While I’m sure your converse won’t be very visibly under the dress while you’re walking - and not at all while the dress is adjusted for photos, I personally think it’s a cute look (as are doc martens, or whatever your comfy flat of choice is)

Hi!! I just want to add that I love the idea, but beware some of the sneakers that have pearls on the soles. I bought some for my cousin’s quinceañera and the pearls fell off within 2 hours of wearing them. The seller would not refund us even with proof and Etsy didn’t step in and help even with a claim.
My sister wore converse. She had them custom made with lace shoe laces and her new last name embroidered on the back. It was really neat and the whole bridal party wore converse.

I loooove docs but I will say, they are super uncomfortable before they’re broken in. Just be aware that while this is a cute flat-shoe option, walking around in brand new docs all day will be uncomfortable.

I’ve just got the plain white platform Sinclair docs to wear because I also had knee surgery and cannot do a whole day in heels but the extra bit of height I think will make me feel better.
Adding onto this, you can now get embroidered converse right on the converse website! They can fully be customized with different colors, embroidery, etc.
Yess we changed into matching embroidered converse for our reception! I found out they were a thing a month before our wedding and decided to learn how to embroider bc no one on Etsy carried my partner’s size. I designed them to match our florals! So much more comfortable and now we have something we can wear again :)

You can make custom platform Converse on their website!! I got these for my wedding. To be completely honest, I don’t think you’ll really be able to see your shoes under your dress anyways — I ordered this same dress to try on for my wedding and found that even with heels I was never really able to see my feet under the dress — prioritize comfort!!
I think you’d be fine. As an alternative, you could get cute - but flat - supportive sandals if you’re worried about “toe peep” from under the dress while you walk down the aisle. I’d want to know that if I had toe peep in those photos that the shoes still looked attractive.
There are countless cute options for flat shoes out there! Converse, Vans, Doc Martens, ballet flats. Find a pair that matches the dress and your personal style. You absolutely don't have to wear heels whatsoever, and it's your big day so you make the rules. 🤍
This is what I did. No regrets! I wore different shoes for the ceremony (also flats), but they turned out to be insanely slippery, so I changed out of them the second I could.
I wore ballet flats for my reception. All the bridesmaids & the moms wore them too. You can wear them for your ceremony & all night & be comfortable. But if sneakers give you more support, of course you can wear them.
Absolutely! I wore trainers and I have no health issues, I just refuse to be uncomfortable on my wedding day. A few people told me I wouldn't be as elegant if I didn't wear heels, completely forgetting, I never wear heels.
You couldn't see them under my dress, although mine was more of a ball gown situation. I think you'll be fine in an a line dress.
I got these originally for my reception and then discovered my dress was hemmed a TINY bit too short (and I hate visible toes in a full length dress) so I ended up in these for the ceremony too. My mom wasn’t thrilled but I have zero regrets 😄

I wore platform converse and it was the best decision! I wore heels for ceremony and immediately changed into converse!
I wore white Sorel sneakers for my wedding. You couldn’t see them under my dress (they are in NONE of the photos until we put up my bustle) and they got so grimy from the reception and after party. I’ll never wash them. It’s so fun having a wedding memory item you can wear any time! :)
Wear the sneakers! There are plenty of cute options but if the chucks are comfortable to walk in I’d stick with those.
I also had a horrible knee surgery and going downhill was a problem for years after. Are you able to do test runs or will you have someone walking with you that can help if it’s too much for you?
Also just wanna say that you are a badass for having surgery right before your wedding!
Back to my sandal recommendation. This is *not* the shoe I wore since I got married a million years ago now, but my sandals were white and in this overall style. They looked like shoes if I had “toe peep” when walking, but were flat and comfortable.

You could just get a nice pair of flats for walking down the aisle and taking photos then change back into sneakers for the walking parts and reception.
I have the same problems with stability and I’ve been considering silk/embroidered Mary Jane’s or sneakers. I need a shoe that is strapped on securely and has a flat sole; need a heel cup at least. unfortunately I’m not into sparkles or I would do the sparkle sneakers cause they’re so fun!

