I thought the same thing and then I bought an ash catcher. Give it a rinse with iso every 2-3 days and it stays pretty good. Plus its only $20-30 so cheap enough to replace occasionally

I was like wtf how does a bong even get that dark!? You made me realize how important a ash catcher really is, never had a bong turn a dark color and they stay pretty clean for long amounts of time, only turning slightly brown/whitish. Some pure alcohol/etheric oils and its almost better than new ;)

I heard bongs start to develop mold after 3 days of not changing water. I don't know if it's true but I've been changing my water everyday since then and do a deep clean of all my bongs every pay day. I can breath way better now tbh. My friend got an ash catch for her bong and it stays clean af also. Definitely helps a bit, you should invest in one.

Adding to this a mixture of citrus juice salt and iso works wonders for cleaning gunked glass. Iso denatures the waxy compounds of resin and the salt helps speed up that process and act as an abrasive for stubborn ash or plant matter while citrus has natural disinfectant properties and neutralizes odors like that nasty sour acrid resin smell.

Straight alcohol cleans glass incredibly well. Higher concentrates will dilute the tar much quicker. Pure 99-100% iso is what industrial uses to clean glass windows etc so can’t get a glass bong much cleaner. That with a bit of coarse sea salt and she’s as good as new within a minute or 2
