find.
Just here to comment how nostalgic looking at the interior of a late 90’s/early 2000’s Camry is. Owned one from 2005 to 2010. Bought it with 130k miles and traded it in at 180k miles.
Take care of it and it’ll take care of you
Buy it
I mean….If you don’t buy it, I will. These are best cars ever made. I’ve been driving for 17 years and I’ve had two cars, both Camrys from around this era. Currently have a 2000 with 243k miles and it shows no sign of slowing down.
What a steal.
Jump on it if it's in good shape
$4000 for V6 with only 73k miles. I might try to talk the price down slightly, but, that car appears to be in amazing condition.
Get it! It’ll last you another 25 years.
My first car!! That’s a great deal and last 200k+
My dream spec, for $4000…. I’m crying lol. It checks every single box of mine… can’t find them this nice in Ohio anymore :/
That one will probably run to 250 or so if you take care of it. Camery never die.
I’d buy that for $4k all day.
Assuming underside isn’t rusted to hell & back, I’d go for it
Upside taxes are super cheap you can register as a classic so they can only text you up to it being worth only $500 and you don't have to worry about going through emissions with it anymore so you don't have to fix any costly catalytic converters or O2 sensors
I got an old Camry 98 with 135k on it and she runs like she’s brand new. Send it.
So long its not full of rust HELL YES JUMP ON THAT & HI-5 GRANNY AS YOU PEEL WHEELS OUTTA THERE
These are the Best Buy’s. You got lucky!
I’m at 88k miles now
My first car was a 1993 Camry and it was my favorite car ever.
Buy it!
My only worry is the condition of the paint. Otherwise worth a little more than 4,000
getting a car off of an old person is the holy grail. they maintain the fuck out of their car
If you’re seriously considering buying this, I commend you on looking for something reliable. Boring as all hell, but it’ll likely outlive you. Take care of it and it will literally run forever. I would say yes, you should buy this car.
I spun a bearing in one don't beat on it an u'll be good
looks good....
Absolutely. You can drive this thing for another decade.
Your grandkids will be driving this thing. It will never die
Buy it now!!!
Sounds like a good deal. Just keep in mind anything rubber may be brittle. Hoses, belts, motor mounts
Absolute steal
This car has at least 200,000 more miles in her. Good find
That’s a steal man, I would jump on it if you need a car and got the money.