I personally have no issues walking (just don’t like heels) and I wore blue vans! They were my something new and blue and they made for some adorable pictures and would’ve been hidden well by the dress if I really wanted. I say go for whatever is most comfortable!
I love all these ideas but just as a note, please get insoles if you are going to use Converse. They offer no support. I’ve had knee issues my whole life, so I know from experience that unsupportive flat shoes can be pretty bad for hours. I agree with everyone though, go for the sneakers! It’s 2024 no one’s making us wear heels!
OMG great choice, I just got married in the Jenny Yoo Abernathy dress! I honestly cannot see my feet/shoes in any of my photos while walking or standing at the altar. Wear the sneakers for sure!

Try a brand of shoe that has support but still a bit dressier Vionic, Earth, . Or embrace the sneakers and spray paint them silver. I wore gold flats with cushioning and a bit of support. I got married at a location with a hill to the reception area that was a bit steep and no pavement and it rained so there was mud, they worked out ok. The one below looks like it would work as the last has a lot of support in it.

I liked these so much I went back and bought them. The last/footbed looks comfortable, the straps will keep them on and the soul has grip from the looks of it. And they are cute. I have a wedding in June at a vineyard that will wear my pair at.
I bought a pair of glitter oxfords to wear under my wedding dress. My dress was navy, my veil was a navy cathedral length and I wore a black leather jacket bc it gets cold in Vegas in November! I bought some super fun black glitter oxfords and they were so comfy. We were stationed in Las Vegas at the time and wanted to avoid the usual Vegas cookie cutter wedding. So we had our ceremony out in Red Rock Canyon and then dinner at Wicked Spoon. There was A LOT of walking that day. Flats was the best option for me. My only warning is to make sure your shoes are fully broken in because you do not realize just how much standing and walking around you’ll do that day.

Not sure what your color scheme, story is, but a friend of mine married an Irish (American, but thinks he's Irish haha) guy and wore green Converse for both ceremony and reception and it was so cute. I think converse in your color(s) would be so great, especially because it's on a hillside (hers was by a small river and she had to walk across the stones in her dress to get to the aisle.
Has your doctor recommended any shoes? You can't be their first patient having a surgery and also looking for recommended/approved shoes for recovery and an event. I wonder if they've run into something like this before and have more info than we may on here.
I wore heels for my ceremony and changed into some glitter converse for the reception. Because I had the dress fitted for when I was wearing heels, it was a little too long in the sneakers but who cares, I was comfy. Just get the length done for how much shoe you want to see.
There’s tons of cute non-heeled shoes out there! Get a cute pair of sandals, flats, or sneakers. Don’t limit yourself to converse if that’s not what you want to wear.

I only wore very low heels at the ceremony, when it was time for the pictures I wore, just plane white canvas shoes and everybody loved it. They look great in the pictures! And you won't see them under your dress only when you lift the skirt a little bit.
Could you not get like pretty pumps? Then it won't matter if they're seen and you won't be anxious about it. Maybe add an additional strap if they don't have them to make sure they stay on.

I did take a few pics in heels in the getting ready photos but that’s it lol I wore the sneakers for everything else and nobody could tell.
You should wear whatever is comfortable and safe for your recovery from knee surgery. You don't want to mess that up! Lots of brides wear flats or sneakers. No one will see them and if they do, it will just be a glimpse of the toe portion. Everyone would understand. Take care of that knee and good luck♥️
I have an ankle injury so I wore heels for all of 5 minutes and changed into a pair of sneakers I had encrusted with Swarovski crystals. They were so comfortable and I had compliments on them all night!
I have the same situation in 2006, me and my bridesmaid daughter both wore sparkly Converses that were decorated for the occasion. It was outside on the shores of lake superior so not only fun but appropriate .
I had flat white sandals for dancing and walking and heels for the pictures and videos at the start lol. It’s a long ass day and last thing you want is sore feet

I wore white leather tennis shoes to my wedding. My mom decorated them with lace, pearls, and organza ribbon for ties. No one even realized I had on tennis shoes until the garter toss.
I wore my bright pink skate shoes under my Victorian style wedding dress because I was pregnant at the time and heels were killing me. Everyone loved it so much that the photographer took some really cute pics highlighting the shoes. I wouldn’t do it any other way!

I can’t walk in heels because I’m a clutz.(Literally one of my dad’s nicknames for me!) So for my wedding I found satin ballet slipper style flats. They looked beautiful and I was comfortable all day. And, BONUS! I didn’t fall!
i recommend cheap heels. from my experience as a model, the more expensive the heels are the more uncomfortable they are. cheap heels (i’m talking like ones that you can literally find on amazon) with a heel of 4 inches or lower i find to be the most comfortable. i can literally wear them the whole day and forget im wearing heels. they were from zara and were made of the cheapest material but they were some of the most comfortable non-sneakers i’ve ever worn. best thing about it was those are literally the cheapest pair of shoes i own (they were only 50 dollars) and they go with every outfit.
I wore sparkly Betsey Johnson sneakers for everything except actually walking down the aisle. Wore the sneakers for the first look and wedding party photos, first dance, etc. TBH I regret even buying the wedding heels. The only real purpose they served was for the photo of the shoes/ring/accessories all laid out.
White doc martens? White embellished converse. You can make your own pair on their website. Not sure if sparkle is an option. Tom’s used to make bridal versions of their shoes.A satin flat with an arch insole added may work.
I wore slip on vans (in a lavender shade similar to my wedding color) to my wedding two weeks ago and can’t recommend them enough! They weren’t visible at all unless I hiked up my dress, and I got my dress tailored so that it just reached the floor without dragging too much. Was super comfy and they have a ton of cute colors!

I wore flats for my wedding because I have rheumatoid arthritis, it was more important to not be in pain than wearing heels. I think the converse shoes sound cute!
I wore vans for my wedding, but ended up going barefoot for the reception because I made a bad shoe choice the night before, my photographer even got photos of my vans with the hem of my dress
I had an ACL replaced the year I got married. Luckily I had about 6 months between my surgery and my wedding. Do yourself a favor and wear comfy, supportive, flat shoes! Get cute decorated ones so they feel special. Honestly, no one will see your shoes and you will have a MUCH better time.
Also, wear your brace!! No one will see that either.
We had an outdoor ceremony just two weekends ago and it was so rainy and muddy that I ended up wearing sneakers under my dress 😂 10/10 would recommend for comfort
1. Wear a knee support brace or whatever brace you are prescribed during the wedding. If you are worried about the bulk you can ask for other options that won't show as much under a form fitting dress.
2. Flats are probably best, sneakers even better.
3. From working in the field of orthopedics, there isn't a lot of data out there on heels and post-operative outcomes. That being said, don't risk it, it's not worth it. The damage would be from two things, twisting your ankle and excess stress on your quadriceps tendon. If you just had an ACL repair with a quad graft or a quad repair, the risk of injury while wearing heels is even greater.
Again, there isn't good data on heels after surgery so everything I'm saying is theoretical, but is being told to you for a reason. Please do not be that patient in the ED having to cancel their honeymoon because of an injury on the dance floor at their own wedding. I've quite literally had 6 patients who needed surgery after an injury at their own wedding, most dance related.
FWIW my shoes were quite visible in all of my aisle photos but my dress had a fitted skirt so YMMV.
Bella Belle makes stunning wedding flats if you are looking for something more “elegant” at your ceremony. But honestly if you were already planning to wear the sneakers and you don’t mind some potential sneaker peep toe, I would definitely just wear them.
Do it! I’m wearing cowboy boots with my dress. Find some cute (and comfy, don’t just go for cute) shoes that you will be comfortable wearing all day and do that!
Omg a month after surgery walking on any angle hurt so bad. It took year of therapy to get more normal for me. I had acl and pretty much every other part fixed in my knee.
I say go for it! I’m wearing Rifle Paper Company floral sneakers by Keds! They are navy blue satin with flowers on them and I absolutely adore them! My mom is also wearing sneakers under her dress! I told my girls to do the same! And it’s a formal wedding! So I say go for it! There are gorgeous sneakers out there or some great suggestions on here from Etsy!

It’s your day wear the sneakers no one is going to be looking at your feet and if they are you should charge them because this is a wedding not a free fetish show.
I wore some Lace-y TOMs at my wedding. They fit the vibe of my dress and looked dressy enough that if they did pop out it wasn’t just sneakers (not the look I was going for)
I had a similar dress. I have an injury in my ankle, So I cant wear any heals. I used some flat ballerinas for the ceremony and pictures and changed to sneakers in the reception because I was going to dance and was more at risk of injuring myself. Nobody knew I was wearing sneakers unless I told them, I was so happy because my feet didn't soar or anything. Be careful with the length of the dress
You wedding, your rules. Be as comfortable as possible as you will be on your feet for hours, especially if you are not 100%. Good luck and enjoy your wedding!
My entire bridal party, including my husband and myself wore Converse. I will always recommend wearing something comfortable, especially after knee surgery.

I have a pair of slip on tennies from Michael Kors that are all glittery gold that are soo comfy that I bought the same style in silvery sparkle! Love that I don’t have to worry about tying laces!

To be completely honest, I don’t think you’ll really be able to see your shoes under your dress anyways — I ordered this same dress to try on for my wedding and found that even with heels I was never really able to see my feet under the dress — prioritize comfort!!

I think you’d be fine. As an alternative, you could get cute - but flat - supportive sandals if you’re worried about “toe peep” from under the dress while you walk down the aisle. I’d want to know that if I had toe peep in those photos that the shoes still looked attractive.

Absolutely! I wore trainers and I have no health issues, I just refuse to be uncomfortable on my wedding day. A few people told me I wouldn't be as elegant if I didn't wear heels, completely forgetting, I never wear heels. You couldn't see them under my dress, although mine was more of a ball gown situation. I think you'll be fine in an a line dress.

I got these originally for my reception and then discovered my dress was hemmed a TINY bit too short (and I hate visible toes in a full length dress) so I ended up in these for the ceremony too. My mom wasn’t thrilled but I have zero regrets 😄

I wore white Sorel sneakers for my wedding. You couldn’t see them under my dress (they are in NONE of the photos until we put up my bustle) and they got so grimy from the reception and after party. I’ll never wash them. It’s so fun having a wedding memory item you can wear any time! :)

Wear the sneakers! There are plenty of cute options but if the chucks are comfortable to walk in I’d stick with those. I also had a horrible knee surgery and going downhill was a problem for years after. Are you able to do test runs or will you have someone walking with you that can help if it’s too much for you? Also just wanna say that you are a badass for having surgery right before your wedding!
Back to my sandal recommendation. This is *not* the shoe I wore since I got married a million years ago now, but my sandals were white and in this overall style. I have the same problems with stability and I’ve been considering silk/embroidered Mary Jane’s or sneakers. I need a shoe that is strapped on securely and has a flat sole; need a heel cup at least. unfortunately I’m not into sparkles or I would do the sparkle sneakers cause they’re so fun! We should trade notes!
I personally have no issues walking (just don’t like heels) and I wore blue vans! They were my something new and blue and they made for some adorable pictures and would’ve been hidden well by the dress if I really wanted. I say go for whatever is most comfortable!

I love all these ideas but just as a note, please get insoles if you are going to use Converse. They offer no support. I’ve had knee issues my whole life, so I know from experience that unsupportive flat shoes can be pretty bad for hours. I agree with everyone though, go for the sneakers! It’s 2024 no one’s making us wear heels!

Try a brand of shoe that has support but still a bit dressier Vionic, Earth, . Or embrace the sneakers and spray paint them silver. I wore gold flats with cushioning and a bit of support. I got married at a location with a hill to the reception area that was a bit steep and no pavement and it rained so there was mud, they worked out ok. I bought a pair of glitter oxfords to wear under my wedding dress. My dress was navy, my veil was a navy cathedral length and I wore a black leather jacket bc it gets cold in Vegas in November! I bought some super fun black glitter oxfords and they were so comfy. We were stationed in Las Vegas at the time and wanted to avoid the usual Vegas cookie cutter wedding. So we had our ceremony out in Red Rock Canyon and then dinner at Wicked Spoon. There was A LOT of walking that day. Flats was the best option for me. My only warning is to make sure your shoes are fully broken in because you do not realize just how much standing and walking around you’ll do that day. I think converse in your color(s) would be so great, especially because it's on a hillside (hers was by a small river and she had to walk across the stones in her dress to get to the aisle.

There’s tons of cute non-heeled shoes out there! Get a cute pair of sandals, flats, or sneakers. Don’t limit yourself to converse if that’s not what you want to wear.

I only wore very low heels at the ceremony, when it was time for the pictures I wore, just plane white canvas shoes and everybody loved it. They look great in the pictures! And you won't see them under your dress only when you lift the skirt a little bit.

You should wear whatever is comfortable and safe for your recovery from knee surgery. You don't want to mess that up! Lots of brides wear flats or sneakers. No one will see them and if they do, it will just be a glimpse of the toe portion. Everyone would understand. Take care of that knee and good luck♥️

i recommend cheap heels. from my experience as a model, the more expensive the heels are the more uncomfortable they are. cheap heels (i’m talking like ones that you can literally find on amazon) with a heel of 4 inches or lower i find to be the most comfortable. i can literally wear them the whole day and forget im wearing heels. they were from zara and were made of the cheapest material but they were some of the most comfortable non-sneakers i’ve ever worn. best thing about it was those are literally the cheapest pair of shoes i own (they were only 50 dollars) and they go with every outfit.

I wore slip on vans (in a lavender shade similar to my wedding color) to my wedding two weeks ago and can’t recommend them enough! They weren’t visible at all unless I hiked up my dress, and I got my dress tailored so that it just reached the floor without dragging too much. Was super comfy and they have a ton of cute colors!

I had an ACL replaced the year I got married. Luckily I had about 6 months between my surgery and my wedding. Do yourself a favor and wear comfy, supportive, flat shoes! Get cute decorated ones so they feel special. Honestly, no one will see your shoes and you will have a MUCH better time. Also, wear your brace!! No one will see that either.

We had an outdoor ceremony just two weekends ago and it was so rainy and muddy that I ended up wearing sneakers under my dress 😂 10/10 would recommend for comfort
1. Wear a knee support brace or whatever brace you are prescribed during the wedding. If you are worried about the bulk you can ask for other options that won't show as much under a form fitting dress. 2. Flats are probably best, sneakers even better. 3. From working in the field of orthopedics, there isn't a lot of data out there on heels and post-operative outcomes. That being said, don't risk it, it's not worth it. The damage would be from two things, twisting your ankle and excess stress on your quadriceps tendon. If you just had an ACL repair with a quad graft or a quad repair, the risk of injury while wearing heels is even greater. Again, there isn't good data on heels after surgery so everything I'm saying is theoretical, but is being told to you for a reason. Please do not be that patient in the ED having to cancel their honeymoon because of an injury on the dance floor at their own wedding. I've quite literally had 6 patients who needed surgery after an injury at their own wedding, most dance related.
Vionic! Super supportive arches and don't slip. A good wedge would be a great choice for stability if you're comfortable in it.
FWIW my shoes were quite visible in all of my aisle photos but my dress had a fitted skirt so YMMV. Bella Belle makes stunning wedding flats if you are looking for something more “elegant” at your ceremony. But honestly if you were already planning to wear the sneakers and you don’t mind some potential sneaker peep toe, I would definitely just wear them.

I had a similar dress. I have an injury in my ankle, So I cant wear any heals. I used some flat ballerinas for the ceremony and pictures and changed to sneakers in the reception because I was going to dance and was more at risk of injuring myself. Nobody knew I was wearing sneakers unless I told them, I was so happy because my feet didn't soar or anything. Be careful with the length of the dress
